If you decide to purchase a digital copy of Pokémon Legends: Arceus - arriving in January next year - you'll be rewarded with some extra items for your new adventure in the Hisui region.
In a post on Twitter, Nintendo has mentioned how players who buy a digital version will receive 30 Heavy Balls.
The Hisui region is ripe for your exploration. It won’t be long before you can start your research in #PokemonLegendsArceus. By purchasing the digital version of the game, you’ll also receive a free download bonus of 30 Heavy Balls at launch!
Heavy Balls are designed for catching well... "very heavy" Pokémon according to the series' most recent descriptions. Like other balls in this particular entry, the Heavy Balls will look a bit different from the modern version. Once again, it's worth noting this is a free bonus, and these particular Poké Balls should be readily available in the game.
As previously revealed, trainers who pick up a copy of the new Legends game will also receive a special Hisuian Growlithe Kimono outfit. This offer will be available up until 9th May next year.
Will you be purchasing a digital or physical copy of this game? Tell us down in the comments.

It's a nice little bonus for those who go digital, for sure. I'm still going physical either way.
Physical as always.
Other Pokeballs are always can be obtained anytime.
#letsgophysical 🤟
I'm probably getting it physically, since my console has no room for more digital games at the moment. Plus, Heavy Balls really aren't a big deal, seeing as you can always buy or craft more of them anyways.
I know, I know, don't complain, but gamefreak always has the weakest promotions. I guess I should be glad they're not offering us potions
Thirty heavy balls? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Thirty heavy balls to bribe us not to read reviews before buying? I'll admit I'm pretty dumb, but I'm not that gullible.
They can have my heavy balls
Was really hyped by the open world thing, but then I was like, wait a minute, what the hell is this landscape. It looks worse than a ps2 game. FF12 remaster looks better than this.
Wow some of those textures look like pure garbage.
The top screen looks pretty sweet, love the style of this.
Removed - unconstructive
Couldn't care, still going physical.
In a few years: buy digital, and receive a bonus download that enables high res, color and sound in Pokemon, gotta catch all your money! Also announcing DLC including dialouge, more than 5 creatures, and ability to level up your pokemon.
Giving you thirty heavy balls at the beginning of your adventure is honestly a pretty backhanded gesture.
Those items are only effective on around 90 species of Pokémon weighing at least 440.9lbs, the majority of which are ones that have fully evolved, would be encountered much later into an adventure, or would not be wild encounters due to their evolution methods.
It's made more insulting by the fact heavy balls are less effective than regular Poké Balls when used on lightweight Pokémon, like the Starly in that promotional screenshot.
Edit: Turns out that Legends Arceus has completely changed how Heavy Balls function, something that this article does not highlight itself.

Guess it‘s not dangerous to go alone if you have thirty heavy balls.
Sweet! pre-ordered mine day 1, wouldn't mind a mythical early on as well😉😉 ...😲💨marshadow😷
Better than buying the BDSP double pack and getting just 200 regular pokeballs
I've already got a pair of heavy b.... Oh wait...
Nooo thank you, I am done with pre-ordering games. This time around I'm going to wait until it comes out, see if it's any good and then decide whether to purchase.
If recent games are anything to go by, NPCs will be giving me loads of unwanted items anyway.
@BreathingMiit I was thinking the same (I’m also not risking it) but I think this is still available after launch?
When you Google this game, there seems to be a lot of hate towards it and how it looks. I think it is looking pretty awesome, and finally a true budget upgrade for the franchise.
@CupidStunt yeah same here, the game even in its initial reveal looks really pretty and I'm really looking forward to just getting lost in some of the environments as my bidoof legion trail behind me
@JellyPop From the Nintendo website:
"Players who purchase and download the game before May 9th, 2022 at 4:59pm PT from Nintendo eShop will get an email with a code for 30 Heavy Balls which can be redeemed through the Mystery Gifts* feature until May 16th, 2022 at 4:59pm PT."
You have enough time to read reviews and get the Heavy Balls gift as well.
Heavy balls sound like an easily obtainable item in-game, maybe I'm wrong tho, but they better offer something more special if they want to attract early purchases. The kimono looks fine I guess.
This promotion and article headline is just asking for it Too easy so I'll let it pass this time!
@Bl4ckb100d
Legends Arceus features Apricorn balls, so it appears most types of Poké Balls will be available through crafting.
Also, something of a marketing blunder, most players are familiar with heavy balls being useful only for catching heavy Pokémon.
This game has changed it so that they're more effective on Pokémon that have not noticed your presence.
From the official site,
"Heavy Balls are a special variety of Poké Balls that are more effective at catching Pokémon that haven’t yet noticed you. They’re heavier than regular Poké Balls, so they don’t fly very far. You’ll want to make sure you sneak close to a Pokémon before using one of these!"
Never preorder. Wait and see if the game is playable at launch first.
You're kidding right? It's a freebie, and we don't know yet how rare this specific ball is gonna be in this game, but they're just Pokeballs. In 8 generations of games I have never found it even slightly difficult to have enough Pokeballs on my character.
@RupeeClock thanks for the info! I didn't know about the crafting system, I suddenly got really hyped for this game
I got heavy balls when I preorderd mumps.
@sanderev @RupeeClock I was just getting ready to post both of those, to debunk the weird complaints already permeating the comment section here. Thanks for doing your due diligence, unlike some people here.
The Legends Arceus website has some information that didn't make it into the direct, but I'm pretty sure they mentioned the heavy ball change in there.
Personally I hate these kind of gifts/DLC that make you start with extra items. I want to play the game the way it was intended. These starting items either cheapens the experience (if pokéballs turn out to be scarce in the beginning) or have no impact at all.
They better stick to cosmetic items as pre-order bonuses IMHO.
So far I've been pretty dissapointed by the Pokémon games I've played so far on the switch, so this must get some very good reviews for me to give it a try.
@dBackLash
Yeah, agreed 100%. Gameplay boosters like this are the lamest form of DLC.
I'm still waiting to learn what the purpose of this game is gonna be. As someone who has never really felt the need to "catch 'em all" I do wonder if there really is anything for me in here.
@dBackLash You get a code that you need to enter ingame to get the balls. If you don't like it, you can always not use the code.
I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the special incentives to purchase digital copies of games, unless special content would be available later as paid DLC.
Of course, this is how Nintendo makes more money because they gain much more profit from digital compared to physical. And at least this digital exclusive isn't truly exclusive, because all it does is give you a bonus of in-game items.
Age of Calamity, on the other hand, still needs to add the Lucky Ladle as paid DLC. That is only exclusive to those who got the game digitally.
Which came first, Heavy Balls or Schweddy Balls?
