Re: Metroid Dread amiibo Functionality Revealed

Heavyarms55

@WallyWest Here's the difference between that Avenger's DLC and Amiibo: With Amiibo you get the figure! Amiibo are very very high quality collectibles. Especially at the price point they sell at. And those are just cosmetic items. They aren't even useful ones. I'd prefer they be unlockable in game somehow, but I don't mind that at all.

I do agree that the Skyward Sword Amiibo is a poor choice. It's locking an actual feature behind a DLC paywall at launch. That I don't like.

Re: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Reimagines The Classics On Switch

Heavyarms55

@Ghost_of_Hasashi I don't disagree with the idea that it has some redeeming qualities. It's not inherently bad or anything.

But if you think I give a crap what reviewers or other gamers have to say about the game, then you're wasting your time.

I'm not saying you or anyone else who likes the game shouldn't. Enjoy what you enjoy.

But in my honest opinion, it bombed, it deserved to bomb too. I don't like the vast majority of the changes they made. The only regret I have is that it bombing all but killed the series for over a decade.

It's the internet. People disagree. We just gotta deal with that.

Re: Metroid Dread amiibo Functionality Revealed

Heavyarms55

I've grown really tired of Nintendo's half-hearted approach to Amiibo.

Are they done or not? Are they willing to do something with them, or not?

I want them to be functional in games, but I agree that they things they do should be also obtainable without the figures. BOTW handled that really well. Everything from Amiibo you could also get in game normally too.

But then we have things like FE3H where the game had some Amiibo support but they didn't really do anything, and I'm still salty we didn't get female Byleth or the 3 lords. (Really I just want Edelgard. But my profile pic probably tells you that)

I'm still saltly we never had Pokemon Amiibo cards too. Like we have Animal Crossing Amiibo cards.

Nintendo, either drop the support, or actually do something with Amiibo please!

Re: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Reimagines The Classics On Switch

Heavyarms55

@Ghost_of_Hasashi Yeah, no. I don't agree with that at all. I do not like that game. I don't like the story at all, nor the tone.

There were a few mechanics they added that I liked and a few new unit types. But that's about all.

I put hundreds of hours into AW1, 2 and Dual Strike, each. Days of Ruin lost me in barely 20.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Delivered An Excellent E3 Direct For Fans Old And New

Heavyarms55

I wouldn't call it excellent. There were a few gems announced, and nothing was really bad. But it could have been a LOT better.

I feel like there weren't really any major new announcements. As much as I love Advance Wars and as much as I know people wanted Warioware too, neither of those are major releases, one is a remake the other is a mini-game collection.

Metroid Dread was probably the biggest announcement but even that is really only a second string Nintendo series. It's not in the same league as Mario, Mario Kart, Smash, Zelda or Pokemon. I really don't think it's even as big of a deal as Xenoblade or Fire Emblem to be honest. Not a 2D Metroid.

BOTW2 doesn't count in my opinion either. We already knew the game was coming and they didn't really tell us anything new about it.

No, I would rate the E3 Direct as a B or B-. Good, but just good. And it could have been so much better.

Re: Mario Party Superstars Will Have You Partying Like It's 1999

Heavyarms55

@Donkey-Kong-Fan Golly it's not like DLC have ever changed the rules to a game or introduced new modes or anything...

Except that that's exactly what all the best DLC tend to do.

All they need to do has have a controller mode and a joycon mode. And the cost of items is nothing. It's literally just a single value in the code. I know almost nothing about programing. But even I could change something like that.

Re: Soapbox: The Zelda: Breath of The Wild 2 Trailer Is Already Spawning Theories

Heavyarms55

I was really hoping BOTW2 would not just make Zelda a damsel in distress for the 879,234th time.

Ideally, I'd love for HER to be the one saving Link, for once, with you playing as Zelda.

Another option would be to play as both of them at different points during the game, or even be able to switch between them at will.

It's a sequel to BOTW so we know it's going to be at least a solid "good". But if Zelda herself is playable for at least a big portion of the game, that would be a huge win in my book.

But I would even settle for her not being directly playable, but being a support character fighting alongside Link in some fashion. I'm just so insanely tired of saving damsels in distress. It's 2021, stop treating women like it's still 1861.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda

Heavyarms55

This is a neat collector's item, but them doing this just makes me have to ask:

Where is the Game Boy+GBA mini? Clearly it wouldn't be hard for them to release such a thing, looking at this and the other Game and Watch collectible.

To be honest, I'd prefer a collection of Game Boy and GBA games on NSO on Switch, but a Game Boy+GBA mini console would also be super cool.

Re: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Reimagines The Classics On Switch

Heavyarms55

@leo13 That's interesting as I vastly prefer Dual Strike to Days of Ruin. The choice to replace the entire cast with new characters and the darker tone plus, in my opinion, strange story just didn't work for me at all. Where I played AW, AW2 and DS like mad, hundreds of hours, for each game, I think I put maybe 20 hours into DoR before selling it and it being one of the few games I don't regret selling as I doubt I'd ever pick it up again.

