Re: Unofficial Go-tcha Accessory Aims To Take The Effort Out Of Playing Pokémon GO

DragonEleven

Just been looking into it a bit more... when it says it automatically catches Pokemon, that's not entirely accurate... it will automatically attempt to catch the Pokemon, but it is not guaranteed... and like the PGO+ it will only have one attempt at each Pokemon, and will only use Pokeballs.
Aside from not having to press the button and being able to turn off the vibrations (neither of which are actually that big of a deal), it doesn't offer any real benefit beyond what the PGO+ already offers.

Re: The Pokémon GO Adventure Week / Rock Event Starts 18th May

DragonEleven

Not impressed by the rock types... but seeing as this is an adventure event, not a specifically rock event does make me think there could be more to it.
Recent events of this scale have all had something special about them... but this seems to be lacking anything like that.
They made a point to name the fossil Pokemon, so what if it's about going on an adventure in a place where you would find fossil Pokemon (along with other rock types)... places like ancient ruins... and what other Pokemon are strongly associated with ancient ruins? Unown.
Like how they announced the shiny Magikarp during the water event, they could announce an increase in Unown once the event starts as an extra surprise, once people have started to notice an increase for themselves.

Re: Rumour: The Pokémon Company is Planning a 'New Card-Game' App

DragonEleven

These rumours from the WSJ just seem too fishy to be true.
Why would they be the first to get rumours like this?
If this is all coming from one source, then how do they know about both apps even though Nintendo likely has next to nothing to do with the Pokemon app and vice-versa?
If it's two sources, then how did the WSJ get both of them before anyone else?

Re: Nintendo Badge Arcade Receives Its Last Set of Badges in Japan Later This Month

DragonEleven

This, like Streetpass Mii Plaza, was just a way to encourage people to keep using their 3DS on a daily basis.
Mii Plaza has been inactive for over a year now... since around the time Badge arcade was launched outside of Japan... so chances are the end of Badge Arcade just means they're moving on to something else.
It could be that they are just moving on to smartphone games, which are designed to keep you playing in a similar way, or they could just be planning to release individual games on the 3DS similar to the mini-games of Mii Plaza... with Team Kirby Clash Deluxe possibly being the first of these.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Working On A Smartphone Legend Of Zelda Game

DragonEleven

Seems strange that the WSJ would get confirmation of something like this before anywhere else.
It's a safe bet that Zelda would be up next to get a smartphone app, as it is their next biggest franchise after, so someone could have just stated that likelihood during a conversation, with that being distorted by an error in communication.

Apparently the WSJ has also added that a Pokemon card game app is also on the way... this raises a couple of flags... firstly, there already is a TCG app, so it seems strange for them to introduce a second card game based app... secondly, Nintendo would likely have next to no involvement with it, so it's highly unlikely for either one source to know about both apps, or for the WSJ to have two sources with exclusive news like this.

Re: One Piece: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition Heading to Nintendo Switch in Japan

DragonEleven

Great game... got it on the Wii U... but I doubt I'd buy it again.
The main issue I found was that there was so much to do that it just became way too grindy to fully complete... not a problem if you're not a completionist, but as a completionist, it just got on my nerves after a while... it's actually one of the few games that I think would benefit from content being cut out from it.

Re: RiME Price Lowered for Switch eShop, With Soundtrack Incentive at Retail

DragonEleven

Not sure I follow their math... by releasing on an additional console, wouldn't they already be getting more income from the game than they would have done otherwise? Surely that could have been used to cover the cost of the additional development.

That said, I'll probably still get a physical copy regardless of the bonus soundtrack... most places end up selling games for below RRP, so it'll likely end up around the same price as the digital version anyway.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

DragonEleven

@MarcelRguez As I said two comments ago, Tanabe most likely isn't (or wasn't at the time) involved with it.
At no point has he actually said that there is not a new Prime-like game in development... that's the point I keep coming back to... every time he has been asked about it he has answered a different question... either talking about his personal position in the matter or the requirements for that sort of project.

But everything he has said points towards Retro Studios and Yoshio Sakamoto... they meet every requirement Tanabe described... Retro Studios have had the time, they have the resources, and they've assembled a team, while Sakamoto has the authority to pull the strings to make it happen.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

DragonEleven

@MarcelRguez He didn't lie, he just answered a different question from the one he was asked... and Nintendo are always being secretive about unannounced games they have in development... usually they just say that they can't talk about that sort of thing when asked, but Tanabe doesn't say that... he just talks about something else instead.

