Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

DaniPooo

@JazzyBeat I never said that graphics are the same as frame rate.

To prove it I will define both for you so that you understand them.

Fram-rate is how many pictures are rendered per second.
Graphics: Is simply picture visible by eye.
However In the video game industry we tend to prefer graphics that are visually pleasing to our eyes.
This can be graphics that are technically impressive, graphics that are artistic or graphics that does the job.

Re: Best Of 2022: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

DaniPooo

@Goofonzo No I am not lying..

You like the gamepad I get that.
I think it had cool features too. I used to own a Wii U and for a long time after I got the Switch I still used it as a retro game player basically.

I had a lot of love for the Wii U, It was a misunderstood console.

But the Switch is just better in my opinion.
It took the idea of the Wii U, being able to play remotely directly on the gamepad and just made it better by allowing you to play wherever you are.

And it's a fact that the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U.

So what to I miss from the Wii U gamepad? I guess the ability to blow into the microphone..

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

DaniPooo

@jrt87 Wow, you keep proving that you are not part of Nintendo's target audience. And you can't accept that apparently.

I won't argue that games looks and runs worse on Switch than other systems.

Heck I have a PS5 and I am not blind.

Why is it then, that I tend to reach for the Switch more often.
Well it's because I think there's some really fun games on there.
They are not running at 120fps @4k with HDR support.
But the games are fun, more fun than some of the pretties games out there.

But I have both the PS5 and the Switch because I know they're a great games on both systems.

I don't get why you have to be such a hater.

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

DaniPooo

@jrt87

You did not address anything...

Nintendo knows that the majority of their user base buy their hardware mainly to play Nintendo 1st and 2nd party titles or parents buying a child friendly game console for their kids.

It's these people that are the main contributors to their revenue.

The group of people who buy nintendo hardware mainly to play third party games is much smaller. It used to be insignificant in comparison, but the allure of the hybrid concept has made this group grow.

Still, it's not a problem for Nintendo yet, They are still making a buckets of money on the Switch, And I am sure they are planning their next hardware release.

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

DaniPooo

@nocdaes Nintendo care if they see that is their figures..
Which they probably do.. Even if the switch is selling really well still. I believe the sales has slowed down (both hardware and games)

But saying that the Switch sinks to the bottom does not seem right when Switch games and hardware are continuously competitive in sales charts.

But yes, I think we will have an announcement next year, and new hardware released in 2024.
And whatever new hardware they release, it won't be as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox, so don't keep your hopes up.

I think they will release another hybrid system. And I can see it being about as powerful as a PS4 Pro (maybe).

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

DaniPooo

@jrt87

It sinks to the bottom??? Have you seen how well the Switch is selling?

I have a PS5 and two Switch's, and I am honestly using Switch more than PS5, for 2 reasons..

1) The Switch can be used portably, which suits my lifestyle well.
2) The Switch has probably the best 1st and 2nd party games

Yes it sucks compared to PS5 or XBOX Series X/S when it comes to raw power and graphics..

But it's still very successful because it has great games, it's a hybrid and it's affordable.

Re: Best Of 2022: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

DaniPooo

@Goofonzo

The Wii U was indeed 1080p, or rather it was capable of outputting 1080p.
Many games was running at lower resolutions though. It's the same on the Switch, however the Switch is actually more powerful in terms of graphics.
So many of the ports are actually hitting a higher resolution on the Switch than they did on the Wii U.

Mario Kart Deluxe is definately a superior, it allows you to carry 2 items instead of one, this actually changes the gameplay quite a bit as it allows for more strategy.

It also add more multiplayer modes, like the battle arena more from SNES for example.

And they are even releasing new cups now for it.

Tropical freeze added a character 'Funky Kong' and new difficulty mode. Perhaps there was even more, but I don't remember.

Breath of the wild added VR, and higher resolution. 900p vs 720p, a more stable frame rate as well as some higher quality sounds.

Super Mario 3D World added a whole other game 'Bowser's fury'
But other than that, it added higher speed movement. And it's also a higher resolution.

New Super Mario Bros Deluxe added a new character, Toadette..
There are some other tweaks as well, But yeah this one is not super exciting

What other Wii U games do we have on Switch...

Pokken Tournament, Better graphics and frame rate.
New Pokemon. New daily challenges.

