Re: Blaster Master Zero 3 Explodes Onto Switch This June

@Dm9982 I love me some GBA games, especially the Metroid ones. Give Odyssey another shot if you have the itch! It's a fantastic game. I'd almost bet money on Wind Waker and Twilight Princess coming what with this being the 35th anniversary of Zelda. Xenoblade X on Switch would be so awesome even if I'm not sure I'd play through it again. I remember so many wonderful school and summer nights just getting lost in that world doing side quests and listening to the music (which really grew on me). My brother liked falling asleep at night watching me play it too. It'd be a real shame if that game died with the Wii U.

I'm also really hoping Paper Mario Color Splash and Star Fox Zero make the jump somehow. I love both games a lot. Zero could really benefit from a reworked control scheme. Color Splash I've been playing with my brother when we're together, and we've both been having a blast with it.

I'm really glad I kept my Wii U because they seem to be getting expensive. Plus when I found that my Galaxy 2 disc was broken (crashes when you enter a level) I just had to go download the game for $20, saving me from having to buy a physical copy at likely a more expensive price.

Yep, Galaxy 2 is not really the kind of game you want to jump right into right after completing the first. There's so much content you need a break. Well unless you're a Mario fanatic like I am. You might have seen some of my weekend Mario Marathon posts on here between August and December...I played through almost all of those. It was a staggering amount of Mario, though I kind of regret quitting part way through Mario + Rabbids. The burnout was real. Though that could be just because it's an RPG. I still really wanted to replay Odyssey.

Re: Blaster Master Zero 3 Explodes Onto Switch This June

@Dm9982 I didn't appreciate Galaxy 2 enough when it first released...my brother and I thought it was disappointing and too similar to the first (he still does to this day). Now I replayed it for a Mario 35th anniversary marathon I was doing last year, and I just thought it was incredible. Easily the best Mario game ever in my opinion. I wanted to get all 242 stars so badly, but I figured it was due out on Switch at some point so I only got the minimum 70 needed to see the credits. I really hope it does come because Galaxy 1's little QOL improvements like being able to play on a regular controller with no motion controls and a gyro pointer that doesn't rely on an unobstructed sensor bar were just incredible. It made it really hard to go back to the way you have to play Galaxy 2.

Skyward Sword I absolutely get peoples' hate for, but I love it motion controls and all. I'm probably one of the few who actually really did enjoy the controls, and I'm so happy I can still use them on Switch or even undock it and just play with buttons and sticks.

@Dm9982 When I originally got Bravely Default, I never got more than I think about 30 minutes into it. And then a week later Smash Bros on 3DS came out. Woops.

So I guess my MO going forward is that if a game isn't something I know I really want to play and finish, don't bother with it. I know I'll miss out on a lot of great games, but it'll help me save some money at least. Right now, I only have a few games planned out for this whole year: Crash Bandicoot 4 on Switch next week, Star Wars Republic Commando in April, Subnautica + Subnautica Sub Zero in May, and then Skyward Sword HD in July. That's if Nintendo doesn't announce anything else at least. I'll be all over Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD if those come. Galaxy 2 also if that's still a possibility. I'd go absolutely nuts if we got Galaxy 2 on Switch.

Re: Blaster Master Zero 3 Explodes Onto Switch This June

@Dm9982 I initially was hesitant with Disjunction. I didn't think it looked great in motion, but I'm always saying how I want more stealth games on Switch so I put my money on it. What I really want is Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Ghost Recon Future Solider. My ultimate trio of stealth games.

And same here on the genre thing. I just simply can't enjoy most RPGs anymore. I used to have the time for them, but I don't really anymore, and the gameplay usually doesn't draw me in since I prefer something a bit more direct like a platformer or like Doom.

Re: Blaster Master Zero 3 Explodes Onto Switch This June

Giygas_95

@Dm9982 Until recently I pretty much bought any game that I found interesting, but I've realized how I end up buying way too many, yet when it comes to actually playing games, I find that I spend more and more time just looking at stuff on YouTube...and when I actually do play, it's always the tried and tested games that I know I enjoy. With those, I already know I enjoy them and don't have to put in any effort to get to the point where the game clicks with me. I always have to put in some effort up front with almost all new games before they actually click with me, but when they do, it's downhill from there. I've almost always enjoyed new games more after a few days than I do on release day.

I actually did get Disjunction too though. It was one of the last ones I got before deciding to just start ignoring all but the games that interest me the most.

Re: Blaster Master Zero 3 Explodes Onto Switch This June

Giygas_95

@Dm9982 I think I've given up hope on ever clearing mine out...it's why I don't typically buy new games anymore aside from the big ones that interest me the most like 3D World + Bowser's Fury or Crash 4 next week. I've been ignoring all the smaller games coming out for quite a while now.

