We've finally reached the end of a week which has brought us a brand new Super Smash Bros. character, a brand new Animal Crossing update, and some understandably upset Pokémon GO fans, but now it's time for us to sit back, relax, and chat about our weekend gaming plans.
Members of Nintendo Life have done just that below, and we'd love for you to join in via our poll and comment sections. Enjoy!

Help. The one thing stopping me from playing too much Super Mario Bros. 35 is work... and now it’s the weekend. If my family ask, tell them I’m ok and if March asks, tell it I’m not home. Can we just skip that month? I won’t be a happy boy when this thing gets delisted!
Other than going through an existential crisis over Mario, I’m planning to revisit my Animal Crossing town! I’ve left the poor folks abandoned for a little over a month and I’m a little worried about the number of weeds I’ll need to pluck. I’m sorry Isabelle.

I managed to come first place in Super Mario Bros. 35 in my first evening playing it. Obviously, the game has nothing else to offer now, so I’ll probably go back to Rogue Legacy. I’ll also be growing pumpkins in Animal Crossing, although I don’t really care about all the Halloween swag – I’m more excited about completing my Critterpedia. I’m getting close, and now I’ve paid off my house I’m enjoying the quiet life just pottering around, fishing and breeding flowers. Good game.

I'm now about 60 stars into Super Mario Galaxy as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars release and I'm really enjoying my time with it. Super Mario Sunshine will always tickle my nostalgia bone the most, but even I can't deny that Galaxy is a much more polished experience throughout – and the HD shine is glorious, too.
I've also been enjoying the odd round of Super Mario Bros. 35 – I actually shared a guide with tips for getting that elusive win if anyone's interested. I prefer this over Tetris 99, simply because I feel like I'm actually decent enough at Mario platforming to stand a chance; other players can still be monsters, but I tend to hold my own pretty well and getting to the last five-or-so players is a fun time. Have a good one!

Time to go back to live streams with Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions' final route: Toho Academy. Still trying to escape Elysium in Hades between bounty hunting missions in Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw. My rusty NES platforming skills will be tested this weekend with intense rounds of Super Mario Bros. 35, while Alwa’s Legacy remains an alluring proposition.
My game of the week is Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in The Hotel Lisbon. This game is quite special since it takes place in my home town and was made by local friends. Despite the late conversion, this is my first time experiencing it. Pure late '80s / early '90s bliss.

This weekend will be a bit of a grab bag for me, getting into the spoopy season. I plan to kick around in all of the creppy-themed levels of every game I have - as well as games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Luigi’s Mansion 3, which are just automatically Halloween-themed. I might do some Korok hunting in the Akkala region, finish up Autumn Mountain in Paper Mario: The Origami King, head back to Lavender Town in Let’s Go: Pikachu, replay Big Boo’s Haunt in Super Mario 64, and I’m sure a few others thrown in the mix. Happy Halloween season!
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave a vote in the poll above and a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

Mario galaxy on wii and some pes 2021.
Zelda Breath of the Wild and Fire Emblem Awakening this week. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announcement probably made me play BotW again XD
Had a wretched week at work. Time to heal with a gaming feast! Ys Origins, Mario 35, and Mario 3D All Stars! Can't wait! Have a lovely weekend, guys, and stay safe out there.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars... specifically, Super Mario 64! I have 73 stars and facing Bowser but I cannot beat him!! Any tips, please?! Also Super Mario 35, crazy fun and very addictive!
I happened to find Paper Mario Origami King sold used at a bit more tolerable price for me to take the plunge, and it turns out that the game was a lot better than I was expecting. The mook battles are lame and pointless but everything else including exploration, world design, music, dialogue and the boss battles is excellent. It really feels like they put an honest to god effort into this one which to me was shocking, I went in not expecting much at all and I ended up finding something truly fun and memorable.
Transistor (sublime with headphones) and Mario 35, when I get the switch to myself.