Captain toad treasure tracker, some new levels and 2 player mode

I mean I could go on, my point is that almost every Wii U game ported to Switch added something. It might not be big.. But it still makes it the definitive way of playing that game.

Re: Best Of 2022: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?

DaniPooo

Had to change joy cons multiple times due to drifting. And there is a small crack in the shell, like one of those ventilation fins (or what you call them).. And the battery doesn't hold the charge as long as it used to. Otherwise the OG Switch is still going.

It has pretty much retired from handheld play and is now docked all the time.

I use a Switch Lite for handheld gaming.

Re: Best Of 2022: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

DaniPooo

I think we tend to put the older stuff as our favourites out of nostalgia.

I know that I was about to go for the n64/gameboy colour or the SNES era. Probably out of nostalgia.

I remember talking about video games at school with my friends at that time. Trading Pokemon using the link cable and actually playing multiplayer games with friends in the living room. I remember how cool I thought it was seeing my gameboy Pokemon team in 3D on Pokemon Stadium. And the thrill of finding secrets in Super Mario World.
Or just the first time exploring Princes Peache's castle in Mario 64. That was a magical feeling.

I'm old enough to have had every single nintendo console (except the virtual boy)

But then I stopped myself and thought about how many absolutely awesome games we have on the Switch.
What would I have thought if I was 8-9 years old when the Switch came out? I bet I would have had an even better time.

There is no nostalgic feeling for the Switch, yet..
But I think in 20 years the majority of people will remember the Switch as a console that was better than everything that came before it.

Re: Chocobo GP To Get "No Further Large Scale Updates", Mythril Sales Discontinued

DaniPooo

@Zilock This is not a FFVII spin-off though. But yeah I get what you mean. Square Enix used to be better at making spin-off titles.
Just think about the Dissidia games for PSP, Tactics, Tactics Advance, the mana series and the Sa-ga series.

But now it feels like it's either based on FFVII, or it's cute and silly like Chocobo Racing, Chocobo Dungeon, World of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XV pocket edition and more.. Yuck..

I mean I get Square Enix, it's fan service. But what fans are they trying to service?? It's like giving Doom fans an unarmed Doom Guy doll in a pink ballerina dress...

Re: Nintendo Releases Update For Switch (Version 15.0.1), Here Are The Details

DaniPooo

@Maxz Ok my bad then, However I still don't think they are holding back the next console because of in game Splatoon events, that would be silly.

And they hardly need to dedicate an entire team to events such as Splatfest's and the like.

Point is, with the user base that the Switch have there is no reason to not continue supporting it for quite some time even after the next console it released.

And if Nintendo is smart, then they make the next console another Hybrid (since that was such a successful concept for them) and make it backwards compatible so that it can play Switch games. (This will probably not be a problem so long as they are partnering with Nvidia)

That way they have loads of games from the start and whatever Switch game they are still supporting will effectively be support on the new hardware as well. Win win..

The Switch was less powerful than the competition right from the start, now the competition has released their next-gen hardware, which makes the Switch look even more dated.
The Switch is one of the consoles with the longest support in history.

There's more and more Switch like devices being released that absolutely destroy the Switch when it comes to performance.

So forget about a "Switch Pro"... It's time for Nintendo to move on and announce their next gen hardware soon.

Remember that if they announce it tomorrow then it still take at the very least 6 months before you can buy it (Realistically probably a year)

I feel quite certain that Nintendo will announce new hardware next year. And if I had to guess I would say that you could probably buy it in early 2024.

I think it's possible that Tears of the Kingdom will be released on the new hardware as well. Because this game seems like such a huge title for Nintendo and it being developed so late in the Switch's lifetime makes it very difficult to see any other new Zelda being a launch title on the next hardware.

It would probably take them at least 5 years to develop a new Zelda title from scratch, probably longer.

So I believe that Nintendo is right now making Tears of the Kingdom for both the Switch and their new hardware.
And then it would make sense if the new hardware is on the way to be announced soon.

Re: Nintendo Releases Update For Switch (Version 15.0.1), Here Are The Details

DaniPooo

@Yosher

Well, them supporting games for years is a fairly recent thing in general. So it would not be many examples to be found.
Usually games was released and had perhaps some DLC released, but not really much else in terms of active support.
(At least not when it comes to Nintendo first party titles)

However, you can still play Splatoon 1 online on Wii U (if I am not mistaken).

