I agree with Nintendo's stance in protecting their IP. They made these games, their people, their creativity, their hard work. They have every right to want it to be distributed only the way they want. If they are not able to profit off of their own work, the company will fail and all the people who make up that company would be out of a job.
The reason I agree with that is simple. If I put that kind of work into making something. If I spent years of my life on it. With a major point of that work being making a product to sell as a source of income toward my livelihood. And I followed all the appropriate laws and got my work copywritten or patented or insert relevant laws... I would be furious if people just took it and started making mass amounts of copies of and spreading it all over the internet for free - or worse yet making money off of MY work.
And I also find the idea that people have, that they're entitled to a game just because it's a few years old or no longer for sale to be... well, entitled and selfish. We are NOT entitled to someone else's work, no matter how old or hard to purchase legitimately.
HOWEVER I also believe this to be a losing battle. @Anti-Matter made a good comparison. It's like trying to fight a Hydra. Every time you stop someone from doing it, several more show up in their place. I think no matter how hard any company fights, if a product is digital and can be uploaded/downloaded online, then it is inevitable that those products will be pirated.
Knowing just how much work that Chuggaconroy puts into his videos - the man is easily in the top 1% of hardest working and most dedicated YouTubers and that's simply not open for debate - I can't help but feel terrible for him.
While Sony, technically, is within their legal right to claim music to which they have publishing rights, this comes off as massively petty and greedy by them.
Really is strange that it took so long. It must have been something real weird. I certainly experienced the bug and it was unlike any other I can remember.
@DeclanS98 Look at it for other industries, if you're going to the doctor's office for medical treatment, what is more important to you, the demographics of your doctor, or their ability to treat your injury or illness?
Look at the auto industry, what is more important, the safety of the vehicle, or the genitals of the person who designed it?
We aren't talking about education, we're talking about jobs.
Groups that have historically had less educational opportunities should be helped to get those opportunities. I fully support reforming education in broad senses to make sure that people have equal educational opportunity regardless of their parent's financial status or ethnic background. But this should be done by creating more opportunities, not by denying capable students just to fit demographic quotas. Especially in America, education is MASSIVELY, INJUSTLY unequal and needs major reform. Wealthy communities have access to far better educational opportunities because education is handled on a local and state level, rather than having national/universal standards and funding. That needs to be changed.
But no, if it were my decision, choosing between two candidates, for a job position and I can only pick one of them, the most important aspect of that choice is their ability to do the job well.
Now if we're talking about something like politics, it's somewhat different. In a true representative democracy, the makeup of Congress or Parliament should reflect the demographics of the public as closely as realistically possible. Because the entire point is to represent the public.
More people isn't always a good thing. Hopefully the larger staff doesn't result in the game being pulled in too many different directions.
The first game is great, but I felt like it lacked much replayability. More characters and build options would help. Being able to replay missions with different characters would be cool.
Diversity is a wonderful thing to encourage for sure. Just so long as it's not held as more important that quality or merit.
If you have two equally skilled candidates and one is a demographic that is under-represented, I can understand and agree with choosing the one who is under-represented. But if they aren't of equal skills, then the more capable candidate is the obvious choice.
Certainly less employees that I would have assumed. Especially considering the global nature of the company.
I really don't see why they need to report the biological sex of their employees. Diversity is a good thing but forcing diversity at the cost of merit or efficiency is nonsense. Historic trends aren't going to reverse overnight. And gaming has been a male dominated industry since it started. But that is changing.
Just like video games have gone from being a niche thing only played by nerdy children in the 80s and 90s to a hobby enjoyed by almost all ages and demographics in the present day, it's only been in recent years that more and more women have been joining game development studios.
Better to honor fictional characters than to support the American pantheon. I swear some people really do worship them like some kind of new polytheistic gods. Makes me very uncomfortable at times. They're important historic figures sure, but they were just mortal humans, as flawed and imperfect as the rest of us.
Time for people who've never even been to Japan to say that Japanese people don't like home consoles because they don't have TVs. (just ignore that the main Switch consistently sells way better because those numbers don't support the nonsense stereotyping)
It's the hybrid nature of the Switch that makes it so overwhelmingly successful in Japan. You can play on TV at home, on the train to and from work/school, etc etc I've said this all before. But people still don't seem to get just how big a deal the hybrid design is.
