Re: Talking Point: A Poképro And A Pokénoob Discuss Pokémon Legends: Arceus

DaniPooo

I know we all love this game for what it is. This hype and excitement will settle and it will then be easier to judge this game for what it really is. It's not the perfect pokemon game.

It's really fun and great new direction, something we should all be excited for.

But at the same time it's sort of shallow. After a while it sort of becomes very grindy. There is less reason to interact with other people because there is only one version of the game and you have items that removes any reason to trade. There is no PVP.

There is no breeding, there very litle to do in the game except for catching pokemon after you complete the story (Which is not very long), this game is all about the exploration.

What I hope to see in the future is a game that mixes this with the mainline pokemon games, more trainer battles, gyms, elite four, PVP, breading. Multiple Cities and towns, open areas in between that are free to explore like in PLA.

Sort of like a mix between Sword and Shield and PLA.

Because yes, they nailed the exploration and catching mechanics. But I feel they abandoned a lot of the things I like with the previous games. Things that didn't need to be scratched for PLA to still have what makes it so good.

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Another Zelda 64 PC Port, And It's "Nearly Fully Playable"

DaniPooo

@UglyCasanova yeah you could just emulate it if that’s your cup of tea, but then you will be stuck with low fps and other limitations. Having a readable sourcecode opens many doors that remains closed with emulation. Not to mention that you can port it to devices that are not powerful enough to emulate the game.

Because let’s face it, you still need a decent machine to emulate n64 well. But the n64 is not very powerful when compared to even the weakest devices today.

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Another Zelda 64 PC Port, And It's "Nearly Fully Playable"

DaniPooo

@GrailUK

This is huge news though. Because of the fact that we have source code to build this game and a PC port in the works. We will for the first time EVER, be able to see the game running at 60fps looking better than ever. And that's just the start.

They will be able to mod the game on a scale previously not possible.

Imagine this.. The could for instance allow you to add the models and assets from the 3DS version, and on top of that add upscaled textures. they could add analogue controlled camera, they could reimplement rumble and motion aiming. they could patch out bugs. They could add graphical features like shadows and better lighting.

I mean with the source code the sky is the limit. And they have it running on PC already wich means they have a lot of the work already done.

Then you know porting this over to other hardware like the Switch or the 3DS is only a matter of time. And it will run better than the emulation alternatives Nintendo provides us with.

This is only piracy if you download a prebuilt version, if you dump the rom from a cartridge you already own and build the port yourself it's not piracy.

Re: Gallery: Here's What Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Looks Like With Raytracing

DaniPooo

@NoTinderLife I do agree to some extent, but I don’t agree with the statement that it’s not the technology that makes the game pretty but the artists.

I think we need both, good artists can only do so much with limited tools. The technology enables some artistic freedom.

Furthermore, yes Pixar might say this and that about their approach to GI and I think their approach work for them.
But they are making movies and not games.

I personally believe the realtime raytracing technology will only get more capable, and eventually it will be capable of full GI far more capable than any other solution for GI currently used.

Full GI is a tool that would enable the artists to create the scenes they imagine easier and faster.

Re: Gallery: Here's What Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Looks Like With Raytracing

DaniPooo

@NoTinderLife again the keyword is fake…
I mean everything that raytracing can do has been done previously.
It’s not like we didn’t have games with shadows and reflections before ray tracing…

But here’s the thing, raytracing has the potential to be doing everything better than it’s done today with less work from the developers, and that is exciting.

Eventually we will have real-time GI powered by raytracing (With shadows and reflections)
That’s the direction things are going. And when that becomes the norm then all these other methods of achieving a GI effect, reflections, shadows, they will mostly become obsolete.

Re: Gallery: Here's What Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Looks Like With Raytracing

DaniPooo

@NoTinderLife
Global illumination is usually achieved using ray tracing in 3D rendering software. It’s normally very slow but looks great.
Sometimes it was worth letting the computer spend 2 hours on 1 frame

So the real-time Raytracing we have in games today sure is not capable of doing multiple bounces in a full scene with lighting, and reflections yet. But I do believe we will get there eventually

Re: Gallery: Here's What Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Looks Like With Raytracing

DaniPooo

Reshade raytrace is not real raytracing though.
It’s a screenspace effect. So it will only work with what is already within the camera frame.