And if I remember correctly the original Splatoon had active support with splat fest and stuff for a long time after the Switch got released.

I can also find a reddit post from 2019 with someone asking how much longer will Splatoon be supported.
The Switch was released in 2017. So that question was well over a year after the Switch was released.

My guess is that Splatoon 3 on Switch will be supported until Splatoon 4 comes for the new hardware. And If we're lucky then the new console will be able to play Switch games.

Re: Final Fantasy 1 To 6 Have Been Rated For Nintendo Switch By The ESRB

DaniPooo

I really hope this is not a mess up or fake.
I would love the Switch to de-throne the Vita in being "The King of Final Fantasy Handhelds".

Sure the steam deck will run even more Final Fantasy games.
But to me it's just too bulky for me to consider it a true handheld. To me the Switch Lite is the perfect size for a handheld.

Re: Review: Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion - The Series' Goofiest Writing Returns In A Thrilling Remaster

DaniPooo

@Aerona Well the Final Fantasy VII remake is WAY more demanding, getting that running and looking decent on the Switch would be very impressive though.

This is essentially a PSP game with prettier visuals.
So basically loads of small areas that are glued together with loading screens. This allow the game to be very lightweight in terms of performance compared to a modern game.

If they released FFVII Remake on Switch, I suspect it would be a cloud version.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 10th)

DaniPooo

@jemil1992
There is no 3D version of the original all-stars.
3D all-stars for the Switch is a completely different collection of games and therefore cannot be viewed as a different version.

Super Mario all-stars:
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros - The lost levels
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Mario World (Only on the "Super Mario all-stars + Super Mario World" cartridge)

Super Mario 3D All-Stars:
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy

See, completely different games. It's more like a sequel or continuation of mainline collections

Re: Random: Peach's Mario Movie VA Anya Taylor-Joy Says She's A Gamer Now

DaniPooo

When I was in my teens, I played video games every day. I spent most of my time and money on video games and I got most of my friends through that hobby. I even came in 2nd place in a Super Mario Bros tournament. I would say that back then I was probably a true gamer.

But now some 25+ years later, I only play a few hours a week.
I watch movies and TV series more than I play video games.
I wouldn't really identify myself as a gamer these days.

Would you call yourself a bowler for going out bowling with your friends a few times? I dunno..

To me identifying yourself as a gamer takes more than going to an arcade a few times with your friends. There has to be a genuine enthusiasm for gaming in general I think.

Perhaps it's there for her, but it doesn't sound like it to me.

Re: Random: Do Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Contain Hints To The Next Region?

DaniPooo

I want to see a Nordics based region. Vikings, longhouses, hi-tech, dense forests many lakes (Sweden and Finland), dramatic landscapes with mountains and valleys (Norway), many islands (Sweden and Denmark) and volcanoes and hot springs (If you include Iceland).

Could really end up being a very beautiful region with a lot of diversity.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

DaniPooo

I rate it poor for a few reasons. First of the actual performance, stability and polish of this game is worse than terrible.
The worst is when the ligthing flickers.. No when the entire world flickers in and out of existence. (It doesn't happen often but when it happens it really takes you out of the experience)

Second, I feel like the gameplay is a step back from Arceus, yes it's a completely open world (with the exception of the big city and area-zero).

But even though this world is larger and more open, It actually feels smaller to me, or rather.. More empty.. Arceus had more side quests unlocking more mythical and legendary Pokemon, It had more side quests in general.. (Like an npc asking you show them a Pokemon with an elegant tail or something and you have to figure out which one they mean) and all the collecting and crafting made sure that you always had something to do.

In Scarlet and Violet most of this is underwhelming when you expect something that builds and improves on the previous games.

I did enjoy exploring the areas and finding rare Pokemon.
And I did enjoy the three main quests and the freedom of how, and in what order you tackle them.

