Re: Talking Point: Which Is Your Favourite 3DS Theme?

Gryffin

I really like the Sonic theme, so I think that's what I'll stick with. My 2DS is non-operational right now though I believe the issue is that dust/dirt is stuck between the screen and case. I've tried cleaning it out but to no avail. I found a YouTube video of a 2DS breakdown, but there are like a hundred screws and I'm afraid to break it permanently. A nice PC repair guy in the area would lik to fix it, but he's charging $50 and I simply don't have the money right now.

Re: Soapbox: After 10 Years I'm Finally Getting A Wii U, But Where Should I Start?

Do you realize the food gates you've opened with this question? You can still add money to your Nintendo amount, right? So you can use that for the eShop?

My number 1 recommendation is Pandora's Tower. It's physically exclusive to Wii and costs a fortune. But the game is incredible, so get it virtually. Likewise for Twilight Princess HD.

Wii Sports Resort is excellent if only for the flying. Literally one of my favorite gaming experiences. Nintendoland is massively underrated. The key to enjoying F-Zero is to look at the TV screen and just ignore the flashing message. And I'm not sure there are better local multiplayer games on Wii U than a couple on Nintendoland. Wii Fit U is, likewise, phenomenal. There are a few mini games that make the purchase worth it alone.

Oh yeah! The demo for Star Fox Zero is the coolest thing I've ever played. Can't speak for the full game though.

Also, Severed, if you don't already have it elsewhere.

And any and every GBA and SNES game you can afford.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 2nd)

I'm all in on Pandora's Tower. Phenomenal game. Before the Wii U eShop stopped accepting credit cards, I spent way too much time researching "hidden gems". Pandora's Tower was on many of the lists, and I cannot think of more emblematic example of a hidden gem than this game. It's incredible in every way. I am completely obsessed with following games. I spend way more time reading about games and watching trailers and gameplay than I do playing them. The fact that I had not heard of this game is astounding.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Summer Game Fest 2022 Opening Showcase?

Gryffin

Pretty dang *****. They front loaded the presentation with sci-fi shooters, one after another. They all look equally bland and I couldn't tell you the name of a single one. Big production studios are terrified taking any risks at all, so they green light the most generic mass appeal products they can find a studio to waste three years of their life developing.

Re: Soapbox: Leaving The Comfort Zone - A Quest To Find My New Favourite Games

Gryffin

"...a bad habit of going back and playing the same core group of favourites repeatedly."

I'm completely the opposite. I've replayed maybe three games ever because they're literally my favorite games. I own hundreds of games, most of which I've never played. I will never play many of them because there isn't time. In fact, I have a very hard time finishing games. I'm probably in the middle of 10 games that I really like, or even love, but I have commitment issues I guess. I've been playing SteamWorld Dig 2 on my 2DS this week. Brilliant game, but I can already feel myself drifting away. Once I've put about six hours into a game, I often move on, particularly when I feel I've seen most of what the game has to offer. These days, when I'm considering what game to play next, I look up the average time to beat. Ideally, it's under 6 hours. Under 10 is fine. But after that, I need to be very interested to start it. I wish games were shorter.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Warriors Game On Switch?

I played the demo for Samurai Warriors 5 on PS4. Surprisingly, I thought it was horrible. There was no impact. It was like slicing through butter. Then I played Hyrule Warriors on Switch, and I liked it much much better. It has actual impact.
