At Ubisoft's E3 conference Starlink: Battle for Atlas was announced for the Nintendo Switch, with the big N's system seemingly being the lead platform.
The game promises that you can "team up with star pilots", "build custom starships", "search for ancient secrets" and "outrun asteroid fields". Most interestingly it seems to feature a toy-to-life concept with starships that can attach to your game controller. It's scheduled for release in Fall / Autumn of 2018.
Check out the official announcement trailer below:
Starlink: Battle for Atlas will also be releasing for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

And I will have completely forgotten about this come 2018 anyway. Ubisoft have screwed themselves over in that regard.
Digital versions of the parts will available, so it seems the figures aren't required.
Seems like something to announce at E3 2018 no?
Of course they'll give us this because they want us to buy their SCAMMY toys. What about all the big games announced tonight Ubisoft? The vast majority of which are skipping the Switch.
As long as it's not stupidly expensive to unlock everything like with Skylanders, I'm down with this. Honestly, it's just nice to see a multiplatform game not skipping the Switch.
Well it looks interesting and gives us two games for 2018 for the switch
Ubisoft are kinda delivering for Nintendo right now. One exclusive (no other console can say that) with Rabids+Mario, this game and then of course Just Dance 2018 (which is even coming to Wii U and Wii). There is also hope for Beyond Good and Evil 2.
While I would love to see some of the others come to Switch (especially Skull & Bone), most of these games have been in development for over 3 years, before we knew anything about the Switch.
Also, credit to Ubisoft for having NO ZOMBIES in their games. Getting a bit tired of all the horror/gore stuff.
It'd be kind of cool to having a physical figure of my ship in front of me. Sort of build a relationship with it, and if it's the only one I have to get and the odd cosmetic, it could be cool.
It's got my interest
Man. That's far away
@SLIGEACH_EIRE How dare a company tries to make money?
The way the toys click on to the controller looks clunky and annoying.
@ninkza Let them try and make money by selling us Assassin's Creed, South Park and Far Cry.
It looks neat. I'll keep an ear out for it.
Hopefully it's something like the parts can be unlocked through normal gameplay but the toys give you the parts earlier or something along those lines. Also I wonder what they'll do for the ship with the Switch's tablet mode. This certainly has my interest though, I can't wait to see more info.
This could be really cool dependent on how they do these toys...hopefully they are optional.
And they are! Great!
Glad its only coming out Fall 2018 so I can set up a bank account offshore in order to buy all the ships, all the parts.
Disappointed to find out it's the Splinter Cell Blacklist team. Means it'll likely be EVEN LONGER for a new SC game
I think people on here mad at Ubisoft for not supporting the Switch enough should throw that criticism elsewhere, (EA & Activision maybe). It seems like they're really the only ones actually supporting Nintendo right now. I was honestly surprised and delighted to see more than just the Rabbids crossover going to the Switch.
@faint I had to rewatch the trailer to see that, it happened so fast. Yeah that seems annoying.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE they tried to make money selling us assassins creed twice. It didn't work.
@Evenmoresteven Mario+Rabbids, this, Just Dance, there's a chance that BG&E2 will be aswell, plus there's Steep, Rayman, and Monopoly. That's quite a bit.
I do feel like they could have gotten at least Assassin's Creed or South Park on there, but I'm not complaining. I've quite impressed by Ubisoft to be honest.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There's also a full digital option the figures aren't required, games like this are for collectors and kids, let others enjoy their toys, nobody is making you get this game.
The game looks a little bland the toys look like they are nice models and the Toys to Life field is WIDE OPEN at this point so who knows .
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Dude, go buy a chunky powerful console if you want those games. The Switch isn't the home for them - it's a freakin' tablet that you can plug into the TV.
The big studio's are going to see it as a place to sell different games - maybe some unique ones - because the other big shiny ones sell just fine on PS4 etc.
@Kienda Too far away, and too little seen to really have much interest. T2L has me a but put of though.
@Kienda +1 on zombies and horror and gore!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
They've got 60 million PS4 owners, 30 million XB1 owners and however many gajillion PC gamers to sell them to. Switch versions would be pointless. The industry doesn't want another box to play the same games. You've got to let it go.
@buildz Yeah I really don't understand revealing games on E3 that are still over a year away! Could have waited till next year E3 for that.
Announce games that actually release this year.
it does look cool.
Hey you never know - Nintendo may have some Ubi news saved for their info dump. Not predicting - just suggesting peeps might want to hold off going all weird and culty.
