@rjejr I get the feeling that a lot of companies don't really care until they are actually forced into it through things like new regulations or they get sued.
@IceClimbers I may have. I don't remember all of the DLC characters being leaked so they must have taken some kind of action afterwards.
@rjejr Apparently, eShop data is managed by the individual companies. If they don't bother to do anything, you get leaks like this.
A lot of studios don't bother to remove access to certain data which is why you get leaks like Mewtwo in Smash (but they learned afterwards which is why he was pretty much the only leak). It's a combination of being lazy and being careless.
@AlternateButtons Because it's gone through the Korean rating board. Unlike the ESRB, it doesn't rate gameplay videos. It rates exclusively gameplay. That means the game would both have to be in a playable state and that Epic Games feels like the rating was worth applying for.
It also helps that now Paladins has been officially confirmed while being leaked in the exact same server data as Fortnite.
@Menchi187 Oh I don't know, it might have something to do with the fact that Zelda has notoriously done poorly in Japan while normally Monster Hunter has done amazing?
Those are very poor sales for a mainline MH game in Japan for that time period, conversely those are very good sales for a Zelda game in Japan. Frame of reference is important here.
@electrolite77 What do you expect? They have to move the goalposts when their original narrative doesn't fit.
Hm...the game is pretty much confirmed at this point. The Korean board doesn't rate videos unlike the ESRB. That means that the game must have been playable for the board to even bother rating it.
I foresee a shit ton of "I told you so's" during E3.
@thesilverbrick Probably a placeholder price as well. It wouldn't be the first time Amazon has done so (see Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at CAD$100 before release).
@Yosheel Pinsir's evolution (I think?) also looks a bit like Mega Heracross. Double Ghastly Pokémon was also giving me some Spiritomb vibes especially with that aura around it.
It's also quite interesting seeing how they proceeded with some of the designs. The Hoppip line had a bunch of limbs added (with Jumpluff looking very different). Ledian also had some pretty massive changes to its design. End result was something more anthropomorphic.
It does seem to lend more credence to what GameFreak was saying about making a pool of Pokémon and drawing from it for each generation. Some of these Pokémon were used and/or modified for later generations.
Examples:
Huntail ended up being a Generation III Pokemon. Tangrowth and Mime Jr. showed up in Generation IV. Also, bottom left rodent Pokémon looks very much like Dedenne from Generation VI
For the most part, I can see something like this working in Japan. They don't want the extra clutter and probably play mostly in mobile mode anyways.
The weird thing though is that the charger isn't there. This is the one aspect that I feel "could" work outside of Japan but seems really odd to do in Japan. Any standard USB-C charger works on the Switch (I've been mostly using my Pixel charger with no issues). Japan has the most evenly split market share for iOS and Android. Seeing as how iOS devices don't use USB-C and not all of the 50% Android users in Japan will have an USB-C compatible device it definitely seems like a weird decision. It's not like China where >80% of mobile users use Android, where there are plenty of high end options for fairly cheap.
The pin giveaway seems like a pretty smart idea. This will increase the odds of seeing someone playing a Switch on streams and footage (especially if they're trying to get a Nintendo rep's attention for the pins). It'll make the Switch look very popular (more so than it already is) and will make Nintendo's presence appear bigger at the convention.
With a name like that I was kind of expecting something more like the GBA game Circle of the Moon. Oh well it's free anyways so I guess I'll give it a try.
@Morgan19 What time limit? I don't see anything like that at the bottom of the screen.
@Rika_Yoshitake I don't think calling Paladins a clone is even appropriate in this case. The two games have a little too close of a development cycle to be making changes in such tiny timeframes for copying heroes. It takes quite a bit of time to make new models and animations.
If anything they probably have the same inspirations. LoL, Dota 2, and Heroes have characters that have pretty similar abilities since they all have inspiration from the original Dota (with members of the original team having worked on all 3 of the spiritual successors). Not all of the characters are the same or similar between the 3 games and that's also the case with Overwatch and Paladins.
@Yasume I think the opposite is going to happen if past history is anything to go by. Almost all negative publicity has caused games sales to spike, simply due to higher media coverage. It's also not something that's really going to affect anyone except for repurchasers and Wii U owners.
All of this is going to result in more people knowing about the game and showing interest in it especially with its review scores. I'm predicting it will sell MORE than its predecessor and by quite a bit.