Sony didn't pay attention. The PS Vita remained popular in Japan for years after it fizzled out in the west. If anything Sony forced it to fall off the charts in Japan by refusing to continue supporting the platform. I know I know I joke about Sony copying Nintendo with stuff like motion controls, but if Sony had released a hybrid machine, instead of a wannabe gaming PC, I bet they'd be doing much better in Japan.
@IronMan30 You forgot to say "Nintendoomed" if they don't do what you say.
I am tempted to try it after watching some game play videos.
But I am torn. Because it's Tencent and there are many valid reasons not to trust them and to dislike them. Though there's no need for me to restate them. They've all been said many times over.
And furthermore, it's F2P, a type of game design I really dislike. If it turns out that it's the kind of F2P that you need to either spend real money, or to play for tens or hundreds or even thousands of hours to make meaningful progress, then I'll be dropping the game like a hot rock.
I'll at least try it when it comes out internationally (everyone who I know who plays mobas always talks about how bad it is if you have bad ping so that's why I'm waiting). But I don't see myself spending much, if any, money on the title.
@Eel I'm mean, I'm not gonna argue over it because it doesn't matter. But I know people have been called out and censored for using it. Even just like in the subtitle.
It's not a big deal. I wouldn't have even commented about it, if I hadn't just been talking about it just last night.
@Bobb It's not sustainable though. There's a growing number of players who are getting fed up with the situation. Not everyone can afford to be spending anywhere from 10% to 250% over retail price. And even many of the people who can don't want to. It really kills a lot of the appeal. If I didn't know that TPCi was trying to fix this and still thought they were sitting back wiping their butts with 100 dollar bills, then I'd be furious with them and refusing to buy cards ever again.
I feel kinda bad for being "that guy" but at the same time, using that word in the subtitle of this article that the moderators would censor for being inappropriate kind of annoys me.
Ultimately it doesn't matter. But I was just talking about this with someone else on this site, so it's on my mind.
@HannahRPG You seem to think that's an improvement. It's not. It means if you want to mega evolve something, it needs to be your buddy. Meaning you can't use the buddy system for candy for evolutions or adventure based evo requirements.
It should just be a one time cost and then you unlock the mega stone and can mega evolve whenever you need it from then on. Like it worked in the real games. Or it should be based on a universal mega energy, instead of Pokemon specific.
There is no way you'll ever convince me the mega system in PoGo as it is right now, is even remotely decent, let alone good.
@RupeeClock It's so uncommon because the effort investment vs rewards are hilariously, unbelievably, insultingly bad.
Right now mega evolution requires energy which can only be earned in mega evo raids or very rarely from research tasks. You get enough to mega, and can mega, once and you get a few hours to enjoy it, then it's gone. And if that mega evo is no longer in raids, well then you're just done with it until it comes back.
Then add in the fact that we have to use raid passes in the first place to get mega evos and it's even worse. Raid passes are a quite limited resource as I'm sure everyone who plays knows. It's just not worth it.
Megas only give slight boosts over normal Pokemon, and slight boosts to rewards. It's just so lame. And this is me saying this as someone who often states that Pokemon Go is the best it's ever been and plays daily. Shiny hunting, legendary raids, the buddy system, trades and gifts, gym wars, Pokedex completion, I enjoy all those aspects of the game are fun. Even Team Rocket is at least tolerable. (though I'd have implemented them in a totally different fashion - as an AI based 4th team that takes over any gym that remains one color for more than 36 hours)
But the mega system is awful and PvP isn't worth even talking about.
@Tyranexx Yeah, it just seems like fluff. I don't mind it, but this doesn't seem like it's gonna change anything meaningful.
I want them to rework the mega system instead. That system is so bad. It's the second worst system in the game, after the unplayable and utterly unfun, unsalvageable mess that is PvP. The fact that you need to work so hard to get the mega energy, AND it's Pokemon specific, only to Mega once and spend a ton of it and revert a few hours later? So lame.
2 possible fixes I can think of, without totally redesigning the system:
Make mega energy universal. Make any mega raid give you energy toward mega evolution in general. That way you always have a source, regardless of what raids or research tasks are on-going.
Or
Make it so you only need to unlock the mega once. Re-label the energy as "mega stone shards" and once you collect enough for a Pokemon, you get the stone and can mega evolve it whenever you want.
