@SLIGEACH_EIRE That certainly explains the PS4 spike in sales. It doesn't really work for the XboxX sales unless they plan on importing the game/purchase digitally from a foreign store. MH:W is exclusive to PS4 in Japan.
@Radbot42 Maybe they view bounty hunting as a form of contracting?
She's essentially a government contractor but goes off to do her own thing occasionally. If had to guess she's also less restricted by the law so maybe a futuristic corsair of some sort.
@Tsurii It's easily the fastest out of the Smash Bros games when it comes to matches. Also, the attacks "feel" like they hit harder, anywhere from Meteor smashes and to Smash attacks. It definitely has its fans due to those things.
@thesilverbrick You do realize then, that Mario Tennis is not actually 1st party? Kirby is the only 1st party title in that list that's coming out soon. It's essentially barren from a true 1st party point of view.
And like I was saying before, these releases don't seem to be targeting most of us here on Nintendo Life. They did not "blow it", as you put it, once you realize that.
EDIT: Also, everyone was too hyped up in the first place. The only reason our Direct was so big last year in January was due to them prepping for the Switch launch in February. That being said, NoA really didn't help matters by adding fuel with their fooling around.
@thesilverbrick Well Bayonetta 1 & 2 are out in February. So it's not like they have no releases earlier than Kirby.
The problem seems to lie with the fact that they announced stuff a lot earlier than their actual release dates. Whereas Kirby looked like it was ready to come out soon, Yoshi still had some polishing to do (based on the trailer, animations still needed work), and frankly Prime, Fire Emblem, and Pokémon were most likely still in their planning phases.
What are they going to announce, that they wouldn't save for E3? Pikmin also seems like something they'd mention there as well. Only thing that would make sense are titles that are coming up soonish (things we'd have known about or would be easy to put together fast) and ports (since those are generally outsourced).
They are going for the shrewd business approach. Everyone on this site is already out of the ordinary compared to the run of the mill gaming consumers. Wii U ports will not interest most of us. However, can we say the same of the majority of Switch owners? Probably not. Most of these people are either coming from the 3DS or are gamers who used to have time for gaming and invested in a Switch for being able to play anywhere.
Combined with the more core Nintendo fans' tolerance, this is much less of a mistake and more of a well thought out business decision.
@rayword45 "One of these patents is said...", from an official statement from Colopl. In other words, we only have information from the defendant.
I don't know about you, but information solely from a defendant or plaintiff is generally quite biased. Just like how a bunch of people here are in no position to accuse other people of victimization you too are not in a position to call people shills.
@LordGeovanni They might be talking about Ekans, which does evolve. The fact that they mentioned this in an article about another snake Pokémon does make it a bit more confusing though.
@NEStalgia It really depends since both Intel and AMD are the ones that make chips. I'm guessing this was not a pleasant surprise for them (their partners coming out with these investigation results).
They stand to benefit from the end results but I feel between the potential litigation/brand damage (especially in Europe which has stronger laws in place) and the damages they will need to pay out (more of a gesture really) they may be a bit pissed at their partners. Those two pretty much control the entire chip market, they'll definitely ask for some concessions from their partners and are definitely in a bargaining position for it.
We might see a change in the landscape depending on how these relationships turn out after the fallout.
Could end up being a plus for the consumer if some more large companies get into the business of chip making (potentially Google?)
I feel that if anything major happens in the industry it'll still be quite a ways off.
@Dan_Dan That's what I was thinking. I doubt the hacking community would be able to keep something like Meltdown secret for that long if it were really that easy to exploit and was practical for them.
It's impact on Switch owners will probably be minimal at best especially considering Nintendo's own privacy and security policies.
@NEStalgia See that's the weird thing though. Intel and AMD released new CPUs not too long ago and apparently those are also affected by the exploits. Especially, in Spectre they'd have to change their whole process for chip manufacturing. That's REALLY EXPENSIVE and announcing the exploits in advance without any chips in the works could be counterproductive. I think it's more likely that the information was going to come to light soon anyways so the companies opted to give this information out "freely" by their hands rather it come from someone else.
@JHDK I always thought it was just a bunch of different myths and legends (except for certain games that have clear Link's like Ocarina and Majora's). It's fun to see some the speculations though.
EDIT: If anything, I feel like some games end up where they are in the "timeline" due to the setting they choose and past experience/preconceptions from past games which ends up with the devs fitting them into the timeline subconsciously.
I played some of the beta and really felt it needs some work. The number of invisible walls was annoying to say the least. The forest area had a lot of sections where you couldn't simply jump off.
This problem was much less noticeable in previous iterations as the map better indicated locations where you could change zones (zones are still a thing in this one) and the overall size of the areas was smaller.
Flying monsters appear to be a bigger problem in this one. Traversing the forest was pain in the ass with the worse map and the relatively limited vertical movement options. They may want to look into adjusting the maps a bit to be less restrictive in that respect. Due to bigger zone size AND the fact that flying monsters aren't really affected by terrain could be an issue.
