@Serialsid I'm sure they would all run fine on Switch too. I mean Blacklist was on Wii U, and Nintendo consoles have had every main game except Conviction. I'd hope it would include both versions of Double Agent as well.
Whatever it's called, I'm just hoping it's a big enough upgrade that a lot of games can get performance patches. I'm thinking mostly of the Panic Button ports and Bowser's Fury. Bowser's Fury at 60 FPS in handheld would be nice. For games like Doom Eternal I'd just hope for higher resolution and more graphical detail. I'm not sure 60 FPS would be within reach for that game.
@Ulysses Good points, and yes, I do still think I'd like to go with DXM. I do also like the aesthetic differences you pointed out! I'm just waiting on a sale on DXM currently.
I'm with family this weekend so probably some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my brother. I'm getting him to help me win 3 stars on all the 200cc cups which is proving to be really difficult. Those courses just weren't made for that kind of speed even if you use your breaks a ton...
Now that I've played through a majority of Republic Commando, I'm watching my brother play through it. He said he always saw it in stores and wanted to play it but never had an Xbox so now he's finally getting to try it, and he seems to have liked it so far as he played through a decent chunk of Geonosis already.
Other than that, I'm probably playing some Doom, Doom Eternal, etc...
@Aurumonado Ah, thanks for making me aware of that! Beats buying an LRG copy of 3 when I never got the first two to begin with. I only recently decided to collect physical copies of my games in addition to getting digital copies to play for convenience.
@KingMike I did actually play and finish the first two on an NES emulator. Fast forward was a godsend for grinding. Maybe I can tolerate not having fast forward in the Switch ports though.
I just grabbed the older Switch ports on sale. I kind of hope the rest of the older Dragon Quest games (I - VI) get this treatment so I can experience them all like this. I was gonna play through this series at one point but wasn't sure which versions would be best because there's a lot to choose from (NES, Super Famicom, Game Boy Color, DS, mobile, etc).
@TheRedComet Let's hope it doesn't come to that. I've been stuck using the DS port of 3&K, and I've been too lazy to figure out how to get Sonic 3 Complete set up on my laptop (very, very lazy).
My brother and I had the atomic purple as kids. My friend has the Pokemon special edition which I never knew existed before he showed it to me. It's probably my favorite one, and I'm not even a Pokemon fan. Just a lovely little design.
I forgot to watch this, but I'm really happy! I've been wanting these games on Switch. Especially 3 & Knuckles. Did they say if it'll include the full Sonic 3 & Knuckles, or is it just going to be Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles? I'm also happy about CD, and I hope you can select between the two soundtracks.
@Nintendo4Sonic Do physical copies from all regions have English language support? If I get a physical copy I wouldn't want to get one that doesn't have English.
@Nintendo4Sonic Thanks for the info! I also pre-ordered digitally. I'd like to get a physical copy also since I usually like a digital copy for convenience and a physical one for collecting, but it seems like kind of a pain having to import it.
@Ryu_Niiyama I already had to archive all the Bioshock, Borderlands, and Resident Evil games plus Witcher 3. I'm not even playing any of them yet, so they were just taking up space.
I'm probably gonna sit it out for several months. You know these are gonna be almost impossible to get ahold of for a while following launch. Anyway, it'd be amazing if several games were patched to take advantage of the newer hardware. I'm thinking specifically of the Bethesda first person shooters, the Sniper Elite games, etc. I actually could see the Sniper Elite games getting patches. Rebellion seems very dedicated to making sure their games take advantage of the newest hardware.
@Mountain_Man Interesting point about the Lite. I would imagine a new model of Switch would have to include a full version and a Lite version. Having a standard Lite version and a more powerful full version on the market seems like it would make the Lite pretty unappealing to most people.
Ninja Gaiden looks like a lot of fun, but I've heard an awful lot of people complaining about the Sigma versions and how they're inferior. Anyone know any details besides the lack of blood? Personally I couldn't care less if it has blood or not.
@Ryu_Niiyama Either that or I've been saying it'd be great if a new Switch model had two micro SD slots.
I would love it if he got to go off and do his own thing making small games of his own. But if he plans on fully retiring from game development all together I understand fully.
@BloodNinja I really hope Nintendo does do something like an OS they can just keep updating kind of like Windows already does, and we can carry our game libraries forward to each new system. The fact that they've unified their home and handheld stuff into one console now that's probably not going to change what kind of media it plays anymore (I can't see them going back to discs) makes me hope maybe it'll be the case.
No problem. Take your time. Get it right. I love Axiom Verge, and its sequel deserves to be as well made.
By the way, if anyone wants a short but sweet little game like this, I suggest Gato Roboto. I played through it in two sittings the other night and following morning and then replayed it again that night because I had so much fun with it.
@Desrever Dang, I really want one of those collector's editions, but they're expensive. Really glad I grabbed a Hyper Light Drifter one when I did.
I've only played the first two games on NES. I actually really did enjoy them, especially the second one with its higher difficulty. The last area of the game was so tough every fight was like its own boss battle. Definitely really grindy which I don't usually enjoy, but somehow I did. I'm sure having a fast forward feature on an emulator helped though. I really want to get the Switch ports of 1 - 3, but I haven't heard very favorable things about them. I'd like to try all the games, but I usually can't muster the patience to play RPGs anymore. I will definitely try XI at some point though. It's so well liked I feel it'd be worth investing the time in.