EDIT: Oh also looks like the game is back up in NA, the only region it was missing from.
@thesilverbrick It seems like you can also do it for the price of effectively free if you have spare cardboard lying around. They've put up the pdfs for the sheets as well. It's in the article itself:
"If you'd like to try making these yourself, Nintendo has also published PDFs of all the various bits so you can cut out your own parts."
It's probably the biggest takeaway from this. You can essentially get the replacement parts for much cheaper providing you do it yourself.
@KcebEnyaw The way it's worded in the article makes it seem like opening a box only unlocks the item in-game and then you must buy it using stamps you get from the lootboxes. The line afterwards makes it seem like the stamps are for buyng stuff you want from the lootboxes but didn't actually managed to get from the boxes directly.
In the first situation, I can see why people would be annoyed (especially if the number of stamps isn't enough from the lootbox for said item). It's probably the second case though, which frankly is par for the course for a F2P mobile app. The app definitely needs a means of generating income.
@tangram Well they're consistent, they generally don't combine the 3DS family sales either. It would be preferable if they just combine the similar models though.
On another note, Splatoon 2 has some real staying power. I guess I don't have to worry about a lack of people to play with anytime soon.
My favourite is probably How to Win at Nintendo 64 Games by Hank Schlesinger. It was a handy cheats, codes and tips book.
I often used it to quick reference things like the Rampage 2 Universal Tour unlock codes and it helped me learn about a host of other things like Gossip Stones spawning additional fairies and unlock conditions for Gold Iceman in 1080.
@Dang69 Wouldn't that harm sales of the Switch version? The 3DS version has already been sold in Japan and anyone with more than just a Switch (like a PC or PS4) probably wouldn't wait that long considering how far away Square Enix is implying the release date will be.
@rjejr Back in Dreamland 2 (and 3) Kirby had buddies which he could use for additional movement capabilities. Kine (the fish) and Coo (the owl) could enable him to swim and fly faster. All of the animal friends also affected Kirby's absorbed powers in different ways (except for Gooey the Dark Matter blob; he could eat and use enemy powers like Kirby).
As far as I can tell, the animal friends use attacks based on their power variants from the older games. I think Gooey had a completely new moveset made though (probably because they don't want him to have the same abilities as Kirby).
@jimmyjames It might be that the 3rd parties are hesitant to sell a fully featured controller. We don't know the mark up Nintendo has on the pro controllers (might not be one at all depending on how expensive the tech is). Could be that the 3rd parties don't feel there's profit to be made to sell a fully featured controller, especially given that people are already hesitant to pick up a pro controller at its current price.
Does anyone else feel that the shiny gamepad finish makes some of the paintjobs look a bit off? It feels especially jarring on that Splatoon controller (though it looks better on the box art).
@rjejr Why would you cut Pacman though? Namco has released at least two Pacman related games on the Switch already. There's Pacman Championship Edition 2 and Namco Museum (with multiplayer Pacman Vs. released for free) not to mention all of the other games they've supported the console with so far.
@KoopaTheGamer That'd be a bit a weird since that night light was released around 5.5 years ago. Well then again perhaps they're teasing a new line of night lights.
I'm not saying that it's definitely a Switch tease but it'd be a bit odd otherwise since Blizzard generally announces their merchandise outright.
@crackafreeze We also haven't been close to par for a while now. They should just remove the "/Canada" if they aren't going to put the respective price there. Probably be the easier route too.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Maybe a DS VC release? They did a few for the Wii U if I remember right. Or even something as part of the subscription retro games library (we still need more info on that)?
@JJ286 Shadow has never actually sold well in Japan. Most of its sales are generated in the western markets so it'll be perfectly fine.
I'm much more concerned about Dragon Ball FighterZ since previous Dragon Ball fighting games (especially Budokai) have sold fairly well in Japan (500k+). I hope it's more of a stock issue (like Xenoverse) rather than "having issues selling".
@Octane I'm not so sure about it selling close to 3mil. Bi-weekly sales have dropped to around 150k. It's also been shown, that in Japan most console games don't have the same kind of sales endurance portable games have (Nintendo console games are a bit strange in that regard).
