Re: Digital Foundry Covers The "Disappointing Tech" In Pokémon Legends: Z-A

DaniPooo

@OmnitronVariant

Well their entire thing is the technical side, and sure sometimes they do comment on gameplay and fun factor.
But their main focus is always and will always be the technical aspect.

And yeah the Pokemon games are absolutely disappointing when it comes to the tech. They so far below average that they really should feel embarrassed. Especially since they have the money to hire really talented people.

Luckily the games still tend to come out fun to play despite being a technical nightmare.

But yeah the Pokemon games these days are downright ugly at times and not impressive at all on a technical level.

And yeah, I will probably get some diehard Nintendo and GameFreak fanboys rushing in like knights is shiny white armor to defend GameFreaks and Nintendo.
To you I say: open your eyes and learn that just because you like a game franchise you don't necessarily need to be blind to it's faults.

I love Nintendo games and Pokemon games, always have..
But I am not afraid to admit that Gamefreaks seems to really struggle with the technical side. (Compared to most other game studios)

Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings

DaniPooo

@mr_benn it should be a choice. ”Do you want to play with cheats available in the menu? Or do you want to disable that”

If you chose to disable that and you hit a difficulty spike then you only have yourself to blame as it was your own choice. And you have two options. Restart the game with the cheats. Or play the game as it was intended and get better.

Why would this be an inconvenience for everyone? If you don’t mind playing with cheats then play with cheats.
I just want a way to permanently disable it for those who know that they don’t want the temptation.

Re: Newcomers Can Break Final Fantasy VII Remake With New Difficulty Settings

DaniPooo

I am kinda for it but in the past I feel that Square Enix implement it in the wrong way.

I feel like these options should only be available in the easy difficulty mode and that they should be completely unavailable as soon as you change the difficulty level.
Because if you want to cruise through the story then fine set the game to easy and enable all the cheats you want.

But if you just want to enjoy the story then you have no reason to increase the difficulty. and what's the point of increasing the difficulty if you're gonna cheat anyway.

I also think that the question should be asked when you start the game (do you want cheats to be available? You can't change this settings later)

So that if you decide to play the game the genuine way without cheat's you won't constantly be tempted to go into the cheat's menu just to speed up the grind or whatever.

And go ahead call me weak or whatever but I have not beaten Final Fantasy 7-9 in like 10-16 years without using cheats, just they are so readily available. I have beaten Final Fantasy X several times over in this time without using cheats.

I think if there was an option to turn them off permanently I would probably use that option just to remove the temptation.

because to be honest, these games are actually more fun and rewarding when you don't cheat.

Re: No Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Planned

DaniPooo

@Axecon ??? What? Are they a poor Switch 2 supporter for making a specific Switch 2 version of the game??

If it is in terms of Switch 2 upgrade paths you are talking about. Didn't they just give you the Dragon Quest III Switch 2 upgrade for free?

Come on.. Why should they provide you with an upgrade path honestly?
Perhaps you should be happy instead that they still support the old Switch, because that support will probably cease in a year from now

Re: Square Enix Rules Out Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

DaniPooo

@LastFootnote I think it's a bit different with DQ3, it's already been out for some time and a lot of people owns it, if they release a Switch 2 version then I think they will have to consider an update path for the people who already owns the game.

However with DQ1-2 the same issue doesn't exist so they probably know that they can get away with letting the customer choose which version they want to buy at launch.

Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Updated To Version 1.1.3, "Improves Gameplay" On Switch 2

DaniPooo

@cowntsikin Well it would require some work, it ward made for stereoscopic 3D and is one of the only games on the 3DS that actually use the 3D as a gameplay gimmick.

If they have the source code then they could definitely rework those sections that relies on stereoscopic 3D to be more playable without it. Because some of those were really troublesome without the 3D effect.

Like those platforming sections where they deliberately made it so that you almost can't tell if a platform was in the foreground or like beside you unless you turn on the 3D

Re: Miyamoto Views Games As 'Products', Not 'Works Of Art', Says Ex-Nintendo Dev

DaniPooo

@Orwellian87 thats not the definition of a ”product” though. Look up the definition of the word product. It simply means ”something that is produced by human or mechanical effort”

Look up the definition on reputable sources before you start giving words your own meaning.

Nowhere have I seen any word definition for the word product that states that product means that it’s a ”disposable and meaningless construct”
That’s a completely incorrect understanding of the word.

That being said, some products can be disposable meaningless constructs that are easily consumed and forgotten, sure.. but that’s not what the word means.

