Re: Nintendo Aims To Reduce Scalping Of "New Hardware"

D_Munk

Yeah I get the feeling that Nintendo are now starting to filter in some discussion about a new system. I hope it'll be backwards compatible too, but if its not, well fair enough. It's not the be all and end all for me.
Now I do get the feeling if they're talking or hinting at a new system now, that next year will be the announcement, and I'm almost certain Metroid Prime 4 will be their launch title, possibly a new Mario 3D title too. They've proven that Metroid is a big seller. I wish it had made it onto Switch, but I've had Breath of the Wild, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remaster and Tears of the Kingdom not to mention Mario Odyssey, Bowsers Fury, all the ports and Mario 8 DLC and Super Smash Ultimate.... the Switch has delivered more than enough imo. Quite happy to let the next system have Metroid Prime 4 etc.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch

D_Munk

The Wii-mote was NOT a novelty. So sick of people calling it that. It was a legit step forward in gaming controls. It made the likes of Metroid Prime, Resident Evil IV, HotD, Ghost Squad, Mario Galaxy legit the very best definitive version of those games. If used properly it put pretty much ever FPS and Lightgun shooter to shame on any other system. It's a pity the Switch doesn't have that functionality for its Docked mode for instance. HotD on Switch is goddawful to play as it is on any system using a gamepad. Metroid Prime on Switch plays really well (it had a decent gamepad control scheme anyway) but it pales compared to the Wii trilogy package imo.

Re: Nintendo Infographic Showcases The Games Featured In June's Direct

D_Munk

Looking forward to a number of these releases.... Mario Wonder and Mario RPG for sure. Sonic Superstars looks like a return to form of Sonic, with dare I say a bit of Mario sprinkled in too.
Star Ocean: The Second Story looks very nice too. Never played it but I might jump in with this one.
Pikmin 4 looks nice, but I dunno if its my type of game. Penny's Big Breakaway might be the 3D Sonic we've been wanting forever, but Sega never gave us
Luigi's Mansion (NDS) looks like it might be another great port, I haven't even played LM3 yet.

Re: Chocobo GP Switch eShop Page Updated With New Release Date

D_Munk

Great this is how it should have been, instead of trying to milk the consumer like a mobile game. Mario Kart 8 did it properly, they released paid for DLC but it was substantial additions and a single purchase.
NOW they've done this, I am willing to actually give it go, because it did look like a great Mario Kart alternative.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

D_Munk

For me its an easy 10. Not because its the perfect game, no game can be perfect. Just that TotK does so much, so well. The design is brilliant, the content is huge. The Sky Islands, The Surface and The Depths.... wow. There are subtle mechanics changes in all three zones as well as secrets to find and places to explore. This game is tougher and requires more strategic decisions to conquer enemy encampments or areas. It does it all so well. Animation is lovely, the art style is solid and consistent, the mechanics are nicely thought out, it just screams quality design. That's my feeling on TotK, it's Nintendo at their best, innovating and entertaining.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom "Hands On" Performance & Resolution Detailed

D_Munk

I don't get the fury some have over the $10 increase in price. You do all live in the same world we do right? You have seen the global prices of EVERYTHING increase dramatically. Not only wages, but transport, production, marketing etc. etc. At some point prices do have to increase. This game has been in development for years, it's had substantial amounts of extra assets and design added to it. Re-work of the current map, addition of extensive new mechanics and sandbox elements. You just don't seem to appreciate the massive amounts of work involved..... but you want it for a cheap price, because you deem it somehow cheaper and lower quality that other games. Oh dear.
I'm gonna enjoy the hell of it I'm sure. I hope others can get past their issues and enjoy it to, cause you'll be missing out for sure.

Re: This Kirby's Dream Land 2 ROM Hack Adds Colour To The Game Boy Classic

D_Munk

Hang on, people are having a go at Nintendo for what? Putting out the original rom as it would appear on a proper GBC? Come on. I mean this looks awesome, but back in the day that cart had to be compatible with both GB and GBC. Besides it isn't even a Nintendo IP really. So let's enjoy the update from these guys and have less of the Nintendo bashing please.

