Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

DaniPooo

@Turbo857

My understanding of these words when it comes to the video game industry has little to do with Graphics or story (Except reboot).
It's really quite simple.

A remaster:
They take the original game and update it to meet a more modern standard

A remake:
The make a completely new codebase, they basically rewrite the entire game from scratch

A reboot:
Same as a Remake but they take the game in a new direction in some ways (story, gameplay or both)

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

DaniPooo

@ChipBoundary

Why do you think it makes more sense for a reboot to be a prequel or a sequel rather than a complete start from the beginning?

To me The Spider-Man movies are a perfect example of reboot.
also the old batman movies vs the new batman movies.

And old Halloween vs New Halloween.
The new Halloween takes a different approach and tells a different story on how Michael Myers grew to become the serial killer. while the old movie focused more on the present.

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

DaniPooo

@ChipBoundary

Those definitions does actually apply just fine onto what I am saying as well.

where in those definitions does it state that a remake has anything to do with story?

You have your own idea of what is "restarted" and what is "remade".
You came to the conclusion it's about the story.

But it's not actually when we are talking about Remaster and Remake

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

DaniPooo

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

DaniPooo

@ChipBoundary Remake or remaster has absolutely nothing to do with story.

Remake is if they rebuilt the game from the ground up

Remaster is if they take the existing game and provide updates to it.
Remaster is a word that comes from the film and music industry.
It's when you take some old original asset and improve it.

A reboot is like a reimagined version.

Definition from wikipedia:
"A reboot discards continuity to re-create its characters, plotlines and backstory from the beginning. It has been described as a way to "rebrand" or "restart an entertainment universe that has already been established"."

Think of the Spiderman Movies for example. Or Final Fantasy VII "Remake"

FFVII "Remake" is not even the same genre as the original.

Calling that a remake, that's like saying they you are going to remake Tetris but you change the gameplay into a space invaders style game where you are shooting Tetris blocks falling from above.

Then it's not a remake, it's possibly a reboot.

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

DaniPooo

It's so funny how this company has absolutely no idea about the definition of a remake vs remaster vs reboot.

he says that it's not a remake because the story doesn't change at all. But if the changed the story it would be less of a remake and more of a reboot.

a remaster would basically just be an update to the original game making it look and maybe run better.

A remake would be if they set out to make a new version of the game from scratch. FFIV for NDS or the pixel remasters are good examples of remakes.

A reboot would be if they made a new reimagined version from scratch, only using some core ideas from the original.

FFVII "Remake" is actually more of a reboot than a remake.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Datamine Might Have Leaked Details About Future DLC Tracks

DaniPooo

@lighteningbolt79 That's why I said they need to speed it up.
Do the math, if they keep releasing two per year then they won't be able to meet that schedule.

they release two cups each time. and there is 12 cups in total.
that's four cup a year. 12/4 = 3. So three years.
That's the end of 2024.

And by that time the Switch is like 7 years old and I think it will have a successor by that time.
Or at the very least I think a successor will have been announced.

Release dates:
N64 (release 1996) to gamecube: 5 years
Gamecube (release 2001) to Wii: 5 years
Wii (release 2006) to Wii U: 6 years
Wii U (release 2012) to Switch: 5 years
Switch (release 2017) to ???: 6-7 years?

Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon Snap For The Switch Online Expansion Pack

DaniPooo

@Anti-Matter

It’s ok if you don’t wanna pay to play a game.
I get that.

What I don’t get and certainly can’t stand behind is the disregard for any game that is a certain age or was release for a certain console.

I think that is very narrow minded..
Some of the best games ever are even older, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy VI, Zelda - A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Street Fighter 2 and the list goes on.

Oh and the N64 was way more powerful than the PS1, it just had a terribly limited storage capacity on the cartridges which held it back.

Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon Snap For The Switch Online Expansion Pack

DaniPooo

@Anti-Matter I really don’t understand how you are thinking. I have been exploring many franchises that are older than the games I grew up with. A good game is still good and worth checking out regardless of how the graphics look.

And if you are already paying for the Nintendo subscription you really have no reason not to check it out as you get the game with the membership

Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon Snap For The Switch Online Expansion Pack

DaniPooo

@Anti-Matter Too bad some people only care about graphics, this game is actually really fun and has a lot going for it.

I would argue that this game is in some ways more fun than New Pokémon Snap.

For instance you can cause Pokémon to evolve. And there are some interesting puzzle like challenges.

