I was hoping to be at this game in my marathon in time for its anniversary, but I'm still on Dream Team. Hard to believe it's been three years already.
Last weekend I knocked out both Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and (for the first time ever) Super Luigi U. Luigi U was probably my favorite of all the NSMB games. I loved those quick fire levels. I'm on Dream Team now and just got to Dozing Sands. Gonna try to knock it out this weekend and then move on to 3D World. Since the Switch version is coming, I'll just be taking the quickest route to the credits that I can. Want to leave the majority of the game fresh for that version.
I'm also taking some breaks with Sniper Elite 4. You can imagine I'm feeling a bit of Mario fatigue by now. I have to say though, despite all the forced tutorials in Dream Team, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did Bowser's Inside Story. The visuals and soundtrack in Dream Team are absolutely fantastic, and I much prefer exploring Luigi's dreams over the inside of Bowser's body.
Oh, and my sister just gave her husband a Switch, Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing, and Breath of the Wild for their first anniversary, so I may see if they want to do some online play!

@COVIDberry You need to calm down. It was a joke. And I don't even play Medal of Honor or StarTropics...
And no, I don't think the concept of me looking at the title screen of Metroid is offensive. I've been playing Metroid games for 20 years since I was about 5. Get over yourself...
@TG16_IS_BAE Would make for some interesting speed running competitions! I'd also love Super Metroid Maker with original, Metroid II, Super, Fusion, Zero Mission, and Samus Returns art styles, but I doubt that's gonna happen since designing a Metroid map is a much bigger undertaking than designing a Mario level. Don't know if it's common knowledge or not, but I only found out last week... If you do it right, you'll hear Nabbit make a sound.
@dcstud I say go ahead and finish 1 and 2 first. They're all worth playing. I also don't think the first two will take you very long. The first one takes me about 4-5 hours for a full run through nowadays, and I got through Dark Moon in probably 10 or so.
Last weekend I knocked out Paper Mario Sticker Star and then spent the next week working through New Super Mario Bros U. Sticker Star was enjoyable, but I often found myself feeling bored which ain't good. In New Super Mario Bros U, I alternated between each of the characters after each level so that was kinda fun. Finished that and moved on to Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (which I really wish they had just called Luigi's Mansion 2 over here in North America).
Luigi's Mansion 2 isn't quite on the level of the original for me, but I actually do think I prefer 2 over 3. I love the multiple locations you go to throughout the game, and the suction surge you use to defeat ghosts is way more satisfying to me than slamming the ghosts into the ground. Not sure why they thought slamming the ghosts around would be more fun than just sucking them up...

@Dragonslacker1 It's worth it. Hyper Light Drifter is amazing. The map does get pretty confusing on the Eastern zone though (my least favorite of the areas in the game). My favorites are the Western woods with it's neon blue and pink color pallette and the Southern desert which is essentially a bunch of smaller dungeons each with their own bosses.
HA, I was JUST looking around to see if a date had been confirmed for this. I love playing this game with the ghillie suit, and I absolutely love big wide open outdoor maps in shooters. Day 1. I'm looking forward to gyro controls too, as they work beautifully in the other Sniper Elite games.
@ritouf Really depends on you. Do you like shooters? Do you prefer fast paced Doom style shooters, or slower paced, strategic shooters (which is what this is). This is also kind of a stealth game and sort of feels a bit like a World War II style Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid (without the wacky story of MGS obviously). The difficulty of the game is also extremely customizable. You can go for a simple, fun difficulty with no bullet ballistics and plenty of tactical assistance, or you can go for a full on simulation difficulty with no HUD, no assistance of any kind, etc. You can also adjust the difficulty of things separately so you could say, have high difficulty enemies but full tactical assistance and moderate bullet ballistics. The game gives you a ton of freedom for how you like to play. It is primarily a thinking person's shooter though so it's not the best idea to rush into fights all guns blazing.
Also I believe MSRP is $40 rather than $60 so that helps a bit.
I always download the update, check out the new stage, beat up the new fighter with my boy Ike and then go into waiting mode for the next character, haha.
@TexanSansei I wish we'd get some Mario and Luigi games for Switch, but I wonder if the series will even continue without Alpha Dream. I'd be fine with ports of the Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story remakes honestly, though the latter would take some reworking to not need touch screen controls.
@TexanSansei How is Origami King? I'm replaying all the Mario platformers and RPGs for my marathon I'm doing, and I'm on Sticker Star right now. It's always fun looking back at old reviews and the comments on them. This is my second time playing Sticker Star, but I've never played through Color Splash and Origami King.
Last weekend I got the minimum 70 stars to beat Galaxy 2. I wanted to leave the majority of the game fresh for a possible Switch version. I then 100%ed 3D Land as both brothers (that last level without using a Tanooki suit was really hard). I had a ridiculous amount of fun with 3D Land. Here's hoping it's in maybe a volume 2 of 3D All-Stars. I then spent half of this week 100%ing New Super Mario Bros 2. Now I'm on Sticker Star, and...I don't hate it...but my enjoyment of it varies. There are times when I have fun exploring and solving puzzles and other times where I just feel like the game is incredibly padded out. It's also weird to me how different the design philosophies were between this and say Dream Team which came out half a year later. Dream Team annoys me by explaining too much while Sticker Star often annoys me by explaining too little. I do find the sticker collection aspect to be oddly addicting though. I also really enjoy finding all the random real world objects scattered around the game and seeing what they do in battle as stickers.