Giygas_95

@dkxcalibur Another thought I just had: I don't know the specific reason you're trying to get away from the joycons, but if it's drift, I did use this repair kit to great effect. It's probably better to use the replacement sticks as opposed to opening up the stick assembly and cleaning it yourself because my drift issues started to come back on (admittedly rare) occasion after a couple of weeks. Getting the stick assembly open and put back together was pretty tough too.

Also, some good guide videos I used:

I actually find it kind of fun to get into my stuff and repair it myself, so you might consider it. Just another option, though I don't blame you if you just don't want to.

@dkxcalibur I love the split pad pro! It feels very comfortable, and the matte texture gives it a pretty nice grip. The biggest caveat is that it has no gyro and can't be used wirelessly. That's why I tag team it with my satisfye grip. The satisfye is for everything involving gyro controls (shooters, Bit Trip Beat and Bit Trip Flux) while the split pad is for everything else not involving gyro. The bigger sticks have more travel distance which make them great for better precision. I quite enjoy using them in say Mario 3D World for instance. I'd also look at some Amazon reviews and YouTube videos as well to get some other opinions. Also, there are some pretty good cases for the split pad pro:

Those are only for the split pad though. I personally went with this for holding both the satisfye and split pad in addition to a battery bank. It's a very big case, but they also have a slim variant without the space for the battery bank:

Re: Video: 14 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In March

Giygas_95

@nhSnork That would be cool, though it'd probably run like crap!

@Muh-ario I'm pretty sure it would be at least as long as Crash 3 if you're just going from start to credits, but full completion is said to take much, MUCH longer. Also it's $40 on Switch as opposed to $60 if that helps, though I'm not sure how that'll translate into Canadian pricing.

Edit: actually it would appear to be longer. How Long To Beat has Crash 1 - 3 listed as around 6 hours for the main story of each and around 11 - 14 hours for full completion. Crash 4 is listed as 10 hours for main story and 67 hours for full completion. So it seems to be a lot meatier.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 27th)

Giygas_95

Well...I've done almost everything possible in 3D World on Switch except beat Champion's Road with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad. It was actually pretty easy with Rosalina. Once I've finished it with all of them, I'll finally head into Bowser's Fury, which I really haven't even touched yet. Aside from that, I'll keep working on breeding a blue rose in Animal Crossing. I have a step by step guide for how to get a high chance of growing one. It just takes a good bit of time, but you can just do it one day at a time.

Also I'm in the mood for some BIT.TRIP BEAT and FLUX. The BIT.TRIP games are seriously addictive, especially those two I mentioned.

Might also even squeeze a few Smash Bros matches in here and there.

Re: Anniversary: Can You Believe It? The Nintendo 3DS Is Now 10 Years Old

Giygas_95

Got my original blue 3DS in the mail sometime after launch day and spent the entire day playing AR games. I was blown away. Since then upgraded to an XL and then a New XL which I even got a big ole Mugen battery for. I love the device so much it upsets me that glasses free 3D isn't really coming back, and these things are only gonna get harder to find and keep in good, working condition. Still, the 3DS was one heck of a train ride, and one I'm proud to have ridden.

Ya know what's really scary? Next year, the Wii U is ten years old. That one feels like it came out just a couple years ago.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 1.8.0 Is Now Available - Super Mario Items And More

Giygas_95

@rjejr I hadn't thought about that, but you're right... Nintendo logic. I would not be at all surprised if they only work across one level. Adding to that, I kind of doubt they'd work from inside your house to somewhere outside it, but I'd love to be wrong about that.

And I think I remember hearing or reading somewhere that when you have multiple warp pipes, your destination is random. So...not very useful if you're using more than two pipes it sounds like to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 20th)

Giygas_95

Last weekend I cleared out the vast majority of 3D World on Switch, getting all the green stars and stamps (except the ones on Champion's Road) and completing all the levels (again, except Champion's Road) with Peach, Toad, and Rosalina. I'm just starting the Bowser World now with Luigi and then I'll do one final pass through with Mario. Then I'll do Champion's Road with each character. Phew!

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th February (North America)

Giygas_95

Already downloaded Thomas Was Alone. I've heard so much about it I figured it's worth trying.

@JimmySpades Also because it means you aren't adding more to the backlog. I was kind of relieved after yesterday's direct when there wasn't much I wanted from it.

Re: Feature: Every 3D Super Mario Game Ranked

Giygas_95

@crudfish I know you made your comment ages ago, but I really agree. Going from Galaxy 1 + Pro Controller + gyro pointer to Galaxy 2 + Wiimote + Nunchuck + sensor bar pointer felt like a huge step back. I'm really hoping Galaxy 2 still comes to Switch because the Galaxy games play so much better on Switch in my opinion.
