I think its also fair to consider that there were 20 something games that all came out on the same day as people were purchasing the system. To me it doesn't seem surprising that most people were buying the system for exclusives like Mario Kart and may have not been able to afford multiple other games to go with it right away. It might have been wiser to spread out some of these games as to not be competing for both attention and dollars with so many other titles.
I gotta be honest, this sounds pretty.... much exactly like what we have been seeing on several primarily third party games that are just too large and cost prohibitive to put on cartridge. It just sounds like Nintendo is giving the practice a fancy name and clear labeling. Functionally, though, how is this any different from games like the Batman Arkham Trilogy (Asylum on cart, and City and Knight were downloads tied to the cart). While I don't love this, it isn't anything new at all.
There are many games that I will think of when I look back at the Switch era. Playing Mario Kart 8, Smash and Pokemon with my closest friends. The countless hours I sank into Monster Hunter Rise. Even though I wasn't personally huge on them, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were amazing in games and technical feats.
But for me the single game that defined the generation was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, not because it was my most played or favorite game on Switch (Monster Hunter Rise holds both of those titles for me personally). Rather, Skyrim was the game that showed that we were seeing a much different Nintendo from what we had before. Nintendo was embracing and actively working with 3rd parties and 3rd party studios brought a ton of great games to the platform.
I think when I look back at the Switch, I am going to remember that feeling of thinking that "I would never expect X game to be playable on a Nintendo system, let alone a handheld, yet here it is."
I loved MMPR growing up. So far, I think the game is solid, but it definitely has some issues with some insane difficulty spikes. I consider myself decently skilled at most games, but there have been several areas where the difficulty seems to spike out of nowhere. The zord levels are probably the worst offenders as they are incredibly chaotic even on easy mode, but the final stage of the Bones boss fight is also fairly frustrating as you are tasked with fighting an incredibly small target that zips around the screen at speeds far beyond what your ranger can move at. It's not a bad game overall, as most of the time it is really tight and fun, but when these spikes come up, they do take away from the experience. I agree with some of the other users here that the game doesn't seem to be balanced for single players at all. I'm currently about 60% through my first playthrough of the game, but so far I would probably give it a 6.5 to a 7.
I think this might be the longest they've been available. I ordered mine about a week and a half ago. It's been great finally getting to experience (and in some cases re-experiance these classics they way they were meant to be played
Honestly, my experience with these has not been bad at all. I currently only installed one of these in one of my joycons, so when I am playing, I am using one standard stick and one Gullikit stick. They do feel a bit different tension wise, but I wouldn't say it feels dramatically different. At least not in my personal experience. The texture of the stick cap is a bit less grippy than the standard Nintendo ones, but it hasn't hampered my gameplay in any real meaningful way. Overall, I don't really have any complaints about them
I had finished two of the divine beasts and several shines, but not much other than that. I should probably try to find time to do some of the rest of it, lol.
The only thing I am left wondering about is whether trades work across different games. Here they demonstrated Fire Red working with another Fire Red, but would it still work connecting Fire Red with lets say Leaf Green?
I will be playing some more Shining Pearl this weekend. I am getting close to the end of the main story, so far I have really enjoyed these games.
I will also be playing some more of Astral Chain. I've been interested in this one for a while, but I just never got around to it. I finally picked it up last week when Gamestop had it on sale for $26. This game is just awesome!
Other than those, I might also dip into a bit of Forza Horizon 5 and Monster Hunter Rise
I have always felt that the $20 membership was justified, even with their lackluster services, as I know that there are costs to keeping these services running. That said, at the moment, I can't justify the cost of this expansion.
The majority of the Genesis games are also included with the Genesis collection that is frequently on sale on the eshop for $15 or less... I bought this collection years ago, so despite loving some of these games, I can already play most of them on my switch.
I am personally not really interested in the AC DLC. For that matter making DLC that requires the purchase of a specific game a major tent pole of the service just feels like an odd choice to me. AC has sold 33 million units, but with over 90 million switch systems in the wild, that still amounts to this being a feature that is only relevant to roughly a third of your potential audience. Even less, when you consider that there are customers like myself who may have purchased AC, but have no interest in returning to it.
