Re: Nintendo Addresses the Question of Link's Green Tunic in Breath of the Wild

Ernest_The_Crab

I figured it would probably be in the game. Probably give a hefty stat bonus seeing as it IS the hero's clothing. I wonder if you can play the game with no clothing (so no stat bonuses), would probably be entertaining to watch to say the least. Might be more Dark Souls-ish since you'd have to rely on dodging at that point (which should be fine with the smaller hit boxes now).

@DiscoGentleman Happy Birthday! I baked you a cake but then I got hungry unfortunately...

Re: Video: Check Out The Profile And Mii Options On Nintendo Switch

Ernest_The_Crab

@memoryman3 Uh...this is right in the article:

"We already knew that Miis would be optional with Switch, and that Nintendo was introducing an avatar system similar to that seen on Sony's PS4, where images of famous characters can be used as your profile pic."

@Damo I hate to ask you to do this Damien, but could you put in more links in articles? It's just too many people are jumping the gun on any "news" and forget previous confirmations (or don't read the articles). Having the links there will make things like the quote from above more visible and will have the added benefit of adding some extra heft behind the article's content.

Ernest_The_Crab

@Damo I will take 50 of those beans off your hands if they grow into magical flying plants that lead me to out of the way locations with shiny heart-shaped jewels.

@JaxonH I think on the UI article a bunch of Playstation owners were talking about how purchases were tied to hardware as well, just it was less annoying to transfer between consoles.

Re: Random: Digital Version Of 1-2-Switch Listed For Just £1.99 On Amazon

Ernest_The_Crab

@Dakt That and games from Europe generally have more language options compared to that of NA.

@Mellor2000 Amazon is probably concerned if they honour it people will complain and they will get some bad publicity if they don't honour it for everyone. That in turn would cause some additional issues if people outside of Europe try to rush that offer as well.

EDIT: Nevermind it seems that you can't order it from the US.

Re: Video: Nintendo Switch User Interface Shown Off In Leaked Footage

Ernest_The_Crab

@LegendOfPokemon Because this is prior to launch? Why would they say anything yet especially if it IS ready by launch?

This console is from someone that has it more than 2 weeks early. They wouldn't enable eShop functionality before launch, that would be silly.

It's just a tiny bit of code change to enable/disable the connection to eShop (or any online connection for that matter as long as it's not p2p). It means that the connection is disabled and NOTHING else. You're looking way too deeply into this.

Re: Video: Eurogamer Explores Nintendo's Historical Link With Gambling And The Yakuza

Ernest_The_Crab

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's an issue with gacha based games in general.

This is actually rather tame compared to other gacha based games, like say Granblue for example. I remember there was a guy that spent well over $6,000 trying to roll for something in Granblue. It has to be said, at the very least Fire Emblem doesn't have any limited/restricted characters, unlike ALOT of other gacha games.

Puzzle and Dragons has Godfest exclusives (during the period they are active[normally you can't roll for them] you can STILL roll regular stuff) and seasonal/themed collabs which only come around infrequently (with very poor rates for anything rare, even worse than rolling the normal machine). Doesn't also help that stone prices are HUGELY inflated in NA compared to the prices in Japan (almost double from what exchange really would be like).

Granblue has some "godfest" exclusives that work the same way as well. The problem though is that seasonal collabs in this case are NOT separated from the regular machine (unlike Puzzle and Dragons). They also had creatures that can only be rolled in a CERTAIN YEAR. And don't get me started on them "nerfing" gacha creatures.

Re: Talking Point: The DLC Expansion Pass for Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Both Surprising and Inevitable

Ernest_The_Crab

@SpentAllMyTokens It would certainly explain why it would take so long for them to release the first pack if it was a Master Quest variant. That would require reworking dungeons and puzzles (effectively making a new game, but faster since all of the resources are complete at that point).

A simple difficulty change like "take more damage" and "no heart spawns" would take nowhere that long to implement (especially from experienced programmers).

Re: Eiji Aonuma Wants an 'Evolved 2D Style' From His Legend of Zelda Handheld Dev Team

Ernest_The_Crab

@Not_Soos Well it's not like that hasn't happened before. When NSMB U came out it was the same price as Super Mario 3D World when that released. Of course, NSMB U price dropped a bit by then but they were still priced the same at their respective releases.

@Spoony_Tech Actually, it sounds more like they plan on making a 2D Zelda on Switch with the 3DS team.

Hm...I wouldn't be too surprised if they manage to extend the battery life with games like this which would have a more portable aspect to them (possibly less draining on the console).

Re: Editorial: 'NX' Development Documentation Gives Few New Insights, But The Leak is Far From Ideal

Ernest_The_Crab

@Mogster So you're saying then it's alright for say a popular RPG series new entry's entire plot to be leaked, everything down to the dialogue involved, before the game is put out?

I can say a TON of people would lynch said person if that happened.

It's entirely possible for a manufacturer to want to hide details for a surprise (could be additional functionality added later that could be implemented using some of the hardware components). Not necessarily the case in THIS example but entirely possible nonetheless.