Re: Bowser Defends $70 Zelda Pricing, Nintendo Still "Very Bullish" About Switch

D_Munk

Given how much games cost waaaaaaay back in the 80's and 90's and that they haven't increased with inflation, I think we should think ourselves lucky really. Yes $70 sounds like a lot, but actually the real figure if they kept up with inflation etc. would be well over $100 by now in real terms. Back in the day they charged $100 for Donkey Kong on N64 and similar titles (that was unbelievably expensive back then) so its nothing new really. Also given the recent cost hikes we've seen globally for everything from wages/inflation/materials/shipping etc.), a $10 increase is frankly a tiny increase in comparison.
I would rather pay less, of course I would, but I understand that things can't stand still forever. That's my take anyway.

Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Release

D_Munk

This is not a limited time product. Nintendo have already said that new stock is coming. If people a stupid enough to buy it at those prices then there's no hope for them.
You can download it digitally. There's no shortage. Wait for it to be restocked and get a physical version then. I'm surprised scalpers get away with this stuff nowadays, most consumers should already know that if its not been officially said otherwise, then there will be more stock coming.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 25th)

D_Munk

Metroid Prime: Remastered for me. Goddam I loved this game back on the Cube and Wii. This version is just amazing. Also I am 15hrs into Bubble Bobble, just addicted to the thing. SO playable and the depth of the power-ups is pretty sweet. Even after all this time spent playing, it'll throw in a new power-up variant. Amazing, I never realized how varied it is and how strategic it can be. Only took like 40yrs to appreciate its nuances. Edit: I nearly got my first 1,000,000 score, just came up short on it.

Re: Star Fox Character Designer Celebrates 30th Anniversary With Special Artwork

D_Munk

Now if Nintendo could do a similar style total remake/remaster of the original game on Switch!!!! Yes please. Another Shadow Drop for the 30th Anniversary. ha ha.
Seriously though. Starfox Remastered with hi-definition textures, models, landscapes, music rework, but keep the playability at a smooth 60fps.... come on. I'd be all over that.

Re: Miyamoto: Nintendo Is "Always" Working On Mario, But Isn't Ready For The Next Game Reveal Just Yet

D_Munk

I for one love the fact that Mario platformer isn't pushed out every other year. Besides we've had another Mario platformer, lest we've all forgotten Bowser's Fury?! Ok its a smaller experience, but it might be a taste of what they're working on next So I'm good with that. People complain when franchises release a game a year and they complain when there's nothing for a few years. You just can't please everyone. At least when Nintendo do drop something it tends to be great. No rush Nintendo, take your time bud.

Re: Random: Fan-Made Game Mixes Classic Sonic With Donkey Kong Country

D_Munk

Certainly has a different look to it. But from what I could see it was pretty shallow, collision detection looked terrible, challenge seemed none existent and the animation looked very basic if not broken in places. The DKC link of it being pre-rendered, is a bit tenuous imo. But I'll let that go.
As a fan made demo, it's pretty good I suppose. I'll give them that. Is it worthy of a mention on NL? Hmmm debatable I think. I guess you roped in the DKC link to justify it

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Console Has The Best First-Party Games Lineup?

D_Munk

I've gone Switch on this. BUT I would say pretty much all of them have had outstanding releases though. Switch has been going a fair while now and had some of the best releases of any of its franchises (debatable I know). SNES would be a strong second to me along with the Wii/Gamecube probably. See I've just picked another 3 lol. They were all great in their own ways.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Metroid Prime Remastered

D_Munk

Getting back into Metroid Prime has been a joy. The new control scheme is great and much more modern. The visuals are just superb. If this is where Metroid Prime 4 is going, I'll be very happy with that. It's obvious that Retro/Nintendo have spent some serious time and effort on this. Well done Nintendo, well done.
Now get me MP4....stat!

Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

D_Munk

The amount of ignorance and software snobbery in here is breathtaking. As if a Switch game requires less ability, time and effort to make than a next gen 4k visual style game. There is no difference. Most 4k 'hyper real' visuals are actually a bit easier to make than stylized original assets. There are so many tools, texture libraries and procedural help to make 'realistic' games it's not even funny. I can imagine Nintendo have spent a huge amount of time, had people producing new assets, creating textures and designing game modes and new levels. There is no difference between this or any other game.
£70 is pretty steep, but then the global supply shortages, manufacturing, wage increases, transport cost increases etc. etc. think yourselves lucky that games aren't £100+ nowadays.
Still I get it £70 is a big number, but it is what it is. No-one will force you to buy it. You might have to wait for second hand copies to turn up. I loved BoTW, I WILL be getting this too.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct

D_Munk

LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom, full trailer I think. Then announce that there will be a full dedicated Direct for it in a month or two. I think Pikmin 4 will get a proper gameplay teaser.
Mario Movie might get a final trailer reveal? May be.
Metroid Prime 4 would be amazing but I think we'll have to wait til summer for a megaton shadow drop of it for Holiday season release! DO IT NINTENDO!

Re: Bayonetta 3 Has Sold Over 1 Million Units Since Launch

D_Munk

@Switch_Pro I do if say Nintendo funded its development. Of course I would. they just seemed to not really push it for some reason. Still it got to a million, which is kinda decent I suppose for a niche fighter. Still I'd have hoped it would have got a few million more.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games

D_Munk

@arabiansanchez I dunno that's really fair. There has been some epic releases on Switch. Doom (2016), Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein Young Blood etc... The Switch can do some amazing visuals, Metroid doesn't really need to go as hard as Doom for instance, its more an exploration/puzzler than a hardcore extreme fps. I think we'll all be gobsmacked when it finally surfaces. We all know it won't be 4k billion poly visual epic, but when it's coded well with decent optimized modelling, the Switch can produce some great stuff. imo.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games

D_Munk

I mean that fact that Metroid Prime 4 is still been mentioned, and the last half the year is empty.... gives me hope, even a bit of butterflies in the stomach, would it? could it?
Please Nintendo, megaton drop that for the end of the year, Sony and MS would just need to pack their bags and hope the year after is a better time for them lol.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe And Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Cross Major Sales Milestones

D_Munk

Mario Kart 8 is such an amazingly playable game. It really is a must have on the system. To say it was a port from a less successful console it really feels like its a Switch only Killer App.
Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey, Paper Mario (yes I liked it, sue me), Pokemon's, Monster Hunter Rise, Bayonetta 3, Super Smash Bros., Astral Chain.... I mean there are more too, the system is just killer, with quality titles, I don't think anyone can reasonably argue that compared to the competition it's crushed them. Deservedly so.
Don't get me wrong Xbox and Playstation have had some incredible games too, but I feel Nintendo have just had more consistently high quality hits. I'm sure I can be proven wrong on that.

Re: Bayonetta 3 Has Sold Over 1 Million Units Since Launch

D_Munk

Good to hear its done well. I must admit though I think Nintendo's marketing around it, was a bit played down. Unlike say something like Metroid Dread which seemed to be everywhere. I can't really remember seeing lots of advertising around B3. May be I just missed it, wrong place, wrong time kinda deal.
I've yet to jump in on Bayonetta 3, still have 1 & 2 to finished.