I've been playing City Skylines, as I've got a good handle on its mechanisms. Bought myself an Acer gaming laptop last Monday. The advanced sim strategy games are beckoning...
This weekend I'll stick to Minecraft and Kirby Fighters 2 and Star Allies.
Another Xbox focused weekend, will play some Smash if Steve is a shadow drop after the presentation today though.
Yesterday I beat Alwa's Awakening. I picked it up during the current sale due to NLs recent review of the sequel. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed the 11 hours over 3 days it took me to playthrough.
Tomorrow either continue my progress in Super Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade Chronicles, or Persona 4 Golden. And maybe some SMB35 in between.
Playing...
Tokyo mirage session FE encore
Will keep me ticking until shin megami tensei 5 arrives next year.
It will be great to have persona 5 on the switch line ups.
Since my JoyCons are off for their seemingly annual Druft Repair, this week I will be mostly playing
Solomon’s Key (Wii U)
Pokémon White & Black
@AmplifyMJ Keep throwing him until he gets launch to the bomb's. Apart from that, try to memorize the timing of the spin and the throw until you get an idea of when to release the throw.
Hades and maybe some Pokemon Sword
Super Mario Galaxy HD on Switch handheld and Super Mario 35. Hades.
Youngest is playing Cybersleuth and Nexomon. Possibly FF Maxima (though he is finding it boring)
A pity Ori 2 is not in the list. It's one of the best games that have come to Switch this year, even though it still needs a patch for those few crashes.
Recommended to everyone here. It's a brilliant adventure game, I'm enjoying every bit of it.
Super Mario 35 and skyrim mainly
Super Mario galaxy on the switch mainly.
Just picked it up yesterday.
Using the pro controller seems to control very well.
Finished the story for Super Mario Galaxy last night. Absolutely amazing game. One of my favourite platformers ever now. Might get some of the extra stars before I decide another game.
Persona 4 golden (PSVITA) and super mario party
1. DooM (2016) PS4.
2. Diablo 3 (Switch)
Started playing through Aokana a couple of days ago and still playing a lot of Hades in between.
I'm about halfway through Paper Mario on Switch now so I'll be carrying on with that alongside some Animal Crossing.
On the Ps4 I'll be busy with Mad Max,13 Sentinels and Tokyo Xanadu Ex.
The game that will have most of my attention this weekend is Hades. My time with it has been super addictive. Last night I was SO CLOSE to escaping. I had Hades down to a tenth of his life bar, but I bit the dust because my punching attacks were so close range that I couldn't stay out of his spin attacks and shockwaves enough.
I'm also in the middle of playing Untitled Goose Game with my wife. It's pretty fun, but not as mindblowing as people made it out to be. I am glad for the multiplayer update so we can bounce puzzle solving ideas off of each other.
Dawnkey Kawng Kuuntry Tewww
This week has seen me add LCU The Chase Begins and Zombie Panic in Wonderland to active backlog rotation, but the regular doses of Bioshock 2/Xenoblades/Burnout and the Yoshi's Island playthrough won't simply just agree to leave it either. I'm still guilty as charged of increased activity (I mean, beyond logins and nightwaves) in Warframe - The Second Dream and The War Within quests have really cemented it as one of the most impressive Switch games in my book, and I expect some more delicious lore from the recent Heart of Deimos quest I just started.
What else? Certainly hoping to advance one of my VNventure playthroughs (be it as Phoenix, Hershel, Sigma or all three), also in the mood to advance the NFS Rivals playthrough (to nurture my hope that Payback, just announced to hit PS+ next week, will prove to share this game's Vita-friendly controls), and may be also in the mood to fool around in the vicinity of Witcher 3's White Orchard a bit more (to "celebrate" finishing Chapter 1 in the first game in a way). I sure plan to drop by SMB35 here and there, but chances are it will eventually become another game I'll mostly visit at the rate of potential theme/icon events like Tetris 99 (yeah, online multiplayer is really not a high priority for me). And besides the bunch of freemiums, I've managed to add Stay as one discounted game to my Switch lib this month, but haven't downloaded it yet - the promised IRL clock mechanic (akin to Animal Crossing etc) is reportedly central to all playthroughs and sounds like it will take dedicated and carefully planned sessions - something my whimsical gaming mood roulette requires extra effort towards. But I look forward to experiencing it eventually - Worse Than Death from the same developer left me legitimately impressed.
