@Bobb Actually Arthur isn't their name. The character is from a card game where all candidates for king have Arthur appended to their job title. So in this case it's a thief that is a candidate for king (there's also a diva, sword user, engineer, sorceress, etc). Not actually King Arthur (though the text for Sword Protector seems to suggest they're the Arthur from mythology).
@DanteSolablood Yeah, it does look like a piece of glass. The eye itself is probably attached to it with the glass rotating to swivel the eye (or the entire glass piece plus the ball is the eye). If it's the latter is probably has a clear (and flat) sclera.
@DanteSolablood At first I thought it was a ghost type due to the floating eye. It's a good thing that the electricity part was mentioned in the dex. It goes a long way for explaining how it's floating like that (magnetism).
@Octane They're more like cards that only drop from games (and are unique depending on the game) and they can be used to craft cosmetic items that only work for your Steam account. Crafting also gives exp for "leveling" your account for certain features such as an increased friend list capacity and gallery features for your profile (the gallery features are locked behind this).
They're like digital hockey cards that are used to unlock certain features for your Steam account like background pictures, to use galleries and expanding your friend maximum. The mass majority of cards are also only available from buying and playing a game (with certain backgrounds and other cosmetics locked behind certain games).
You can buy cards, backgrounds and the like on the marketplace as well. For the most part they all originate from someone purchasing the required game, playing it and trading for missing cards to craft the additional items (it's pretty much guaranteed you will not have the right number of cards as the maximum drops are usually lower than the amount required to craft for an item).
@Octane This is more out of curiosity but what's your opinion on Steam cards? They don't actually have a physical form but can be bought, sold and traded for money?
@justin233 You can just trade for it though which is the equivalent of it being handed to you, especially since gen 1 didn't have trade restrictions other than owning at least 2 pokemon and having a pokedex.
@justin233 Surfing Pikachu has been a thing since the original Generation 1. You can just transfer over a surfing Pikachu from Pokémon Stadium. For the sake of parity they've given Eevee additional coverage.
Actually, all of you are right depending on which version of Super Mario Bros. 3 is being talked about. The OG version of Super Mario Bros. 3 definitely did not have Monty Moles in it.
HOWEVER, the king of Iceland was changed into a Monty Mole instead of a seal in the Super Mario All-Stars version and in the GBA version of the game.
@Alikan They don't own the company in a subsidiary sense. They have a 5% stake. The actual owner is CyberAgent with their 69% stake in the company (rest is owned by Dena). They have big enough ownership to maybe make some suggestions but not enough to make any final decisions even if combined with Dena's %.
They're also not going to stop making mobile stuff since their shareholders keep pressuring them to. It's one of the problems with being public and Nintendo really only being in one field just makes things more problematic.
@brunojenso From what I remember, MH 3's premise was that some kind of natural disaster was impacting the island you were on, disrupting the natural ecosystem, which caused some of the more dangerous creatures to come close to the small fishing village you were based in. You were essentially defending the children and other defenseless people living there.
MH4 involved some kind of epidemic that caused monsters to go berserk (becoming super aggressive) which could spread to the populace as well (hunters were only temporarily affected since the illness was not specifically attacking humans). Creatures were either displaced (causing an immediate threat to the nearby village) or had to be put down so the disease wouldn't spread.
MH World kind of turns this on its head since the hunters ARE THE INVADERS in that one.
@BulbasaurusRex It's also the reason why Nintendo generally doesn't do sales very often. In terms of size of the overall company, they are easily the smallest out of the 3 (and have all of their eggs in one basket). They cannot afford to piss off retailers especially in NA.
The other two have other things they can fall back on (Sony being a huge multimedia publisher in both movies and music and Microsoft with their operating systems and other software).
@Bunkerneath It's cause the title of this article doesn't match up with his actual comment:
"It’s necessary for developers to learn to get along with [subscription services]...When seeking a partner for this, it’s important to find someone who understands the value of your software. Then customers will feel the value in your apps and software and develop a habit of paying money for them."