Re: Miyamoto Views Games As 'Products', Not 'Works Of Art', Says Ex-Nintendo Dev

DaniPooo

@Orwellian87 or perhaps it is a good thing, I mean most games he has been directly involved with has been going down in history as timeless classics.

Think about it, “Work of Art”.. that’s often quite subjective, often resonating with just a group of people but others not so much.

Viewing a game as a product and shaping it to go down well with a mainstream audience might have been the perfect recipe for a good game back in the 80s and 90s.

Re: Switch Port Experts Share Thoughts About Switch 2's "Raw" Performance

DaniPooo

Most games are not bottlenecked by CPU and in such cases that the CPU is the bottleneck I am sure this issue can be worked around by for example reducing the numbers of non interactive NPC's, reduced physics range and stuff like that.
Heck sometimes it might just be a matter of optimize the threading better. But for the absolute majority of games this won't be an issue, it's mostly all about the GPU performance.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom And Breath Of The Wild Updates Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

DaniPooo

@OldGamer999 We're just at the very beginning of the Switch 2's life and believe me.. We have only scraped the surface of what the Switch can do. Sure Cyberpunk 2077 is probably pushing the hardware a bit, but it's still early, devs always get better at optimizing over time and then there's also game engine development to take in consideration.

I would say that Switch 2 is probably closer to a handheld PS5 than you realize. The more we see of it, the more it seems like the performance and perceived graphical fidelity can land somewhere between Xbox Series S and the base PS5 in docked mode and between PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S in handheld mode
But this is something we will get a better picture of over time.

One thing is clear though, It is capable of running current generation games (although not at the same level as Ps5 and Ps5 Pro)

Re: Magnetic Joy-Con Sticks Already In The Works For Switch 2 Amid Fears Of Drift

DaniPooo

If and when these come out I would highly advise against installing them in your only pair of joy cons. It would be better to buy an extra pair of joycons for these sticks (just in case)

The GuliKit sticks for Switch 1 had to go through a few iterations before they got somewhat decent. Many GuliKit joysticks that I bought for Switch had issues and I had to reach out to GuliKit for replacements.

And even when I got working ones, they didn’t feel great, quite a bit too stiff in my opinion.

I assume that these will be even trickier get right given that there’s big and strong magnets in the Switch 2.

I am curious how they will solve it.
Does it mean I will have to recalibrate the sticks every time I take the joycons off for table-top gameplay and recalibrate again when reattaching them to the Switch?

So many questions here.

Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Has Sold Over 3.5 Million Units Globally In Its First Four Days

DaniPooo

@Yoshi3 Well, everything is getting more expensive and the prices for games on other consoles are gonna get increased soon as well. If I am not mistaken, there's already 80USD games being announce on other platforms. So this is not a Nintendo only thing, it's just the world we live in unfortunately.

Perhaps we should blame our dear politicians instead for making trade more expensive and Mr Putin for invading Ukraine?
There's many other factors too, but the point is that everything is getting more expensive, heck even tomatoes are super pricy now where I live.

Re: Switch 2 Pro Controller Teardown Gives Us A Good Look At The New Sticks

DaniPooo

I truly believe that they have progressively done something to lengthen the lifespan of the analogue sticks. My first OG Switch that I had went through multiple pairs of joy cons due to the stick drift (like 5 or 6 pairs), then I got the Switch Lite when it got released, and to this date I never got stick drift on it. Then I got the Totk edition Switch OLED and I have not experienced any drift on that one. I hope that the Switch 2 has even more robust sticks.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Explains Why Donkey Kong Has Been Redesigned

DaniPooo

Everyone says that Donkey Kong looks more like in the Mario movie, But I think the new look for donkey Kong actually look a bit closer to how he looked back in the day before RARE redesign him. Like a mix of the two designs but more expressive.
That's probably what they were going for in the Movie as well.

Also with the new designs across the board for both Mario and Donkey Kong characters I get some old school Disney vibes and I suppose this is exactly what they want.

Re: "Stay Tuned" For Next Mainline Mario, Says Nintendo's Bowser

DaniPooo

@DollyrotsFan1 That's, of all time right? Then 48 million is not that surprising from the sheer number of games that exist. And how long the franchise has been around. Compare that then with Marios 909.38 million

you can't compare that 48 million number with Splatoon because Splatoon is a much younger ip with far less games.

