Kirby will be the next 1M seller on Switch.
Yeah Kirby will hit 1m worldwide no doubt.
Always a solid seller for Nintendo
Kirby Star Allies is the 3rd fastest-selling Kirby game and the 4th fastest-selling Switch game. It had a better debut than last year's Zelda BOTW.
The Splatoon juggernaut keeps rolling on
It's such a fun game and lot's to do after you beat the story mode. The end boss is one of the most epic end boss battles I've eve played.
@westman98 Well yeah, I hope it sold faster than BOTW so far because back then people couldn't get a Switch
200K+ in Kirby's first week in Japan is very impressive.
I didn't know Kirby was that popular in Japan. I personally loved this installment though so I'd say it was well deserved.
@Anti-Matter Don't insult the sheetoboxo.
@Expa0 It could also be that there's less of a stigma for easy and cute games in Japan.
Anyone know what planet robobots numbers were in its first week. Just wondering if it did better
Good numbers
Lots of very disappointed people on here I imagine, reckoned Kirby wouldn't do anything. Great stuff.
not surprised - Nintendo can sell just about anything they make to some of their base regardless of actual quality (Even ARMS sold well). it is like Halo on xBox here in the states.
AOT 1 week #1
[PSV] Attack on Titan – 62,111
[PS4] Attack on Titan – 61,156
AOT2 week #1
3 [PS4] Attack on Titan 2 - 28,480
4 [Switch] Attack on Titan 2 – 22,941
what you get when half your ."new game" is just rehashed from the original game. thankfully for those of us with more selective taste Ninokuni 2 and Alliance Alive are just a few days away.
I'm honestly a little surprised at how poorly Mario + Rabbids seems to be selling over there.
@Rika_Yoshitake Numbers will drop off a cliff next week.
@Agramonte "Can sell just about anything to their base"
Did you SEE 2016?
Everyone is doing great. Huzzah!
@Agramonte You’re implying ARMS isn’t a quality game? Those who actually played it for any length of time (critics included) would disagree with you.
@Biff_ARMStrong
Japan isn't America; Zelda Breath of the Wild didn't attain some crazy 100%+ attach rate in Japan. There were plenty of people who bought a Switch during its launch month who didn't buy Zelda.
@YummyHappyPills
Yeah, the idea that Nintendo fans will gobble up anything Nintendo throws out is ludicrous. 2016 saw both Star Fox and Paper Mario witness record-low sales for their respective franchises.
Sounds like someone is salty a new Kirby game sold like...previous Kirby games...
@westman98 And Pokken, and amiibo Festival, heck go back to 2015 and see other games flop like Mario Party, Federation Force....
@YummyHappyPills
Pokken sold quite well. But yeah, the other games you mentioned bombed hard.
@Agramonte er do wanna explain how the Wii U bombed hardware and software so hard if Nintendo can sell anything to their fan base?
Sounds like you just bitter that Kirby has sold well
Not sure why we have surprised people that Kirby did well. The games always sell well and have legs. It will slowly cross over a million easily. Even is North America the game will accumulate sales for the next year or two. Slow and steady.
Not sure why people are surprised that Kirby did well. The game will easily cross a million. Kirby has always been about slow and steady sales even in North America.
@Agramonte Yeah I'm pretty mad about that actually. The first game was fine on PS4, and I enjoyed it for what it was. So I was kind of looking forward to the second game on Switch, but finding out that it's basically just season 1 AGAIN, with a little bit of season 2 REALLY makes the game a hard pass for me, even with it's improved features. Why they decided to do season 1 again is beyond me. Attack on Titan deserves better.
Did the Splatoon 2 Starter edition release last week in Japan like it did in the West? That would help explain the bump in sales.
Was Kirby the normal ~$60 in Japan or did they sell it closer to ~$40? A good first week either way.
@rjejr
From looking at Amazon Japan Kirby seems to be full price. Pretty much the same as Splatoon 2 and Mario anyway.
I bought Attack On Titan 2 for Switch.
Never played any of the games before, never seen the anime (never watched an anime before) and...
I like it! It's actually a really good game. Love the art direction.
@JaxonH I've heard it's actually worse than the first one. And I think that one was a weird musou hybrid clone from what I've seen. Maybe because the story is almost the same as the first one, so many people didn't like playing through the same thing again.
It's also the one with the character creation, right?
You should watch the anime though.
@electrolite77 Thanks for the Kirby price. I guess Kirby full price looked really good after 1 2 Switch at full price.