I have Everspace, Manticore, and Starlink, but the problem I have with all of them is inherent to how space combat usually works in video games. For me, being able to come to a complete stop and also having what seems like slower movement speed isn't nearly as satisfying as jet fighter games where I move fast, am forced to keep moving forward, and have to use aerial maneuvers to reposition myself to get a kill. I want to actually complete the games, but I find it hard to stay focused when playing them as a result.
I have Sky Rogue but haven't played much of it. I'd like to sometime when I'm done playing all the Mario games I've been working through. It'd be awesome if Switch got some Ace Combat games.
Personally I'm all for this, especially if it would mean continuing backwards compatibility. The Switch has some of my favorite games ever on it, and it'd be a bit frustrating to not have access to them on the Switch's successor. I think they've found the perfect hardware model and just need to focus their innovation on the games.
Man, these characters seem to keep getting more and more complex with each new addition. There are exceptions like Banjo, but it seems Sakurai's team is intent on pushing the envelope for more and more complex fighters. This looks like the most complicated one by far.
Frankly, as I've never been a big Minecraft fan, I'm more excited to see what's next after this!
Last weekend I knocked out Bowser's Inside Story, and then I 100%ed New Super Mario Bros. Wii over the course of the following week. That puts me at Super Mario Galaxy 2 now, my most anticipated game to replay for this entire marathon. However, after picking it up, I can undoubtedly say that the controls in the Switch version of Mario Galaxy 1 have spoiled me. I'm having a tough time going back to waggle and sensor bar pointer controls. So as a result, I'm only going for the 70 stars needed to beat the game and see the credits, and then I'm moving onto Super Mario 3D Land. I'm sure Galaxy 2 is coming to Switch at some point, and since I haven't replayed Galaxy 2 in about 10 years, I would rather keep the majority of the game fresh for myself for when it does. I also don't want to repeat a Mario Galaxy 1 situation where I 100%ed that game on Wii about 3 months before it was announced on Switch.

Aside from the fact that I'd like to see Geno since he's one of the hugely requested ones alongside characters like Banjo, there's not really anyone in particular I want so I'm just interested to see who it is.
I wish this were coming a bit sooner! I'm gonna have to skip playing the Wii U game for my marathon because I don't want to spoil the freshness of it like I did with Galaxy on the Wii earlier this year before we knew 3D All-Stars was a thing.
I just finished Super Mario Galaxy on Switch with all 242 stars. I'm moving on to Bowser's Inside Story now, which I'm super excited about as I haven't played through the game again since it came out back in 2009! This is my second most anticipated game to replay in my marathon. My #1 most anticipated is Super Mario Galaxy 2.

