@SteveDaSteve Mastering is a process of optimising a track for the specific format it will be played on.
An album released on vinyl, cassette, CD, and streaming will need to be mastered separately for each format. This is because each format has different properties in regards to dynamic range, frequency response and typical playback equipment.
To be fair, Nintendo have probably already done all this work. But we both know how they like to drip feed content for attention.
@SteveDaSteve As someone with a background I sound engineering I can assure you it is not trivial. Tracks need to be individually mastered for each respective format. This is especially important for a music streaming service.
This is a huge deal. Nintendo have been extremely reluctant to license their music for vinyl pressing. The fact that this is happening at all is massive.
As a record collector, this pleases me greatly. I hope this release opens the possibility of more.
This is so dumb. When they said the accessory will be “required” I thought they must mean just for the 3D effect or something. But to lock it behind a subscription AND an accessory is basically mean no one except a few masochistic enthusiasts will ever bother with it.
News flash: major anniversaries mean nothing to game publishers. Only that they can leverage them as a marketing gimmick should a project just happen to be ready during that year.
Nintendo and others do not develop games specifically for an anniversary event.
I've just about 100%'d it. It's taken me about 200 hours according to my Switch. Unless they make another full on DLC pack, I think I've had my fill of this game.
The weird thing is, Call of Duty appeared on the GameCube, Wii, DS and Wii U. Switch, the massively successful console on the market when this deal was signed is the only Nintendo home console to not have CoD since the series began.
@skywake a Mario Paint sequel would be unsellable. The original was a novelty. Digital image manipulation wasn’t something the average person had ever encountered in the early 90s.
Things are different today.
It’ll be an NSO release if anything. Those nostalgic enough will be excited. Only to try it for 5 minutes and realise it’s totally pointless in 2025.
Y’know, as much as I love Metroid and am looking forward to Prime 4, I’d rather see Retro produce an original game than another Metroid or Donkey Kong.
That dev has some amazing talent. I wish Nintendo would let them get creative with it.
I can't believe after all the failures and flops of kickstarter projects over the years, people are still calling anything that passes its funding goal a "success story". At least wait until the game is out.
Game has been dying for 15 years now. They've shifted strategy, closed nearly all their stores, and now they apparently aren't even going to sell games.
Will someone just take this company behind the barn and put it out of its misery?
Is it confirmed for Switch? Because what I saw didn't look like it could run at 60fps on Switch. Not even close. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a Switch 2 only title.
A repro of a ROMhack that will absolutely be shutdown by Nintendo that is massively overpriced. They’re either really stupid or it’s a straight up scam. Perhaps both.
@RootsGenoa technically, there’s ten days of winter at the end of the year. As winter starts from the solstice on the 21st. So that gives them a pretty narrow release window.
I've been waiting for this. I played through Dragon Quest I & II via the Game Boy Color versions and was about to start the GBC version of DQIII when this was announced. So I decided to hold off and wait. That feels like a lifetime ago, lol.
Slight tangent: "Metroidvania" isn't a genre, it's a structure for game progress. Saying "this game is a Metroidvania" is like saying "this game is linear". It says nothing about the game mechanics or how it plays, only how progress is made.
Metroidvania can be thought of as the middle ground between linear and open world game structures. They start quite linear, but get more open as you make progress.
@jump yeah, I know these people exist. I was asking if there is enough of them to make this kind of promotion worthwhile. Obviously Sega thinks so, but I have doubts.
@Tenma220 originally, yes. They’ve been owned by Sony since the 80s. Besides which, Nippon means Japan. So they’re referring to the Japanese branch of the label.
3rd March, 2017. I got home from the shop with my brand new Nintendo Switch and copy of Breath of the Wild. I unboxed it, plugged it in, went through the mercifully brief set-up process and fired up Breath of the Wild.
5 minutes later, I got up and left the house to go back to the shop. I immediately disliked the analogue sticks on those joy-cons. I bought a pro controller, made my way back home and haven’t used the joy-cons since.
It was an off the cuff remark made on a podcast. He was probably just rounding up. If it was a press release with actual sales data, I'd take it more seriously.
If their next console is an upgraded Switch with backwards compatibility (which would be the sensible thing to do) and they sold the original as a budget model. There’s no reason it couldn’t blow past the DS and PS2 easily.
I’m not sure that’ll happen though. The one thing you can’t count on Nintendo doing, is the sensible thing.
My only question is; have the controls been revised? Is there a dual analogue mode? I don’t mind the original control scheme, but it only really works on an N64 controller and more contemporary dual analogue controls work better for a first person shooter.
I think the title must go to Ecks vs Sever. The film has a 0% on rottom tomatoes, even with 119 reviews (I think it is literally the worst reviewed film on the site). It is generally viewed as one of the worst films ever made. But spawned two fairly decent GBA first person shooters.

I think this is Double Dragon's fifth or sixth "modern revival" now. At what point does it become simply "a new entry in the long running series"?
Re: Magnetic Joy-Con Sticks Already In The Works For Switch 2 Amid Fears Of Drift
@Troubbble ALL analogue sticks are susceptible to this issue, no matter which technology they use.
Some are more susceptible than others. Hall sticks are among the least susceptible, which is why people generally prefer them.
Re: Magnetic Joy-Con Sticks Already In The Works For Switch 2 Amid Fears Of Drift
@Jumwa yes. Because magnetic shielding is a thing.

Re: Video: Here's Another Look At Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion Ahead Of Its Switch 2 Release

Also, because they’re actually putting the game on the bloody game card and that’s something I’m eager to support.

@MoldyPasta Yes. That is a part of the original game. It's how Ecco mapped his surroundings.
Re: Nintendo Expects You To Pay For Its Switch 2 "Welcome Tour" User Guide

lol. I remember late 2016 when this website had like, two new articles a week. One or both of which was speculation about the Switch.
How times have changed.
Re: Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Is Getting Another Physical Switch Release
Great. I’ve got the limited run release on order. I think I’ll cancel that and get this one.
It’s cheaper, arrives sooner and I really don’t like limited run. I’ll only buy from them if there isn’t any other choice.
Also, this one will have the Pegi rating rather than the ESRB. Very minor point, but I never liked the look of ESRB ratings.

That’s what I’ve been waiting to hear. Love the look of this. It looks like Power Drift meets OutRun meets Daytona meets Sega Rally.
Almost as if they plucked the concept straight out of my dreams.

I literally just beat Ganondorf yesterday. Only took me about 230 hours, lol.
I’m umming and aging as to whether to go back and 100% that game. I did it with BotW and while it was rewarding, it was a heck of a slog
