Re: Nintendo Confirms Details of Its Super Smashing eShop Sale

Ecto-1

Definitely nice to see Nintendo giving some nice discounts on these games, especially the full retail titles. If Tomodachi Life gets discounted significantly, I might give it a shot. I'm still very much on the fence with that one, but a good sale might just push me over.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3?

Ecto-1

I felt like the games presented looked great and the presentation (the humor, pacing, ect) was brilliant! That said, there was a reoccuring theme that seemed to run through all three console manufacturer's presentation that I thought was a bit troubling: "coming 2015." From the sounds of it noone is getting too many great exclusives this year.

Re: First Footage of Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire To Air In Japan This Weekend

Ecto-1

@absuplendous

I think the confusion comes from the way the initial announcement described the games. The intial press release described them as a "fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire" and went on to say the games "promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world." The Pokemon website appears to have been edited to sound more like full remakes, but the original description can still be seen here: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/05/pokemon_omega_ruby_and_pokemon_alpha_sapphire_confirmed_for_worldwide_3ds_launch_in_november

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Direct

Ecto-1

I am really hoping for a few more character confirmations (particuarly wanting to hear a confirmation for Captain Falcon), a final title (Fray, Scuffle, Clash, Altercation, Something, Anything), and at least a release target month. Also, a bundle offer would be great. I would really like an offer where you buy one at full price either on the eShop or at retail and you can download the other for a discount (retail includes a promo code).

Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Heading for a Spring 2014 Release

Ecto-1

Hmm... if this is true, 2014 just got even more interesting. I was personally thinking of Smash as a late 2014 if not early 2015 title. If it releases in the spring, I can't help but wonder what else Nintendo has in store for the holiday shopping season next year.

Re: Epic Vice President Mark Rein Remains Unconvinced By Second Screen Gaming

Ecto-1

I kinda agree with this critic. He isn't criticizing the Wii U specifically, just second screen gaming in general. Thus far I haven't seen too much to prove the potential of having two screens on any platform (Except for the DS and 3DS families). So far on Wii U, I haven't seen too much that makes ground breaking use of the gamepad's screen. Nintendoland probably makes the best use of it out of what I have played. In concept, I liked the idea of having a full map on the second screen during multiplayer matches in Call of Duty, but in practice, I am unwilling to risk looking away from the main screen to use it. That scenario describes my experiences with the Wii U's second screen thus far. In some games, it seems to be more useful in some games than others, but few games seem to be necessarily better thanks to it.

That said, I still love the gamepad. I love off-TV play. I like the clever way that the Wii U versions of the Batman: Arkham games channel the sounds from Batman's communication system to the gamepad's speakers. I just haven't played many games that make good use of the gamepad's screen when I am not playing in off-Tv mode.

Re: 3DS XL Coloured Charging Cradles Sold Out On Club Nintendo

Ecto-1

I got the blue one... or at least I hope I did. Yesterday, I got three different confirmation emails with different order numbers. On my CN account it said I had ordered three of them, but I was only charged for one. Today, they canceled two of them, but one of the ones they canceled was the one I paid for.

Re: Rumour: The Year Of Luigi Will Be Rounded Off With A Limited Edition 2DS Console

Ecto-1

Looking at these one of these pictures, I can't help but doubt the authenticity of this. Looking at the picture that shows the back of the system, I can't see the text that is normally on the back of Nintendo's handhelds as well as the serial number label. Why would those be missing? Its a small detail, I know, but its enough to make me doubt that this is real.

Edit: Just noticed there is also a dependency between the system pictured on the box and the actual system itself. Notice that on the system pictured on the box that the bezel around the top screen is white yet the actual system appears to have a black bezel around the top screen.

Re: Pokémon Developers: Paid DLC Could "Ruin The Worldview" of The Franchise

Ecto-1

I don't want to see new pokemon as paid DLC, but I wouldn't mind seeing past regions get offered as reasonably priced DLC. If they offered the classic regions like Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn for our X/Y trainers to explore and battle through for $5 to $10, I'd be more than happy to pay a bit more into a game that has already given me almost 50 hours of gameplay.

Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon

Ecto-1

@Romeo There have been instances in the past in which it was not possible to obtain all forms of a pokemon on a single version of a game. Take for instance Deoxys in generation 3. In that generation, Deoxys' form depended on what version of the game you were playing (Ruby and Sapphire got normal form, FireRed got attack form, LeafGreen got defense form, and Emerald got speed form). There was no way to obtain every form on a single game. Even if you traded one from FireRed to Emerald, it would change from attack form to speed form.

Re: Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank Service Alongside Pokémon X & Y

Ecto-1

I have no issue with them having a subscription based cloud service for storing Pokemon, although I still think it would have been more effective to just store them on the SD card. The reason I say that is that, to my knowledge, they haven't said anything about being able to access your pokemon from a different system. I would assume it probably follows the same setup as the 3DS eShop does, in that it is tied to your console and not a login id. This will be fine (although still not ideal) if you upgrade system and do the system transfer, but if your system is lost or stolen, my assumption is that, just like your eShop data, you loose access to your pokemon. If that is the case, what is the point? If I'm going to loose access to them if my system gets stolen either way, why not just have a more hassle free SD card storage system that I can use regardless of whether I have internet access? I realize that this is just conjecture until Nintendo confirms how the system will work, but based on the way the 3DS' current systems function, I feel my reasoning is sound.

That said, what is really annoying me is that I'll have to use the bank to transfer my old pokemon to the new games.

Re: Nintendo Launching Cloud-Based Pokémon Bank Service Alongside Pokémon X & Y

Ecto-1

@RupeeClock "On top of that this is a middle man, the 3DS is a more than capable system of storing pokémon on internal storage, either by use of an app that stores pokémon on the SD card, or from within Pokémon X/Y itself by expanding box space with the SD card."

This is my biggest problem with this announcement. The idea of using a box to store Pokemon and to handle transfers between games is brilliant and it is something I've wanted for a long time (I even mentioned the idea in the comments section of an article here some time ago). That said, why does it need to go to an online server? Why not just let us store our pokemon on the SD card? Wouldn't that make more sense on a portable system where you may not always have internet access? I think the general concept is great, but it being online feels unnecessary.

Re: Wii U Summer System Update Pushed Back To The Fall

Ecto-1

To my knowledge, Nintendo never said what exactly the summer update would do or how big it would be, so I am not sure where anyone is getting that this is just a minor update and that the "big one" has been delayed. As far as I can tell based on the info I've seen, this is the summer update and they have announced that the next update will be released in late September or early October.

Re: Guide: The Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U Update is Now Live

Ecto-1

I downloaded the update last night and tried a few quests on just the Gamepad. The mirror image of the TV screen threw me as I thought for sure it would automatically revert to a Wii style HUD layout. I had put my entire HUD on the Gamepad as my TV cut off my health bar.

@Einherjar
As far as I can tell, there is no way to change those settings while in Gamepad only mode. I recommend saving your panel layout as a panel set, then creating a second panel set with no panels. That way, you just have to change panel sets before you enable Gamepad only mode.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Pricing Emerges On North American eShop

Ecto-1

Nice, I'll happily take any savings I can get. That said, I don't expect all of Nintendo's first party titles to be priced this way. I think they are picking and choosing certain titles to release at the lower price. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon also released at $34.99 (although the eShop charged more erroneously for a day or two) on the same day that Luigi's Mansion released for the full $39.99.