That's why it makes more sense to compare sale during last generation alone.

but even if we compare lifetime sales.
Just let this sink in All Kirby games of all time have made just slightly more money than Animal Crossing: New Horizons alone with 47.44 million, And that's just 1 game against all Kirby games.

Internet says that there's 39 Kirby games in total so on average each game generated 1.2 million USD.
Kirby is pretty far down the list no matter how you look at it.

I am not making fun of Kirby or anything I am just saying that it's not generating nearly as much money as some of Nintendo's other ip's and that is a fact.

The last Kirby game sold as well as it did, because it was having a larger scope and they really poured more effort into it than what we usually see from Kirby games.

Re: "Stay Tuned" For Next Mainline Mario, Says Nintendo's Bowser

DaniPooo

@DollyrotsFan1 Well Kirby isn't selling terribly, but it's not a heavy hitter.

"The three best-selling franchises on the platform have been Mario at 254.54 million units sold, Pokémon at 104.21 million units, and The Legend of Zelda at 72.69 million units"

Kirby which sold 13.36 million units.
And these are franchise totals, not specific games.

Splatoon 2 alone sold 13.60 million (which is more than all 6 Kirby games together on the Switch)
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 47.44 million, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 67.35 million.

Brings things into perspective. As to why Nintendo continues to push out so many Kirby games I have no idea, perhaps they really want Kirby to become more popular, perhaps it's a way for Nintendo to honor Satoru Iwata who is kind of the father of Kirby, I don't know.

Re: Random: If We Could Get A Zelda: Wind Waker Sequel Like This, We'd Be Ecstatic

DaniPooo

It's cool, but honestly I am kinda tired of the Breath of The Wild style of gameplay.

If the next Zelda is going to be "open air" then I would rather see them taking a new approach to the concept but perhaps making it less open air and more "traditional".

By that I mean, a more dense and carefully crafted world with less copy/paste objectives and environments. (I don't care if that means that the world will be a bit smaller)

And rather than the world being completely open from the beginning, I rather they took a more traditional approach.
For Example: Require the player to unlock an item that allows you to climb instead of using stamina. (perhaps in a dungeon)
Heck bring back dungeon items and make them indestructible.
Instead make a more robust upgrade system similar to the one in Skyward Sword or Armor in BotW and Totk but for weapons and other items.

Make the paraglider a mid/late game item.

These changes makes the items you obtain feel more valuable and their upgrades more substantial.
Also gradually unlocking freedom of exploration will make the player feeling more of a reward rather than having all that freedom unlocked from the start of the game.

We had already two games in a row with such extreme freedom from as soon as you leave the tutorial area. That was cool and I enjoyed them, but I am kinda tired of that style of gameplay and I think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to look back at previous Zelda games and create something that can still be considered open air but takes more inspiration of the older titles in the franchise.

I would love a return to form for the temples and the items as well as a more dense world that isn't post apocalyptic with a large bustling Hyrule City and many interesting characters.

For example: Imagine if Twilight Princess, Ocarina of time or Majora's Mask was remade in such a way that it became an open air game, same world but larger, no load screens between zones (because there would be no Zones), Some parts reworked in a way that would require you to climb or glide through the air (which you would need to unlock special items to do)
And a whole lot of secrets and side quests to find.
That would honestly be pretty awesome for such a remake.
But the gameplay idea would function very well for a new entry too. Rather than getting a Breath of the Wild 3

Also more traditional Zelda music would be welcome, I didn't dislike the ambient soundtrack of BotW or TotK, but I am definitely satisfied with that style of Zelda music now, hit me with something orchestral that really gets me in the mood for some adventuring!

Re: "Stay Tuned" For Next Mainline Mario, Says Nintendo's Bowser

DaniPooo

@DollyrotsFan1 Sure but Yoshi games are not what I would consider heavy hitter titles.

They could honestly release a new Yoshi game and a new Mario game in the same quarter and no one would think anything of it. But if that happened with 3D Mario and 3D Zelda that would definitely raise eyebrows.

I feel the same about Luigi's Mansion, Kirby, Wario games and the Mario Sport titles.

Re: "Stay Tuned" For Next Mainline Mario, Says Nintendo's Bowser

DaniPooo

I didn't expect a new 3D Mario to be a launch title, Mario Kart 8 has proven to sell incredibly well and with it being as old as it is it really was time for a new Mario Kart game.

So Mario Kart World being the heavy hitter launch title makes perfect sense.