@0upshroom7 You will still have to pay for the digital content.
I'm so in!!!!
@faint I know but I bought them at least. It's just annoying to see us get crud like this while the other consoles get the big games.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Still won't prevent someone from fully enjoying the game as long as the basic digital version is cheaper. I just don't get all the compliants sometimes, just don't buy the game. Let other people spend their money on what they want, but you're entitled to your opinion I guess
No idea where this is going but I like the art direction, the gameplay seemed fun, and the pitch was heartfelt as far as these things go. I applaud Ubisoft for their Switch support, and if this turns out to be as intriguing as it looks, I'm totally willing to drop some cash on it.
I'm not going to lie though, that whole toy-integration thing, even if optional, has me a bit sceptical, but if this is their version of an enhanced Amiibo basically, then I'm totally fine with it.
Well, that was unexpected.
This game looks good, I'll probably end up getting it unless it has terrible reviews lol
Wow this one is way out there from release date. Im so happy to see it though. I have been wanting to play an open world space exploration game and finally one is coming to a nintendo system. It looks great too. But Damn its a longway from release. Well we will just have to wait. Im very excited for it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I picked up the third one but it wasn't for me. I did love the wiiu version of splinter cell tho. I'm probably one of ten people who got it a launch 😜
Great! Now show some gameplay or else I won't be convinced it'll be any good.
You have my attention, Ubisoft. If its got online play I'm probably going to get this. For some reason it speaks to me. I could do without the actual toys, but I think it was mentioned that above that they're not totally necessary. So I'm definitely keeping an open mind.
When the trailer started I thought not another no man sky. Then I saw the joy con and was please to see that they decided to bring something different out. Whether or not the Toys 2 life things takes off again I don't know but the game looks like something I really want to play.
Looks pretty cool. If I'm still around, I'll look into it. The toys look pretty fun, and I'm curious as to how exactly it'll work. They kinda make me want a Gundam Build Fighters game done in a similar way.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You do know Assassins Creed doesn't sell well on Nintendo consoles right?
@faint IV was miles better.
Oh good, looks like toys to life games are getting more adult.
Now just to wait on mageknight or warhammer 40k to make the jump.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Pretty sure Ubisoft tried selling those kinds of games to this fan base, and nobody wanted them. People just wanted them on the system for bragging rights, but had no intention of actually buying or playing any of them.
Then they did a poll among Nintendo gamers before Switch launched, specifically asking them what kinds of games they would buy from Ubisoft on Switch. And by the general lack of realistic ports I'm guessing once again people spoke loud and clear they're not interested.
Hence the variety of genres we're seeing from them this time are everything except those games people won't buy. Snowboarding and space shooters and cartoon strategy and platformers... types of games that actually might sell to this fan base.
Besides, PS4 only gamers and Xbox only gamers likewise see all these big games Nintendo gets and they don't. So it goes both ways. They see Zelda, they see Splatoon 2, they see Arms, and Mario Kart, and a new Fire Emblem coming, they see Monster Hunter, they see all these games they can't have... you're always going to see a ton of games you like and can't have if you choose to only play on one console
@Malcrash It could with the right push and promotion. Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem for a long time didn't sell well in the West. Now look at them, especially FE.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Apparently the toys are optional, and not required, you can also get them [the ships?] digitally. If it's just optional I don't care. At least they're not bound to physical toys, and that's the only thing I want.
Can you make a link that actually works in the US, Ubisoft pulled a stupid move and made it not available. FAIL.
Edit: For those who want to get past the stupid region lock on the YT video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpTlQG6c3lE
@mikegamer thank you for the link was just about to post about how I couldn't see the trailer
Glad to see. Far as I can see Ubisoft is providing more than Capcom and EA put together right now.
At least I can ignore those ship pieces.
@Roam85 yeah that would be a big kids dream
What I find encouraging is that both this and the Rabbids cross over game run on Ubi's own Snowdrop engine. The same that The Division got built on so there's hope going forward bigger games can be scaled down to the Switch with minimal effort and cost.
Are all these trailers UK only or something? If so, thanks NL.
@IceClimbers This is basically what I wished Nintendo had done with amiibos.
This way I can buy just the ship designs I like and can purchase extras digitally without taking up space.
Starlink is intriguing, but I want to know more. Toys to life is a money pit, so unless it's got some stellar gameplay I probably won't ever buy into it. Would have liked Assassin's Creed on Switch, but I wasn't really holding out hope for it.