@electrolite77 Oh so it's misused exactly the same way as the SJW term.

Re: Tatsumi Kimishima Outlines His Nintendo Targets, Laying the Groundwork for a Successor

Ernest_The_Crab

@gatorboi352 It's not a good assumption to make for sure.

However, unless we consider the Virtual Boy a portable (it really isn't) all main Nintendo portable lines have sold more than 50mil units. Even the 3DS, which had a rather rough start is well beyond the 50mil mark now.

He's not exactly wrong per se but in the Switch's case it's really going to end up being a matter of perception in the market (is it a portable or is it a console). And frankly, Sony has already shown us that it's entirely possible for a portable to never even remotely reach the 50mil mark.

Re: Here's What the "R" in Super Bomberman R Means

Ernest_The_Crab

@kevfrei He has the potential for a very diverse moveset (hence why I voted for him way back during the Smash Ballot).

He's had elemental bombs, giant bombs (which could be used as a form of charged attack), multiple vehicles (jetpacks, submarines, etc), animal friends, whips, etc.

They can even reference his N64 days by making him able to bounce off of his bombs.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Pricing Range for Switch Online Service

Ernest_The_Crab

So that means in the States it'll translate to somewhere between $20 and $30 if we base it on how the Switch was priced in the US and Japan. Hm...that's interesting the minimum was the same as what I was predicting. I'm guessing they want to gauge the price level that consumers are willing to pay after having owned the Switch for a couple of months (since they start charging in Fall).

@Mogster Sounds like Europe gets the raw end of the deal if that's the case. If we go by the actual prices of the Switch in the different regions the Switch fee will be half (at bare minimum as it can still be lower since 30,000 yen is the max price) of that of the PSN fee in the US. Sounds like more of an issue with NoE pricing.

@ElementSponge Probably be a bit more expensive since our pricing for games generally reflects the exchange rate at the time when the game was released. Unfortunately, our exchange rate is pretty bad right now though. Looking at a PSN 12 month membership, that costs about $7 more here than in the States.

Re: 3DS Titles Pushed Down by New Releases in Japanese Charts

Ernest_The_Crab

@gatorboi352 I still feel that Wii U despite not doing spectacular could have still done pretty well if they had gotten their act together with their marketing.

Decent/good/excellent marketing would have drawn in much better sales numbers which in turn would have pulled in 3rd parties. It's rather unfortunate they screwed up the marketing from the get-go, never managed to fix it either.

Re: 3DS Titles Pushed Down by New Releases in Japanese Charts

Ernest_The_Crab

@gatorboi352 Then again Wii was different too and it ended up outselling both rivals by a considerable amount.

It's not really the "different" aspect that's the issue here. The Wii U had a host of other problems (the worst definitely being a very bad marketing campaign, even Nintendo didn't seem to know what it was).

Re: Nintendo Switch Developer Options Menu Appears In Unedited Portuguese Commercial

Ernest_The_Crab

@duffmmann You're comparing using that of a standard HDD to an SSD (not to mention a HDD that's been proven to be slower than most PC based HDDs). If they really wanted to nickel and dime us directly they could have taken the Vita route where there's only pricey proprietary options.

That being said, I doubt that the "storage" space was ever really intended to be used for games otherwise they would have emphasized that more. It's main purpose is most likely for the console operating system and updates to ensure that the console runs fast. They didn't use a smaller size most likely cause no manufacturer would offer such a small size at an affordable cost so they opted for a larger one and allowed people to save/download to it (being a secondary purpose).

Re: Nintendo Switch Developer Options Menu Appears In Unedited Portuguese Commercial

Ernest_The_Crab

@duffmmann Actually quite a bit of money. The drive in the Switch is a solid state, those are generally much more expensive than a disk drive (though much faster).

Actually, it would really depend on how good of a deal they could get on larger solid state drives (that's debatable especially since it's not like they are in a good position to negotiate with larger "partners"). As an aside, size might be an issue. I have a solid state in my laptop but that's a device that's actually thicker than the Switch itself.

Also, everyone clamouring for a HDD rather than a SSD, that would contribute considerably to the size and weight of the Switch itself (to the point where it wouldn't really be "portable" anymore). Putting it into the base doesn't make much sense either since you wouldn't be able to access it while playing it as a portable.

Re: Hori Range of Nintendo Switch Accessories, Including LAN Adapter, Arrives on Amazon UK

Ernest_The_Crab

@Discostew I think it supported both 1.1 and 2.0 actually.

@kamikazilucas So how would it have fit in a console that size? The smallest Ethernet adaptor for the Wii and the Wii U is already a couple of times thicker than the console itself. If the intention is to put it in the base, not enough people would use the base anyways as the console is perceived as a portable at the moment.

Also, the Vita did not have an Ethernet port. The Vita is also going to be the device that draws the most number of comparisons, as yet again, the public is viewing the Switch as a portable.