Besides it wasn't that long since we got Super Mario Bros Wonder, and we also got 3D World and Odyssey on the Switch so I don't really feel like a new Mario is as "Urgent" as Mario Kart.
Nintendo likes to spread out their big titles to always have something to look forward to.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a summer Direct with some big announcement, perhaps a new 3D Mario for the holidays or early next year if we are lucky.

But there's other games that I think could be announced "soonish".
1) A new Animal Crossing
2) Splatoon 4
3) F-Zero (It feels like they have been building up towards something)
4) Eiji Aonuma announcing: "We are working on a new 3D Zelda game, please look forward to more information in the future" small tease picture that makes the community blow up with theories. (Many years passing before we hear anything else)
5) Super Smash Bros Ultimate Deluxe (Even more characters, more stages, more modes, more unlockables, 4k 60fps or 1080 120fps)

But I don't think it would have made sense for a New 3D Mario to be a launch title really

Re: Nintendo Removes Variable Refresh Rate TV Mention On Switch 2 Websites

DaniPooo

@WhiteUmbrella Did they actually ever mention that the dock has VRR out? I only remember them talking about the built in screen supporting VRR.

"The usb-c ports could have hit the usb-4 specification" sure, and we don't know that it doesn't. I agree that the HDMI port should have been 2.1. But from what I heard even before the direct, it's 2.0.. And that's a problem for VRR via the dock. If that is indeed the case.

I am not defending Nintendo here, I just didn't expect VRR through HDMI 2.0.

I would be delighted if all this is just misunderstandings and marketing teams messing up, We'll soon find out

Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage

DaniPooo

Why don't games have a mandatory godmode that you can't disable which makes it impossible for you to lose?

Answer: Because it wouldn't be a game then

Fall damage is just another gameplay mechanic that makes it so that you need to stay on your toes and be careful.
Personally I never had a problem with fall damage, especially not in Breath of The Wild or Tears of The Kingdom. I think I died from fall damage a few times at the beginning when breath of the wild was new but now I barely ever even take any fall damage, I'm just better at these games.

I don't know what the problem is

Re: Best 4K TVs For Nintendo Switch 2

DaniPooo

@MontyCircus Lol man, that's some rotten luck. I've had my C1 OLED for years now without any problems, and before that I had an LG LED LCD for many years as well which I then sold.

I also had some Samsung and Sony TV's, but out of all my TV's I've been most pleased LG TV's

I don't know how their other products are though.

Re: Uh Oh, It Looks Like Select Switch 2 Games Won't Support Cloud Saves

DaniPooo

Well this is confusing, they added the option the add an extra save state so that you can start a new game while keeping your old save, but how are we getting that save on out new shiny Switch 2 is cloud saves are not supported??

My best guess then is that you can do a system transfer from a Switch 1 when you initially set up your Switch 2?

Or perhaps they will have some sort of transfer feature to transfer save data (and possible virtual game carts) between Switch 1 and Switch 2.

It's odd, I guess time will tell

Re: Nintendo Removes Variable Refresh Rate TV Mention On Switch 2 Websites

DaniPooo

I don't know why we expected VRR using the dock.
Not really sure how that would work (especially over HDMI 2.0)

Perhaps using Freesync? (I would sort of find it amusing to see a device rocking an Nvidia SOC that only supports an AMD VRR solution) there could possibly be a license issue as well, perhaps?

However there might possibly be another issue here.
No version of the USB‑C specification natively carries HDMI 2.1 signals. VRR probably wouldn't work without special hardware in the dock to translate signals from DisplayPort with VRR to HDMI 2.1 with VRR (if that is even possible)
The only other solution I see is using Freesync

Re: Best 4K TVs For Nintendo Switch 2

DaniPooo

@MontyCircus Why though? The LG C-Series OLED models are awesome, they are regarded as some of the best OLED panels in the industry. You get 120hrz, VRR and HDR for a reasonable price.

Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2

DaniPooo

haha nah, they used to focus more on hardware power in the past with multiple consoles.
In this case they noticed how much people love the Switch and the hybrid form factor, it would have been a bad idea to do anything but another hybrid console.

And I wouldn't say that it doesn't bring some innovation, the mouse functionality in the joy-cons is innovative I think.
a physical video chat button is also unique (even if it's minor innovation)

No I don't think they have lost their identity, their identity is mainly in their games.

Perhaps they have moved on from some of Satoru Iwata's philosophies, but that only makes sense.

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

DaniPooo

The fact that Switch 2 has Switch backwards compatibility and NSO retro games also means that even if you can't afford a lot of new games on day one, you still have plenty to play (which is more than you can say for most console launches)

Yeah the launch line-up is superb, the best ever without a doubt.

