Re: 50 Best Game Boy Games Of All Time

DaniPooo

@shoeses The depends on what you count as gameboy color games. Yes if you go by the definition that they say gameboy color on the cover and displays color when played on a gameboy color, then sure.

However Gold and Silver was playable on the regular gameboy, something that true gameboy color games were not.

Gold and silver did not take advantage of the extra horsepower of the gameboy color.

They are something in between a gameboy and gameboy color game.

Re: 50 Best Game Boy Games Of All Time

DaniPooo

I think that technically Pokemon Gen 2 can be counted as gameboy titles, at least gold and silver. Crystal is the only true GBC game, the other two are playable on a regular gameboy.

Re: Nintendo Has Confirmed It Won't Be At Gamescom This Year

DaniPooo

You know, I bet Nintendo is preparing to reveal the "Switch 2" or whatever they will call it and just do their own presentation for it.

I'd be extremely surprised if they don't show it off before the end of the summer.

I also think it's quite likely to be in June actually.. Because they will probably want to surprise us with some late summer and fall releases for the Switch, It would be extremely unusual if they don't.

Why not unveil the Switch successor at the same time, because let's face it, they probably don't have enough upcoming Switch titles to make an interesting Nintendo Direct with only Switch games.

Whether or not it will take the form of a Nintendo Direct or a live presentation is something I don't have a strong guess for.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from Apple and made it an all digital event.

Re: Pokémon TV Has Officially Ended On Nintendo Switch

DaniPooo

@tseliot Another person cluelessly hating on Nintendo just for the hell of it.. It's getting old man..

There is an official YouTube app on the Switch already.
I don't use it since I have 2 laptops, 2 phones, a tablet, a smart TV and a PS5 that all have YouTube apps.

But hey at least there is a Nintendo Switch YouTube app, and it works pretty well. I mean you won't get 4k60fps HDR video playback, but that's ok for a 7 year old handheld gaming device I think.

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?

DaniPooo

I only really liked the third games when they put in new features and story elements and fixed issues however it's not really needed anymore since we have internet and can update existing games with all sorts of new content and fixes.

Sure you could argue that "what do I do when nintendo shuts down their servers and I can't update anymore, I want the updates on physical media!"

That's a valid point for sure and I hope that this is a problem that can be fixed somehow.

Personally I think the way to go then would be to offer a physical Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - "Complete edition" with all expansions and patches once the development on the game has ended.

Not everyone is going to care about this product, but for the people who do I think this solution should be good enough.

I think that would be better than releasing a third game.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario vs. Donkey Kong Drops To Second As Final Fantasy Makes A Splash

DaniPooo

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is for me more fun than Final Fantasy XVI. It's a pretty awesome game to be honest.
Even though I get a bit tired with all the mini games the game throws at me, but Final Fantasy XVI didn't have any mini games as far as I remember, so I guess they decided to really double down on it with this one

Anyway, sorry for going a bit off rails, The game is great so I am not surprised that it's selling...

Re: It Looks Like Gold And Silver Will Feature In The Next 'Pokémon Presents'

DaniPooo

Oooh I would absolutely love to return to a past Johto inspired by Heian period or Nara period in a new Legends game.

I doubt this will happen but I feel like the "Samurai age" would be a good fit for a past Johto since it's already inspired by Kyoto.

But if I had to guess I would say that we won't see anything major unless it's something developed by a partner studio like the Diamond and Pearl remakes. Because I bet that they internally are working on a game for Nintendo's next system and even if they plan on releasing it on both the Switch and "Switch 2" I bet they would wait with announcing it until the "Switch 2" is unveiled.

It's more likely that we'll see some gen2 distribution event for Scarlet and Violet I guess.

However the fact that we have ancient paradox Pokemon: Walking Wake (Suicune), Gouging Fire (Entei) and Raging Bolt (Raikou) in scarlet and violet could possibly be seen as a hint. Perhaps Legends: Johto Beasts will be a thing

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Version 3.0.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

DaniPooo

I have hope that Pokemon on the Switch 2 will use a better game engine and that the new games will run a lot better due to increased horsepower.

I think that the move to open world Pokemon is here to stay (for better or worse), but I think there's a lot here that can be improved.

for starters I think it's kinda boring that there's Pokemon everywhere, so many of them that it's difficult to avoid them..