He said that they should get along with streaming services (ie keep an open mind) and if you ever decide to choose a partner for something like that, to find someone that understands your product.
What was that term again? The one where you write a title for additional views, usually due to some form of shock value? That's what it feels like here.
@GrailUK I think we're going to see one more Namco character and one more Square Enix character. Both Sega and Konami have 2 fighters each now (Sega has Sonic and Bayonetta while Konami has Simon and Snake and Capcom has Megaman and Ryu). Considering the amount of support they've given (especially with Namco being involved in development too, and Square Enix willing to make a completely new IP for the console) they probably do deserve it.
All of the 3rd party characters so far have come from different series and for the most part have some history with Nintendo (Cloud seems to be the odd one out in this case, with fairly low exposure). Also, they're recognizable gaming icons.
So if they most come from different series, have history with Nintendo and are gaming icons we can probably narrow down the pool considerably. Square Enix I suspect will either bring in a Kingdom Hearts or Dragon Quest character then (I'm leaning towards the latter, I hope it's a Slime Knight ).
Bandai-Namco is a bit trickier, as to me they don't really have too many standouts for a mascot or faceman that isn't already Pac-man and also has some history with Nintendo. I mean there's Goku but it seems a bit weird to have an anime character in here especially since there's already the Dragon Ball series of fighting games and anime crossover fighting games. Maybe Don Wada from Taiko no Tatsujin? That series has had many Nintendo platform releases and there's one headed West shortly before Smash Bros. release date. Character is also very recognizable in Japan.
@GrailUK Odds are there will be at least one more Direct. Sakurai mentioned in the Direct that there are a few more character reveals before the game releases.
I'm just curious about who, considering the Direct we just had and that the Direct right before release will probably need to be even bigger than this one to keep momentum going.
@jockmahon The only time where they've been extremely off is with the Wii U, and the only reason for that was it did so badly it caught them off guard.
@Zyph Quite frankly, it's not even a technicality. Under both a regular year and Nintendo's own business year it would fall into the second half of the year (since their year end is the end of March.
@SpaceboyScreams GameFreak doesn't do any of the spinoffs. They're usually done by Intelligent Systems or Genius Sonority (or in the case of Snap, Hal Laboratory).
Hal has probably been busy with Kirby and maybe Smash (if they're helping out again).
@Andrew5678 That's a good point. They may have some major 3rd party titles that have online features which they want to announce as part of the online initiative. Probably a first party surprise tossed in there for good measure at the end of the presentation given how their other presentations have gone.
I think a lot of people have also missed something. What makes you think that just because that are no announcements up until December means that's the end of all announcements? Nintendo doesn't follow the traditional year end. Any investor worth their salt would actually know that. They would also know, if they had been paying any attention, that Nintendo doesn't generally release information that far off from the actual release date and release information multiple times in a year (rather than focusing on one event).
We won't know anything regarding the 4th quarter until a bit later this year, and quite frankly I'm going to bet it won't be until after Smash and Pokemon as they'll focus all of their marketing on those games up until their release dates.
@alpha5099 That's the thing about Therion. He's an extremely fast mixed attacker (uses two weapon types and can use magic), with utility skills and multi-hit moves (one of which can essentially replace his normal attack because of how it works).
Steal is also very useful (especially after it gets upgraded) in both towns and combat since eventually you'll just have so many healing items due to double theft.
He's the one member where he doesn't have a perfect replacement (especially early game) due to his passive ability (opening purple chests) and his well rounded combat capabilities/utility.
Pretty good choice as a leader, especially if you do another character's chapter where they get locked into your party (ie if you chose a healer as your leader and choose to do the chapter for the other healer).
@Flowerlark That's the thing. In the US there really isn't a powerful body in place that can regulate and pursue action against companies (those boards are usually controlled by the same companies they are meant to regulate, even more so nowadays).