As angry as I would like to be with TPCi, from what I have read they have been ramping up production more and more. But they still haven't been able to get back to a point where scalpers don't just buy everything.
It's not quite as bad as a couple months ago, but it's still nearly impossible to find cards on shelves at RRP. Not impossible but pretty close still.
After all the talk about how BOTW 2 appears to have stuff in the sky, and knowing how much of SKYward Sword is in the SKY. I think this re-release was done for more reasons than simply the anniversary. There must be some connection. I remember Skyward Sword has some time travel elements in it. So perhaps some aspect of that will return in BOTW 2.
And then add in the fact that we've not heard much about what's been added to Skyward Sword. What is the reason for that is because it's some connection with BOTW 2?
I don't mind the changes so long as they don't remove remote raid passes. COVID issues aside, I literally have friends on two continents at this point, so being able to play together is wonderful! Even just within the US I have friends in 5 different states, so I really want them to keep this feature in the game.
Pardon my ignorance, but I would assume the large number of Pokemon that lack an officially stated gender would be considered non-binary? At least Ditto would be, in my mind, since it can literally breed with anything, even some Pokemon that cannot breed with their own species.
I'm sad, but not surprised, to see all the negativity in the comments though. Not only is this a Pokemon article on NintendoLife (which is ALWAYS extremely negative these days) but it's about a topic which has a lot of people who are just utterly intolerant of it.
It hurts literally no one to allow people to express themselves as non-binary. If that's not how you choose to live your life, that's fine, but you don't get to silence other people because of it. No one it telling you that you can't be binary. No one is demanding you change. They simply want the right to live their lives how they please, something CIS folks take for granted. Mind your own business and leave them to theirs.
I'm starting to not want to click on these articles, just like anything involving Pokemon SWSH. People find something they dislike about a game, and then that's all that matter and all they talk about. Doesn't matter if there's anything good about the game, we've gotta scream about tree textures or Amiibo support or whatever.
No one is forcing anyone to buy these games. It's good to call out something you don't like, but seeing the exact same issue over and over complained about and everything else about the game smothered and ignored gets old...
I have no need to delete them with my SD card. But there have been one or two I was very sure I wouldn't want to revisit because I just didn't enjoy them. So they're gone.
I played the absolute crap out of this game. Hundreds and hundreds of hours. It's one of my most played titles on Switch. I adore it! In a lot of ways, it makes it hard to look at any other farming game, despite the fact that I really want something in the same genre to play.
The thing it, I've already built several farms, married all the folks I like, a couple more than than once, and done very nearly everything there is to do.
I feel like I've pretty much milked it dry. I'm sure I'll play more again at some point. But it'll be a while.
@JasmineDragon My issue with Mineral Town was just that it all felt very basic. It very much felt like the kind of game that had inspired Stardew Valley. But since I played SV so much already it just didn't feel that interesting.
@Cooe Good points. But it's not Gen Z or Millennials or Boomers or any specific age group. Not for this. I have seen all ages of people falling into this line of entitled thinking.
Normally I don't like that word, entitled or entitlement, because it gets thrown around so much. But I feel it really fits here. Video games are purely luxury items. And while every wants some degree of luxury items, no one is entitled to them. It's very different to food, water, shelter, Healthcare and education. Those are all things we need to function reasonably in society.
But video games? If one doesn't like the price, or can't afford it, I can understand being angry or disappointed, but that's all.
@Burning_Spear Is there a better Story of Seasons on Switch then? I tried the GBA remake and it was... fine. But I don't have that nostalgia for it, so I just didn't get into it.
I've put hundreds and hundreds of hours into Stardew Valley but I've more or less done anything in that game I care to do. I'd like something similar but new to try.
Welcome to 2021 people. You should be glad a AAA game from a major studio is still 60 dollars.
Almost no other products have stayed as consistently priced as video games. Despite ever rising production costs and inflation.
Major new games have been 60 dollars for a long time now.
It's nothing new or abnormal. If anything, I am surprised and grateful that we aren't paying 65-75 dollars per game at this point.
And if the argument against it being full price is just because it's 2D instead of 3D, that's just entitled no sense. "Wah, wah, this game isn't my preferred genre, so it should be cheaper!"
@Joeynator3000 As much as I'd really like that, it would probably requite a lot of additional changes. Dual Strike, unlike a lot of DS games, did make a lot of use of both screens. A lot of campaign missions would need to be split or totally reworked.
