@gatorboi352 How well would that work though? We don't have the second screen so I don't think the impact from a survival horror perspective would be there (since you have to manage things in real time like rummaging through a bag).
Well hopefully, they can patch split tv, portable support in at some point. Especially, if Nintendo plans on making another "Maker " style game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They said quite soon so that would be within a year, I think? If we see another Just Dance game (which is highly likely), it would be October at the earliest (over a year from now). I think some of the likely candidates are the following:
-new Rayman (haven't seen him in a little while and there's already an engine created for the series)
-Assassin's Creed (annual release schedule and quite frankly they got it to work on the Wii U despite the bigger difference in architecture).
-Splinter Cell (due for a new game and had games on both the Wii and Wii U)
-Watchdogs 3 (?) (if Ubisoft is indeed trying to sell that series annually we might see this, especially since they still managed to bring out a Wii U version, despite the technical and hardware issues)
@roadrunner343 I feel the same way. Back when I played Melee, during my high school days, I had a ton of time and so did my buddies. There wasn't much distracting me from learning to play competitively and energy was never an issue back then.
Nowadays, with everyone having to work, overall Smash Wii U has been a godsend since no one in this group of friends really has the time or energy to play competitively.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm guessing it's due to it being the first day. Over here in NA we don't really have much in gaming sales for Amazon pertaining to the Prime sale, so far, other than the Nintendo 3DS (and no other gaming stuff not even from Microsoft or Sony).
Sony's listed headphones are just multimedia since they don't mention that it's specifically for or tailored towards gaming.
Slim pickings in general for both regions it seems.
@antdickens Do any of you have access to a Canadian Prime account? I find that quite often Canada has different sales than US for Amazon. They generally don't overlap (like that Splatoon 2 sale).
@rjejr Yeah, Splatnet 2 is part of the base Nintendo app. Any future Nintendo online game will probably just add additional sections to the app. Could get really messy to navigate if a ton of online games get sections (especially if 3rd parties also use the app instead of making their own).
@memoryman3 I'm kind of interested on Nintendo's take on Sonic if they were given control for a game. Nintendo has done a lot of different platformers with varying gameplay styles so I'm curious to see if they'd be able to make a good 3D Sonic game.
Maybe in exchange for SEGA developing another F-Zero game XD
EDIT: I think Volition might be able to do a decent take on Sonic after playing Saints Row 4. Super speed was actually pretty fun in that game (especially since you can also run up walls and across water). It would be a great way to keep the game fast paced when you can simply run up obstacles. With 3D Sonic they might be better off going with a mission based open world style that's a bit more forgiving than 2006 when it comes to maintaining speed and navigating obstacles.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Since no one has answered your question yet, the total file size for the first Splatoon was around:
1,812MB (base game)+763MB (updates) = 2,575MB or 2.515GB
Apparently, most of the game's "DLCs" were already on the disc and Nintendo simply unlocked them as time passed to help pace content. The updates were mostly to make modifications to the maps.
It looks like Splatoon 2 isn't much bigger but we don't know as of this moment, if Nintendo will have the same treatment for Splatoon 2 as they had for the original.
@abe_hikura I was thinking that as well. Or maybe have a built in slot on the headset for the phone? With this method you can bypass the connector box as well. Then the headset can be plugged into the console directly?
@RupeeClock I feel spinning the gym icon is the biggest thing for me out of this patch. My area has a lot more gyms than PokeStops so it's been a bit of a struggle to get items.
@Zyph Looks like a X and XX situation. Not a spinoff but not a flagship title either. Also, an estimated 1.5 million sales? That's a terrible sales number for mainline MH games. MH X sold more than double that as a non-flagship title.
The most telling aspect though is that it wasn't announced during a Japan-centric event. The biggest market (by far) for the series is the Japanese, specifically portable part of that market. It's clear they're targeting people that normally wouldn't buy MH. I can see if this does well, that Capcom will start making flagship titles for other consoles to capitalize on the newer Western MH fans though.
@Krillin Zelda isn't as big in Japan as it is in the West. Same with Metroid. Mario Kart on the other hand is a pretty big seller in Japan (like most mini-game/party type games).