I feel like it would be a bit better if we actually had to look for them, and also I think it would make sense if the Pokémon actually utilised the environment better. For example some bird Pokemon might sit on tree branches or rooftops, perhaps they build nests up there, some Pokemon might be playing with each other in the wild. perhaps a smaller Pokemon like Pichu would run at the sight of the player and hide behind a rock.

I would like stuff like that a lot if would make the world feel more alive. as things are right now it's very very simple in terms of Pokemon behavioural AI.

Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour

DaniPooo

"The new device from the Kyoto-based games maker will be responsible for a doubling in shipments of so-called amusement displays in 2024, Hayase said in Tokyo on Friday."

This is not the same as Switch 2 launching in 2024.

It's likely that Nintendo orders the displays well in advance of launch for console manufacturing.
That does not mean that the release is going to be the same year.

Re: 3DS Emulator Citra Is Coming To Meta Quest Next Week

DaniPooo

@mariomaster96 Wait, you're telling me it's illegal to make personal back-up copies of the games you bought?

I was under the impression that it was only illegal to share those copies with other people but that you are free you own personal copies and make personal modifications to anything you own basically.

Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

DaniPooo

I think Nintendo's next system could very well be a hybrid system that will be similar to the Switch but more powerful.

But I am not so sure that it will be called a "Switch" something.
That could end up being as confusing as the move from Wii to Wii U. I doubt that Nintendo wan't that to happen again.

Perhaps they go with something that's different but similar to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Swap, Nintendo Flip, Nintendo Pull or Nintendo Shift for example. Of course the name has to relfect the features of the system so that depends on what Nintendo has up their sleeves.

If they decide to still go with "Switch", then they're better off doing something like "Nintendo Switch 2", A name that makes it clear that it's not just an upgraded model, a "Switch Pro" if you will, but an actual next generation console.

But personally I would love if they named it the Super Switch since I was around during the time of the SNES and have a lot of love for that machine.

But my gut tells me that it won't be called a Switch

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

DaniPooo

I understand, "the grass is greener on the other side" mentality.

But I definitely think there's a couple of things that the older games did better than both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. And if he is making a new Zelda I think he's best off by borrowing ideas from whatever worked great in the past while adding new stuff.

I think a lot of people would like proper Zelda dungeons again I know I would. I loved the dungeons in Skyward Sword and I loved the dungeon locations of Ocarina of Time.

One other thing I think was better in the older games was the usable items (not necessarily weapons).

I think the idea that the world is completely open right from the start was interesting and fun, but I don't think it's better than gradually giving the player more and more freedom. getting rid of restrictions in the game can be a very rewarding feeling.
That's what the older games did so well I think with the items.
Like when you found the hook shot being able to reach new places that has been teasing you. the feeling of reward was real. And I think some of that got lost in Breath of the Wild.

I am also still not sure that I think breakable weapons are a nice thing.
I get it, it's a huge world and there needs to be things to do in it.
So I guess breakable weapons makes sense in a way.
But then I would prefer I guess to have a broken sword in my inventory that I have to farm materials to repair.

I think a better system would be a system where you can only obtain one of each weapon.
So you get the Royal Claymore and it's up to you to take care of it.
Perhaps have a gradual durability meter where the weapon will do less and less damage the more dull it gets, you can prevent the sword from breaking by visiting a blacksmith who will restore the durability (similar to how it works in a lot of MMRPG's)
Or you can do it yourself by using whetstones that can be farmed.
Some more rare and higher grade whetstones can also add a temporary damage boost on the weapon.

If the weapon break then you can repair the weapon at a blacksmith if you have the required materials (farmable materials that will be harder to come by the better the weapon is)

I think that a system like this would feel more rewarding than having 50 swords in your inventory.

But other then that, I like the large open world and the general feel of BotW an TotK

Re: Capcom Unveils Monster Hunter Wilds, Coming In 2025

DaniPooo

Lol, obviously there's no mention of any Nintendo console release for a game that is scheduled for 2025 hahaha

The Switch will definitely have been replaced by that point but until the new system is unveiled the game studios has to be quiet about it.

It's possible that this will be released on the Switch 2 if the rumours about hardware specifications holds some truth.

And I do believe that this is in Capcoms best interest as Munster Hunter sells well on Nintendo hardware.

But only time will tell.

