Yesterday Nintendo finally showed its new home console to the world, a system which mixes portable and domestic gaming in a unique new way.
It hasn't taken long for the industry to react, and Martyn Gibbs - CEO of UK specialist retailer GAME Digital - has voiced his opinion on the hybrid console, claiming it is yet another case of the Japanese giant distancing itself from its rivals with innovative concepts:
As today's teaser video demonstrates, the SWITCH is another example of Nintendo differentiating its gaming experiences to appeal to a broad array of gamers. Nintendo has consistently developed home consoles and handheld gaming to see its beloved and engaging games and characters deliver ultimate fun and enjoyment. SWITCH is clearly taking some of the best features of handheld and home consoles and merging them into a fantastic new way to play. We will be bringing more details to our customers as soon as possible.
Nintendo has stated that there will be no more Switch news until next year. The console launches in March.

But game hate Nintendo.
@Inkling-Inc Actually they don't. I am good friends with higher ups with GAME and they tell me it is just business. They love the 3DS and the Wii U. But sadly the Wii U didn't sell well enough to invest a large amount of space on their floor.
It's just business at the end of the day.
@Inkling-Inc is it. Why would they hate Nintendo.
Just visited game yesterday. There a business. They sell games.
Suddenly having flashes of a new fire emblem running on this, should hopefully look like the movie clips!
To make it more attractive, give us some nice color like New 3DS bundle.
@Anti-Matter a little something like these http://kotaku.com/imagining-the-nintendo-switch-in-different-colors-1788046128?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow
Dude in the red jacket must be wondering how he managed to a score a gig with that chick.
Hopefully game pushes the system hard. Obviously if they don't at least there's plenty of options these days for buying games / consoles.
i really hope 3rd parties will support the Switch just as the other consoles. Its really time for ninty to step up( iv kinda cooled off sinds yesterday😝).
@abe_hikura
WOW...!!
Thank you so much for the link.
I LOVE the Blue, White and SNES color.
It could instant buy for me.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@abe_hikura HOLY CRAP! THAT BLUE! TAKE ALL OF MY MONEY!
Wonder how the Switch will do in the UK. From what I've heard, Nintendo doesn't really have good results there.
Still not gonna get it from Game.
what hope has GAME got, they're CEO is just too out of touch, they sell things at an extraordinary price, in so far as they're 180% worse of in terms of profit, and they think the solution to that is raising the prices of things like preowned games or even new games, when i can order them from amazon for £5 cheaper. plus they have almost always shunned nintendo in the last 10 years or so, giving them a small dingy corner in their stores expecting things to sell. sure they had a bit of marketing for the 3DS when it released, but as soon as they saw it wasn't selling right away, they practically dropped marketing. To be honest, in the end i probably will end up getting my Switch at game as they will have all the bundles and it will be the quickest way to get it over amazon for example.
@abe_hikura Nice! Especially being a portable, I could definitely see Nintendo doing different colors and/or themes with these.
Won't be buying from GAME they are usually the most expensive retailer and I hate the million questions at the counter about insurance, dlc ect when I just want to get home and enjoy my new overpriced game (or in this case console)
@Luna_110
I really don't expect anything great from the Switch in the UK.
When I think of Nintendo and the UK I think of XBOX and Japan.
OK, maybe that is a bit extreme but I really don't see Switch digging up any roads here.
@Hotfusion Not sure where you got that from, I live in the UK and the 3DS was an absolute smash hit & has always been a solid territory for Nintendo, in fact many people consider the UK gaming community to be closer to the Japanese mentality rather than the American. Probably why the Vita did well here (despite being such a flawed product).
The real problem is the UK only has one major gaming chain, GAME and they won't advertise games.. and then stop stocking them if they don't sell. If Nintendo UK actually BOTHERED to advertise AT ALL we'd buy more, but often we don't hear about a game until it's already released. Mario Colour Splash? Only learned about that when a "leaked release" story appeared YouTube.
We were also one of the only countries outside of Japan to get an official Mew release in Gen 1. I know as I got mine.