BotW is doing better in Japan than some of its predecessors though. Twilight Princess on the Wii (Gamecube sales were negligible in comparison) only sold about 600k lifetime units in Japan and Skyward Sword 370k.
It's getting pretty close to Twilight Princess sales (and surpassed Skyward Sword already) for being on a console that's out of stock in Japan, with a smaller player base and rather early in its lifespan.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Attach rate I can see being true. The Wii had a fairly poor attach rate if I remember right. Something about how more casual gamers weren't purchasing too many games. The Switch has the better attach rate aspect going for it since it seems to attract more of the semi-casual (for example people that stopped gaming for awhile or left due to the Wii/Wii U era) and core audience than Wii did.
Profitability will definitely be tough to beat let alone meet. The Wii was sold at a pretty good profit at launch. From my understanding the Switch is also at a profit but not a very big one (and possibly eroded by the need to fly in additional consoles to meet demand in NA and Japan). Its software sales would have to be incredible in order to even get close to Wii profitability.
@Spoony_Tech Might be okay depending on when the game comes out if it is a mainline game (especially if it's a new one).
Pokémon S and M was announced last year in February and ended up coming out in November. A new game could potentially be announced today and released next year in March. I don't believe that would impact the stock situation too much. Now if it's announced for this year that could be a huge problem.
That's providing that we get a new game announcement. For all we know it could just be all spinoffs announced or 3DS only new game.
@BinaryFragger Doesn't PS+ only give access to certain games per month?
From my understanding here, Nintendo's new service gives you access to a library that they add more games to rather than remove them. It sounds like Nintendo's old planned service is closer to PS+ than the new service.
Nintendo has decided to opt for an always available library of VC games to play as long as you keep renewing your subscription. Will have online for some of these games.
Now if only they could make voice chat less funky or implement a web browser so we can use Discord.
@SwitchVogel You might want to mention this in the article.
@Caryslan I'm guessing @SLIGEACH_EIRE is referring to the people that only buy one fighting game for their consoles. If they had to choose between Smash Bros or ARMS the likelihood of them choosing Smash Bros is probably pretty high.
In that scenario, it would be better for them to announce Smash Bros. after ARMS has gotten a chance to build up its community and fanbase.
I don't really have a lot of money to spend on games right now so I normally have to pick and choose what I want to play.
@Dakt Or it could be that MHGen didn't do as well due to the hunter styles being added (and the lack of balance of hunter arts), no G rank, no story coming off of MH4's much better storyline approach and essentially rehashing all of the old regions from past games?
On the actual MH forums those are by far the biggest complaints about MHGen. Home console complaints are minimal in comparison.
Also, doesn't help that it isn't considered a numbered title by the MH fans.
EDIT: Looks like I incorrectly remembered the sales numbers.
@Krillin It's a year and half old if you meant a port of MH X. It's more like 2 months old if you meant a port of MH XX (which is an expanded version of MH X) from the 3DS.
Nintendo normally does the publishing for regions outside of Japan for the MH series (same with Dragon Quest). I wouldn't be surprised if only Japan gets a release of MH5 for PS4 and Switch gets it for all regions (due to Nintendo publishing it).
@rjejr Well really complaints for paid online in general will be negative when talking on online forums.
A good chunk of gamers that comment online have access to Steam, where most games have free online. And frankly none of these paid online services really holds a candle to a free service.
That's not going to stop the console makers from charging for online though since there's always going to be someone supporting the paid online services.
@RedMageLanakyn My understanding is that a lot of people got hyped for Zelda but couldn't manage to find a Switch (at or near launch) and simply bought the game in anticipation of getting the console. I actually know some people that did that. That's at least another million potential sales just based off of only Zelda. Nintendo really needs to get their stock issues fixed.
@Sligeach_eire I wouldn't put too much stock into Metacritic user reviews if I were you. A quick look at BotW's user reviews will easily give you the understanding you need (especially since you love the game too).
@Hirsbrunner The problem I feel is that one of the fathers of Samus is dead (a long time ago) and the other one doesn't really care about her.
Miyamoto has worked with the Metroid IP (he started up the Prime series) but I don't think he really considers her to be one of his "children" (like Mario and Link).
Kirby is also Hal's mascot character, whom Iwata himself worked at before becoming president, so there's plenty of significance there as well. If I remember right Iwata, Miyamoto and Sakurai were also big fans of the Kirby character.
