Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art

Gryffin

Woah! Yeah I definitely think they're retrofitting her to match the movie. But it's so different. Peach has a really unique look, and it's been that way for a long time. Now they're making her look more realistic, sort of. More idealistically realistic. Like an Instagram filter. Seems like they're trying to appeal to people's more natural understanding and attraction to the human face. Not a fan at all, mostly philosophically.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 26th)

@Rooty you're playing the first Blasphemous. A couple of tips. You'll find shortcuts throughout the world. If you can push forward in whatever direction you're going until you find one back to the base, instead of back tracking and then needing to go back again. My other suggestion is do not go up the snowy mountain first. Wait until later because the boss up there is easily 10x harder than all of the others and you might rage before you've seen most of the game.

Re: Memory Pak: Making Contact With The "Ungoogleable" Game I Couldn't Quite Remember

Alright here goes. Mine is probably a DOS game. Probably point and click. Definitely top down. You're a citizen of Ancient Rome or Greece, I believe. At the beginning, I think you wake up somewhere naked, and you pass by an outdoor swimming pool where someone is swimming. His toga is on the ground, so you pick it up and wear it. That's all I remember haha. But I've been looking for years. Have spent so much time on Google and Moby Games. I posted it to the subreddit too, years ago, but they couldn't solve it.

@EarthboundBenjy oh my gosh! Castle of the Winds has been one of mine too! Until now! This is crazy. I also was thinking of this pretty recently and noted that, in retrospect, it was definitely a rogue like. I knew nothing of the sort when I played in, probably, the mid 90s. But I've always remembered it fondly. My memory was ok on it. "The sleep that looked like a snake" always stood out to me. I cannot believe that I'm scrolling through this thread and one of the games mentioned is one of my own lost to time. Thanks so much haha!

Re: Cult GBA RPG 'Riviera: The Promised Land' Is Getting An HD Remaster

Gryffin

Woah! Was not expecting this. I have it for GBA, and I've started it three times, but I never got far. The limited TP exploring is very stressful, and making the wrong choice of failing a QTE can be significantly detrimental. I also find the degrading weapon system exhausting, and the battles are way way too long. I love this game in theory but do not enjoy actually playing it.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

Gryffin

@TheExile285 Word. I recommend them. And then Guns of the Patriots. Phantom Pain is super fun but literally does not have a story, which is crazy. I'm debating whether or not to play this Snake Eater remaster or to wait for the full remake. It's one of the very very few games I've played more than once, and I'll play it again, but I might as well play he fancy new version.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

@shgamer I've been saying for months and months that Switch 2 or whatever would launch this holiday. (And before that, I thought it would launch with Zelda.) Now I'm confident it will not launch this year. A 2D Mario flagship title was the last thing I expected, but I still think it's all they've got for this year. 2D Mario is definitely not my thing at all. But maybe then Metroid Prime 4 and Odyssey 2 will launch with their next console.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

For me, this was yet another reminder that I really don't need a Switch. I've never liked 2D Mario games, but I'd be all about that if it were 3D. The whole time, I was thinking, "man, I wish this were 3D." I played and loved Pikmin 3, but I don't feel motivated to play 4 at all. Looks like the same, I guess, and I can't imagine dropping $60 for it. Very few of the 3rd party games excite me, with three exceptions. Penny's Big Breakaway is the obvious game of the Direct for me. 3D platformers are possibly my favorite genre. The next is Star Ocean. I never got around to playing them, and this remake looks awesome. The last is Metal Gear. I love all three, but Snake Eater is possibly my favorite game ever. Definitely was not expecting that. All three of these games are coming to other consoles, and Switch is easily the worst option to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Wish You Knew Sooner In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Gryffin

@Debbiee sure thing! I played for an hour this morning and had the time of my life. It is on PC also, on Epic Games Store if you have one lying around. I imagine the requirements are pretty low. Oh! It's on GeForce Now also. You'd need to buy the game on Epic, but you could play it on (almost) any computer, tablet, or phone. I can tell you that GeForce Now does play smoothly, from personal experience.
