Re: Sega Forever Aims To Revive The Company's Past On Mobile, But Could Come To Switch

DragonEleven

It's always possible that they could release it in a free-to-start structure instead... there's a couple of different ways they could do that...
1. One or two full games that are free, with the rest requiring payment to unlock.
2. All games available, but limited to act like a demo... either one level or a time limit... and having to pay to remove the limit.

This way they could still advertise the app as being free to download, but would still be able to make money from it.

Re: Guide: How To Use A GameCube Controller With Your Nintendo Switch

DragonEleven

If they do bring Smash to the Switch, then they would have to include GC controller compatibility, and as they already have the adapter for the Wii U, it would make sense for them to just reuse that... and this basically confirms that it would work... it would just need Nintendo to add the option to the Switch as they have done with the Pokken controller.

I'm guessing the reason they haven't done it already is because the GameCube controller is far more similar to a pro controller, making it a viable alternative controller, and much cheaper than getting a pro controller or an extra set of joy-cons.

Re: The Big Pokémon GO Update is Being Rolled Out Now

DragonEleven

From what I've heard, it's only the android version that's being rolled out at the moment... likely having been pushed out early in order to deal with the PTC login issue that had been keeping a lot of people from playing during the final day of the event (which is also why the event has been extended by 24 hours).

Re: Pokémon GO's Biggest Update Yet Brings Gym Badges, New Items And Raid Battles

DragonEleven

As much as I like just sitting around waiting to earn coins from gyms, this is a much needed improvement, as it forces repeat interactions with a gym in order to maintain it, putting more of a focus on the interactions rather than simply being in possession of a gym.

My only concern comes down to scaling to suit location, particularly in regards to raids... getting enough competent players together in a 5min window in a city would be much easier than in a smaller town... there could easily avoid this issue by auto-scaling the difficulty, but whether or not Niantic would have thought to implement something like this is anyone's guess.

Also... I get the feeling gym badges will be able to be used to feed Pokemon on the matching gym berries remotely... partially compensating for spoofing.

Re: Something Big Is About To Happen To Pokémon GO's Gyms

DragonEleven

This was announced around a week ago... this message is mre of a reminder.

Gyms needed to be sorted out to deal with spoofers... it's too easy for them to dominate all the gyms in an area
We've been fighting back against them in my area and have basically just had to outlast them... they eventually get bored and move on, but do return every so often.
Without them causing problems, gyms aren't too bad... even those full of 3000+CP Pokémon can be taken down with strategy and patience, but most people are happy with the status quo, so just weaken them a bit rather than taking them down completely.
Adding more of a PVP aspect would be great as well... Ingress has a remote recharge feature which makes it a little more PVP-like by allowing you to respond to attackers, and this would help to counteract the spoofers.

Re: PC Game Streaming Service Rainway Confirms Switch As A Supported Platform

DragonEleven

@MarcelRguez I think you misunderstood what was meant about using the web browser... it's not a back door for getting the app onto the Switch... it's an additional hurdle that will need to be dealt with in order to get the app to work, due to the fact that Nintendo are keeping it hidden.
Nintendo could support the app in general, but not allow them to use the web browser.

Re: PC Game Streaming Service Rainway Confirms Switch As A Supported Platform

DragonEleven

I don't see why Nintendo wouldn't allow this... there's no legal issues with it like the other things they've opposed and it would in a way increase the Switch's software library, which they'd probably be happy about.
There would be a slight issue with games available for both PC and Switch, but playing those games through this app wouldn't be optimal, so I doubt they'd have issue with it.
Quality and security would be the only reasons I can think of for Nintendo to possibly oppose it... poor quality would make it unappealing in general, and poor security would just need to be patched to deal with it.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?

DragonEleven

Nintendo have done what they need to... they've established that there is a steady flow of major, minor and third party titles coming to the Switch, drawing interest to those game, while not forgetting about the 3DS.
They've given a lot more detail about games coming by the end of the year, while intentionally keeping info about later releases to a minimum to keep us guessing.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Confirmed For Nintendo Switch, But Retro Studios Isn't Involved

DragonEleven

They have not said that it's not Retro Studios (that's purely assumption), all they've said is that it's a new team... that new team could easily be within Retro Studios.
Retro Studios have basically been putting together a new team over the past few years following a handful of people leaving after the last Prime game... we know that from job postings and reports of people being hired from other studios... so it could easily be this new team who are working on the new game.