I see it selling about 2.3 million at best on PS4 given those particular factors. I can see it selling more than MH X with the PC sales included. Though that still proves that portable MH is still king in Japan when you need two different platforms to compete with it in Japan.
Capcom will most likely be happy about the combined sales, at the same time they'll also be looking into how to get that considerable portable market.
@Trickbaby14 You'd be correct. World isn't anywhere remotely near the original release of MH4 or MH X in Japan in regards to sales. That plus the considerable fall off in sales means it most likely won't ever reach their lifetime sales in Japan. We're seeing just how much more Japan prefers mobile MH compared to console MH.
It is however coming close to MH3's 3DS sales.
Most of MH World's growth in sales were essentially redistributed to other regions. Which is expected, since the game is targeting a more western audience.
The boost in Switch sales would be limited at best as in Japan they're still ironing out their supply issues (most stock seems to have been sent out to the other regions). The console base is also still fairly small (well I guess half of Xbox One global sales isn't small). Both of those aspects would have limited the number of copies Capcom could sell on the platform.
Well there's no real rush. Capcom has some pretty scalable frameworks available so it most likely won't take them all THAT long to make a Switch MH game after seeing how popular the console is. Seriously, they managed to get an originally PS3 developed MH game (which was also a mainline title) to work on the Wii of all things. The power difference was much more extreme back then than it is now not to mention the Wii was a notoriously difficult console to develop for.
They can afford to wait since they don't have any serious competition in that genre yet on the Switch (see God Eater).
@thesilverbrick Sort of. It's sold well if you take it in the context that it was a console release. Compared to portable versions the sales are about 1/3 at best compared to past flagship titles in Japan. Even the non-flagship titles have outsold it by a pretty good margin of sales.
Really most of the sales have been redistributed between the regions and Japan has shown us that even on a platform with more users they still much prefer the portable versions vs the console versions. Having 33 million more potential users probably helped outside of Japan as well.
If anything this bodes well for a portable MH being developed (but not being released outside of Japan).
@noobish_hat Because they consolidated their internal studios. It used to be that they had separate portable and console divisions but they thought it'd be more efficient to combine them.
Given their better pacing of releases this time around, I'm inclined to agree with their stance.
I'm guessing they don't consider it to be a major update if there are no new characters, ARMs or levels involved. Though it probably does bode well for anyone waiting for new modes to be added.
@BanjoPickles They'd probably charge more for analog triggers. If they go the Gamecube route it's probably better for the consumer if they just remap to something that works without analogs (or let us map the controls ourselves)
Or just sell the analog controllers separate from the normal ones (as I seriously doubt they'd replace them for existing owners).
@SLIGEACH_EIRE If I remember right Steam doesn't use a scoring system. It's distributed between "Recommended" and "Not Recommended". 9/10 is most likely just 90% of Steam reviewers (of Shelter 2) recommend playing the game.

@Kinoen I think they mean the Switch version of Blazblue. That one has a bit less than half of the sales of the PS4 version.
It's at 17th place on the list with 4,271 units sold. The bottom 10 of the top 20 or so is missing from this article.

@Mommar "This didn't answer my prayer. I wanted an official Controller just with a D-Pad. Not a gimped third party thing."
It's not a 3rd party thing if it's officially licensed by Nintendo. Hori is a licensed peripheral manufacturer for Nintendo.
Re: Your Prayers Have Been Answered, Hori Is Making A Joy-Con With A Proper D-Pad
@Mommar The official joycon (which can be sold in pairs or individually) goes for US$50 individually. This is half the price for an individual joycon.
@CDreams It's licensed by Nintendo so it's not just some random 3rd party device.
Re: The OJO Projector For Switch Has Completed Another Successful Crowdfunding Campaign
@JHDK See, if Hori did it, it'd probably at least be somewhat legit since they're licensed by Nintendo.
I think people are just desperate at this point to be funding these.
Re: These Officially-Licensed Switch Controllers Look Absolutely Stunning
@jimmyjames It might be that the 3rd parties are hesitant to sell a fully featured controller. Re: Circle Is Bringing Shelter Generations To Switch As A Console Exclusive
@SLIGEACH_EIRE If I remember right Steam doesn't use a scoring system. It's distributed between "Recommended" and "Not Recommended". 9/10 is most likely just 90% of Steam reviewers (of Shelter 2) recommend playing the game.