@OorWullie His point, which you seem to have missed, is that your confidence may have been ill-placed. He was a bit of an ass in the way he worded it, but that doesn't mean his point was wrong. Responding with a strawman argument doesn't change that.
@sinalefa It looks like a bunch of the Switch titles have gotten sizable boosts during this holiday period (even Zelda which normally isn't as popular as the other regions).
@justin233 Seems like it's scored decently. The classic version of Kingdoms is also free right now on Steam so you can give that a try first before you figure out if you want to pick it up.
@Daftbomb Will probably get it for multiplayer. I have a younger brother and also bunch of buddies that'll be interested in another local multiplayer game.
@Saego Also, it's very light on resources compared to Skype. Could be handy for a console that prides itself on being fast. Might be able to make it even lighter on resources if you can just connect through some portal (that way you don't need the app itself on the console). Discord already supports chat through browser and the Switch does have a browser (even if we can't access it ourselves).
EDIT: You get some other functionality too in one app like streaming capabilities and friend/group sorting.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They would pass the expense to us regardless. They always sell their consoles with profit in mind. Anything substantial in storage size would increase the cost of the portable. This would, in turn, increase the price of the console overall. Seeing as not everyone buys digital in the first place it wouldn't make much sense to raise prices across the board.
The problem in this case, is that many developers, other than Nintendo (and few other exceptions), opted for the lowest storage capacity cartridges and forced everything else through a download (and still charged a full $10 more for their games in many cases). That's not to say that Nintendo isn't partially at fault here (since this seems like a foreseeable problem), however a lot of devs also seem to be keen to nickel and dime us.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm guessing it's because the first game already lives on in games like A Link to the Past and Breath of the Wild when it comes to the game design and mechanics.
Zelda 2 could be getting a chance simply because of how different it is compared to the other Zelda games.
Well, at the end of the day, all of this is speculation anyways.
EDIT: Personally, I think it's a sequel to one of Grezzo's own games. Specifically, another game that has "Legend" in the title, The Legend of Legacy. The "Legend2" would be fairly accurate here as well.
@XenoShaun I believe they mentioned that they were working on a new Tales game a while back. They probably weren't in any rush to release it (hence why we haven't heard any more news on it).
After the Switch's initial success, Namco is most likely pushing more resources into the game to get it out sooner (probably couple months earlier, not a year earlier).
EDIT: I feel Tekken might be one of the 3 games. There's virtually no competitors in the fighting genre on the Switch right now.
I thought barring Giovanni and Ghetsis most of the other team leaders weren't particularly evil in their games. Hopefully, it's actually written to make sense.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It seems the outfits are mostly progression based with more outfits available in shops, the more moons you've collected.
All shops appear to be near a checkpoint (which apparently you can warp to). The outfits are split between either kingdom specific or not (with regular coins for regular outfits and region specific currency for regional outfits).
Regular outfits are probably easier to get since gold coins respawn.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm concerned about how they would approach that. One of the selling points of the console is how fast it is to boot up and go straight into gaming. Part of this is due to how efficient the actual OS is.
Hopefully, it wouldn't be mandatory things added to the menu and players can choose if they want that stuff.
@MrGawain Frankly, I feel Reggie is a much more patient man than I am. Considering the number of times HQ has done things without telling NA, I'd be pretty annoyed.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Apparently, they started brainstorming after 3D World released (late 2013). They didn't really get anywhere major until they had an Eureka moment after playing around with the Switch Joycons which resulted in the Cappy based gameplay that Odyssey is based around. Considering when 3D World was released, this does seem to suggest that a working prototype of the Switch already existed by the end of 2013.
So unlike Zelda, the development for Odyssey was still extremely early stages prior to moving to the Switch (if you can even call it moving).
On a side note, it looks like Zelda was in development 1-2 years before they had a working prototype of the Switch. Considering Zelda's 5 year development, they would had plenty of time to decide if they wanted to port it to the Switch.
@rjejr They didn't lock anything special behind Amiibos for Odyssey. All they do is unlock outfits for Mario (which you can get from simply playing the game).
@Hobbesyall Might be part of the circumstances surrounding the series themselves. Zelda has always had more worldwide appeal vs Fire Emblem's more Japanese centric themes.
I wouldn't be surprised if that heavily impacted the character choices made for Fire Emblem Warriors (which is based around two very Japanese IPs).
@Bolt_Strike They've made a couple in the past. None of them have sold well. I'm not surprised that they're a bit more hesitant to make another M rated title.
They'll probably just stick to publishing M rated titles like Fatal Frame and Bayonetta 2 for now.
@electrolite77 It probably also helps that a lot of indie games put an emphasis on multiplayer (especially local multiplayer). The Switch design helps to promote this type of gameplay and great indie games that focus on this in turn help promote the console.
After playing Snipperclips, Shovel Knight and Overcooked between both my and my friend's Switch it really gives me a good appreciation for how easy it is to get into local multiplayer sessions.
