MH stories, luigi's mansion, SMT5, elden ring DLC. Normally a month like this would concern me, but luckily I already decided to take a three week stay-cation this July. Oh how the stars have aligned.
What a time to be alive and be a games journalist. Any new game announcement guarantees at least two articles: one announcing the game on all platforms but switch, followed by another article regarding a rumor that the game will come to switch 2!
Anyone familiar with Atlus should have seen this coming. Having said that, I will double dip. Despite the performance issues I'll probably get it on switch again despite owning a pretty good PC and PS5 since I don't have a steam deck and I honestly feel like SMT5's gameplay loop was designed with portability in mind. I couldn't see myself playing the entirety of this game sitting in front of a TV/monitor.
Thank you. Too many people are defending the name saying it's just as dumb as octopath. No, it's not. Octopath traveler, while silly, at least has some air of mystery about it to an uninformed consumer... triangle strategy does not.
@JasmineDragon Ar-ki-us. Interestingly, if you go by the Japanese pronunciation it should be pronounced ar-sea-us; in fact I believe that is how it used to be pronounced in the west. Take what I'm about to say with a massive grain of salt, but I've heard they changed it in the west because it sounds like you're saying "arse"
Looking at PC sales all I have to say is, thank God nintendo published and marketed this game rather than square. If this were left in squares hands we would have had another NEO situation.
What a friggin' year. SMTV, dread, wario ware, NMH3, MHR, stories 2, BD2, ghosts and goblins, snap. There were plenty of little surprises too that I absolutely loved and deserve recognition like bowsers fury, famicom detective, miitopia, ace attorney, NEO. This year is currently tied with 2017 and 2019 as my favorite switch year. Get a feeling 2022 will become the new champ though given that release calendar.
@TheRedComet I also prefer movie-like games/cutscenes at 24 or even 30fps. I actually can't stand when I'm playing a 60fps game only for it to go to a cutscene and continue playing at 60. It looks so artificial. This is a case where the tech-heads obsession with numbers gets in the way of artistic flair... at least to me.
Pinsir and mawile definitely need to either get a new evolution or just make their mega forms a normal evolutionary end point. They suck without them and unlike certain pokemon, these two megas, while powerful, are not broken and offer a cool offensive edge to a competitive team.
@sikthvash Bravely Default: the lunchbox, Bravely Default: the flame thrower! (Kids love that one) I'm sure all us fans will have fun with the sequel, Bravely Thirdly 2: the quest for more money.
For anyone defending this game with its 79 metacritic score I would like to remind you of two things that indicate how reliable metacritic is when it comes to game quality...
What's the point of separating dollars earned if the ps5 is sold at a loss? Like, that's weird to point out the ps5 has consistently been the top earner when in reality its an indication of money lost...
@Duffman92 @Zorox88 YES! It honestly bugs me that a lot of 60fps games have the cutscenes running at 60 too. I get it that tech heads will complain about "muh frames!" but it looks awful when you're watching something that is trying to be cinematic and it looks so smooth and artificial. There's a reason the Hobbit caused such a fuss when it released and 48 frames didn't become the new movie standard.
30fps WITH motion blur enabled, please. gameplay is fine at 60 without blur.
Lol, yeah ok. How many atlus surveys have been done with poll results showing people want p5 on switch and yet after five years we still have nothing? This is just audience engagement, no matter how loud we all shout, nothing will come from this.
Online starfox 64. S, S+, double platinum. Oh, speaking of platinum, bayo 3?! Also, 3d kirby, yoko taro game, AC finally getting that update, castlevania and actraiser are back, HWAoC final DLC being story DLC. For me personally it was amazing.
God I don't know if I can take it. If 2022 includes: a True open world pokemon game, mario and rabbids sequel, splatoon 3, triangle strat, botw 2, a new kirby game AND bayo 3... be still my heart.
I love me some kirby. Super relaxing games. I don't mind the more recent games being too easy only because they always have something like a true arena mode to really test your skills. Sit back and relax or pull your hair out, the perfect balance for everyone!
@Merry_Blind Sure, I get that, played all three on PC but I'm not talking about tomb of the giants, I'm saying there are areas that you're supposed to see but can't due to screen brightness in handheld mode.
Don't buy from US amazon. For some reason they are charging $10 above MSRP. You can get it cheaper literally at any other retailer. Heck best buy is selling it for cheaper AND giving away a gift card!
Didn't prevent me from buying the game when I was younger and now it's sort of beloved for its awfulness.
Still, as a creative type I understand his frustration over this. Sometimes other people involved in projects can destroy what you've created and it's even more appalling when it becomes loved ironically. You may be able to laugh yourself to the bank but it always nags at you.
@Giancarlothomaz I think the opposite would be true. The covid pandemic mixed with chip shortages is going to extend the console life of the switch, ps5, and X. All three consoles may linger for eight years before we see a proper replacement.
@Classic603 Octopath was fine and all but it felt like a huge misstep after BD series. Why are the random encounters uncontrollable? Why were there so few jobs and why were the jobs on offer so generic? Why was there no interaction between party members (arguably the best aspect of the BD stories)?
Nintendo's attitude towards fan projects must stem from their legendary lawsuit with universal over donkey Kong. Nintendo won because they were able to prove that universal did a poor job defending their IP. I wonder if nintendo fears this could happen to them, hence their over protective nature.
I was always confused by the people who thought a switch pro revision had the potential to hit upscaled 4k and a guaranteed 60fps. Given the $650 steam deck is also capped at a 720p screen and is targeting 30fps for modern AAA games should give us some indication on where mobile tech is currently.
