Re: Sega Delisting 'Mega Drive Classics' On Switch eShop This December

Gryffin

@Serpenterror what I meant was that Sega and Nintendo both benefit from having Genesis games on the expansion pack, and exclusively there. I'm positive Sega gets a cut. So Sega is hurting themselves by offering a Genesis bundle that might otherwise drive players to subscribe to the expansion pack, which is more consistent revenue. Likewise, Nintendo also benefits from getting more expansion pack subscribers. What I meant by competition is that Sega is competing with itself and unnecessarily with Nintendo too. They both benefit from cooperating, almost in a "trust" way really.

Re: Review: Metal Slug Tactics (Switch) - A Good Shot At Trying Something New

Great review. I got a Lite just recently, and I've been very surprised to find that text is so tiny across the board. I had assumed there was a responsive scaling system like modern HTML. Games can detect which device is being played, right? So I'd think alternatively developers would code in unique displays for each screen.

Concerning the game, the "must move first" mechanic does sound odd and restricting. But otherwise I this the design is brilliant. I never did finish Valkyria Chronicles because of the mechanic and level design, but the armor system seems to solve those issues. I'm always curious to see how games get patched post launch. It will be interesting to see what changes they'll make in the next three months or so.

@Vyacheslav333 I see your points. First, I was not aware of premium games being delisted from mobile markets or device support being made obsolete. All digital games are technically long-term, hopefully perpetually, rentals. Any digital purchase is acknowledgement that your access might be some day denied, and trust in the publisher and platform that it might not be any time soon, or ever. I purchase eShop games knowing I might lose them, but understanding that I probably won't. Even Nintendo, who I believe cares less for it's customers than anyone else in the business, still allows us to redownload eShop titles from 3DS and Wii U even though the markets were shut down. And I'd say that's 90% for reasons of legal liability. Second, I still feel that a premium purchase is a better bet than freemium micro transactions. I know for a fact that most F2P titles are eventually shut down, and most within two to three years. I mentioned Mirrorverse earlier. Anyone who invested into Mirrorverse was for sure renting their purchases because now they're gone. I can't possibly justify spending any amount of money on F2P titles because it's a losing gamble. The only way to think about it is like going to a movie theater. You're spending X amount of money on time-limited entertainment. With Pocket Camp going premium, though, I will be buying it because it's a one-time purchase, it's not bogged down by a structure of pushing micro transactions, and I'm pretty confident it will be around for a while. But I won't be investing myself emotionally into my camp or characters because I know they could disappear at any time.

@Vyacheslav333 I actually think $20 for a full fledged game that happens to be on phones, that's been effectively in development for seven years is a fair price. Especially for Nintendo, who has no problem charging $50 (or was it $60?) for a port of a year-old Gameboy Advance game. Nintendo price gouges its fans because their fans will pay premium for any title with a Nintendo character. This is an exception.

Re: Microsoft Talks About Extending Its Gaming Content To 'New Platforms'

@shoeses On consoles, maybe not so many. On PC, thousands. I don't know what you're relationship is to PC games, but people who are in the console bubble have no clue just how many games and diversity among them exist on PC. Between Steam and Itcho.io, I couldn't count how many weird and different and experimental and revolutionary games exist that will never come to console. There's a blue ocean of games beyond first-party Nintendo titles for those who want to play PC games by whatever means they can.

@SalvorHardin I agree. I don't see them receiving Xbox sales, unless maybe they release like four killer apps in a year. I hate to admit it, but exclusives really are how I choose consoles. Wii U for Mario Kart 8, initially, then Breathe of the Wild. Heck, the Wii U was worth owning for Zelda alone, aside from the fact that it's on Switch too, and it's also one of my favorite consoles ever. PS4 is worth owning for Ghost of Tsushima. I didn't buy a PS4 until 8 years after release because I didn't feel the need to own one. Same for PS5. I'm not going to buy one until Ghost of Tsushima 2. Same for Switch. I didn't even buy a Switch. My friend gave me his old one for Tears of the Kingdom, which was unfortunately massively disappointing for me, but I've since picked up quite a few indie games that I play in bed because I did decide to buy a Lite.

@GrailUK in my opinion, Microsoft is now a third-party publisher. The Xbox consoles are an option for those who want them, but their Xbox-related focus is Game Pass Ultimate (for cloud streaming) and PC. I think they will continue to release consoles for the time being, but I think that won't last forever. They've lost the console wars, effectively, and are the modern day Sega, just 100x bigger.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Party Jamboree?

Gryffin

Does anyone not own more games than they have time to play? The concept of "I'm busy playing something else" will always always be true. I own probably 100 games I've never played. In the age of deals and bundles, I can't imagine anyone owning at least a few games more than they've played at any given time. I bought four games on Switch a couple of days ago because there were each like $2.00. And I'm in the middle of Dex, which I'm super enjoying. And before I started Dex, I was in the middle of King of the Seas, which I was also really enjoying and will probably return to.