Re: A New Pokémon RPG Has Been Confirmed For Development For Nintendo Switch

DragonEleven

My money's still on a spin off in the same vein as Colosseum/XD that they're intending to turn into a second main series of Pokemon games (running alongside the current main series).

Think of it like Mario, Zelda and Metroid... they all have two sets of main series games... Mario and Metroid both have 2D and 3D games, while Zelda has top-down and third-person games.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Ubisoft's Nintendo Switch Reveals at E3 2017?

DragonEleven

I think Nintendo's finally found their golden formula for third parties... the Switch's unique concept that avoids competition with the other consoles is bringing in the multiplatform titles, and their openness to letting third parties use their IPs is bringing in exclusive games and features, while also allowing collaborative titles to breathe new life into franchises that were starting to get stale.

Re: Video: The Top 5 Most Embarrassing E3 Moments by Nintendo

DragonEleven

@Exy I actually think Project Giant Robo may have developed into ARMS to some extent.
Project Giant Robo was basically a tech demo for a motion controlled boxing game that didn't really work using the gamepad to control the body of the robot... swap it out for two separate controllers to control each hand and you'd have something a lot more like ARMS.

Re: Talking Point: Five Key Areas Nintendo Must Get Right at E3 2017

DragonEleven

I don't think there's any real concern about most of the points in the article... they key thing is the games.
1. New announcements - there are several things rumoured at the moment (Metroid, Smash, Pokemon Switch, etc.), and any one of them being announced would be a major plus for Nintendo.
2. New details - there are several games on the way that we know very little about, so they've got plenty of new stuff they could talk about... they just have to make sure they don't get hung up repeating what we already know.
3. Dates - very few upcoming games have been given dates, and some only have vague release windows... they need to give specific dates or at least narrow down the release window for games that are further off.
4. Third-parties - these are more important to Nintendo now than they have been in a long time... they shouldn't dwell on them too much, but they need to give them more attention than they have done in recent years... they need to get the balance right.
5. Don't force anything - something I've noticed in the past is that they have a habit of forcing more minor games into the schedule just to get a bit more variety when there hasn't really been any need to go into it in so much detail... they should only spend as much time talking about a specific game as they need to... if they need to include them, and there's not enough content for a full slot on the schedule, then they should split them up into shorter sessions (indies are a frequent culprit of this, but I suspect the 3DS might be at risk of it this year with Nintendo attempting to keep it's presence up).

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

DragonEleven

I think all of the confusion about what sort of console the Switch is just comes down to people's understanding of the terms 'portable' and 'handheld'... while the two overlap, they do have different meanings, so cannot be used interchangeably, even though many people attempt to.

The Switch is a portable home console... just because it features a handheld mode does not make it a handheld console.
That's why Nintendo are advertising it as a portable home console, EA referred to it as a home console that you can take 'on the go', and Bethesda showed it in (implied) docked mode and table-top mode, essentially leaving out the handheld mode altogether.

Home consoles and handheld consoles are two different things... Nintendo have always kept them separate and are continuing to do so with the Switch and 3DS.
Just because their focus is currently on the Switch does not mean they will be abandoning the 3DS... handheld console releases always slow down when a new home console is released... this is nothing unusual.

Re: New Trailer for Skyrim on Switch Showcases Motion Controls and Link amiibo Support

DragonEleven

As long as that isn't the only amiibo that's compatible, then I'm happy to see other developers taking advantage of them within their games.

As for the motion controls... I get the feeling that it was just something they wanted to experiment with and just tacked it on when they saw the opportunity to do so... whether or not they've done a good job with them is more of a question, as they are easy to get wrong either on the technical side, or the application side.
Personally, in a game like this I think motion controls need to be used conservatively... as an enhancement to the standard controls, rather than a replacement.

Re: Nintendo Kicks Off Nine Hours of Online Maintenance for Switch Ahead of E3

DragonEleven

While there is the remote possibility that it's just a coincidence, it seems likely that they will be releasing something during E3.
VC would probably be the best outcome, although they did do Nindies demos last year, so they could do the same again.
It could also just be the introduction of another feature that we're expecting... a web browser, the companion app, video capture/sharing... that sort of thing.
There's also the possibility that they could start to bring free-to-play games to the Switch.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Pokémon Direct and Its Big Reveals?