The EU is a very powerful organization made of several member countries, the G20 is made up of a good chunk of them. If you want to pursue business in any them in have to make sure you follow their rules. Even if you manage to buyout one country's government there's no guarantees you can do in any other country and you'd have to do so in a majority of them (or the most powerful ones) to be able hold your own against the EU.
I mean if you check Sony's policies they also aren't consistent in NA. They don't have most of the changes they made for the EU in their NA policies.
@Bunkerneath I think the other thing to keep in mind is that they also had access to 2 weeks of poll data. That may have been enough, on its own, to figure out who to put in. The ones leading, after removing illogical choices, were probably well in the lead.
@pika677 This is the same region that bought a Wii for Wii Sports (which is the one region where it didn't come bundled). They clearly didn't buy it for Zelda, which isn't a console seller over there.
You're clearly underestimating the casual market in Japan.
I doubt there will be any issues with them hitting that target. Japan was a region where the stock was constantly sold out due to supply constraints (they even had to use lotteries when selling their stock). It also sells about 40k+ units every two weeks without any new software.
I'm betting there will be an extremely large spike when Pokémon Let's Go comes out since it's a combination of two of the biggest things in Japan (mobile + Pokemon). I also see a large spike outside of Japan since this is something that's less likely to target the core market (where a lot of them would already have picked up the console) and rather will bring in more casual gamers. There are a number of people I know that have already preordered the game and will pick up the Switch when it comes out since it looks more relaxing and less competitive.
Then we have Smash which is likely to target more core gamers that haven't quite made the jump yet. Considering that Smash sold well over 10mil for their last game odds are this one will sell more since it has the advantages of both versions while lacking most of the disadvantages of either version (online remains to be seen).
Finally, Nintendo's year end isn't in December. It's the end of March. It'd be much more surprising for them to NOT to hit their target. It would be foolish to bet against them in this case.
Seems like going hybrid was the smart move judging by the percentages.
Seeing the responses here also seems to indicate most people are heavily one or the other.
For me it really depends on the game. I find that playing BotW, Odyssey and Xenoblade are nicer on the big screen though when I play indie games or MH XX it usually goes portable.
@DABYX I mean if it were just the art style similarities it probably wouldn't be enough. But the same bugs?! That's pretty damning evidence. If this is true, there is no way Bethesda will let them get away with it, though they may choose to settle. I'd much prefer if they proceeded with the lawsuit though since this kind of stuff really needs to be cracked down on.
Also, isn't this just pure speculation on whom the localization team is? Has NoA confirmed or denied it? If it's neutral, it's entirely possible it's a completely different localization company.
For all we know, it could be XSeed doing the localization.
@aaronsullivan The pros are on record for saying that the game plays very differently from 4.
Would certainly explain why they were making a ton of mistakes (mostly related to the new dodging mechanics) and why they were playing a lot safer than usual. Even in the finals there were a plenty of missed grabs that could have been punished.
Also, I think the word you may be looking for is homage. It's kind of like all MH Gen and MH XX are homages/loveletters to the older MH games.
@HappyRusevDay So it started as a 30FPS game as well on the PS4?
I wouldn't be surprised if it gets an update later on for this since we've already seen some games get performance improvements in later patches (like Rocket League).
@Aozz101x @Silly_G It was confirmed that there is no stamina mechanic anymore with Pokémon Trainer. That means you can stay as any one of the 3 indefinitely with no penalty (which is probably why they are listed as 3 characters on the website).
Armada played Ivysaur pretty much exclusively when he was using Pokémon Trainer (only switching to Squirtle once for a little bit) in the tournament.
@Mr_Pepperami I feel in 76's case the always online aspect might be the reason we're not seeing it rather than a hardware issue. It seems like all of the multiplayer games from Nintendo right now are using p2p for their online interactions and I'm guessing Bethesda wants to use servers (and preferably not their own).
@TreonsRealm They're probably contracted to use the app.
