Square Enix has announced the shipments and digital sales of Bravely Default II have now surpassed the one million mark. It follows on from an update in August, announcing the Switch version alone had shifted 950,000 copies.
The third main entry in the series first arrived on the Nintendo Switch in February this year and was ported across to Steam (PC) at the beginning of September. It's worth noting this latest sales update is the combined total of both platforms.
To celebrate this special occasion the official Bravely Default Twitter account issued the following commemorative artwork:
At this point, the sales of Bravely Default II are likely to surpass the lifetime sales of the original Nintendo 3DS entry, which sold just over one million units.
The Bravely Default producer has already mentioned how eager he is to continue to the series, and has told fans to look forward to the series' anniversary next year.

Took them a while honestly, and I can see why. The game isn't bad by any means, but it's not the best either. Hopefully Bravely Default III, or Bravely Second II ends up taking what worked with II and improving upon it, removing the unnecessary grind, and giving us a proper story that connects entirely and isn't just barely strung together, Ba'als, and more post-game content to do after you beat the final boss.
Another reminder that I need to play through this game. I adored the first one, and I'm enjoying the second (er, Bravely Second) but for whatever reason this one didn't click. Probably because there was no Ringabel.
The game is quite good. Never played the first. Gave the second a go when it released.(switch version)And the music just hooked me. Along with the addictive battle system. But my God the music
@KingofSalvagers04 Eh, there's just tons of Grinding in Default II, and there's no way to toggle encounters like the past two games, so that's probably why it doesn't click for people as much.

I had trouble getting into it at first, but eventually it grew on me and got to love the characters. Was definitely more challenging than the 3DS titles too. Though in the end after playing so much, grabbing and max levelling all the jobs and characters the final boss keeled over like a bridegroom-to-be on his stag-do with rowdy mates.
The final job’s skill to automatically take out lower combined with bait for chain battles and some levelling up gear saw me level up the final 20+ levels in like an hour tops.