Mario 64 and i've ordered Dragon Quest XI and Mario Kart DS.
They should arrive today.
Aaand my Cables from Retrogamingcables arrived, so i can use my N64 properly on the HD-Television and will start my Halloween Month with Castlevania 64
This weekend I will be playing the following games :
Going Under : beginning the last dungeon today, and will probably replay it again, it’s fantastic!
Hades: Can’t stop playing with this game it’s so addictive.
Slay the spire : picking this up again!
Its so refreshing take on the genre.
Smb35 addictive can’t stop won’t stop.
I’m Feeling crap so plan on curling up on the sofa playing Hades on switch and ghost of Tsushima on PS4 - both great in different ways
Totally agree about Paper Mario. Everything about the game is great except the combat which becomes boring quickly. A JRPG would normally have EXP or loot as a reward and just having coins is not the same. Continuing with epic TLOU2. Be very surprised if any future release beats it to GOTY.
Super Mario Bros. 35!!! i love it and SSBU
and Crash Bandicoot 4 on ps4
Mario 35
Streets of rage 4
Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon on Switch. Half-Minute Hero and Tactics Ogre on the PSP.
Been trying to finish God Eater 3 so I can go back to Mario Sunshine. I started playing Genshin Impact on PC, and tried it on Smartphone as well. I don’t care what people say, but I like the “anime Breath of the Wild” clone.
Mostly Mario 64. Once I complete it with 70 stars I'll move on to Mario Sunshine. I'm not sure if I'll bother to get all 120 to get the second ending. Maybe I'll go back to it at some point and do that...
I never got all 120 on my N64 back in the day but I suppose it might be easier with YouTube guides now.
I'm still playing 3D Allstars. I've got about 75 stars/shines in each game. I'll be playing each one until 100% completed. I'm also playing a little Mario 35. It's been a great little addition to NSO, so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.
I'll also play some Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark on my N64.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I finished the story in Ring Fit Adventure yesterday in a double length workout session, powering through the last world all the way through the final showdown with Dragaux. Definitely feeling it today, but it was worth it. Great game, which I intend to continue.
Today I'm probably going to skip the workout, let my aching muscles rest and go back to Super Mario Sunshine. I've also restarted Fire Emblem Three Houses, with the Golden Deer this time, just to see how different it will be.
If I get any time to myself... Star Wars Squadrons in VR and maybe Dusk.
@JasmineDragon Congratulations! Ring Fit seems like a game I might like, especially because I already do different types of exercise. How many total hours do you have in the game and how strong do you recommend the game?
Animal Crossing New Horizons, hello K.K.!
Lonely Mountains Downhill: excellent mountain bike sim.
Rocket League. (so far I am happy with the changes)
Happy gaming everyone!
Just bought a switch and I've been given smash Bros, animal crossings, Witcher and breath of wild as presents ,any advice where to start
Last weekend I knocked out Bowser's Inside Story, and then I 100%ed New Super Mario Bros. Wii over the course of the following week. That puts me at Super Mario Galaxy 2 now, my most anticipated game to replay for this entire marathon. However, after picking it up, I can undoubtedly say that the controls in the Switch version of Mario Galaxy 1 have spoiled me. I'm having a tough time going back to waggle and sensor bar pointer controls. So as a result, I'm only going for the 70 stars needed to beat the game and see the credits, and then I'm moving onto Super Mario 3D Land. I'm sure Galaxy 2 is coming to Switch at some point, and since I haven't replayed Galaxy 2 in about 10 years, I would rather keep the majority of the game fresh for myself for when it does. I also don't want to repeat a Mario Galaxy 1 situation where I 100%ed that game on Wii about 3 months before it was announced on Switch.