Re: Jet Force Gemini's Widescreen Mode Reportedly "Broken" On Switch

DaniPooo

@fabiop Can you name one n64 emulator that works "perfectly" and that has not been in development for a many many years before it was considered accurate?

You have to understand that emulators such as Project64 and Mupen64 has been in active development since the early 2000s, and was for many years highly inaccurate.

And even so, these emulators are not perfect.

Take Mupen64 and try to use it on a hacked Switch you end'll up with a worse experience than using Nintendos own emulator.

You just try to play Pokemon Snap or Majoras Mask on the Mupen64 emulator for Switch.
You'll get slowdowns and broken features when using Mupen64 (An emulator that has been in active development since before 2001)

I think Nintendos N64 emulator for the Switch has got quite decent.
Yeah it left a lot to be desired when it was first released, but man they did a good job going back and fixing a lot of the bigger issues.

Re: Jet Force Gemini's Widescreen Mode Reportedly "Broken" On Switch

DaniPooo

@rotekps_aniger Yeah well that's pretty much my point as well.
And you are exactly right sir.

Back in the 90s there was a lot differences in how to build video game consoles compared to modern machines. We did not have all the standards in place and game companies got creative.
Just think about the SuperFX chip for Snes for a moment.

There was not only different CPU architectures than what we use today, but usually they had unique different approaches to a lot of things, For example the framerate and audio was often tied to the clockspeed.

Even with Ocarina of Time decompiled and the game ported to modern machines, we still don't have an unlocked frame rate in the game.

Because the animations are tied and made specifically to the frame rate.
Apparently it was easier to build a system to interpolate the objects positions in 3 dimensional space in real time rather than just making the animations work at different frame rates.

That's why I say that the 3DS is probably easier to emulate on the Steam Deck, because even if the Steam Deck use x86 and the 3DS use ARM both systems are "modern" enough to work on a lot of same principals.

But yeah there's a lot of things to consider.
And people seems to think that a system should be easy to emulate just because it's old and slow compared to todays computers.

This is not always the case

That being said fixing this issue in the emulator is possible if they are willing to put in the work I imagine.

Re: Jet Force Gemini's Widescreen Mode Reportedly "Broken" On Switch

DaniPooo

@fabiop have you ever programmed an emulator? Do you know how it works? Have you any idea why it's tricky to make n64 emulators?

N64 is not an easy system to emulate correctly.
Just think about pj64 for example, I don't know how long it took before it was able to do proper frame buffer at higher resolutions, what 15-20 years?

There's the constant balance between making a fast emulator or making an accurate emulator.
Because if you make a cycle accurate n64 emulator it will definitely require a lot of horsepower to run well.
(More than the Switch has anyway)

Emulating the 3DS on SteamDeck is arguably easier than doing n64 on the Switch.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?

DaniPooo

@GregamanX That's not the way Miyamoto operates.

You have to put yourself in his shoes for this. He had very little involvement in Breath of The Wild and I think it's safe to assume that he want's to make a movie that is undoubtedly Zelda in every way.

That is why I think we'll see an original story that takes inspiration from all the Zelda games.
I am pretty sure that the movie will focus on the things that most Zelda games have in common.

Here's a list of thing I bet we will see:
Link
Zelda
Ganon and/or Ganondorf
Triforce
Epona
Moblins
Darknuts
Kees
Zora (Enemy Zora or the Zora race)

Items:
Master Sword
Hylian Shield
Green Tunic
Bombs
Bow
Boomerang

Those are some reoccurring things in the franchise that I feel quite certain that we will see.

However I think there will be a lot more. Most likely hundreds of references to the many Zelda games.

As for the story, I actually think that they might take more inspiration from Ocarina of Time than Breath of the Wild, But I feel strongly that it will be it's own story that just draw inspiration from other titles.

Miyamoto has a tendency to be very keen on preservation of a franchise's image and feel. It's only when he take a step aside from a game that we see some new unique takes on a franchise. Just compare New Super Mario Bros to Super Mario Wonder for example, he nearly cancelled elephant Mario.
He has been giving the teams a lot more freedom lately.

However, he is not working with his teams at Nintendo this time, I think he will be more strict in what he allows.
And think he has a clear vision of what a Zelda a movie should be and I'm certain that he has some personal love for the titles he has been working on himself. And yes I know that the only game where he was listed as the director was the first game.
However as a producer he did help direct a lot of Zelda games, however my understanding is that he has been giving Aonuma more and more freedom over the years.