@Veggies @fafonio Other M is great for me too. I love blasting through that game while just skipping the cutscenes. I don't mind the linearity. Fusion was pretty linear as well, and I enjoyed that one. I know it's unlikely, but I would love a Switch emulation of it like with 3D All-Stars. I think being able to press a button to go into 1st person view and use the joycon or pro controller gyro for aiming would be great.
@Snatcher I'd say try to play 1 - 3 some way if you can to get a feel for the series. Plus it's a shame to miss out on them because they're all really good.
@Prizm I'll echo @MimoDX2 here and say definitely give Prime another go, and then I'll say give Prime 2 Echoes a shot. It's a really challenging Metroid with how complex the backtracking and world traversal can be, so if you like a challenge, it has it. It's probably the hardest Metroid game aside from the NES original which I've never been able to get a handle on because everything looks the same to me, and I just get lost...
@secondshot I played 64 a few weeks ago and had to force myself to 100% it. I was on Wii U with save states so that helped at least. It's a good game at its core, but there's just something...inherently unenjoyable about it to me. Could be the broken camera...
I think my personal ranking would be like so (though it somewhat contradicts my rankings for 64 and 64 DS that I did for this poll):
8. 64 DS
7. 64
6. Sunshine
5. Odyssey
4. 3D Land
3. 3D World
2. Galaxy
1. Galaxy 2
Even the lower ranked games are still top drawer quality, and I would play them in a heartbeat over 90% of everything else out there. Here's hoping 3D Land, Galaxy 2, and (unlikely as it may be) 64 DS make it to the Switch.
I just finished up Super Paper Mario yesterday, and moved onto Super Mario Galaxy. 3D All-Stars came along at the perfect time for me. Here's to hoping we get Galaxy 2 at some point also.
While I had originally planned to play the Mario vs. Donkey games beyond the first one on GBA, I've found that the style of the sequels just doesn't really interest me. So I skipped Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 and will most likely skip all the others as well.

@NintendoPok Oh? Maybe collecting limited time Nintendo memorabilia brings me joy. Did you ever think of that? Nintendo has already said this game will be available till April so people have till then to purchase it. I just checked Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Amazon, and the only one of those where this game isn't currently available for 59.99 was Walmart.
Besides, if someone isn't a collector and just wants to play the game, guess what they can do. Download it.

The real Battle Royale is the one between all of Nintendo's franchises. F-Zero lost first.
In seriousness though I wouldn't mind a Metroid 35, but I'd prefer it be based on Super Metroid.

Re: Sniper Elite 4 Takes Aim At A November Release Date On Switch
@SDSU619 V2 and 3 included all DLC and updates I'm pretty sure so I think it's safe to assume this will also.
Re: Sniper Elite 4 Takes Aim At A November Release Date On Switch
@Joker13z No problem! Happy Nazi testicle hunting.
Re: Sniper Elite 4 Takes Aim At A November Release Date On Switch
@Joker13z I pre-ordered physically from Best Buy about two days ago.

So 3020?
Re: Nintendo Delays Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament Due To Version 9.0.0 Technical Issues
@JHDK Then you get on Smash and all the characters on the roster screen are suddenly wearing masks.
Re: Axiom Verge 2 Has Been Delayed Until The First Half Of Next Year
@Dragonslacker1 It's worth it.
Re: Sniper Elite 4 Takes Aim At A November Release Date On Switch
Re: Axiom Verge 2 Has Been Delayed Until The First Half Of Next Year
@PuppyToucher Hyper Light Drifter. On that note, I wonder when we'll hear about Solar Ash Kingdom again. I hope it'll be as good.
Edit: Apparently it's just called Solar Ash now.
Re: Minecraft's Steve And Alex Join The Smash Bros. Ultimate Roster Today
I always download the update, check out the new stage, beat up the new fighter with my boy Ike and then go into waiting mode for the next character, haha.
Re: Axiom Verge 2 Has Been Delayed Until The First Half Of Next Year
@0blivion I listen to the soundtrack a lot too. Favorite themes are the main theme, Amnesia, and Without Place.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 9.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@TrainerX493 Thanks for that. No more changes to my boy Ike...good.
Re: Axiom Verge 2 Has Been Delayed Until The First Half Of Next Year
Axiom Verge is my second favorite indie game. I don't mind waiting at all. Plus I got plenty else to play. Take your time. Get it right.
Re: Review: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
@TexanSansei I wish we'd get some Mario and Luigi games for Switch, but I wonder if the series will even continue without Alpha Dream. I'd be fine with ports of the Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story remakes honestly, though the latter would take some reworking to not need touch screen controls.
Re: Review: Hyper Light Drifter: Special Edition (Switch eShop)
Had to come back here just to say this is my favorite indie game of all time and definitely one of my favorite games ever. Perfect 10/10 from me.
Re: Review: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
@TexanSansei How is Origami King? I'm replaying all the Mario platformers and RPGs for my marathon I'm doing, and I'm on Sticker Star right now. It's always fun looking back at old reviews and the comments on them. This is my second time playing Sticker Star, but I've never played through Color Splash and Origami King.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 10th)