Both games are cool, but I think I am more likely to replay the original

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Horii Receives GDC Lifetime Achievement Award

DaniPooo

Dragon Quest builders 3 would be great. the second entry was such a big improvement over the first title.
But I still felt like there was loads of potential for even more improvements to the gameplay. Especially to the end game.

I love how the games identifies your creations mabes on criteria met. I think they could take that furter.
Maybe even recognizing a village once you meet certain criteria (Maybe number of buildings + special buildings) and then would let you name your villages. Maybe even be able to make cities eventually. Perhaps establishing trade routes between them.

That's something I really would enjoy

Re: Feature: I'll Never Be A Hacker, But Games About Programming Make Me Feel Like I'm Satoru Iwata

DaniPooo

I like making games using programming, I don’t enjoy playing programming games that much though.
I probably would have enjoyed them more when I was a kid or teenager.

I like the freedom of general purpose programming.
I remember making a game using winapi and C++.
It was super slow but it worked.

And just the idea of using windows GUI assets and windows to make a game was for me an interesting idea

I guess I enjoy making use of thing differently than how they were intended to be used. I guess that’s why I am all over console hacking news. Like running Ubuntu on your Switch. Neat!

Re: Random: Phil Spencer Did A "Crash Course" In N64 And PlayStation When He Joined Microsoft's Xbox Team

DaniPooo

Well I am pretty sure nintendo intended the n64 controller for 2 handed users but with 2 grip configurations.

I found that I mostly played in the analoge stick grip mode but I think pokemon stadium ditched that mode and went for the d-pad mode. I could be wrong though, this was ages ago.

And even so I think that some games gave all buttons functionality, which probably meant that the devs didn't understand the controller.

Re: Video: PlayStation Vita Apps Are Up And Running On Switch, Here's A Look

DaniPooo

@SwitchForce Why not? Is NintendoLife owned by Nintendo or do they have some sort of agreement with Nintendo that is prohibiting them from covering these kind of news?

I understand that if NintendoLife is partnering with Nintendo in any way, then this could be a problem.

But otherwise I really don’t see a problem here. It is news related to a Nintendo console after all. Even if it’s unofficial stuff

Re: Video: PlayStation Vita Apps Are Up And Running On Switch, Here's A Look

DaniPooo

@nessisonett I don’t know of I would call it completely ”natively”.
As I understand it there is a level of real time translation required. (Especially for graphics)

But compared to emulation this should perform much better.
I think this should work in a similar fashion to Wine or Nintendont.
A compatibility layer.

If the shader translation is getting sorted out then I believe this have the potential of running commercial Vita games at full speed or even better performance than on the Vita.

And if they get to the point where games are running without issues then I suppose they could start looking into additional features like increased resolution and FPS patched and the like to enhance the games beyond what the Vita is capable of.

Compatibility layers usually do not impact performance much compared to emulation, and the Switch is no doubt more powerful than the Vita so it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Re: You Likely Won't Be Able To Catch 'Em All In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

DaniPooo

@Royalblues I think no one expect to be able to catch all in one game. But what people want is to have the option to use Pokémon home to transfer all their Pokémon to the new games.
But since the new games don’t allow this some people are getting disappointed.

I think it’s a shame that no new games have support for all Pokémon anymore. But the fact that the Pokémon company is releasing so many games these days makes me care less about that.

Re: Zelda: Majora's Mask Cutscene On Switch Apparently "More Accurate To N64" Than Wii Virtual Console Emulation

DaniPooo

@Basicbird No, that is not how it works at all.
The games back then was created in such a way that they were locked to run at a specific framerate. And in many cases that goes very deeply. Even down to animations and on some consoles sound.

That means that if you were to unlock the framerate or increase it then you would end up with issues such as animation running too fast, broken physics, broken sound or other issues.

I am not sure if the Switch have enough power to emulate N64 at 60fps if they went through the trouble of patching the roms and fixing all the issues, but I don’t think the power of the console is the main issue. If that was the case then I bet we would be able to run ocarina of time at 60fps on PC via emulation.

No it comes down to how the games are built.

We might see a homebrew port of Ocarina of time running at 60 fps natively on the Switch in the near future, since that game has been decompiled.

Re: Random: "I'm Able To Trust Sony More Than Nintendo" - Japan Reacts To The Closure Of The Wii U And 3DS eShops

DaniPooo

Why are people getting so surprised and upset about this.
We all knew this was going to eventually happen.

If you want to keep playing all the games that you bought then just invest in large enough storage and download all your purchased games.

Then make sure to maintain backup of that storage, just in case.