I'm in world 3 playing with my 2 sons and while it's fun and looks good it feels like it's almost over, in which case I'll be tempted to trade it in for Labo. 4 worlds. Who puts out a $60 game w/ only 4 worlds? I thought there was some Nintendo rule that all of these games have 7 or 8 worlds, not 4. Four is lame. I know there is a lot of other content but still, only 4 feels about as fulfilling as that 10 minute Nindie Direct.
Impressive first week numbers for Kirby, I'm sure it topped a recent poll in Famitsu, might have been regarding what up and coming Switch games people are looking forward to but don't quote me on that.
The world's most powerful console is still propping up the rear as well I see...what's the matter with the Japanese? Don't they read the comments on this site? Power is everything!
Edit: Here's where I saw it - https://www.gonintendo.com/stories/304424-famitsu-poll-shows-what-games-switch-owners-plan-to-buy-and-whic
@Octane
Most complaints I've heard is because it retreads season 1 also.
But as someone who's never played the first or seen the show, I'm sure it's a superior game. I've been told a number of issues have been remedied.
It's fun though, swinging around like Spider-Man attacking Titans.
@JaxonH That's good to hear. Yeah, the gameplay itself looks fun. I'm always a fan of games where I get to swing and fly around. Maybe I should give this a try sometime later this year...
@LUIGITORNADO
"_____ will fall off a cliff when _____" is my favorite flavor of salt.
Glad to see Kirby debut so well, that's Monster Hunter levels of sales. I didn't realize Kirby was a system seller but I guess he is! Or at least he's a tipping point. He'll hit 1m WW by June 30th financial meeting to be sure. How did he sell in US? Pretty solid numbers as well I imagine. He has to be close to 500K WW already if he did 222K in Japan only. Go Kirby!
Awesome for Kirby. I love it and good going Switch.
15./14. [NSW] Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 for Nintendo Switch <FTG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2017.09.07} (¥6.800) - 4.512 / 114.728 (+20%)
This train will not be stopped.
@rjejr Just wait for world 4, it's like 3 worlds in one.
I'll finally be picking up a switch next pay period. I plan on getting the system, a micro sd card, kirby star allies, and a pro controller
Could someone please suggest 2 eshop titles (excluding shovel knight since I own it already) and 2 retail titles I should buy?
@westman98 it will be interesting to see the trolls on this site when NL posts the NPD results. They'll suddenly reappear.
Has a Kirby game ever debut with such height numbers?
@ThePoochyKid world 4, it's like 3 worlds in one
Well that would make it like 6 worlds, which still seems a little short to me. I don't mind short, but not for $60. That's one of the problems with modern gaming. $60 gets you Zelda BotW, Horizon Zero Dawn or a few hours with Kirby. The more I play it and look at it the more it feels like a $40 title. Though in fairness I feel that way about a lot of short 2D platformers.
Thanks for the heads up though, makes me feel like we still have a few hours left at least, I was afraid next time we played it, the 3rd time, we'd be done. Maybe it will at least take 4 or 5 times now.
There is a very likely shot that Kirby Star Allies could become the 2nd best-selling game in the series, behind the original Kirby's Dream Land. Great launch sales in Japan + record-breaking launch sales in the UK is a pretty good sign for other territories where numbers aren't yet available.
@rjejr Don't forget Guest Star Mode, it's incredibly fun to speedrun it, and The Ultimate Choice. Even post-game, there's a lot of content to check out.
@NinjaWaddleDee I think once the price drops this will do better. I mean for everyone who didn't play the first one it will not matter I guess. Really surprised they decided to do this - yeah it does.

@outsider83 pretty sure triple deluxe on 3DS sold more in first week.
Splatoon 2 is not dropping off the charts in Japan lol. It will still be on the charts by the time the 3rd one comes out.
@ThePoochyKid Not sure I'd enjoy guest star mode as I've only been playing as King Dedede as it is. And I've never ever been a speed runner in all my years of gaming. I play once, gather what I can, then move on to the next game.
I do hope my kids will get a lot of use out of the extra modes once we're finished playing thru the story, but the story still seems short for a $60 game. All of the previous 2D platformers, DK, Yoshi, Mario, always seem to have a enough worlds to make the single player seem worthwhile.
@kobashi100
Triple Deluxe sold around 214,000 units at launch. Star Allies beat that by a bit.
Digital sales aren't accounted for in any of these figures; I'm fairly certain Star Allies has sold much, much more than Triple Deluxe on the eShop.
@Expa0,
I knew. That's why they are churning Kirby games out one after another lately. Its huuuugggge in Japan!