Can't wait till Ubisoft reports a wek before the game is due, "Oh, sorry Switch owners, the game out grew our initiall plans. We'll port over a crapy version in 2019 for you though."
Looks like it could be good, but the price for the extras will be the deciding factor.
Great news, Nintendo scores again.
Looks like they sacrificed aerodynamics in favor of toy revenue.
This looks really cool...but I really don't like the toy aspect of the game. If this would have just been a game I would have bought it.
@JaxonH "coming, they see Monster Hunter, they see all these games they can't have... "
If MH World does actually get revealed at the Sony event tonight I'm blaming you. 😉
@rjejr
Ya know, they can do whatever they want as long as I get my core Monster Hunter on Switch.
That said, I'm still concerned because if they westernize the series as a spinoff, and it sells, what happens when they stop localizing the core games because they're so busy ranking in the bucks from Monster Hunter: Western Gamer Edition...
I love this series so much... which is why you just know they're gonna whore it out to pander to the western AAA crowd. Cause they just refuse to let me enjoy a good thing.
I think I really want this, but buying a bunch of stupid toys to snap on to make the ship capable of dropping the enemy is an angry turn off. A plastic toy cash grab.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE maybe next year, when teh Switch has sold over 20MM, they will come around.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Meh, South Park is over a decade past its prime and none of its games have been that good. The best bit from the last game was the censored Australian version where they made a funny screen explaining the buts that were removed. South Park seems to want to follow Family Guy in getting rid of anything clever.
And Assassin's Creed was stale after the first 2 games, which is why the series sold poorly on Wii U as it was already way past its prime.
Time to have new things that are fresh instead.
@Roam85 40K would kill the toys to life market once and for all, costing people $1000 just to build just one army.
Dammit! I can't watch ANY of these damn videos!!!
I'm hoping they come to their senses and remove the toy stuff. They like alright, but seriously it would just make the game worse to play with a thing on the controller.
The game looks great without that stuff.
I've been thinking for the last hour since that last post, and at this rate I won't condemn the game, but right now I won't buy it, at least not new.
I can't justify a $60 game and then a bunch of what $5-10 each plastic toys with a chip in it for one game just like Skylanders does? At least with the Amiibo you have some 30 year old franchise desktoys that work across a good many games beyond their intended use so far. Lego you get some badass mini sets you can build and rebuild for fun or display adding value. I was gifted 4 of those sets and I don't even have the game.
I hate games that lock parts of the main game away behind toys and other gimmicks like that. Just let me pay for the game and have access to the main content.
Looks interesting but I've got a ton of Amiibo and Disney Infinity. I'm not interested in another collection.
Dear NL, can you stop using UK only YouTube videos, or do you not care about those who live outside of Europe?
@Reignmaker
Check my previous post, I added an NA video link since they don't care about non UK gamers.
I would love it if companies like ubisoft would do kickstarters for bringing old franchises/games to the switch so it is less of a risk.
Then people would stop complaining all the time...
oh wait they probably wouldn't...
nevermind.
Keeping an eye on this.
I don't hate it, and it's great to see a new IP trying something different on the Switch. Waiting for details.
I liked that they said you can also get stuff digital. I have already WAY too many amiibos.
Although you can bet that there will be some Foxy Arwing type toys there. Mark my words.
Ubi really rocked it.
Looks nice! But toys to life....in 2018! Seriously?!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They released Assassins Creed for Wii U, great port too. Nobody bought it. Also all the AC games play identically and control terribly so don't feel like you're missing anything. I would have liked Skull & Bones on Switch though, I'll give you that.
Looks pretty fun, but the Skylanders-like peripheral system is a dealbreaker for me. If it's fully playable without those I might buy it, but I don't plan on building a collection of Starlink pieces unless the early reviews are insane.
@MadAdam81 nah, you can build a goblin army for like 60 bucks... or at least could have like a decade ago.
@Roam85 Don't forget they make you replace it all every 5 years as well
@JaxonH "Cause they just refuse to let me enjoy a good thing."
But you enjoy everything.
So, MHW is a thing. A non-Switch thing. OK, so you can worry now. Or you can learn to read Japanese, your call.
Will be interesting to see what happens going forward. i can't see them letting the main line games die, too big in Japan, so big they release each one twice, just add in a few more monsters. You could be right about it not coming west though, I think a lot of people are still waiting on DQX but they know that's never coming.
Oh, I have 326 unread emails, so if you already had this conversation with me elsewhere, apologies, E3 always overwhelms me. I think I still have unread emails from last years E3, but I always read those from people I know.