I don't mean other people can't or shouldn't enjoy it, but I certainly didn't.

Re: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version Confirmed For Switch

Heavyarms55

Cloud version? Hard pass! I'm not paying $60 to borrow a game that I can't play without an internet connection. How about $5 dollars? Just like when I used to rent games from Hollywood Video in 2004. Okay, inflation, $8 and I'd consider it.

Did they even mention this in the Direct? I don't remember them saying that, but I wasn't watching that closely at this point.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot + A New Power Awakens Set Brings The Fight To Switch

Heavyarms55

I'm pretty surprised by this. I really didn't think it would come to Switch.

The thing is, it's been out on other systems for a while now. So just because of that, a lot of people who might have preferred it on Switch, have already played it elsewhere. It's not going to sell as well as a result and people will once again say:

"nINtenDo fAns no liek 3Rd parti gamez! C! dIs game sold batter on PS4!"

And of course none of them will care it's been out for a year an a half on other systems. Make that argument to me if the game is released on Switch at the same time as other platforms. Which almost never happens and is the real reason many 3rd party games see lower sales.

Back on topic, if this game reviews well, I might want to pick it up. I'm not a fan of modern Dragon Ball Super really at all. But I grew up with DBZ and enjoyed it. Since this game seems to focus on DBZ, I might enjoy a trip down nostalgia lane without hours at a time of "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" power up filler. XD

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Is A Switch Exclusive Launching This November

Heavyarms55

@jcboyer515 Yeah that's a fair point too.

Again, if it turns out that it is a fully fleshed out main character that we can just happen to choose a name for, I am fine with that. A lot of great games have done that - though it bugs me that you end up having all these voiced lines and no one will ever refer to the MC by their name because they wanted to let us name the MC.

But if it turns out that it is a self insert blank slate but we can't customize the character beyond the name? That will annoy the crap out of me.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Is A Switch Exclusive Launching This November

Heavyarms55

@jcboyer515 Doesn't look that way to me. Unless it was a girl dressed as a guy. The person in the trailer was clearly a boy. He looks more feminine after he fuses with the demon, but I think that's it.

If it turns out that the MC is a fully written protagonist with a defined personality like Shulk in Xenoblade or Ryza in Atelier Ryza, then I'm fine with only having a male MC.

But since you can name your MC as seen in the English trailer where his name is just "Protag", it seems like it's one of those games where the MC is meant to be a reflection of the player, with a bare minimum of of personality for story reasons. If that's the case but we can't choose a girl option, that's gonna annoy the crap out of me.

It's 2021. Any game where you can customize/make your own your character should let you pick boy or girl.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Is A Switch Exclusive Launching This November

Heavyarms55

Do we know if there is any chance for a girl protagonist? If this is a "ordinary person pulled into another world" trope, and we have a character that's supposed to be a reflection of the player, I really want the option to play as a girl. It's 2021, if it's not a fully written character with a distinct personality, like, say, Shulk or Rex from Xenoblade 1 and 2, then we should be able to choose boy or girl.

Re: The Japanese Shin Megami Tensei V Trailer Is Different To The Western One

Heavyarms55

I just hope we don't have to play as this male protagonist. I really want at least the option to play as a girl.

It looks like they're going with the "ordinary person pulled into another world" trope. And the whole ordinary person trope is usually done to make it easier for the player or viewer to insert themself and imagine themself in this world.

So give us the option to play as either a boy or a girl!

Re: Mario Party Superstars Will Have You Partying Like It's 1999

Heavyarms55

Don't get me wrong, I want to play this.

But why is this a new game? I'm watching them play it on Treehouse right now. It looks like it's clearly built off of the Super Mario Party engine.

I'm gonna say it. This should have been a DLC expansion. It might be remaking classic boards, but there is no reason to have it be a standalone game anymore.

Re: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Reimagines The Classics On Switch

Heavyarms55

@Dualmask I used to do the same thing! I've said for years that a big part of why I love the Switch so much is because of all the time I spent playing the same games on GBA and GBA player on the TV.

@Ghost_of_Hasashi Yeah, Days of Ruin lived up to its name in the worst way. Who thought it was a good idea to replace the entire cast of the series and have that weird story like in parasite plants and stuff?

I adore the first 3 games and played them to death! But Days of Ruin? I think I put maybe 20 hours in, compared to hundreds of hours in the previous titles.

@Spiders I think you can count of a map editor. Both of the originals had it. I can't imagine them cutting the feature for a remake. Although... to be fair, I couldn't imagine them replacing the entire cast and writing a super weird infectious plant story for Days of Ruin. So, say 98% change of map editor.

