Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are in for the week ending 24th October, and they reflect a relatively quiet week in terms of software.
The only new entry in the top 10 is Blue Reflection: Second Light, which has a PS4 version in 2nd and the Switch iteration in 7th. The first two places are both PS4 titles, but then the top 10 is all Nintendo Switch. There are quite a few evergreen titles, while Metroid Dread sales more than halved to see it drop to 4th this week.
An interesting note is Ring Fit Adventure rising up to third place (it was 12th last week), with its sales up by around a third. It's truly become a notable and consistent success on Switch, bringing back memories of the continued demand for Wii Fit two generations ago.
Below is the top ten (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
- [PS4] Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles (Aniplex, 10/14/21) – 15,996 (110,845)
- [PS4] Blue Reflection: Second Light (Koei Tecmo, 10/21/21) – 14,048 (New)
- [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo, 10/18/19) – 10,155 (2,879,734)
- [NSW] Metroid Dread (Nintendo, 10/08/21) – 9,999 (119,018)
- [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo, 12/07/18) – 9,360 (4,469,716)
- [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04/28/17) – 8,695 (4,103,819)
- [NSW] Blue Reflection: Second Light (Koei Tecmo, 10/21/21) – 8,380 (New)
- [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft, 06/21/18) – 8,306 (2,243,119)
- [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo, 03/20/20) – 6,581 (6,909,879)
- [NSW] Pokémon Sword and Shield (The Pokemon Company, 11/15/19) – 6,280 (4,169,875)
In the hardware charts the positions remain largely the same with the latest Switch OLED Model leading the way. In a sign that its sales are a reflection of supply struggling to meet demand it shifted nearly double the units of last week, so Nintendo evidently got a bit more stock out to stores. In any case the Switch family continues to lead the way.
- Switch OLED Model – 61,169 (242,072)
- Switch – 38,658 (17,267,673)
- PlayStation 5 – 11,526 (951,035)
- Switch Lite – 8,295 (4,106,660)
- Xbox Series S – 3,815 (45,675)
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 2,754 (182,857)
- PlayStation 4 – 462 (7,814,542)
- New 2DS LL (including 2DS) – 449 (1,175,772)
- Xbox Series X – 74 (64,992)

The Switch family of systems is approaching 22 MILLION in Japan alone. Unstoppable. Happy to see Dread still up there, still charting in the UK and as of this moment it’s still number one on the eShop. Looking forward to the US monthly figures.
Ring Fit Adventure is my most played Switch game, followed by ACNH. MK8 and Smash are also up there, though at the moment my Switch has turned into Monster Train Handheld and is taunting me to play more.
Does anyone know the global figures for Ring Fit? It certainly deserves a sequel or some DLC
@Duncanballs 11.26 Million

@Duncanballs It really hit the sweet spot for me in terms of exercise game + RPG mashup. DLC and/or a sequel would be great; as good as it is, there are many ways it could be improved (such as fixing the maddening sensing in several minigames, adding more exercises, and incentivizing or rebalancing low-attack exercises) and it would be great to have more areas, story, challenges and sidequests!
@Duncanballs 11.26 million as of June 30 2021
The 10th best selling game on the switch
We will get the September 30 numbers in a week or so
Metroid sold the maximum JRPG attack damage this week.
@MS7000 TIL that Pokémon isn't abbreviated in the JP game titles - who knew??!
LOL at Metroid Dread selling exactly 9,999 copies.
As I suspected, OLED model stock will be the only thing holding back Nintendo's Q4 2021, especially in Japan where Black Friday discounts aren't really a thing (the inevitable Mario Kart 8 DX Black Friday/Christmas bundle will sell huge numbers in the west).
@AmplifyMJ I'm happy to see the Switch/Switch Lite (and Nintendo, and consoles/games in general) doing well; at this point it has surpassed the total of the Wii U + 3DS, which it replaces, and is closing in on the Wii. (And the PS2 in Japan, though perhaps a better comparison would be PS2 + PSP.)
PS5 is about to overtake the Wii U though.
ring fit definitely isn't a handheld game so the OLED doesn't seem like it would bring much new to the table, so I assume the surge is first time Switch buyers?
I need to get back into ring fit to exercise more....
I absolutely adore my OLED. The screen is just magnificent. Just got my Skull and Co grip too; livin’ that mobile gaming nirvana.
@AmplifyMJ Crazy to think that statistically, 1/5 Japanese people own a Switch.
Does the chip shortage not affect Nintendo Switch?
I mean seriously...about 5x the sales of the OLED Model alone compared to PS5.
And Sony just shrugs it shoulders and says "chip shortage".
Does Nintendo have some dirty pictures they use to blackmail chip manufacturers into prioritizing Tegra chips or what? LOL!
I played this hard when it came out, but fell off quite quickly. It did push me into other forms of exercise though. So absolutely a win.
Having fallen off those in recent months perhaps it's time to return to Ring Fit!
I was prepared for next gen not having much of an impact on Switch momentum (even in the West) but I didn't predict how far behind next gen would be in Japan.
Hoping Blue Reflection is good.
Ring Fit Adventure is such and incredible gem of an experience. Nintendo should add DLC to this game; I'd buy it in a heart beat. (Bu-dum-tss!)
Just by going by the chart not just what's top seems to tell the real story of Success of Switch itself. The more you have listed the better the chances of it selling in the Long Run for Nintendo survival and getting more games on their system. Now all we need is GenShin Impact Physical on Switch and this will be a run away for Switch.
@GamingFan4Lyf I think Nintendo's strategy of using slightly older tech paying off.
There's likely less demand/competition for the older chips Nintendo are using whereas it's likely laptop, smartphone, tablet manufacturers are all wanting the newer chips the Series X and PS5 are using.