If I hadn't played ReCore, I would probably have said the same thing about Pacini and the others that left, but there was something very Metroid Prime-esque about the game as I was playing through it, which was most likely the result of their input in both games.
That said, Retro Studios would still have had enough of the Metroid Prime formula to make a similar Metroid game... it would just have been lacking the extra something that made the main Prime games what they were... they'd have had to replace it with something different, which would have set it apart from the main Prime games... and while that's fine for a spin-off, they can't really do the same with a main series game.

Think about it in relation to Hunters... Hunters stuck pretty close to the formula established by the first two Metroid Prime games, but wasn't developed by Retro Studios... it lacked the unique touch that Retro Studios brought to the franchise, which sets it apart from the main series games as a spin-off... the same would be true for any other instalments in the Prime series... they'd be stuck as being considered spin-offs, which are never as successful as main series games, so they'll want to avoid that.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

DragonEleven

@MarcelRguez As I said before, that first quote is hypothetical, and could easily have been meant to mis-lead.

I also began by referring to the new game as being a 'Metroid Prime style' game... I don't think it will be part of the Metroid Prime series... just be a similar style of game.
This mainly ties back to the staff issue again... Mark Pacini, the director of the three main Prime games (along with a couple of other key members of staff), left Retro Studios after Corruption... they were more important to the series than Tanabe, so it would be difficult for Retro Studios to produce another main series Prime game without them (I noticed similarities between the Prime games and ReCore when I was playing it last year, and that gave me an idea of what Retro Studios had lost with their departure).
Tanabe would still be able to continue the Prime series in the form of spin-offs like Federation Force, but if Retro Studios were to make any more main series 3D Metroid games it just wouldn't be the same... they wouldn't be able to rightfully call it a Prime game... it would need to be the first in a new series.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

DragonEleven

@MarcelRguez Seeing as that isn't an actual quote, we can't tell what exactly he said... if he was choosing his words carefully (like in the quote I referred to) then he may have been intentionally attempting to mis-lead them.
But it sounds as if he was speaking in past tense, not present tense, so still does not necessarily mean that it wasn't already in development at the time.
What we can take from that is that they would have needed to take on new team members in order to develop a new Metroid Prime game... and as I briefly mentioned in my original comment, Retro Studios were taking on new employees from 2014-2016, so this would fit.

There's also the very real possibility that Tanabe isn't (or at least wasn't at the time) involved in Retro Studio's current project.
Despite having been producer for almost every Retro Studios game to date, when Federation Force was released he claimed to know very little about their current project, implying that he had not worked with them since Tropical Freeze in 2014... so even if they were working on a new Metroid Prime game, all he would know about it would be what had been discussed with him previously... he would not have had any current knowledge of it.

Re: EA Is Considering Bringing More Games to Nintendo Switch

DragonEleven

I think they still need to understand that just because a game is popular in general does not mean it will be as popular on every console.
They need to release games that appeal to the specific audience of each console individually, rather than taking a 'one size fits all' approach.
That's the real reason they didn't get off to a great start on the Wii U, ultimately abandoning it... if they'd done things differently then we could potentially have seen a different outcome for the Wii U.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

DragonEleven

@MarcelRguez The question came up in this interview with IGN... http://uk.ign.com/articles/2015/06/17/e3-2015-what-metroid-primes-producer-wants-in-the-next-sequel
...but notice that he doesn't answer the question he was asked... he only says he's not involved in 2D Metroid games, and can't say when a new prime game will be made... it may have already been in development... as a producer he could easily be involved with several games at the same time.
Also, Tanabe was speaking hypothetically when he gave the estimate of development time... Retro Studios would actually have started work on this game around the time Tropical Freeze was released in 2014, so the 3 year estimate would be accurate for release this year at the earliest.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

DragonEleven

It's been obvious that they are working on a new Metroid Prime style game for quite some time now... new hirings... more secrecy than usual... even their responses to questions about it changed... they no longer denied that it was in development, instead either refusing to comment or answering a different question instead.

We can safely say that it's been in development for around 3 years now (although they've probably been preparing for it for much longer), and as it seems they're at the stage where they're recording the music for it, that likely means it's nearing completion, so can probably expect it within the next year, likely getting the first look at E3.

Re: Video: This Has To Rank As The Most Epic Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Glitch Yet

DragonEleven

@OorWullie The rain thing isn't a glitch... it's a result of the climate... you were on the edge of the Hebra province, where it can't rain due to the cold weather... stepping out of that area caused it to start raining, and stepping back in caused it to stop.
There's several areas that cause the same thing due to either hot or cold temperatures... you just don't usually notice as you tend not to hang around on the borders of those areas.

Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

DragonEleven

If a person buys a legitimate copy of the game, then I have no problem with them using an emulator to play that game.
Nor do I have a problem with people using an emulator to play games that are no longer available for purchase through legitimate means.
The problem is the rest of the people using emulators... they are the ones that need to be stopped, but there is no way for the developers of an emulator to prevent them from using it.

Re: Reggie Explains the Reasoning Behind the New 2DS XL

DragonEleven

I think they went a bit over the top with the 2DS when they were trying to reduce the price... making it a solid block without the hinge just made it bulkier and left the screens exposed, reducing it's portability, and therefore it's appeal to older users (causing it to be considered more of a child's model rather than a budget model)... so it seems like they've just fixed that mistake.

Re: Nintendo is Still Targeting Switch Sales to Match the Wii

DragonEleven

I think it's possible, but won't be easy.
A steady stream of first party titles will be essential.
Third party titles will need to maintain a good level of quality (no shovelware or half-arsed ports).
Marketing will need to continue to be clear without targeting specific audiences too heavily.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Takes Top Spot to Give Nintendo a First UK Number 1 Since 2011

DragonEleven

Weekly charts like this aren't the best sign of success, as they depend heavily on the popularity of other releases around the same time, and there simply wasn't anything else that was new out that could compete with a Mario Kart game this time... sure, being top of the charts will give it a bit of extra attention, but we really need to see figures in order to properly gauge how well it done.

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

DragonEleven

There was an guy on a forum a couple of weeks ago ranting about how he hated that the US had to put up with a cast of British voice actors.
Even when I pointed out that both the US and UK share the same american voice cast and that they were just putting on accents to fit with the characters he would not accept it, insisting that they must have separate voice casts.
Several people tried to point out how stupid that was, but they wouldn't listen, so we ended up just giving up.

Re: Fan-Made Zelda Title Breath Of The NES Gets Hit With Inevitable Takedown Notice

DragonEleven

It was inevitable... but having received the takedown notice so soon could actually be a good thing.
Without restricting themselves to the Zelda franchise they can now start to delve more into creating their own characters, etc. and the sooner they do that, the more time that'll have to develop alongside the game itself, which should result in a better game in the long run.

Re: Video: Developers Show Gameplay Footage of Minecraft: Switch Edition

DragonEleven

Minecraft itself is too outdated... it was a great idea at the time, but the concepts that it introduced have just become so widespread now that it's lost it's appeal.
They need to continue to expand upon the base concept to create new games rather than just re-release the same game over and over again. I've seen some fan-made mods that would be great if they were picked up and turned into a full-blown game

Re: Random: Some People Will Go To Great Lengths To Bring Pokémon Games Back From The Dead

DragonEleven

Back in the days of gen 1 I was in primary school, fixing my calculator (sort of) with nothing more than a pritt stick and brute force.
Considering that the screen had completely fallen off before I 'fixed' it, the fact that it would only display 'alien symbols' was irrelevant to me considering it a success... and me and my friends worked out that you could decipher the symbols to work out what it said.

Re: Your Classic Splatoon amiibo Will be Supported in Splatoon 2

DragonEleven

I'd already assumed this much when they announced the new amiibo... the real question is whether it will be the same gear as the new ones... the amiibo gear shown does bear some similarities to the gear of the original amiibo (squid=sci-fi, girl=school uniform, boy=samurai/ninja) with the main difference being that the squid and boy gear isn't as bulky as with the originals (likely to accommodate the more agile movements of the inklings).

Re: Video: The Problem with the Joy-Con Steering Wheels and How to Fix It

DragonEleven

Don't really want to splash out for an additional controller to play this multiplayer, but the Joy-Cons alone are a bit small.
I hadn't considered using the wheel add-ons as we never use motion control steering, but thinking about it, they might actually be a reasonable alternative.
If I do get a pair, then I will definitely be using this trick, as it sounds like a really good idea.

Re: Rumour: SNES Classic Mini Coming Later This Year

DragonEleven

I still don't see why people have been complaining about the limited supply of the NES mini... Nintendo had been referring to it as a collectible item from the start, which implies that it would only have a limited availability... making more only lowered it's value as a collectible.
If you wanted to play the games you could get them on the virtual console, so the only real reason you'd have for getting the NES mini instead of the VC games would be to have it as a collectible.