You didn’t purchase the service of re-downloading the games forever.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Finally Getting DLC

DaniPooo

@Spider-Kev "Three were D.o.A" man if that happened to me I would probably not be very fond of the Wii U.

Well it didn't happen to me and in fact mine is still working just fine. Now I mainly use it for Wii backwards compatibility and the Zelda remasters (Wind Waker and Twilight Princess) as almost all good games have been ported and improved for the Switch.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Finally Getting DLC

DaniPooo

@Spider-Kev

I am talking about hardware features.

N64 added hardware for 3D acceleration. And was a first for analogue sticks

Gamcube finally took the step to optical media, it also introduced pretty substantial upgrade to the controller. that I would argue allowed for new gameplay.

Wii added motion controls

Wii U - "WiiU are basically the same machine" I bet you never had one or played on one. It's not the same. But it has a built in wii as well for backward compatibility. Yes they all use PowerPC CPU's, but not the same powerPC CPU's...

The controlpad was a unique hardware feature. It allowed for more than just playing the game while someone else was using the TV.
Example: having the map on the controlpad while playing the game on the TV. Amiibo introduction.

The Switch: First hybrid, 3D rumble, and an IR port that almost no games are using

NES-SNES was more or less just improved hardware and some added buttons on the controller. Nothing unique that noone else was doing though.

Re: 'Zelda' Meets 'Super Mario Maker' In Super Dungeon Maker

DaniPooo

Looks fun but I hate the graphics.
I like pixel art but this looks weird. The sprites has so many pixels and there is so many colours on the screen that it looks like an Indie game rather than a retro style title.

at this point it would look better with hi-res sprites.

Re: Chrono Cross Is Getting A Remaster, And Boy Does It Look Rough

DaniPooo

@Damo I am 99% sure that it's not a port but some sort of emulation with upscaling and patched in assets and overlayed things such as portraits and text. Similar to how the other Square Enix "Remasters" work.

In that sense, the definition remaster, does apply. Remaster simply means the same game but enhanced.

The term comes from the music and film industries. In music for instance a remaster is basically just improving the sound quality by taking the original instrument tracks and doing a better job at mixing and mastering them (Usually using better tools). It rarely means that the artist has to record anything new.

Re: Chrono Cross Is Getting A Remaster, And Boy Does It Look Rough

DaniPooo

"And Boy Does It Look Rough"

Common, what did you expect, it's a PS1 remaster for crying out loud We all know that this is running in some sort of emulator rendering at a higher resolution and enhancements on top.

It's what Square style do. They didn't save sourcecode from back in the day.

It's not like they would put resources into decompiling this title for a remaster. It wasn't even THAT succesful.

It actually looks better than what I would have expected.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Finally Getting DLC

DaniPooo

@A01 It's Nintendo... People will always buy their Mario Kart games.
My guess is that Mario Kart 9 will be for the "Switch 2" featuring better graphics and features unique to that console.
(Nintendo rarely just makes new hardware that is just "the same but better")

And then it's pretty much given that Nintrendo with make sure to let us know that the game will be supported and getting new content over the lifetime of the Console.

Re: Sword & Shield Becomes Second Best-Selling Pokémon Game Of All Time

DaniPooo

@Dr_Lugae because people were getting tired of Pokémon at that time. Many people never played these games or it was the last games they played before taking a pokebreak.
But look these games are still pretty far up the list.

I think B/W and B2/W2 both are some of the best in the franchise.
The reason the didn’t sell well was simply that the pokefever was cooling down.

People had their fill of the formula at this point.

Re: Sword & Shield Becomes Second Best-Selling Pokémon Game Of All Time

DaniPooo

This is not an indication that Sword and shield are better or worse than any other Pokémon game.

It has more to to with how many people have a compatible console.

Red/green/blue I can understand. The franchise took the world by storm. Not only that.. you where good to play it as long as you had a game boy, game boy pocket, game boy light or game boy color.
All very successful handhelds.

The reason Sword and Shield sells so well is mostly because so many people have a Switch.

Re: Talking Point: A Poképro And A Pokénoob Discuss Pokémon Legends: Arceus

DaniPooo

@KateGray I would definitely recommend PLA to a non Pokémon fan though, more so than any other Pokémon game.

I think it’s a game that can appeal to a broader audience than any other Pokémon game.

However, maybe the fact that there is Pokémon creatures in the game will make some people dismiss it as a game purely for children. They might even label me as a man child. What do I care when a game is good, it’s good!