So yeah really do not think the movie will be based on any particular game or feature a specific reincarnation of Link that we've seen in the games.

It will be it's own thing, similar to how the Mario movie was it's own thing. I am certain of it.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

DaniPooo

@axelhander

It's not nonsensical, It's just a use that you are not accustomed to apparently. Yes control customisation options is definitely an accessibility feature.

But the person you replied to said that the game is accessible, That can mean many things it doesn't have to mean that it has to be an accessibility features such as control customisation.
And I think it was made clear that this person did not talk about controls, but the actual gameplay. As in: "easy to get into".

I could say that McDonald's is an accessible fast-food restaurant chain. Not because they have great focus on making life easy for disabled or handicapped people, but because they are everywhere, they have reasonable prices that most people can afford and their menu items are generally inoffensive towards most people no matter the age group and ethnicity.

On the other hand a high-end super expensive fine dining restaurant that focus on snails and are located at a small island that you have to take an expensive private plane to reach is not very accessible. Partly because it's difficult for the average person to visit it, partly because not a lot of people eat snails (if you consider the entire population of the world) and partly because not a lot of people can afford it.

Accessible is a word that is not limited to one specific thing within the gaming community, keep that in mind before you correct others on what they say.

Re: Talking Point: Who Could Play Link, Zelda, Ganondorf In The Zelda Movie? - 25 Actors Who Could Fit The Bill

DaniPooo

@Ryu_Niiyama Dude it's a pain to read through a block of text like that, please learn to format your text properly.

I am not saying that they are a certain existing race of humans.
I am saying that they are based on distinctive things and human races and culture.

And yes it generalised, it fantasy fictional races...

Would you deny that Trolls in World of Warcraft seems to be based on Jamaican and Cuban ethnicity with their accent and that use of the Woodoo? So if they featured wow trolls in an upcoming Warcraft movie, then I would prefer a Caribbean person to play the role.

You keep talking about phenotypes, but the only games where we have seen that is Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom I think. And even though there's some variety the variety is narrow enough to give us an average picture of each race.

Yes there's some dark-skinned Hylians in breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and there's some pale skinned Gerudos.

But looking at the general picture zoomed out and taking things such as culture, clothing, choice of weapons and climate of choice, it's gives each race a clear picture.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

DaniPooo

@Diowine

I see, To me it sounded very much like you were complaining about exploring regions you already explored in Breath of The Wild. Perhaps I misinterpreted what you said.

Perhaps it was partly because I already read many people complaining about having to explore Hyrule again, even saying that the game was "Boring" because of that. Perhaps I thought you were coming from the same place.

Hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I just think that it's strange to complain about having to explore the same Hyrule again if that kind of been the thing about the game that we all know was going to be the case long before the game was released.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

DaniPooo

@axelhander There's no such thing as **actual** accessibility.
Accessibility is a word that can be applied in multiple different ways for multiple different things.

You are talking about accessibility in terms of making the game accessible to play for as many people as possible from a technical standpoint.

And Milliag is talking about accessible in terms of the gameplay.

You probably agree that a tutorial can be classified as an accessibility feature? To teach you how to play the game.

But if the game is played out in such a way that the tutorial is baked into the gameplay in a way that makes it almost invisible such as in many Nintendo games, that makes them very accessible in terms of how easy it is for the average person to jump into a game and start getting enjoyment out of it.

If a game requires many lengthy tutorials and have very complex gameplay that is difficult to wrap your head around then that's what would be considered the opposite.

Both of you are correct in your definitions of accessible.
You are just talking about two different things.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

DaniPooo

@Diowine But you knew that was going to be the case long before the game was released, so why do you sound disappointed? Why did you buy the game even? It's a sequel to Breath of the Wild we knew this.. We knew it was going to take place in the same Hyrule.

And if that's not the game you wanted to play then why did you buy it?

If your friends are asking you to join them for a pizza evening, are you gonna sit there and complain about the pizza not being a hamburger.. Probably not, because you knew it was going to be a pizza before you agreed to join.

Now the Breath of The wild tale is over and now you can look forward to the next big Zelda game which will most definitely be something new.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

DaniPooo

@Diowine Dude I was fully aware that they would re-use the Hyrule map, I never expected anything else really.
Most people expected and were fine with this.