Re: Nintendo Wins "Switch Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Lawsuit

D_Munk

They offer a free repair. I dunno what people expect. Do they want Nintendo to invest millions in R&D again to re-design the Joycons? and then I suppose get millions of units made and then give them out free to everyone with a faulty unit? Behave will you.
You all act like Nintendo went out of their way to design the Joycons to drift. Seriously, come on. I still have my original Joycon's on my launch Switch and they still work perfectly. No drift. I mean you can argue that it might be user abuse of their Joycons that's caused the problem. Not that I'm saying that, but its such a massive grey area really.
Given the amount of complaints I think its probably a design shortcoming that Nintendo didn't detect when testing, but they stepped up and offered to repair or replace the units, for free. Let's give them some (only some) credit for that.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Killer7

D_Munk

They're all a bit iffy imo. The use of the in-game models to depict the characters is weak and a bit lazy. It was screaming for a kickass Anime style cover art. Pity. Still the NA version is hands down the winner imo. What they were thinking when they created that Japan version I dunno.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Official Poster For The Super Mario Bros. Movie

D_Munk

Loving that poster. Colourful and great focus on the characters and locations.
I probably won't see it at the cinema being a 50+ years old adult. BUT as soon as it hits streaming I'll be all over it, like I was with Detective Pikachu. Nintendo fanboy born and bred so I will see this and play anything Nintendo if I can.

Re: Mini Review: PowerWash Simulator - Scrubs Up Well On Switch

D_Munk

@Deemo37 well, erm..... no I'm not going to spend £20 to discover I was right.... or wrong. There is literally a video in the review showing you the 'game play'. It is simply a fidget spinner of software. A single mechanic. It's at best a £4 piece of software imo. Mind you I note it's also out for the PS5 with all its incredible power, it's utilized for this? I don't know what developers expect to gain from this apart from gullible people parted from their money. At least put some effort into making it a proper game.... it's actually not asking too much for some sort of timed events or target practice mini-games or find secret hidden things hidden under the dirt etc.... None of that is said to exist in this. So I will stand by my impression of the 'game' going by what was in that review.

Re: Japanese Charts: All Switch Models Outsold By PS5, Story Of Seasons Remake Is On Top

D_Munk

Arrr bless well it only took Sony 7 years to actually start selling enough consoles to beat Nintendo, at least until Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases
Nintendo is like pfff whatever we've already done what we needed, we're already gearing up for our next console. Sony have barely sold enough to justify the PS5's R&D lol.
I'm joking of course....... or am I? lol

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Xbox Reportedly Skipping E3 2023

D_Munk

It's a real shame that E3 has pretty much died. It was a real 'event' in the calendar year, with all the big gun's coming in with their big announcements and reveals. Felt really special. Now it's just sporadic announcements or directs or trailers released here and there, just doesn't feel very special now.
All the people moaning about the event seem like souless curmudgeons who hate any special gaming events. Oh well, at least Nintendo have weaned us onto those Directs which at least feel like mini events, unlike the other two big manufacturers, they don't seem to bother at all.
Anyway that's my 2p. RIP E3 I loved you even if no-one else did.

Re: Review: The Excavation Of Hob's Barrow - A Chiller With Echoes Of LucasArts' Point-And-Click Prime

D_Munk

@Pigeon I think generally that indies like pixel art because it's cheaper and quicker to produce. I love pixel art style myself, not so sure about the styling of this game though, but it's not horrible in my opinion.
Producing pre-rendered scene's takes way longer and you might need more artists if you want to complete the game in any kind of short dev cycle. Depends though, if you have a library of assets or just use off the shelf stuff, you might get it done fairly quickly, but it won't feel very original.

Re: Nintendo Will Reportedly "Boost" Switch Production In 2023

D_Munk

This statement to me sounds like they're gonna say something about a new console next year. Boosting consoles for at least another year... yeah they expect a surge with the release of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and rightly so. I think that what some predicted a while back that something like Metroid Prime 4 with be a joint release like Breath of the Wild. The final big release on Switch and also the launch game on Switch 2 or whatever then next console is.
Only my opinion though, none of us truly know do we.

Re: One Of 2022's Best Shmups Blasts Onto Switch Next Month

D_Munk

@Bunkerneath totally agree. A lot of the new Shmups are just bullet hell shooters and that's just not fun for me. Give me R-Type and Gradius V any day.
Having said that this does looks good and the Enemy bullet absorber is a neat mechanic and at least gives you a bit of breather. I'll keep an eye on this one. I might be tempted.