Bold titles were skipped or are going to be skipped

After nearly 80 hours, I think I’m close to the end of Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. Heading for a final confrontation with (needle slips on vinyl record noise). After that, I’ll probably head to YouTube to check out the alternative endings, as I don’t think I have it in me to replay it. Great game, though, and I’m now pretty hyped for Nocturne and SMT V on Switch.
I'm currently trying to get past the 3rd boss in Hades. I'm also playing Among Us with friends on PC.
Edit: Finally got past the 3rd boss and managed to beat the game from there on. What a great game. Time to escape with a different weapon!
@dugan I strongly recommend it for any gamer who's interested in fitness and hates going to the gym. It's a good workout tool and surprisingly solid as an adventure game.
I'm at 75 hours according to the Switch clock. At this point I've done the story and about 60-70% of the side quests and challenges. I plan to go back and finish those if I can (some of the minigames are annoying and very hard to get the high scores on). And then there are new worlds on a higher difficulty to play.
I've always been fairly fit thanks to my job, and I try to work out on my own because I'm a bit older and need to keep my body in shape, but I've always had trouble staying commited to working out. RFA has kept me interested and makes me want to work out, instead of it being a chore that I have to do. Time will tell if it keeps on holding my attention now that I've finished the story, but I've definitely gotten my money's worth already.
Super Mario 35
Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild
Super Mario 3D All Stars
I finished Sunshine last weekend and don't plan on looking back. Sure it had that Mario charm of fun but holy crap did it take a lot out of me to finish. Moved onto Super Mario Galaxy and boy is that a refreshing blast to play! Love the orchestra soundtrack, too!
As I always say once the beers start to flow usually it's Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and maybe Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That last mountain in Lonely Mountains Downhill is killing me whether sober or boozed so that's slowly leaving the rotation.
Mostly Super Mario 3D Allstars and I’ll give Super Mario 35 a go. Other than that, I’ll maybe keep working on my backlog. I also started playing Pokémon Red again the other day so I might play some more of that.
I just beat Galaxy yesterday. I was going to start Origami King, but scamazon screwed up my order as per usual. So I’ll be playing Mario 64 until that arrives next week.
Star Wars: Squadrons.
Super Mario Bros 35 has me hooked right now. Hopefully getting some spooky stuff in Animal Crossing and still playing Sunshine.
As for this weekend, I think I'll take a break from Nintendo's resident plumber, after the last three or four weekends in a row, I need some time away from Mario. Having said that, I'm looking to finish off Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (currently on Gloomy Gulch), as well as starting up Operation Logic Bomb.
Also #RaceDieRun, cause it's pretty addictive.
Lots of mario galaxy and alwas legacy which im on the final boss but just can't beat him. Tough stuff but I love the game
Super Mario 35, it’s loads of fun if you’re good at platformers. Mario 3D All-Stars, Madden 21 (Xbox One, got it used for $25) and Just Cause 3 on Steam.
Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Streets of Rage 4, and Saints Row the 3rd.
Think it’s going to be an all retro weekend.
Lego Batman (Wii)
Wario Land II (Super Game Boy)
Final Fantasy VII (Switch)
Glover (N64)
Vs. Excitebike (Switch)
Super Tilt Bro (NES)
Pokemon Picross (GBC)
Mario Kart Prototype (SNES)
Sonic: Back 2 the Future (SEGA)
Streets of Rage 2: Final Fight (SEGA)
Retro City Rampage DX (Wiiware)
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
It's absolutely incredible!
Mario 3D All Stars (got it for my birthday today, woo!) and a little bit of Smash.
Haven’t decided how to play 3D All Stars, on one hand I want to play them chronologically, but also can’t wait to play Galaxy.