If you look at Spider-Man Miles Morales then you will notice how the reflections are reflecting objects that are behind the camera.
This is how real ray tracing reflections should work.

I repeat reshade is not enabling real ray tracing.

Re: Zelda 64's Game Code Has Been Successfully Reverse-Engineered, Making Mods And Ports Possible

DaniPooo

@Meteoroid they have reversed everything so that they are able to compile to a rom identical to the rom they reverse-engineered, so yes.. all imperfections are present.

That’s actually a huge motivator for many who have been working on this. Having human readable source code could help speed runners finding new glitches to take advantage of.

That being said.. I am looking forward to seeing people having free hands with the code. Making mods, unofficial bug-fix patches and ports. Maybe we’ll see a version running on the Switch at 1080p widescreen @60fps with hi-res textures and mod support.

It’s all possible with source code.

Re: Zelda 64's Game Code Has Been Successfully Reverse-Engineered, Making Mods And Ports Possible

DaniPooo

@BlueOcean sure it might help a bit. But it doesn’t seem to make it easy. If you check their progress page https://zelda64.dev/progress.html

The Majoras Mask decompilation GitHub has been around since 2018. This kind of work takes time. They still have to manually reverse everything (which takes time). But yes I believe they it will help a bit having OOT decompiled. But I would not expect it to be easy work

Re: This Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Randomiser Moves Everything Around And Steals Your Items

DaniPooo

@Gamer_Zeus Well it doesn’t have to be illegal.
Hacking your Switch or Wii U is not illegal, dumping your own game is not illegal, running it within an emulator is not illegal.
Running mod files on a console is not illegal.

Sure if you illegally download the game to do this then yes it’s illegal. And most people who mod their Nintendo games are most likely pirating as well.

Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer

DaniPooo

Some of you guys just don’t understand.
I agree, the Switch does not need to get more powerful. People will buy it and enjoy it anyway and Nintendo will still make big money.

Nintendo is not competing in the same ballpark as Sony and MS.
And that’s because Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crosing, Metroid, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Splatoon, ARM’s and so on.

They don’t need to compete spec wise when they have so many great exclusive, the lower price and an image of being family friendly.

Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer' Is Generating A Lot Of Dislikes

DaniPooo

I mean, I can easily afford it. But I think the price is too high for this. I don’t get the Animal Crossing thing, not everyone play this game. It’s weird… the retro catalog makes more sense but the price is too steep. For that price they should give us some more general features. Perhaps allowing us to permanently buy the retro games we want to keep and give us discounts on Switch games.
Perhaps give us access to some new social feature.. They should really have a look at what Sony and Microsoft offer their customers.

Re: Wish Kingdom Hearts Was Native On Switch? A True Port Is Still "Undecided"

DaniPooo

@Kirigirisu So you you’re not aware that a huge part of the Switch players prefer playing in handheld mode, many of them play while traveling. Playing cloud versions does not work well on the go.
It does not even work that well over Wi-Fi. It introduces input lag, and anyone who have defeated some KH super bosses like Sephiroth will probably tell you that input lag would make these battles very very frustrating.

Re: Video: Why Didn't Square Enix Port The Kingdom Hearts Collection To Switch?

DaniPooo

Well this is pretty much aligned with what I believed to be the case, only I’m still baffled over the fact that Square Enix chose to go this route with 1.5+2.5. I agree that it would probably take a lot of work and time. But it would definitely be more than possible.
And I think it should be worth it. But they probably thought of it too late and when the Switch is now getting rather old, who knows.. in 2 years we might have the Switch 2 announced. Then they will probably not be selling as many copies as they need to make good money on the game.

Re: Nintendo Says It's Continuously Working On Improving The Switch Joy-Con

DaniPooo

It’s weird, I replaced my joycons three times due to the drift issue. But my Switch Lite has no drift issues so far. And I had my Lite for quite a long time now. It might very well mean that Nintendo has indeed improved the wear resistance. Also after last time I replaced my joycons I had only minor instances of drifting which was resolved by blowing air into it and/or recalibration. Nothing major like with my old joycons that all became unusable after only a short time

Re: Rumour: Insider Says N64 Is Coming To Switch Online, Believes It Will Introduce A "Higher-Priced" Subscription Tier

DaniPooo

@RadioHedgeFund
But why compare the n64 to GameCube?
And why talk about which one was more revolutionary?
Why bring in Sony in the discussion?