Re: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Reimagines The Classics On Switch

Heavyarms55

BEST ANNOUNCEMENT OF E3! Hands down, no competition, this is the winner! I was freaking screaming like a school girl! I was bouncing up and down in my chair like a madman!

Advance Wars 1 and 2 defined my childhood! So many memories! Advance Wars was the first game I got on GBA, and I will never forget opening it Christmas morning! My parents had placed the game on top of the GBA, and I opened the game first. I was all ready to be sad because I wouldn't be able to play it, then I realized what the last present must have been!

Between both games I dropped hundreds and hundreds of hours! I spent so much time making and playing maps, and war room and campaign mode!

Re: Exclusive: Super Rare Shorts On Skipping Switch eShop With Physical-Only Games

Heavyarms55

Business strategy, let's make our product as hard to find as possible!

No, no, I can't even make a joke out of this. This idea makes almost no sense to me at all. Especially not now, in this world where scalpers buy anything they can possibly flip!

Yes, visibility is an issue for indie games. So explain to me why making it way harder to get a copy of a game is going to fix that? All it's gonna do is result in a subset of games on Switch that end up massively expensive for collectors, just because there are so very few copies in existence.

Re: Random: What If Nintendo Just Released A Basic Switch XL?

Heavyarms55

If the only change were to the size of the unit and nothing else, I almost certainly wouldn't upgrade. That's just not enough.

But if it were a bigger screen, better battery, second SD card slot, native Bluetooth audio and the larger screen was also higher quality, but the same performance specs?

That I would buy.

Re: Switch Was Outsold By PS5 And Xbox Series X|S In The UK Last Month

Heavyarms55

Fun fact, something else doing well, doesn't mean you're doing poorly.

It's not like people stopped buying Switch, it's just that Sony and MS actually had some stock in, so the people who wanted those machines were actually, finally, able to get them.

I have been saying this for a while but, we're talking about 300 - 500 dollar electronic luxury items. I REALLY don't think there are that many people who walked into a store wanting a PS5, saw it was out of stock, and bought the very different type of device that is the Switch, instead. Same with Xbox.

On the other hand, PS5 and Xbox are virtually the same machines, providing almost the same performance and having mostly similar game libraries. I absolutely think there are plenty of people who couldn't find one and bought the other instead.

Re: Review: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power - A Kid-Friendly Alternative To Grimdark DC

Heavyarms55

@Deltath You're not wrong that people do have a tendency to buy known IP over new IP. With games, movies or books, it's that comfort provided by "hey, I liked this author or studio in the past, so they'll probably make something good again"

But I feel like that's turned into a crutch for games and movies. (Less so with books because there isn't as much financial investment in books - usually). Look at all the remakes, reimagining's and sequels we get in games and movies these days. I don't mean we shouldn't get that. But devs and studios need to be willing to do new things again eventually.

Using established characters in new settings with drastically altered personalities and personal stories is the coward's way of doing that.

Re: Nintendo Resumes Distribution Of Switch System Update 12.0.3

Heavyarms55

@Kaori-chan Doesn't seem that way to me. Very much seems like butthurt. The stability "jokes" always come alongside a laundry list of "why didn't they do X, Y or Z?!"

And in my experience, if you have to point out that it was just a joke, then it either wasn't a good one, or more often, wasn't a joke at all and saying it is, is just a shield to stop people from being annoyed or upset.

Re: Review: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power - A Kid-Friendly Alternative To Grimdark DC

Heavyarms55

@Rambler That's the thing though, both Marvel and DC are especially guilty of this. They'd rather take an established character, that's already popular, then change that character to fit a new story they want to tell. It's an ironically lazy habit from companies that are responsible for so much creativity in the past. And in the present. Because they are still fully capable of making great stories. But they don't put that effort into new characters anymore.

It's also the kind of corporate thing I dislike with regards to IP. I know they own the characters, but generally these changes aren't made by the original authors. Just because they have all the legal rights too, I think they shouldn't make such drastic changes to established characters without the original authors still around.

It's just me nitpicking in the end. I know that. But still.

Re: Review: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power - A Kid-Friendly Alternative To Grimdark DC

Heavyarms55

I get what this is and who it's for. But I wish shows and games alike would put the effort in to writing new characters for their works, instead of taking established characters and changing them until they fit whatever story you want to tell. In my opinion, if a story is compelling enough to tell, if the game is fun enough to play, you shouldn't have to rely on "borrowed" IP.

Re: Superman Has A Gun In Fortnite's New Alien-Themed Season

Heavyarms55

I can't stand Fortnite at all. Really dislike it. But I can't deny that I'm impressed that they manage to get, basically ALL the licensing deals. Whoever they have doing that kind of negation at Epic Games, they're either a genius, or they have blackmail, or there's some deal with the devil they have made.

I don't like the game at all, but I can't deny the really impressive levels of success they have had. I don't understand or agree, but I can't deny it.