@FTPinkRabbit From my understanding, Nintendo did some future proofing for Switch storage. It supposedly supports up to 2TB microsd (which don't really exist yet).
@memoryman3 It's understandable for Zelda for the Switch to heat up.
For a game like Lego City that came out 4 years ago on the Wii U, I find it really hard to believe that it would be "reasonable" for it to use up all of the console's resources and heat up that much. That sounds more like a bad port job.
Then again, I've been hearing there are some technical issues on pretty much all of the platforms for this game. Especially, on PC, which is most powerful platform of the bunch.
@sillygostly It also helps increase exposure for Indies by having physical, recognizable merchandise that would have decent shelf space in stores.
Also, another benefit Nintendo would get is that regular consumers would start tying the Indies in with Nintendo since Amiibos are an inherently Nintendo collectible. This could increase sales of said indie games on Nintendo platforms and potentially push hardware sales.
@Captain_Gonru

Unfortunately, as much as I have loved the first game, none of the main games have really sold very well.
@Jhena Well most of the stuff you mentioned liking is stuff that Square did not have full control of (Eidos has little interference on Deus Ex and TWEWY was co-developed).
I prefer the days when Square and Enix were still separate developers.
@Jhena Well only The World Ends with You and Deus Ex can be considered internally developed by Square since Eidos is now owned by Square and TWEWY had some development done by them.
Nier 1 was developed by a studio that's now part of Marvelous and Nier 2 was developed by PlatinumGames.
Square seems more content nowadays to outsource stuff rather than develop their IPs internally.
@Yasume I'm not so sure about that since Zelda is on that list.
It's more of an issue specifically regarding price and the digital-only content.
Snake Pass is relatively cheap for an eShop game (not going to do a quality/price comparison since that is extremely subjective), is very recent, and is download-only. The numbers are going to be skewed.
Also, I'm not sure too many people would actually download Zelda vs physical considering the size of the game and the additional invest in SD cards.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Frankly, I don't think adding a couple of stages and characters will really boost sales all that much. In all likelihood, it would probably take the addition of a couple modes before it'll be remotely near worth its asking price.
@Joeynator3000 There is now an additional log holding up the roof of each stable.
We hope the horses will now be less spooked by the creaking noise from the structure.
@Kogorn733 Some of their studios do, do proper patch notes, others don't. It's not consistent between the studios. Not surprising since they usually are given some freedom in their policies (check dlc treatments from each studio, it's striking to see a comparison between Animal Crossing/Splatoon vs Fire Emblem/Smash Bros).
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'd say a bigger difference would be how good a developer is at optimization. Sumo is one of the better companies at optimization (see Sonic All-Stars Racing Wii U). We'll probably see a much bigger difference from companies notoriously bad at optimization. Bethesda's Skyrim will probably give us a real good idea at that point.

Re: Splatoon 2's Next Splatfest Tackles A Challenging Choice Of Condiments
Mayo should win hands down. In terms of actual condiment sales (in the US) it outsells ketchup 2:1.
However, this isn't factoring in the popularity of the different representatives. It could be close given how popular Marina is.
Re: Nyko's Clip Grip Power Is The Perfect Partner For The Nintendo Switch Online App
@Kiz3000 Yeah, being an extra battery/charging source and capable of storing games for on the go, alone make this seem worthwhile to me.
It's also cheaper than Nintendo's own charging grip (which doesn't have a battery unlike this one).
It was nice of them to throw in the phone stand as well (it's detachable by the way).
@rjejr It also has its own battery and a charging cable. It's A LOT better value than Nintendo's charging grip with just the additional battery alone.

Re: Video: Here's How Switch Snake Pass Compares To The PlayStation 4 Version
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'd say a bigger difference would be how good a developer is at optimization. Sumo is one of the better companies at optimization (see Sonic All-Stars Racing Wii U). We'll probably see a much bigger difference from companies notoriously bad at optimization. Bethesda's Skyrim will probably give us a real good idea at that point.
Re: Nintendo of America Says to Check Retailers as More Switch Stock is On the Way
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Out of curiosity, has Nintendo ever had a presence in Ireland?