I also like one other thing, and this is a weird one.
I liked the way they made caves in this game. (I know it's a weird one) Some of them felt much vaster that in Legends Arceus and was a huge improvement over how it was done in Sword and Shield. (I'm still waiting for a 3D Pokemon game with dungeon/maze like large caves that feels right, Scarlet and Violet came close)

I like that Scarlet and Violet have a pretty large number of Pokemon included 400 or something. But I still wish they would include all Pokemon in an unlockable National Pokédex like they used to. (I understand it's not practical.. but still)

I rate it poor now, But if they patch the rough edges up and increase the performance then I will rate it as "Not bad".
At least fix the bugs and get the game to a solid 30fps.
(I wouldn't mind if the also fix some of the LOD stuff while they are at it)

But then if they also release meaningful updates that adds more content and expands the game, then I might rate it even higher (Depending on the quantity and quality of the content)

But for now, I really can't rate it higher than poor. It's a shame

Re: PSA: This Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Cheat Code Allows You To Access "Secret" Save Backups

DaniPooo

Wait, This would probably allow for item and Pokemon duplication.. I mean when you trade with someone, then it saves.
But what if you then roll back to your previous save?

In theory the Pokemon you traded should still be in your game. But also in the game you traded it with. And if that Pokemon is holding any items those you also now exist in 2 places.

You just have to make sure the other Pokemon you don't want to duplicate is of no value, because that one will be gone.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

DaniPooo

The game is fun, but yeah it certainly isn't running well.
It's full of bugs and frame drops right from the start.

Heck just exploring your house at the very start of the game I stumbled upon 2 camera bugs that resulted in a temporary black screen. (I believe one was triggered by interacting with a drawer in the hallway), And the camera can be very buggy at times in battles too. And that's with the day one patch.. That is unacceptable..

Sometimes I notice that the world was flashing black or white. And while riding your Pokemon the LOD of meshes like hills seems to warp in a really strange way. Sort of reminds me of the PS1.

The pop-in is probably the worst I have seen in years. Sometimes I encountered invisible Pokemon because their models didn't load in time.

Other than all the technical problems I feel like the work feels sort of empty. Like there's quite a few villages and towns. However, after you've been to one once, I don't really see any reason in the post game to return to them. It's more like decoration around a gym and a few shops.

Previous games at least tried to reward you for talking with NPC's and allowed you to enter buildings. In this game it feels like most NPC's won't even talk with you. And most of the buildings you can't even enter. Why?

Anyway, other than those complaints, I do like the freedom of traversing the world and completing the Pokédex is pretty fun.

I hope they put a team on fixing all the bugs and improving the performance of this game. That should be their priority number one right now. And then they can give us a free expansion.
Otherwise I will be disappointed forever about this entry in the franchise.

Yes, Legends Arceus runs better and is less buggy than this.

Re: Toree 3D Developer Brings Super Kiwi 64 To Switch eShop This December

DaniPooo

@tonyp1987 I get why you think that, it has a similar intro and rhythm to Dragon Roost Island from Wind Waker and a similar flamenco/Mariachi mix kind of sound to that of Gerudo Valley in Ocarina of time.

However, I do not associate this sound with Zelda in particular, in fact I think I associate the Zelda music more with Koji Kondo style Melodie’s, a his ability to throw in some unexpected wacky stuff and make it work. Like making a slightly Jazzy chord progression work in the medieval high Fantasy setting. There is often some Jazz inspiration in the Melodie’s (intentional or not).
And he always manage to make the melodies catchy, unless he is going for an ambient sound.
There’s such a variety of styles in the Zelda games that it’s difficult to pinpoint a distinct “Zelda style/sound”.

it’s more like: Aaa the ”Koji Kondo magic”!

Re: Dragon Quest Treasures Overview Trailer Showcases Impressive Scope

DaniPooo

@Magician I know right But I think the SNES got over all better games. It feels like half of the games on the Switch are ports or remasters of old titles. and many of the others are spinoff titles.

That leaves just a few mainline adventures and new IP's.

But don't get me wrong, I love remasters and spinoff titles as well.

Also Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default II was very good.

Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

DaniPooo

@carlos82

Personally I think it depends on what they are selling us.
If they sell us an emulator bundled with a rom and nothing more then I think they should drop the price.
Because then we only get an old game and nothing more.

If they remaster the game and add new features Like Wind Waker HD then I have no problem paying the full price.
They provide us with a fresh new way of experiencing an older title. And they put a bit of effort and money into making it.

If they remake an old game like Link's Awakening then I also have no problem paying the full price.
I mean in some cases it's like a completely new experience.

The Last of US - Part 1 I think I would pay the full price for if it was released on the PS6 and there was no other way to play it on that system.