@Spoony_Tech The cost would get passed onto the consumer regardless. More internal storage (especially for a portable) would require a larger SSD. Those are pretty expensive, especially at the higher storage limits.
By opting for a smaller size, it doesn't force people that wouldn't go for DL versions of games to pay the cost for it. Judging by the sales of the NPD for example (which doesn't track digital) there are still A LOT of people that buy physical. It wouldn't be fair to force them to pay for the extra storage they wouldn't use in the first place.
EDIT: After all, Nintendo doesn't sell at a loss unless they have absolutely no choice (ie moving shipments faster).
@Exy It's probably because a lot of people simply forget the password if it's that long or they end up writing it down somewhere which would result in things being less secure.
I use the tried and true method of shifting the keys on something I will remember (which results in long and nonsensical passwords) but I doubt the majority of people even bother with that.
@HawkeyeWii I think it also depends on how you play your Switch. In my case, having a portable Skyrim is pretty big. If portability is your thing it might be worth it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm not even sure why "new" is in the article title. This is an updated port of the original Phantasy Star Online 2.
The microtransactions subtitle seems unnecessary too since the game its based off of has microtransactions and is "free to play".
The game will most likely make it out of Japan (not sure if you guys in Europe will get it though). There were originally plans to bring PSO2 to NA but it was delayed (most likely due to this substantial update to the game I'm guessing).
@kitroplious We'll probably end up getting it in NA since Sega mentioned plans to do so (that have since been delayed, maybe because of this major update or perhaps they arrived at a publishing deal with Nintendo?)
@fbnaulin Maybe there was a difference in IP owner involvement? I mean if we look at Konami in recent times........on the other hand Nintendo is generally really protective of their IPs
@Joeynator3000 From my understanding, you can transfer money between "family" in Paypal with different currencies (up to a certain ceiling before you get charged fees).
For people importing games, that can be useful if their MasterCard or Visa isn't accepted in the region they are purchasing in.
For example, if I wanted to buy MH XX from the JPN eShop I could simply transfer funds from one PayPal account to another region's PayPal account as part of a "family transfer". Those funds would be eligible for purchasing the game on the JPN eShop. I wouldn't need to be concerned about my credit card not working in that region and I wouldn't need to deal with the high shipping costs/shipping time from Play Asia.
@Krillin_ Well the original version on PS4 sold about 350k off of a base of around 60mil PS4s (18.5mil as of the game launch) as of 2017.
Comparatively this port has sold around 100k off a base of about 4.7mil Switches (2.74mil as of the port's launch) as of July 2017.
Assuming the game's sales were extremely frontloaded (which is usually the case), that means that the port sold about 30% of the original's sales so far off of a Switch base that was either 15% of the base of the PS4 base at their respective game launches or a total Switch base that was 8% of the total PS4 base.
In either case it means from proportional standpoint, the port either outsold the original considerably or massively (less reliable calculation as, if the games were heavily frontloaded, the effect on sales would have been negligible over that long of a period of time).
@fox_mattcloud Most of the games you can get on the other consoles. The exceptions are Pac-Man Vs. which is only available on Gamecube, DS and now the Nintendo Switch and Splatterhouse which virtually has had no additional console releases (except for a censored version of the game on Wii VC).
I wouldn't be surprised if people pick it up simply for Vs.

EDIT: Nevermind, there's a Luncheon Kingdom but there doesn't seem to be a dessert themed kingdom from what I can see.
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Getting A New Phantasy Star Online Game
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Getting A New Phantasy Star Online Game
@MegaTen Couldn't you still play it since the Switch is region-free, though admittedly the language barrier could be an issue.
Re: Review: Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)
@fbnaulin Maybe there was a difference in IP owner involvement? I mean if we look at Konami in recent times........on the other hand Nintendo is generally really protective of their IPs
Re: PayPal Payment Option Arrives On Switch eShop
Re: Disgaea 5 Complete Passes 100,000 Sales on Nintendo Switch
@Malakai Is that Japan only or global?
If that's global then the Switch version did even better than I thought it did.
EDIT: Oh that's global. Huh, that means the port did very well in comparison.
Re: Disgaea 5 Complete Passes 100,000 Sales on Nintendo Switch
Re: Playtonic Gives Update On Yooka-Laylee For Switch
@Marshi They mentioned that the patch would be worked into the Switch version before it gets released, in a prior statement regarding this patch.
I'm guessing they want the game to be as good as it can get before they release it (especially after seeing what happened to the other versions).
Re: Video: Get Warmed Up for Namco Museum With This New Trailer
@fox_mattcloud Most of the games you can get on the other consoles. The exceptions are Pac-Man Vs. which is only available on Gamecube, DS and now the Nintendo Switch and Splatterhouse which virtually has had no additional console releases (except for a censored version of the game on Wii VC).
I wouldn't be surprised if people pick it up simply for Vs.