DragonEleven

I'm a bit disappointed that they're not updating Pokken on Wii U to include the extra characters, but I never really got that into the game anyway.
USM I'm happy to see... partly as it shows they are keeping the main series on the 3DS for the time being, and partly because it strengthens my theory that Stars on the Switch won't be a main series game (the name Stars is clearly for this generation, but we have the 'third game' of the generation now, making a spin-off more likely)... although I was expecting a DP remake first, but GS is probably filling that slot for this year.

Re: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Confirmed for 17th November Release on 3DS

DragonEleven

Releasing these so soon after Sun and Moon is a little concerning... usually they'd leave a couple of years in between... typically with a remake in between... this brings three possible explanations to mind...
1. they're hurrying to release another set of games before the end of the 3DS's lifespan... similar to what they did with BW2 at the end of the DS's lifespan. (doesn't really make sense if you think about it)
2. with so many people expecting the end of the 3DS's lifespan, they may have wanted to release a game quickly to show that they were still supporting the system. (hopeful thinking to oppose the negativity of 1)
3. they're concentrating on another major game (e.g. Stars) and just threw these together relatively quickly to act as a filler/distraction until it's ready. (the most likely to be true)

Re: Get Ready for a Pokémon Direct on 6th June

DragonEleven

8 mins seems too long for them to talk about just one thing... I'd expect a new game reveal to be half that at best for a teaser, and far longer for a gameplay preview.
So if they do reveal Stars, then they will almost certainly have other things to talk about.
Pokken Tournament is an obvious one, as an update to the arcade content is long overdue.
They could also talk about the smart phone games to an extent, with the PokeLand alpha test having recently begun, Magikarp Jump recently being released, and Pokemon GO expecting an update to their gym system soon.
They could also be announcing PokeLand for 3DS/Switch.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Online Service Promises a New Approach to Retro Gaming

DragonEleven

I'm not overly interested in most online and retro games, but this service sounds great to me... it will allow me access to any of the features I need when I need them without being too expensive (when it was first announced, I was concerned it would be around £5 per month, which was a little off-putting), and if the discounts are good, then I'll basically get some of my money back through that.

Re: E3 is Coming, Which Means Anonymous Super Smash Bros. Switch 'Screenshots'

DragonEleven

Smash on Switch is an inevitability, but too many major series releases early on in a system's lifespan could cause a drought later on... the Switch already has a decent assortment of games for the next year that have either already been announced, or are expected to be announced at E3, so it's unlikely that Smash Bros will be added to that line-up (next year's E3 is probably more likely).
There's also the fact that the Switch is receiving a lot of ports of older games at the moment anyway due to being a new console, but if that goes on for too long it could give people the wrong impression, so Nintendo will likely want to keep that to a minimum.
That said, the Virtual Console does get around this issue by being a dedicated service for ports, and this is also a possibility that people seem to be overlooking... a VC port of an older Smash Bros game could be used as a filler until they release a new Smash Bros game on the Switch, and would be a perfect way to launch the Virtual Console... especially if they go with Melee, which is widely considered to be the best Smash Bros game ever.

Re: Pokémon GO is Reportedly Targeting 'Cheaters' By Hiding Rare Pocket Monsters

DragonEleven

Screw spawns... if people cheat to find rare Pokemon that it's only their own experience of the game they're ruining... the problem is with gyms.
Constantly spoofing to take over gyms without being anywhere near, and dropping in high CP Pokemon that they only obtained through cheating... that's what ruins it for everyone... they should ban flagged accounts from interacting with gyms instead, or make a 'phantom' set of gyms that only flagged accounts can see and interact with instead of the regular gyms.

Re: Niantic Drops Hint That Legendary Monsters Are Coming To Pokémon GO This Summer

DragonEleven

@olrodlegacy I think you misunderstood what I meant... I didn't mean that it would be a challenge to get them... more like it'd be a 'right place at the right time' sort of situation... as in anyone who lives nearby would be able to get it easily with no effort, and anyone without the means to get to that location at a certain time/date wouldn't even have a chance to get it... nothing impressive about that, just unfair.
If it's anything like the Ingress events, then it may not even come to every country.

What I'd prefer if they done would be if they done it through something like a set of lure modules... rare drops from PokeStops that can then be placed onto a PokeStop like a normal lure and will cause the corresponding legendary to appear there... then it must be battled like we saw in the trainer, with everyone nearby working together to weaken it, and when it's beaten, everyone who battled it will automatically catch it.
A time limit would prevent individuals and small groups from being able to get it on their own... they'd need to work together with their local Pokemon GO community to organise a large group of players.

Also... I think you mean Mew, not Mewtwo in your last comment.
