Kirby Star Allies has brought the little pink ball of gluttony back into our hearts, and he's brought plenty of friends along for the ride. In fact, Kirby is getting even more pals as the first wave of additional buddies arrives for users in North America.
Spotted by eagle-eyed Twitter user Ilexand, the update brings four new buddies to the mix, and many of them will be familiar to long-serving Kirby fans. You'll get to buddy up with Gooey from Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby Super Star boss Marx and the trio of Rick, Kine and Coo from Kirby's Dream Land 2.

We need a video of Alex playing with these so we can see what they do, I have no idea who any of them are.
@rjejr Back in Dreamland 2 (and 3) Kirby had buddies which he could use for additional movement capabilities. Kine (the fish) and Coo (the owl) could enable him to swim and fly faster. All of the animal friends also affected Kirby's absorbed powers in different ways (except for Gooey the Dark Matter blob; he could eat and use enemy powers like Kirby).
As far as I can tell, the animal friends use attacks based on their power variants from the older games. I think Gooey had a completely new moveset made though (probably because they don't want him to have the same abilities as Kirby).
Who is in Wave 2?
I’m loving them. They’ve all got surprisingly complex movesets, and they’re loaded with nostalgia. Never dreamt I’d ever be able to play as Marx, and he has essentially every attack he had in the final fight of Super Star.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Adeleine and Prince Fluff!
I'd trade all of them in for more stages and more difficulty.
@Ernest_The_Crab Thanks, I read they are characters from older Kirby games but I'm still curious how they work in game. Do you choose them in the Dream Palace or find them along the way? Does player 1 get to play as them or take their abilities? Are they available in story mode or just speed run?
Since they just posted this same article about 5 hours ago I thought this one would have a video at lest showing them in the game. I've only played the game as player 3 myself, mostly as King Dedede and Metaknigth as most of the others bore me, so I'm curious how these play, I still haven't decided if I'll go back and play the game solo.
@Kalmaro Playing as these new characters introduces new remixed versions of stages. They're not new new but it's something.
@AlexOlney It's something, and I'm grateful for it! I just wish I sucked at games more or something so I couldn't beat a Kirby game so fast, haha.
@rjejr You get them in the dream palace.
Marx is my main
Aww man. These guys are already out??? I bought the game but havent had time to play it yet.
@PhilKenSebben Thanks.
Here's a game explain vid for anyone curious like I am.
I'm just waiting for even cooler characters to be added. I predict that three waves were planned: Retro (90s), Less-Retro (2000s), and Modern (2010s). I suspect Ribbon, Adeleine (plays like Artist), and maybe Daroach will be added for the second wave. It seems obvious that Magolor (plays like Plasma or ESP), Taranza (plays like Spider), and Susie will be added in the third.
But hey, what do I know?
I played through the story once, and while I enjoyed it, I would only be interested in replaying with a friend. Every level in the game gives you everything you need to find the puzzle pieces and switches right in the level and only a couple times did I have to replay a level to get something. It was only on the final level that I died more than twice, but I still finished the game with around 120 lives stockpiled up.
Replaying the game just to collect the rest of the common puzzle pieces or with specific side characters just doesn't interest me that much.
