Some of you may remember Slain!, an old-school platformer revealed last year to be coming to Wii U. The game appears to be heavily inspired by Castlevania, with all manner of ghouls and monsters doing whatever they can to ruin the protagonist's day. Backed by a heavy metal soundtrack and featuring gratuitous amounts of violence, it definitely looks like one that'll challenge gamers who prefer their games to be 'Nintendo Hard'.
It seems the developers have gone a bit too far with the difficulty, however, and the game has been delayed so gameplay can be tweaked. According to a representative from Wolf Brew Games, "Right now no mortal man or woman could possibly get past Slain!'s intense platforming, traps and monstrosities." As a result, the PC version – which is releasing first – was delayed and now all the console ports are expected sometime between May and July.
What do you think? Are you disappointed with the delay? Do you intend to pick this up when it launches? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Cool art, this is the first I've even heard of this game. Good to know too high of a difficulty seems to be their only problem.
I don't get the appeal of games that are hard for the sake of being hard.
what ever happened to good old fashioned good level design?
thank glob for Yacht Club Games.
That looks good though.
@CharlieSmile Totally! In that case, may I suggest Ghosts 'n Goblins?
@Dankykong I agree, the art for this looks fantastic. Will definitely be picking this up at some point.
@CharlieSmile some players like to be challenged, and most modern games are too easy. I'm kind of disappointed that it's being delayed to make it easier honestly. I want it to be an insane challenge that not just anyone can beat. Of course, I'm sure it will still be ruthless nonetheless.
Wow I've never heard is this but it looks freaking awesome. The music is so cool!
Looks like the lovechild of Castlevania and Super Meat Boy.
Hope they release it in Australia. I just love the title.
I bet that Panga dude could get past all the traps and monstrosities in this game.
Looks amazing, really looking forward to a hard but fair game. Hopefully it's in line with the difficulty of something like Super Ghost's n Goblins and not it's NES predecessor.
I wanna play! This looks like a game after my own heart! Just don't make it harder than Castlevania 1 or Ninja Gaiden 2 (NES.) I like a conquerable challenge, but not something thats gonna give me carpal tunnel and need of nerve pills.
Looking good! Like a combination of Castlevania and Rastan. I just hope it isn't too hard.
Hm... Looks interesting, and I'm neither a fan of gory games or retro-style indie games. I might keep it in consideration, depending on what the ESRB rating is. I generally don't really mind a little blood or gore, so long as there isn't language or explicit content.
@CharlieSmile Yes I see what you are saying however >>> some hard games like Super Ghouls N Ghosts are only hard until you work out how to beat it. Meaning alot of the time It's only hard at first .. until you work it out.. kinda like math .. but actually fun
Really not a fan of the soundtrack, I don't think it fits the look of the game nor the gameplay at all. Gameplay looks pretty fun, tho. I might pick it up if it isn't too expensive.
Ok, they think the game is to hard. But they can still keep it in as a hardmode for the truly diehard, I suppose!
Looks pretty good, digging the music. Kinda reminding me of cross between Castlevania and Prince of Persia and something else I can't quite put my finger on.
Based on that trailer I think they made the right choice.
@shaneoh I hope so too. The release of Radiohammer has renewed my belief that we might actually get more eshop games.
Love the sound track!m/ the metal it comes from hell.
I'm game. But then a metal soundtrack will always speak to me! As long as a game is fair and responsive (e.g. Bloodborne), then I don't have a problem with something being difficult.
But I hope they don't fall into the same design pitfalls as the first 3 Castlevanias. I think they're actually quite poorly designed in terms of their difficulty. And the stairs are atrocious. At least Super Castlevania IV put it right.
But my bombasity aside, bring it on! Also, I love that press statement.
Looks good! I don't mind very difficult games but one thing that does irk me is too many cheap deaths in a game. If that is one of the issues then it will only end up being a better experience.
I'd never heard of this until now but I'll definitely consider getting it!
As long as the controls are responsive, hard is good. Slain! looks intriguing and should have the folks at Komani smacking there foreheads and saying why aren't we doing this?!?
Interesting. I'm a sucker for metroidvanias, if it 's one...
Although I must say that art is kinda fuzzy. Doing an organic and free-hand style with pixels isn't a winning combination most of the time... They should've made it with higher definition scans of hand drawn art.
hard for the sake of being hard is no fun
I saw the trailer, I saw the player's character being killed quite some time.
But is it because the game is that hard? Or just because they assembled thr trailer in a way making the game look hard?
Did one of the developers themselves played their game and succeeded? Or did even the dev team struggle on the way to finish the game?
Questions over questions.
I hope it's more of a traditional Castlevania game and not this Dash-Fest we see now.
Yes, please! And put in the original difficulty as an un-lockeable extra! Give us the opportunity to prove the game designer wrong!
Probably doomed to have uninspiring gameplay. Does not give me confidence about it at all.
Aw, but I like near-impossible challenges.
In any case, I'm glad this article is here because while I remembered the game I couldn't remember the title, so I couldn't keep track of it until now.
Great soundtrack in the trailer, really fits the theme.
Good lord, I want this game right now! I love the look and the metal soundtrack immediately made me smile. Bring it on!