I would love to have access to the N64 games, but that alone doesn't justify the $30 price increase for me.
The issue isn't the price itself, it is what you are getting for that price, and, in my opinion, the services and initial line-ups as offered are a hard sell at $50. I'll be keeping my $20 subscription for the time being, until Nintendo can bolster this expansion service with additional titles and benefits to make it worth the price of admission.
Pokemon Sword/Sheild comes to mind. I loved it, but I can definitely see why a lot of people hated these entries for both the creative choices made and the technical shortcomings.
I had this issue last night when I was trying to download Game Builder Garage. I found that if you leave it on the download progress screen it seems to work, but the second you leave that screen to browse the system menus or launch a different game while it downloads, the download would fail.
Yeah I am about the same. There are several games that I think are terrific games, but for one reason or another I just never finished them: BoTW, Dragon Quest XI S, Octopath, Civilization 5 (doesn't really have an ending, but I have always had a hard time going back it it despite really enjoying it), Splatoon 2 and Forza Horizon 4 just to name a few.
I just finished my first playthough yesterday, and while the visual downgrades and issues were certainly noticable, they rarely prevented me from enjoying the game. I will look forward to starting a second playthrough once the patch is live.
I will be playing more Animal Crossing. I will probably also be playing some of the Assassins Creed Rebel Collection and Monster Hunter World on Xbox One.
I have been enjoying the game, although my biggest gripe has been the lack of content. At its core though, it is a really fun game and it runs surprisingly well online and off.
I will play a bit of splatoon for the splat fest (go retro!) and I might dip into a bit of Skyrim. But mostly, I will be playing Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate!
Honestly, I agree with the writer here. World is good, but there is something about the old style that I just love. It's a personal opinon, but as pretty as World is, I just didn't really enjoy my time with it. I missed some of the little quirks of classic monster hunter, like having to plan out when to use your potions because of the animation that went with it. It sounds wierd, but that little bit of strategizing when to use items became part of MH for me. Little things like that made World feel less engaging to me, despite the beautiful visuals and immersive environments. For me, it's not about the platform it's on (although, portability is a huge plus for me personally) it's about the the gameplay, and the old style games were just more fun to me. But again, that's just my opinion.
While I can't imagine there being too many more stages, I think its safe to say there are more than the 103 confirmed ones. Actually, this direct pretty much confirmed that there are more. There are 103 stages on the stage select screen, and yet the monster hunter stage that appears a few minutes later is not represented there. Just based on this direct, there are at least 104 stages in the game.
Yeah, I don't really get all of the doom and gloom either. Sure I would have liked to have seen more out of the direct, but looking at that infographic, there are tons of games to occupy my time. Heck, Monster Hunter by itself could keep me busy until Smash come out. I know people are concerned about next year's lineup, but looking back to this time last year it was about the same. Last year, we didn't know much about how 2018 would play out. The announcements will come in time.
For me I will probably spend most of my weekend gaming time in Skyrim for Switch. I always loved skyrim, but now having that kind of experience everywhere just blows my mind. If I need a break, i'll probably jump into some more of Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Rocket League. Xenoblade looks great, but I think I will pass on it; I have bought the first game, X, and the 3ds remaster, and I always end up getting detracted and loosing interest in them and the combat system has never clicked with me. I think they are great games, but I have accepted that they just aren't for me and I can't force myself to stay engaged with them.
I am loving Odyssey, and am currently working on the post game Moons. At the moment, it feels like it could be my favorite Mario title. That said, I would be interested in seeing how a poll like this would pan out a year from now, after the fervor of Odyssey's release has worn off.
@RupeeClock I got that one too, apparently 51 is a white Wii U and 52 is the black one. I was trying to remember what the fortune was, thanks for sharing that.

Worse, the game is rough around the edges with numerous bugs and glitches like engine noise being sparatically reduced to loud obnoxious buzzing, and one glitch that would cause my steering to get stuck to one side for two to three seconds at a time.
My only problem with the demo being playable only for certain periods. Inevitably people are going to miss out. Personnally I will only be able to play a match or two out of the first session.