However the price is probably going to be a serious issue haltering what could have been the best launch in gaming history.
I think Nintendo should have sold the console at a lower price even if it meant that they won't make money on consoles sold.
Their main income is selling games and their focus should be getting the system into as many hands as possible. Heck they could even get the consoles out to people at a small loss and still make tons of money on games sold. And they have the resources to do this. (Didn't they do did this with the 3DS after pricing backlash?)

Who knows, perhaps we'll see history repeat itself, but probably not

Re: Scandinavian Nintendo Fans Are Considering Flying Abroad For Cheaper Switch 2s

DaniPooo

I live in Sweden and yeah the price for preordering the system is outrageous here, however I live alone and was able to afford a preorder (Console + Mario Kart World) even though it was painful to see 7490SEK disappearing from my bank account just like that.

I just hope I don't have to wait too long to receive the system.
It would sort of suck to see them available to pick up in stores before you get your preorder when paying so much for it. It happened to me before, So I really hope that won't be the case.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?

DaniPooo

Imagine what they potentially could do if they revisited the Wind Waker HD remaster and added some Switch 2 features.
4k, 60Fps, HD rumble 2, HDR and perhaps even adding further tweaks to the graphics like volumetric lighting, improved shadow casting and perhaps some artistic implementation of water reflections (screen space).

Of course all these things would have to be well considered to fit the visual style of Wind Waker. But if they have the source code for Wind Waker HD then I would say that all of this is definitely doable, it's not a heavy to run game at all. (unless you emulate it)

And while they're at it, why not add in an Amiibo feature and some new bonus dungeon or side quest (a fishing side-quest taking you around the world looking for some special fish perhaps? admit it, it would fit the game perfectly)

Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Joy-Con Will Not Feature Hall Effect Sticks

DaniPooo

When thinking back to Gamecube, N64, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 I never had any stick-drift and non of them used hall-effect.
(I'm sure it happened for some people, but it was probably quite rare)

Then I got Joy-con and now I have gone through 7 pairs due to stick-drift. I also had stick drift in a PS5 controller.

So it seems to me like something changed in the last decennium with how these sticks are made which makes them less durable. Hopefully they have addressed this issue.

Re: Is The Switch 2 A Steam Deck Killer? Digital Foundry Dives Deep

DaniPooo

It is definitely going to be able to do things that the steam deck can't because developers will spend way more time specifically targeting or optimizing for the Switch 2 hardware.
And that's because the Switch 2 will have a MUCH larger user-base.

And even if the clocks are running at a lower frequency in handheld mode and the SteamDeck is more powerful in theory then, the Switch 2 has more modern features to accelerate certain tasks. Such as the tensor cores for DLSS and raytracing.

And sure DF are concerned about the performance cost of using DLSS and Raytracing at the voltage of the Switch 2, I still think that Nintendo and NVIDIA wouldn't have had these features if they were not useful, I find that highly unlikely.

And if games can start taking advantage of hardware accelerated raytracing or upscaling then I think even in handheld mode the Switch 2 could have an advantage over the SteamDeck.

But no the Switch 2 is not a SteamDeck killer, because people who buy a Steamdeck do so to a large part for the openness of the system, you can run your Steam library plus emulators, PC applications and even install other operating systems such as Windows on it (if that's what you want)
It exists in the hobbyist space and can comfortable do so no matter how successful the Switch 2 becomes.

What the SteamDeck should worry more about is all the other hobbyist PC handhelds with way more power being released left and right. And it seems their strategy is to partner with them, selling a license to ship new PC handhelds with SteamOS.
So they are probably happy about their position on the market and strategy going forward.

Re: Mario Kart World "Paid DLC" Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo

DaniPooo

Why are ex-Nintendo of America employees opinions being treated as newsworthy? Isn't Nintendo of America more or less just a glorified marketing, localization and PR team?

I also kinda cringe when I see head lines such as "Nintendo President" and then it's Doug Bowser, especially when he say "We have built this system", or "we make game and experiences"

He and his teams are not involved in any of that, they are just relaying what comes from Kyoto Japan.

Heck Nintendo European Research & Development (NERD) is doing more for us in terms of games and experiences.

As for DLC, I think it depends on the price and nature of the DLC.
If they do a full expansion and release it for like 20-30USD then I won't complain

I could kinda imagine them adding in the Daisy Cruiser ferry that you can race on while traveling to a new continent (or something like that)