I just finished this game (true ending) last night. Really great game, personally I didn't grind at all (played on hard, but I did do all the sub-quests as I went along). Going to play Bowser's Fury as a palate cleanser, hoping to get some more RPG goodness for Xmas!
I bought all three Bravely Defaults this year - yet to start any of them. Oops. Argos fire-selling physical copies of BD II at half-price within six months was too good to turn down, though. Hope 1m+ sales is enough for Square - I don’t want traditional turn-based RPGs to bleed away into retro and indie gaming.
It's on my wait for sale list. It looks fine but by every indication it's not something I need to play desperately
What I want from Bravely Default III:
It's a solid if unspectacular RPG outing.
I adore this game. The characters appear to be bland at first but if you do all sidequests you are rewarded with some lovely scenes btw them. This was my first entry into the series and was my most played game from this year with 94h according with the latest Nintendo's stats. I have since tried the first one but I found it way too grindy as the jobs leveling up takes ages in comparison. Gave up on it after some 20h or so
Give me a good sale and I'll help them pass the sales of the first!
Congrats! While I didn't enjoy it as much as the first game it was still a very enjoyable, competent, adventure. Also, wow the Steam port sold like crap huh
I quite enjoyed it. Didn't find it required a lot of grinding.
@BlackenedHalo I think the reason why the sidequests end up being boring is the developers don't become immersed in the world unlike with games like Witcher 3, Disco Elysium, Divinity, etc. Sidequests are the main opportunity to really get to know the world the game inhabits.
If they are truly immersed in the world, I imagine they'll have more great sidequest ideas than they could possibly use.
If Nintendo would have discounted the game more often (back in November it was 33% off for 2 weeks), it would have sold more.
@KingofSalvagers04 I too loved the 3ds games, because of the characters and the unique artwork in stunning 3d. The fact that 'grinding' went smooth and none of the dialogue scenes were BORING, helped.
Played the demo of 2, dialogue was boring from the start and even in the demo I already had to grind but because of the limitation on character level there was no reason to push myself beyond that point, so I dropped it, almost beating one tough hidden boss, knowing I COULD do it (I could keep my entire party standing while slowly weakening the boss, for what was already too long to be enjoyable), just not really wanting to :/ and that's not the best motivation to spend full price on a game, which I am very reluctant to do anyway. Default and Second, as well as Octopath, I have in a gorgeously over the top collector's edition, which this one didn't even get, so it felt like a lack of faith in their own product, which as sort of an artist myself, separates the works of art from the products, in my eyes. It seems to lack 'soul'. I finished two wood-burning portraits as gifts in the last week, one of which I'm excited to give, and one of which I'm not convinced by, and would pretend I never made if not for the fact that the one it is for saw it and really wants it. This feels more like a product on demand, aimed at a market, not an overflow of inspiration and love for creation. Sadly, I have kind of the same feeling with their new project, but haven't even tried the demo yet, because they ask TOO MUCH feedback. Swery's ignorance and dedication to his own views in making Deadly Premonition for example is one thing, which I respect, and makes me want to like the games but in the end I don't (as games, most other aspects about it I do). But lack of confidence, what this game feels like, is something that creates a 'politically correct' product, for mass appeal, not a work of art and passion.
I struggle with the length of JRPGs often. Absolutely love Persona and Dragon Quest, but I feel they are too long. BD2 was one of the rare games of the genre that I finished 100%. Loved it. Loved the characters, the setting, the old-school FF-feeling and especially the depth of a good job system. I hope SE views this as a success and continues with BD.
@BlackenedHalo Most developers who could write a single side quest for Witcher 3, try to make it into a whole story, add filler and fetch quests, grinding and skill trees, something online maybe, and sell it as such.
Coming up with an entire world, its history, and putting its future in the hands of gamers while trying to make it feel as if that's actually the case even though every line of every possible outcome has to be written and voiced already, is both technically and artistically an entirely different skill, that requires a LOT that most artists and programmers don't have, from several different resources and skills, to the will to write so much the average player will not even see half of. Once every several years you get works of passion and art (or a remaster of one), mostly you get mass produced products just rolling off of the end of a factory line, straight into a forgetting well (to become a wraith in Witcher 3). The filler of the industry.

@Shambo yeah the factory line ...now Square's pointless Tokyo RPG Factory has appeared in my mind....
I would've likely played this whole series had I not made so much progress back in BD1 only to have my 3DS stolen. I don't tend to replay RPGs over, and I struggle with free time for them as is. Maybe one day I'll seek BD and BS out, but I got too much to play today.
This is on my Christmas list, so it's technically off limits for my wallet until after all family gatherings if it doesn't show. I loved both 3DS entries and am curious about some of the changes (I did play the first demo, enjoyed it but it was understandably rough around the edges). Hoping to give this game a shot before too long.
I bought it at Walmart recently where it was marked down. I think I paid $30. Haven’t played it yet.

Looking at PC sales all I have to say is, thank God nintendo published and marketed this game rather than square. If this were left in squares hands we would have had another NEO situation.
Loved the two for 3DS, couldn't get into this one.
Changes in the battle mechanics and art style are among the reasons. I also feel it is graphically underwhelming for the Switch, still looks like it's a 3DS game.
@VoidofLight the characters and non end game optional bosses drag it down a bit.
Once you get the stuff you nothing to use it on.
And for as long as play as Seth and Gloria you barely get any info about them.

@liljmoore III probably won't be connected, but I could see them doing a Bravely Second: II that expands on Seth at least, given that there's a mention of a boy with black hair who used to be friends with the Night's Nexus, when the Night's Nexus was human. But it's debatable if he's the friend, given his hair is blackish brown.
I just recently got back to this game and I'm having a blast! Glad to see the game is doing well and I'll definitely buy whatever comes next for this series.