It was certainly a poor idea to begin with, but once the contract was signed and actual work completed on it, they are probably tied to the terms (which may include some exclusivity clauses for their own games).
The actual online dev probably has all of the power now with the signed contract (ie scrapping one part may result in the dev scrapping all of it). Paying off such a contract "could" work but would warrant that a Plan B had been set up rather than all the work being offloaded onto someone else.
This is all speculation though as we don't actually have access to the terms.
@Mr_Pepperami I'm not surprised. They preemptively announced stuff last year before it was ready. It's the same problem that Sony had at their conference as well. Mostly trailers for stuff that was known.
Only Microsoft had a ton of new things to announce but then again their presentation last year was pretty abysmal.
@Jeronan They cannot do that though. Nintendo mentioned this last year actually. They were having trouble getting a big supply of cards from any one supplier and had to source from multiple companies.
That will definitely jack up the prices. Also, coming off of a rather terrible console generation that probably would have made them more than a little hesitant to eat the cost of the media for developers.
We probably won't see prices return to normality until sometime next year since shortages are forecasted well into this year. Part of the reason why it's taking so long is the manufacturers are concerned about "oversaturating" the market (which would cause a crash in prices).
@Damo Did they mention the underclocking on the Switch (video is blocked for me)? It could potentially create a problem since that would make the hardware weaker than the shield would it not?

@aaronsullivan The pros are on record for saying that the game plays very differently from 4.
Would certainly explain why they were making a ton of mistakes (mostly related to the new dodging mechanics) and why they were playing a lot safer than usual. Even in the finals there were a plenty of missed grabs that could have been punished.
Also, I think the word you may be looking for is homage. It's kind of like all MH Gen and MH XX are homages/loveletters to the older MH games.
Re: Sony's Share Value Takes A Hit Following Fortnite Account Woes On Nintendo Switch
@HappyRusevDay So it started as a 30FPS game as well on the PS4?
I wouldn't be surprised if it gets an update later on for this since we've already seen some games get performance improvements in later patches (like Rocket League).
Re: Gallery: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Full Character Roster
Re: Switch eShop Listing Suggests Yoshi For Nintendo Switch Has Been Delayed To 2019
@Mr_Pepperami I feel in 76's case the always online aspect might be the reason we're not seeing it rather than a hardware issue. It seems like all of the multiplayer games from Nintendo right now are using p2p for their online interactions and I'm guessing Bethesda wants to use servers (and preferably not their own).
Re: Here's How Voice Chat Works In Fortnite On Nintendo Switch
@TreonsRealm They're probably contracted to use the app.
It was certainly a poor idea to begin with, but once the contract was signed and actual work completed on it, they are probably tied to the terms (which may include some exclusivity clauses for their own games).
The actual online dev probably has all of the power now with the signed contract (ie scrapping one part may result in the dev scrapping all of it). Paying off such a contract "could" work but would warrant that a Plan B had been set up rather than all the work being offloaded onto someone else.
This is all speculation though as we don't actually have access to the terms.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Unveiled For Switch, Every Previous Character Returns
Re: Konami Is Resurrecting Hyper Sports For The Nintendo Switch
@Haywired Well there are competitive games where you just get eaten alive if you don't use motion control (see Splatoon 2)
Re: Ubisoft Collaborating With Virtuos For The Switch Version Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas
Re: Just How Good Is The Nvidia Shield Wii Emulator, And What Does It Mean For Switch Owners?
@ThanosReXXX Maybe they can reduce resolution since it seems like these games are being rendered at a higher resolution than on the original platform.
Some GameCube software would be nice. There's ton of stuff haven't gotten around to especially some of the rarer games.
Re: Just How Good Is The Nvidia Shield Wii Emulator, And What Does It Mean For Switch Owners?
@Damo Did they mention the underclocking on the Switch (video is blocked for me)? It could potentially create a problem since that would make the hardware weaker than the shield would it not?
@ThanosReXXX What are your thoughts on this?