Hah, figures. All these 3D Mario games in the poll, and yet not one of them is what I'm playing. I'm continuing my globetrotting in Super Mario Odyssey and turned over quite a bit of the Wood Kingdom in my last session. I might poke around for a couple of moons yet, then move on.
I'm also still happily jumping and hammering my way through M&L: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions on 3DS. This is probably the first game I've played where I've had to fight a barrel of cola! Onto Woohoo Hooniversity next! (I don't name these places....)
A little bit of Pokemon Go this weekend as well. I should be able to do my weekend walk despite cool temps and rain...right?
Have an awesome weekend!
@Glitchling78 Happy birthday, indeed!
Dragon Quest 8, it’s so comforting, like a warm blanket. I’m not sure the game ever ends though!
Some Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 35 with the kids too. I might be able to squeeze in a few runs of Hades.
@Tyranexx I did my Odyssey replay right before 3D All Stars came out, ha.
Rocket League 3V3 casual & Dropshot. And a bit of Splatoon 2 turf war.
@Krambo42 I decided to wait a little while before grabbing 3D All-Stars as I've played 2/3 of the games on offer and would really just be getting it for Sunshine. I decided I'd tackle the backlogged Super Mario Odyssey instead since many seem to love it. Definitely enjoying my time with it so far!
I’ve gone back to Breath of the Wild and am about 6 hours into my second playthrough since it first launched. Other than that, I’m playing the odd round of Hades and Dead Cells. Great times all round.
YS Origing for me!!!! The game is epic!!!
Mario 3D All Stars, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Hades, Spiritfarer and just finished A Short Hike, a short game worth the $7. Have a great weekend.
The Messenger for me
With a but of AC and MK8 mixed in
More AC:NH, as well as Super Mario Bros. 35. Almost done with getting 120 stars in Super Mario Galaxy (via 3D All-Stars) so I'll be playing that too. SMG is still awesome after all these years.
@andywinter you're off to a good start with that bunch. Welcome aboard. I'd recommend Golf Story and West Of Loathing. I've had great fun with those.
I'm going to be playing Yoku's Island Express. I bought it ages ago, and now it's next up.
@sketchturner i completed it last week and seriously, i want more. Great game.
i'm currently playing Super Mario Brothers. 35, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kirby Fighters 2, and maybe Fall Guys.
My son and I are feeling pretty crappy this weekend, so it might be just the perfect time for big RPGs.
Playing Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. About 30 hours in, and I just love this game. As with any Atlus RPG, I am just amazed at how great it all is.
After this, I am continuing on with SMT: Strange Journey Redux.
And then.... I will finally get to play SMT IV: Apocalypse. I can't wait!!
Forza Horizon 3 (Xbox One) Going to be continuing racing across Australia. I am having alot of fun with this game.
Mafia II (Xbox One). I finished Mafia Definitive Edition the other day and I am still in the mood for Mafia so it's only fitting I continue on with Mafia II.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 (Xbox One). My teenage self is still enjoying this game hoping to clear out a few more levels this weekend.
Super Mario 3D All Stars has got me busy recently. This is my first time playing Super Mario Sunshine. It may have some flaws, but I’m enjoying my time with Sunshine. And it’s nice to revisit Super Mario Galaxy again.
I’ll also be busy collecting the Alien Plushies in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, so I can unlock the Alien character.
And maybe some Rocket League with friends.
I would be playing Pokemon sw/sh if my switch gets delivered back to me before this weekend ends.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars fliping between Galaxy and Mario Sunshine.... Also some Gears 5 multiplayer...
Just picked up Splatoon 2 and I think i'm addicted.
Help
Super Mario Bros. 35 wasn't intended, but it's a delightful distraction. Glad it's something I actually can win at for once lol. Hopefully we'll get some tourneys for gold coins out of it before it's gone.
Other than that I'll go back to Anodyne. Whenever I beat that I'll prolly go back to Framed Collection and Hotline Miami Collection (both the part 2's of the collections).
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Starting a 100% playthrough today, so just starting out in Kokiri Forest.