Gonna start my new studio, Paul Beenis Games. Run of course by Paul Creenis.
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Flight Sim And Space Combat Games
Re: John Wick Hex Brings Fast-Paced Strategy To Switch This December
@pip_muzz I'm glad to hear it because I LOVE the movies, and I've been wanting this game on Switch. Sounds like I'm gonna have to pick this up.
@Lindhardt YOU'RE BREATHTAKING.
Re: Switch Can Break The Traditional Hardware Cycle And Become Nintendo's iPhone, Says Analyst
Personally I'm all for this, especially if it would mean continuing backwards compatibility. The Switch has some of my favorite games ever on it, and it'd be a bit frustrating to not have access to them on the Switch's successor. I think they've found the perfect hardware model and just need to focus their innovation on the games.
Re: Minecraft's Steve And Alex Are Coming To Smash Bros. Ultimate On October 13th
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 3rd)

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter To Be Revealed Tomorrow, 1st October
Aside from the fact that I'd like to see Geno since he's one of the hugely requested ones alongside characters like Banjo, there's not really anyone in particular I want so I'm just interested to see who it is.
Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Rated For The Nintendo Switch
I wish this were coming a bit sooner! I'm gonna have to skip playing the Wii U game for my marathon because I don't want to spoil the freshness of it like I did with Galaxy on the Wii earlier this year before we knew 3D All-Stars was a thing.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 26th)
@Tyranexx Definitely give the other M&L games a try. Especially Bowser's Inside Story!
@Diddy64 I put somewhere in the neighborhood of 740 hours into Fire Emblem Awakening...
Re: Poll: It's Been One Year Since Mario Kart Tour Was Released, Are You Still Playing It?
I only play it with my brother online. It's the only Nintendo game we can play online together because he's too cheap to buy a Switch...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 26th)

Re: God Of War Dev Joins Retro Studios As Environment Designer For Metroid Prime 4
Re: Random: Switch Owners Are Discovering Just How Frustrating Super Mario Sunshine Can Be
@secondshot I played 64 a few weeks ago and had to force myself to 100% it. I was on Wii U with save states so that helped at least. It's a good game at its core, but there's just something...inherently unenjoyable about it to me. Could be the broken camera...
Re: Microsoft Has Just Bought Bethesda, Giving It Doom, Fallout, Elder Scrolls And Wolfenstein
Wow, unexpected, but I hope this turns out to be a positive thing. So Microsoft now owns Doom and Wolfenstein...I did Nazi that coming.
Re: Feature: Every 3D Super Mario Game Ranked
I think my personal ranking would be like so (though it somewhat contradicts my rankings for 64 and 64 DS that I did for this poll):
8. 64 DS
7. 64
6. Sunshine
5. Odyssey
4. 3D Land
3. 3D World
2. Galaxy
1. Galaxy 2
Even the lower ranked games are still top drawer quality, and I would play them in a heartbeat over 90% of everything else out there. Here's hoping 3D Land, Galaxy 2, and (unlikely as it may be) 64 DS make it to the Switch.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 19th)

Re: Random: Super Mario 3D All-Stars' Cartridge Is Rubbing People Up The Wrong Way
@NintendoPok Oh? Maybe collecting limited time Nintendo memorabilia brings me joy. Did you ever think of that? Nintendo has already said this game will be available till April so people have till then to purchase it. I just checked Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Amazon, and the only one of those where this game isn't currently available for 59.99 was Walmart.
Besides, if someone isn't a collector and just wants to play the game, guess what they can do. Download it.
Re: How Well Do You Know Your Indie Games?
I remember And Yet It Moves! I played a demo of it once. Very unusual game...
Also, MUTANT MUDDS! I want another one of those so much.

@NintendoPok Collector's item? They did say it's limited.