The N64 was a huge deal when it came out, it was the first Nintendo console to be focusing on 3D primarily.
It was Nintendos step into that realm. (And no I don’t really count starfox and doom for snes). The controller was unique and actually revolutionary in many ways, it was the first console to have an analog stick as far as I am aware.

But non of this matters, they have released NES, SNES and next chronologically would be N64, talking about what was revolutionary or not I think is a bit off topic

Re: Rumour: Insider Says N64 Is Coming To Switch Online, Believes It Will Introduce A "Higher-Priced" Subscription Tier

DaniPooo

@RadioHedgeFund The Nintendo 64 was revolutionary enough for Nintendo.
The controller in particular is very unique.

Ocarina of time would not have been running on PS1 and if it did it would look like absolute horror.

I don’t even know why you are talking about this? What does the PlayStation have to do with them perhaps releasing a N64 controller? I can tell you one thing, they definitely will not release a PS1 controller.

Re: Rumour: It Looks Like Nintendo Will Soon Unveil A New Controller For Switch

DaniPooo

Oh N64 controller would be amazing if they tweaked the thumb stick a bit to fix some of it’s problems.

I don’t know if a GB style controller would make much sense much sense. Maybe if it’s s like joy-cons. The GB was portable so I guess a game boy controller would have to make portable play more game boy like then. Since the game boy pretty much had the same controller layout as the NES, one controller for TV use brings little to nothing new to the table.

Also it would break the trend of making controller replicas, because now they’re making a game boy themed controller and not a replica.

I dunno, I want to believe it’s wireless n64 controller or new improved and fixed joycons

Re: Digital Foundry Weighs In With First Impressions Of Crysis 3 On Switch

DaniPooo

@liveswired
Read the article I posted also didn’t the PS3 use 256Mb GDDR3 + 256Mb XDR?
Yes the Switch has more and speedier memory and Will handle some scenarios much better than the Xbox360 and PS3 because of this. But the PS3 has a more powerful CPU than the Switch, that is something I’m quite certain of.
I still believe that games that utilized the PS3 to 100% efficiently, will have a hard time running better or even just as good on the Switch… not because of the memory, but because of processing power required.

Re: Digital Foundry Weighs In With First Impressions Of Crysis 3 On Switch

DaniPooo

@mantarobuster300
Read this article
https://gamingbolt.com/the-untapped-potential-of-the-ps3s-cell-processor-and-how-naughty-dog-tamed-the-beast

The PS3 had loads of untapped potential. It explain why for instance Skyrim ran so poorly.

Short explanation: most game engines was made for dualcore and the cell was multi core and not only that is had a strange architecture that was very difficult to develop for. Most developers just didn’t know how or even bother.

Re: Digital Foundry Weighs In With First Impressions Of Crysis 3 On Switch

DaniPooo

@mantarobuster300 here’s the thing. I don’t think the Switch could run something like The Last of Us as well as it ran on the PS3. Or even Uncharted 2 and 3. Not many developers did take full advantage of the Cell processor. And many games was first made for PC or 360 and then ported to PS3. And these usually wasn’t optimized well for the cell architecture.

The Cell processor had a lot more power than most games showed. Developers stated over and over again how difficult it was to develop for.

I believe theoretically the PS3 is more powerful than the Switch, but due to the complexity of the hardware that didn’t shine through very often.

Re: Digital Foundry Weighs In With First Impressions Of Crysis 3 On Switch

DaniPooo

@BloodNinja then show me facts. I also used to have Skyrim on PS3. And I remember the frame-rate being very unstable and the load times crazy long. But of course that was the out of the box experience. Even after all the updates I remember thinking “this is not ideal”… the Switch version just run smoother and more stable. It looks better too

Since you don’t backup you claims then I will.
https://youtu.be/snPuYohBukk

And
https://youtu.be/RbuKRH0aHRM

It’s OK to be a PS3 fan, but don’t go and spread false information and call people liars.
The fact is that the Switch performs better overall than the PS3 in all but perhaps one area, load times..
And that’s only if you put an SSD in the PS3. I haven’t compared this myself.

But I know that the Switch loads faster that the PS3 out of the box setup.

I’m starting to wonder if you are mistaking the PS3 with the PS4 or something
