Nintendo Switch is lacking apps for various major streaming services, but a pretty big one has gone live today. Pokémon TV, the app which has a lot of series, specials and replays of top-level competitive championships, is now live on the Switch eShop.
It's free to download now globally, and as you can see in the trailer above it should complement equivalent apps on phones and tablets. We've fired it up on a UK Switch, and though you can login with an account for a more customised experience you can also simply sign in as a guest and watch anything for free. It seems snappy, and you can also enable subtitles if needed.
It's a nice addition for the system; let us know if you're planning to try it out!

That is cool but IF you had Netflix they also have a ton of pokemon stuff you can enjoy but this is also nice.
That's pretty neat, lots of Pokémon video at demand.
It really seems to be no strings attached, completely free, no ads.
No login or Nintendo Switch Online subscription required either.
Sorry for being stupid. This is free?
@moodycat I wish it had every. Right now it’s only seasons 12, 13, and 21-23. They cycle them and the different movies through.
@GrailUK yes it's free
They are really slow in rotating the available seasons. I really want to watch Johto and have never seen it on there. Season 1 abd 2 are always available though
@traceman Oh. Nice to have I guess
This is great! The Switch has a lot of potential in the home entertainment department. I know Sony and Microsoft usually cater their consoles to this role, but I can see as the Switch gets older more apps like this appearing.
Pokémon on the OLED Switch. Yeah, that's going to be great.
No Jynx episode, I presume?
Nice but it needs to include some exclusive Pokemon shows on there or include shows that give out free Pokemon Sword and Shield or Pokemon Snap unlockables to those who tune in. A majority of these could already be watch for free on a browser through phone or tablet.
Great app.
But at the same time:
Does it have pokemon movies?
Any chance we can get the TGC on Switch too?
OT: Switch has lost another exlusive title. Bravely Default 2 is coming to PC.
@GrailUK they really need to put that on Switch it's already on tablets the Switch would be perfect for it
Man. If only my switch headphone port worked. It broke 2 years after my warranty is over.
@Screen yup right now Pokémon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages is on it, they seem to cycle through them
I wont use it much but why it don't give the option to watch the Anime in Japanese? Many prefer the original dub
Would have been nice but unfortunately this seems to be region locked in our IP and would require a VPN. Likely due to Netflix owning the rights to broadcast here.
Seeing as the anime episodes are dub only it’s a hard pass.
Ever since they showed they don’t care and started removing music and editing the show, watching it subbed is the only way to go.
Downloaded
Pretty cool!
Already Downloaded
Nice!
Would have been nicer to get a proper spectator mode for SWSH but I suppose that ship had probably sailed at this point.
Shield is my first endeavor into the Pokemon series but sadly I could not get into the game. with that said, I’m not a fan of Pokemon but it’s great that they have this app available for the fans to enjoy
So what Johto is season 3?
@CodyMKW Yeah, I would have thought.
So....
Is that kind of Youtube but with Pokemon episodes only ?
Hah season 1 for me, too. The latino dub gives me chills. Great voice acting.
It's of the few Netflix shows where I'm fine with them only having season 1 available.
Electric Soldier Porygon
noo! i don't want this
How long will it take to watch every Pokémon episode? I only seen the first 20 or so episodes.
@Dafirelive Get a USB DAC (sound card / headphone adaptor). There are some cheap ones that are compatible with the Switch. Do some research before buying (check this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/b7r1dv/usb_dac_support_os_ver_70_edition/ ).
Apple's USB-C headphone adaptor isn't compatible. I bought one to see if it worked with the Switch because it's one of the cheapest I could find.
Then I ordered a UGREEN USB sound card, which is based on the C-Media HS-100B chip. This one works fine.
There are also USB-C Bluetooth headphone dongles for the Switch.
@Selfish Elle
My kids had SHREK 2 and a couple others. Was actually pretty nice on long car trips.
Downloaded, launched, noticed no Polish language, uninstalled. Guess my niece will not be watching Pokemon on uncle's Switch.
If you're wondering Netflix does have the series dubbed in Polish, at least Indigo, Alola and Journeys series, and some movies. So it's not like Nintendo would have to do the dub themselves.
Not in Russia, which counts as EU region
From the article and the video (without sound because I'm on public transport). I can't tell what Pokemon TV is. Perhaps the article should explain? Series and specials of what?
@Moistnado https://watch.pokemon.com/
@Audiogore0733 Netflix isnt on Switch though.
This app has been around for a long time, its just now coming to Switch.
I discovered this on the eShop today. It's awesome, and totally free.
@Anti-Matter kinda but its not made by youtube or anything
