Re: Bravely Default II Is No Longer A Nintendo Switch Exclusive

Heavyarms55

I bought this game based on the hype but...

It's good but... I don't know. It's missing something. It just didn't pull me in like Xenoblade or Octopath or Tales of Vesperia or Dragon Quest... or really any of the big JRPGs I've played in recent years.

I can't really put my finger on exactly what it is missing though. It just didn't pull me in.

Re: Talking Point: As The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Is Shut Down, Where Do You Stand On Nintendo's Takedowns?

Heavyarms55

I absolutely agree with a person or a company's right to control their own IP. That said, I think there's legitimate reasoning to allow fan projects as well.

Nintendo seems reasonably consistent on this issue, so I am okay with it. It would bother me more if they played favorites, allowing some but not others.

I also think they need to better clear up their rules on what is allowed and what is not.

Re: Pokémon Trading Card Game Adds New Fusion Strike Style Mechanic In Upcoming Set

Heavyarms55

@marnelljm I play and watch the game. I don't see any of the issues you seem to have with it. You're entitled to like or dislike whatever you wish but I don't have to agree. The game is blazing, it's selling like mad. And yeah, a lot of that is scalpers at first, but scalpers don't scalp things that aren't popular and sought after.

PTCGO is super active. I can hop on any time of day and never have to wait for a game.

I watch several TCG YouTube channels and the only issue I consistently see is people wanting more. More cards, more products, more game.

There's some balance issues. But that's just metagame variation you see from time to time in any card game.

Re: Zavvi Launches New 'Pokémon Explorer' Clothing Range (UK)

I always hesitate to buy graphic t-shirts from unfamiliar companies online. I have been burned before with nice pictures printed on dirt cheap shirts that fall apart in mere months.

I am willing to pay more for quality items. Laugh all you want, I have several decade old t-shirts from Hot Topic that I still wear and still look decent. Compared to random online retailers where I got several shirts that were little more than cheap rags after less than 6 months.

Re: Talking Point: Million-Dollar Retro Game Auctions Help Remind Us What Matters Most

Heavyarms55

This might be considered rude in some circles but... I don't really consider people who spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on stuff like this as collectors.

Normal folks just don't have that kind of money to burn.

This is the wealthy trying to turn everything into an investment game. Also known as gambling - because yes, that's what investments really are, a gamble. But being an "investor" is seen as respectable while "gamblers" are disreputable.

But I digress. Be it retro video games or Pokemon cards or maybe media merchandise or whatever. When we see these kinds of prices, it's not Johnny McLifetimefan. It's Billy McWantsToMakeADollar. It's people who are buying these things with the hope of selling them later at a higher price.

While collectors will buy and sell things too, they're in it for their passion, their hobby. The money might be nice, but it's not the goal.

While there probably are the disgustingly wealthy elite who are also hobbyists and fans - I just can't wrap my head around normal people spending the kind of money we always hear about on these items.

Re: Nintendo's Giving Away LEGO Mario Keychains As Part Of New LEGO VIP Partnership

Heavyarms55

I was looking at Lego the other day while buying some gifts for my cousin's children, and I have to say, we're lucky.

We're lucky that video games haven't gone up in price the way Lego have. I can't believe just how massively expensive Lego is now. I'm shocked it has remained successful at the prices they sell at.

Kits that would have been 40-50 USD back in the 90s and 2000s are now nearly double that range. And there are kits well in excess of that as well. The whole range of toys seems nearly double the price it was 20 years ago. Maybe not quite double, I concede I could be misremembering, but I would remember spending that kind of money on them - as I often got gift cards for Christmas/Birthday so I could choose the sets I like.

If video games had increased like Lego have, then we're probably be spending 80-120 dollars per game right now.

Re: Pokémon HOME Will Support Diamond And Pearl Remakes And Legends: Arceus From 2022

Heavyarms55

This is good news indeed! Gives me hope that Home will indeed be what Bank should have been. A way to preserve our collection going forward from multiple games! So that when Pokemon rotate back into the format in future games, we can bring back existing members of those species we already have.

A couple years in and I still consider the limited Pokedex the correct decision. It made SWSH have a fantastic metagame in VGC that I really enjoyed!

I look forward to new formats continuing to bring new mixtures of new and returning Pokemon.

As a fan of TCGs like Pokemon, Hearthstone and MTG, rotations are a given and were long overdue in Pokémon's video games.

Re: A Will Smith Bad Boys Skin Appears To Be Coming To Fortnite

Heavyarms55

I keep saying this because it keeps being true. Though I really dislike so many things about Fortnite, I mean so many things...

I can't help but have a level of respect for whoever or whatever it is that allows them to make so many deals with so many different companies to bastardize so many different IP.

Personally, I'm convinced they made some kind of Supernatural style deal with a crossroads demon or something.

Speaking of which, 10 bucks says Sam and Dean and Castiel end up in this game eventually too. With their Impala too. lol

Re: Random: Sakurai Doesn't Appreciate Being Featured In Some Memes

Heavyarms55

That ship has sailed Sakurai. And you know full well. People don't actually respect you. They only want things from you.

Welcome to the internet in 2021. Surprise! It's a terrible place because human beings are terrible creatures who are more inclined to be such with the "protection" of an anonymous username.

Re: A New Limited-Time Pokémon Sword And Shield Coalossal Distribution Event Has Begun

Heavyarms55

Aside from the novelty of this being based on Wolfe's Pokemon, there's nothing special here. You could make this Pokemon yourself from scratch in about an hour or so.

But if you play SWSH competitively - which is the only reason you'd want this - but don't actually already have a Coalossal... where have you been this whole time? It's probably one of the absolute BEST Pokemon possible in a dynamax metagame.

Which makes it being given away now kinda funny, since we just started the first non-dynamax metagame since SWSH dropped. lol

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Info Is Coming "Soon", Says The Pokémon Company

Heavyarms55

@Bret lol, you say that like I haven't. I have played a ton of them. But I think they tend to push things too far for the average player. I like them personally but I wouldn't want the vanilla games to be that tough. Then younger players would struggle a lot. I want the games to be accessible but to still require the player to understand the basic mechanics beyond just over leveling and winning.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Info Is Coming "Soon", Says The Pokémon Company

Heavyarms55

It doesn't matter what they tell us or what this game is. I can promise you that the community won't be happy. They never are.

Me, I just want to know what the point is to the game and if it retains traditional battle mechanics and Multi-player.

I really do not want real-time battles or any trainer involvement. I'd much rather have them actually make a fun and just modestly challenging single player experience that leads into Multi-player post game content.

Pokemon's battle mechanics are excellent. But I would forgive single player only fans for disagreement because the vanilla Pokemon games make little use of those mechanics in-game. You don't even need to know the type chart to beat most vanilla Pokemon games. That's not because the mechanics are bad but because they do design the games to be beatable by 5 year Olds who can't read...