The Gunstringer: Dead Man Running (W10) - A decent endless runner based on a character from a Xbox 360 Kinect game.
AlphaJax (Windows Phone) - Can't seem to get the offline workaround up and running to play yet.
@andywinter definitely start with Zelda. But Witcher is pretty meaty too.
@darkswabber just got p4g is it better than p3 because that's the only one I played (halfway no spoilers!!!)
Anyone else amazed with mario 35? So much fun! My only problem is I haven't played the first mario really in years and even still I'm at a around 70 percent win rate against people online step up your game lol
@ToadBrigade dude I'm halfway through superstar saga and started bowsers inside story and it's good to the point of I've abandoned superstar saga for the time being lol
@Ghostchip I haven’t played 3 yet but a few people I know that played the entire series, including my best friend, stand by P4G being the best in the series for being so wholesome and friendly that you can’t get a more wholesome experience anywhere else without it turning off puting.
I personally agree that 4 is wholesome. I’m currently doing new game + and planning on playing arena, arena ultimax and dancing right after. I’ve played dancing like 3 times already.
@darkswabber cool! It looks really good main reason I got a vita. Kinda pissed literally 2 days later they announced a steam release lol. 3 is pretty much the opposite of wholesome in its music and artstyle, but it's so good I'm playing p3p so p4g will be first REAL persona game (as p3p is persona 3 in a visual novel style due to tech constraints). Yeah p3p the characters literally shoot themselves to activate persona lol not wholesome. Although I really like the characters (some of my favorites:maya, maiko, junpei, that on guy on the kumdo team, and Kenji is humorous as he is a literal Moron.) Any super good social links in 4 I should go out of my way for? (without spoilers). Also threes music is soooooo good with 4 and 5s being just as good but 4 is super upbeat and 5s is chill and jazzy 3s is kind of dark and menacing but also charming in a weird way. Oh and if you want we can go to the chit chat forum
Titan Quest for me.
@ToadBrigade Will do! I picked up the 3DS re-release of Bowser's Inside Story (too lazy to type the full title) not too long ago. Looking forward to that one!
I'll be playing Disgaea 1 Complete and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, both of which got here in the mail yesterday! I'm super excited.
I’ve started playing Mario 64 via 3D Mario Allstars and it’s horrible.. Maybe because I’ve never played it and I don’t have the rosy glow of nostalgia to hold on to? The camera, the text, Mario’s movement - none of it’s working for me. I’m going to put a pause on it and try out Mario Sunshine for a bit.
I did try out Mario Bros 35 the other night and it was okay.. I didn’t get what I was actually supposed to be doing so I’ll be trying it out again lol.
Have a great weekend everyone!
dude mario 35 is boring its fun for 10 minutes. this will die over the weekend.
Played a lot of Rogue Company. This game runs absolutely fantastic on Switch. And then we played The Takeover couch coop. Was a nice Saturday. Good Night!
@Ghostchip put it down after 20 minutes super boring. not as addicting as tetris 99
Putting a break on 3D All-stars soon because it's October! My favorite horror month. I have an ongoing tradition of mainly playing horror games this month. I've been only playing Mario games for a while now, been having fun with the original classics on Nintendo online. Currently playing Sunshine and Galaxy, in a few days I'll be taking a break with Mario and focusing solely on horror games though. I've played most of the good horror games but replaying them never gets old. Any suggestions are welcome!
@ZeldaMario1984 I love tetris 99. I suck at tetris though but for this i am getting 1 consistently. That is why I like it more
Just destroying everyone in Mario 35 (32 wins so far). It feels like I've been training for this all my life.
Gonna be adding Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Monster World on PC, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate to my weekend list. I'm riding the Rise hype-train all the way to Diablos and beyond.
@kevin74 Nice!
@JasmineDragon Thanks for the info. It does sound like I would like the game. My next challenge is the price, especially since I have a gaming budget. Thanks again!
Breath of the Wild, going to 100% with those Koroks