The depths though was an unexpected surprise, and given that it's a map that is as huge as Hyrule overworld I'd say it was a quite big surprise to everyone.

When you say that it offers little variety can you please explain what you mean? To me it offers plenty of variety. Sure it isn't as jam packed as the hyrule overworld, but I found myself going to the depths a lot, for side quests, farming materials and just exploration in general.

The sky was probably my least favourite part of the game due to how small it felt compared to the rest.
But I did like the sky diving mini game a lot.

Re: Talking Point: Who Could Play Link, Zelda, Ganondorf In The Zelda Movie? - 25 Actors Who Could Fit The Bill

DaniPooo

@Ryu_Niiyama Lol, No I am not buying that argument.
They are all clearly humanoid species, pretty much everyone in Hyrule.

Meaning that they are based on the human anatomy as they walk upright on 2 legs, have two arm and a head with two eyes a nose and a mouth.

But it doesn't end there. Look at the Hylians, pretty much all of them have pale skin, look at the way they live and their architecture with the medieval looking castles and towns.

They are very clearly based on elves and western humans in a medieval high fantasy setting.

The Gerudos are clearly based on Middle Eastern, Indian and Egyptian people. It's plain to see in, their clothing, the way they look, the music, the geographic climate where they live and the architecture. Their clothing looks like it comes straight out of the animated Aladdin movies.

The Sheika tribe is clearly inspired by Japanese Ninjas with white hair as a twist.

The one tribe that seems most inspired by african people are the Gorons with their culture and bongo drums.

The Rito seems to be inspired by Native American tribes.

The Zora is difficult to pinpoint. They are perhaps the race that is the most unique I guess, they are spear wielding fish people, their architecture is quite unique to the point that I don't have anything really to compare it to. I would probably portray them with CGI and just about anyone could voice them.

Also in pretty much every fantasy story the races are inspired by human races.
That's just the way things go.

Come one you have to see this as well, it's obvious

Re: Talking Point: Who Could Play Link, Zelda, Ganondorf In The Zelda Movie? - 25 Actors Who Could Fit The Bill

DaniPooo

When I think Ganondorf I think a middle eastern or Indian giant man. I don't know any big time actors like that but perhaps Jason Momoa would be a decent fit (since his darker complexion).

I am gonna come out and say it even though some people will probably think it's racist. To me it's important that the actor match the basic looks of the character. And although Ganondorf has a darker skintone he's certainly not black or white. In fact his skin tone almost has a tint of green. Also, he has that large pointy nose. and straight red hair.
It's a quite an unnatural look, but clearly not black ethnicity.

However I definitely am not racist.. there's plenty of great black actors out there who totally rocks! And I would certainly object the same way if a white person played a black character.

All I care about is that the actor resembles the character on a basic natural level, and that the acting performance is good. Call me old-fashioned if you want.

If the character is black then audition for a black actor
If the character is white the audition for a white actor
If the character is ginger the audition for an actual ginger actor
if the character is African albino then look for and actor that fits the bill if possible. If the character is asian then find an asian actor.

easy and not racist

If you are painting a blue sky then you will use primarily blue colours because that is what the blue sky calls for. It's not discrimination against the unused colours. simple as that.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 11th)

DaniPooo

Recently started a new game+ on Final Fantasy XII Zodiac age to get myself ready to take on some difficult challenges that I missed on my first play through and to attempt maxing out my characters gear.

Also played some Mario Kart, got the 3star trophy on 50,100 and 150 cc on the new cups so I feel done for with that for now.
Will of course play it some more later with my girlfriend as that is the game we usually play together

Re: Miyamoto And Avi Arad Have Been Discussing The Zelda Movie For A Decade

DaniPooo

@RareFan I think it will be both of them, as well as all the other Zelda games.

When you saw the Mario movie (Which I assume that you did)
Could you really say that they used a specific game as template?

I know couldn't, it was it's own thing but had references to pretty much all Mario games + the TV show.

I think a Zelda movie by Miyamoto will be somewhat similar in that regard. However perhaps not as jam-packed with funny references, but instead more subtle references.

But most likely there will be a Link, Zelda and Ganon/Ganondorf in the movie (As this trio is the most common throughout the games).