I maybe should finish off my playthrough of Metroid Zero Mission that I started last weekend. I'm playing Republic Commando after the patch, and it's not perfect, but definitely way better.
I'm looking forward to Skyward Sword HD, but I'll happily deal with having to find a save point to return to the sky. Would I like this feature to be accessible? Yes, but not badly enough that I'm willing to buy the figurine. Maybe like @TuragaNuva said, it'll be accessible by any Zelda amiibo. Still, it'd be annoying not just being able to access the feature in-game without a figurine. Maybe if they let you scan the figurine once to unlock the feature permanently that'd be better. In any case, having to find a statue to return to the sky never bothered me too much.
@Classic603 @don-wario Samus Returns has the most fun combat in all of 2D Metroid in my opinion. The 360 degree aiming is perfect. I only hope if there's one on Switch at some point that they implement 360 aiming while on the move since we have two dedicated control sticks now.
For me...it was Doom Eternal. I have a very complicated relationship with that game. At first I was like "This is AWESOME." Then as I approached the end of the game I was getting fatigued with just the sheer number of demons that was getting thrown at me, with the real kicker being the tedious final boss. I started to realize I liked Doom 2016 much better. I didn't play it much more for almost a year until the Ancient Gods expansions came out (I was burnt out). Sometime in there I started getting really good at it, and now it's one of my favorite games bar none. I even want to build a gaming PC specifically to play that game.
Now I don't know if I can accurately give my top ten. I've played so many games I've loved, and I feel like an honest top ten would mostly be Metroid games. But I'm gonna try.
Screw it. Too difficult. Here's my top 20. I'm sure most of this order is inaccurate, though because with the exception of #1 you can really put it in any order you want, and I'd be happy.
20. Furi
19. Axiom Verge
18. Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience
17. Splinter Cell Blacklist
16. Ghost Recon Future Soldier
15. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
14. Super Mario Galaxy
13. Doom 2016
12. Doom Eternal (yeah, it's not in my top 5, but this is way too difficult)
11. Hollow Knight
10. Super Mario 3D Land
9. Metroid Zero Mission
8. AM2R
7. Metroid Samus Returns
6. Metroid Fusion
5. Metroid Prime 2
4. Metroid Prime
3. Hyper Light Drifter
2. Super Mario Galaxy 2
1. Super Metroid.
I think you can see what I meant about it mostly being Metroid.
@PBandSmelly @Decapre 2017 was a freaking legendary year for gaming.
@NickOfTime90 I was already a longtime Metroid fan by the time I played it (played every other game before it), and I loved it. I thought after all those years that it was so cool seeing Samus in a story heavy game with full dialogue. I mean I definitely see peoples' problems with the story now, but as a 15 year old in 2010, this stuff was awesome. I still enjoy the gameplay and several elements of the story.
It'll come, and it'll be amazing. I really feel like I should go and actually complete the first game, but the optional endgame bosses are absolutely brutal. For anyone who's actually completed everything in Hollow Knight, is it worth doing? I played all of the main game, but I wasn't skilled enough to beat that true final boss or many of the optional bosses...
Welp, at least I have the Famicom and Super Famicom apps on my Switch, but trying to play a game like this in a language I don't know is probably pointless. Either I'll play a fan translation or keep waiting for an English release or remake...
@Snatcher I really enjoyed fencing in Resort. It was basically that game's version of boxing with the obvious difference being you were making sword motions rather than punching motions.
@Snatcher Bowling for me. Resort had a 100 bowling pin mode that I absolutely loved playing. It was super satisfying knocking all those down at once. I'm not aware though, is this game going to support motion controls like swinging the wiimote but with a joycon instead? Be a bit of a missed opportunity if not.
@Snatcher Ever play Wii Sports Resort golf? I recall they also had frisbee golf in that one too. Me, I just played hours and hours of island flyover. 😂
My biggest video game problem is having more video games than I'll probably ever have time to play and complete. I guess that's a good problem to have.
I remember one time in 2006 when I was 11 when my Dad and I were just hanging out lying down on the floor in our living room. He got up for something and then came back. When I hugged him, I felt something crinkly under his shirt. He revealed it to be a plastic WalMart bag with a copy of New Super Mario Bros. I played it to completion, and he actually played it on quite a few occasions too. Just one of the memories that stands out to me from those days.
Anyway, I've often wished instead of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe that they had done New Super Mario All-Stars with all the New games in one package on Switch. Feels like a missed opportunity.
I probably won't be doing much this weekend...I just got my second Pfizer shot, and man was I feeling achy and uncomfortable last night. Still am, but not as badly. I'll be playing some Animal Crossing and Super Metroid (after having just played through Samus Returns recently). I don't really know what else just yet. Probably Metroid Fusion once I've finished with Super. Maybe then I'll play Zero Mission, and who knows...I might replay Prime after that.
But have y'all seen the night vision app that uses the joy con IR sensor and has about the same clarity and frame rate as a Game Boy Camera? Game of the year.
@ShadJV I did say unless I was forgetting anything, which I did forget a few apparently. Although the last non port Nintendo published game I was interested in was Origami King. So from my perspective it feels like it's been a long time.
@ShadJV Yes, the previous person reminded me of Snap. I don't really follow Pokemon and forgot about it. I count Age of Calamity since Nintendo at least published it.