Yes the graphics looks really great.
But I don't think the PS4 pro version of the remaster looks bad.

Actually I am getting confused when I see this game.
It sort of looks like they have made a very impressive remaster of the original game in a much newer version of the same engine as the original game. rather than recreating the game from scratch like a proper remake.
I say this because it sometimes looks too similar, like they have pulled some assets, animations and voice clips straight from the original game. Is it really a remake or is it a very impressive remaster of the remaster?
I hope that we eventually get some answers on that

I feel that the "remake" of this game came a bit too early.
Had they waited for next generation then they could have really taken it to the next level and "wowed" people more and would justify the full price.

Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

DaniPooo

@Effortlessgamer
I agree, I sort of hope that it won't come to that.
My hope is that they'll provide a solution for that so that you at least get to keep access to the NSO classic titles even if they drop the online play feature.

But if Nintendo is planning to continue the NSO model on their next system then I see no reason why they won't keep the servers up for a very very long time. Especially if their next system will be a backwards compatible hybrid (Which I sort of think it will be)
Then they could just continue supporting the same apps on the new system and it might be at least 10-15 years before we have to worry about them pulling the plug.

Otherwise they could just provide a free update to these apps that will check if you are a member NSO member once and then unlocks the app permanently.
I guess this would probably be provided sometime after they announce that they will shut down the servers.

Or they could be a bit more Nintendo and sell us the permanent unlock for a small price.

But I really hope that won't just pull the plug and make all the titles inaccessible on the Switch.

Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

DaniPooo

@Effortlessgamer

Hmm, I see both your points and you are both half correct.

Here's how I see it. and it's quite simple
If you can take any game that you own from a previous generation and play it on a new console then it's backwards compatibility.

Regardless of whether it's a compatibility layer, hardware support or emulation. But it does not have to be limited to physical media.

I would very much argue that the PS5 digital has PS4 backwards compatibility even though it does not take disc's.
Because it plays all my previously digitally bought PS4 games and I can just redownload them to the PS5 and continue playing.

However, reselling us individual emulated titles is not backwards compatibility. You cannot put just a few Gamecube titles on the shop and say: Look the Switch is backwards compatible with the Gamecube.

If they released the entire Gamecube library playable on their online service. Then I suppose you could make an argument that that service enabled backwards compatibility.

Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

DaniPooo

"the last couple of generations"

You are aware that both the Wii U and 3DS was fully backwards compatible with their previous generation console?

Yes you could actually play both the Wii version and the Wii U remaster of Twilight princess on the the Wii U without hacking the system.

In addition to that both the 3ds and Wii U had pretty decent Virtual console support even if I wish they would have added more games.

But here's the thing, you cannot really say that they purposefully left backwards compatibility out to make money on remakes and remasters when it comes to the Switch.

There are 3 typical ways to implement backwards compatibility
1) Emulation
2) hardware support
3) Compatibility layer

The Switch's vision is to be a hybrid console, and it's getting rather old.

So here's why it didn't have backwards compatibility

Emulation) It takes a very long time to develop an emulator and emulating something like the Wii U would just not be possible on the Switch. Even something like Wii and Gamecube seems borderline impossible with good compatibility with all games.
I guess that's why Nintendo's latest emulators rely heavily on game specific patches and realtime hacks to get the performance up.

Hardware support)
This one is easy, you think the Switch would be portable if they built in WiiU in it?

Compatibility Layer)
Also easy, Power PC -> ARM (two different architectures)
When they decided to create a hybrid system I guess they decided to drop PowerPC in favour of a more power efficient architecture more suitable for portable play.

So to make a long story short.

I am pretty sure they dropped the backwards compatibility due to it not being possible with the vision of a true hybrid form factor.
a necessary sacrifice.

It's just now that mobile chips are starting to get powerful enough to emulate newer systems at good speeds.

Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch (Again)

DaniPooo

@Cia It's not about surpassing the game.

Sure there are games out there with better graphics, better gameplay, better sound and so on.

But this is a beloved franchise with vast lore and unique character.

No other game surpass the elder scrolls games in being Elder Scrolls games.

Just like no games out there surpass Mario in being a Mario game.

This franchise is successful because it has character.
it's open, has great lore, packed with charmingly buggy content and beautiful music.