That's totally something they could do, but I would understand why they might now.
@SilentHunter382 "3: Final Fantasy isn't as big in Japan as it is in the west. Dragon Quest is far more popular over in Japan."
A thought I've come to quite agree with. FF games never live up to the hype for me. I don't dislike them, but Dragon Quest comes closer to its reputation than FF does.
These charts don't account for digital sales right? So isn't the list of games kind of pointless now? You and probably assume similar trends in digital sales, but still.
I just kind of feel like hardware sales are all that really matter anymore.
So I was clearly misinformed. I thought there was no way to make your own assets and you had to use very basic looking provided stuff. If that's the case, how to these things exist? What that feature added post launch or something?
I find it weird how they're highlighting the moves as at all relevant. I guess for the people who actually play the PVP, maybe.
But non-STAB moves are almost worthless for fighting gyms or in raid battles.
I'm actually really surprised that as many people play the PVP as they do. It's easily, overwhelmingly the least appealing part of PoGo. I only ever do them when there's some outside reason, like part of a research task or something.
But I would not mind finding a shiny. Always open to more shinys!

Re: Nintendo To Give Forever Entertainment "Significant Financial Support" In New Publishing Deal
Qualtiy > Quantity.
Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Will Have "Various Quality-Of-Life Enhancements", Nintendo Says
Re: Talking Point: What's That One Switch Game You Can't Bring Yourself To Delete?
I have no need to delete them with my SD card. But there have been one or two I was very sure I wouldn't want to revisit because I just didn't enjoy them. So they're gone.
Re: There's A New Update Available For Stardew Valley On Nintendo Switch
I played the absolute crap out of this game. Hundreds and hundreds of hours. It's one of my most played titles on Switch. I adore it! In a lot of ways, it makes it hard to look at any other farming game, despite the fact that I really want something in the same genre to play.
The thing it, I've already built several farms, married all the folks I like, a couple more than than once, and done very nearly everything there is to do.
I feel like I've pretty much milked it dry. I'm sure I'll play more again at some point. But it'll be a while.
Re: The Third Story Of Seasons DLC Has A New Trailer, And Even MORE People To Marry
@Eel Were farming/life sim games not a genre before?
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@Prizm That's exactly my point.
Re: The Third Story Of Seasons DLC Has A New Trailer, And Even MORE People To Marry
@JasmineDragon My issue with Mineral Town was just that it all felt very basic. It very much felt like the kind of game that had inspired Stardew Valley. But since I played SV so much already it just didn't feel that interesting.
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
What do they expect? They think he's just gonna be like? "Yeah, I got one right here, fresh from the factory, wanna play a round of MK9?"
Re: The Third Story Of Seasons DLC Has A New Trailer, And Even MORE People To Marry
@Burning_Spear That's all? Darn. I could have sworn there were several.
Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60
Re: The Third Story Of Seasons DLC Has A New Trailer, And Even MORE People To Marry
Re: The Third Story Of Seasons DLC Has A New Trailer, And Even MORE People To Marry
So is this game worth picking up now? It had a rough start, didn't it?
Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60
Re: Nintendo Confirms Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Will Include Online Support
Re: Japanese Charts: Game Builder Garage Beats Final Fantasy VII And Ratchet & Clank To Number One
Re: Japanese Charts: Game Builder Garage Beats Final Fantasy VII And Ratchet & Clank To Number One
These charts don't account for digital sales right? So isn't the list of games kind of pointless now? You and probably assume similar trends in digital sales, but still.
I just kind of feel like hardware sales are all that really matter anymore.
Re: Random: F-Zero Is Already Being Recreated In Game Builder Garage
So I was clearly misinformed. I thought there was no way to make your own assets and you had to use very basic looking provided stuff. If that's the case, how to these things exist? What that feature added post launch or something?
Re: It's Bidoof's Time To Shine In The Newest Pokémon GO Event
I find it weird how they're highlighting the moves as at all relevant. I guess for the people who actually play the PVP, maybe.
But non-STAB moves are almost worthless for fighting gyms or in raid battles.
I'm actually really surprised that as many people play the PVP as they do. It's easily, overwhelmingly the least appealing part of PoGo. I only ever do them when there's some outside reason, like part of a research task or something.
But I would not mind finding a shiny. Always open to more shinys!
