Well well well, Nintendo sure put on quite a show in its September 2021 Nintendo Direct. Whether you liked it or not is the purpose of this poll, but it sure had some notable reveals, updates and big moments.
As you can see in the round up above it was a rather packed show, and one of Nintendo's longer efforts clocking in at 40 minutes. It perhaps speaks to the strength of the line-up that it's hard to pick just a few key moments; there was a lot going on. We had the announcement of a new tier for Nintendo Switch Online, adding Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive / Genesis games and introducing a couple of neat new controllers; pricing for the subscription update is still under wraps. There was the Mario movie cast. Kirby going back into a large 3D world, that looks like an intriguing and impressive spin for the series. Splatoon 3 is looking like more wonderful Splatoon gaming. Brewster.
And the big finale was a game that, frankly, was drawing a bit of concern due to its long absence. Bayonetta 3 was shown, was looking typically bombastic and it's coming next year.
There were lots of other announcements too - the round-up above will remind you! - that included critically acclaimed titles, big time expansions and an 'out now' moment for Castlevania fans to savour. For this writer's money it was a strong offering that had something for pretty much everyone.
The question, though, is did you enjoy the Direct? Vote in the polls below and share your views in the comments!

Solid A grade! 9/10 (One point off for Crisp Rat. Yes, I'm serious.)
A good mix of big news, some updates on games we knew about, some new content for games we already have, teasers of more announcements to come, and two showstopping blockbuster announcements.
This was a direct done right.
Direct was a big “Meh”. I get Nintendo wants to extend the life of already existing titles, but it kind of feels like that is all they are doing. The direct was more a reminder for what is coming than announcing anything new. Like I predicted prior, there just had to be at least one Wii U or 3DS port. Kirby would have been a nice surprise if I hadn’t of seen the sodding article prior (didn’t even click, just saw the headline), same with Bayo 3, and heck, even Castlevania Advance Collection.
NSO still sucks. My subscription has now lapsed, and I don’t think I will bother with renewing. I sure people think it is good value, and on paper; sure. Doesn’t mean I don’t still prefer the days of virtual console (still love my Wii U and 3DS). I have also never liked the idea of paying for something I will never own. Not to mention that the online is no different to either the Wii U online, or the online that was free prior to the introduction of NSO in 2019. Splatoon 3 also loses appeal as a result due to me not wanting to pay for my online anymore. Sure, there is single player, but based on what I have seen so far, I am not convinced it is worth buying based on that alone.
Couple of smaller announcements from Square Enix like the Chocobo racing game and the new card RPG. Neat, but I am indifferent, which is on me, but I have no affinity to either Chocobo, or card-based video games.
Only game which seemed somewhat intriguing to me was Actraiser Renaissance. Never heard of it before despite being on SNES, but I think I will be buying ASAP.
At least I have Metroid Dread to look forward to.
It was a bit on the disappointing side for me. SO many things shown that they've shown before. And so much more shown for 2022 despite them saying they would focus on 2021 games. Bayonetta confirmed and N64 games were the highlights for me. Pretty bad though when 25 year old games are the highlight.
It was really good, but whilst there were a ton of solid announcements and reveals, there were a few set-backs.
The ACNH update comes too late, things like Brewsters should've been launched last year.
The Mario movie casting has been contentious to say the least.
And the reveal of an expansion to Nintendo Switch Online, paying extra to access N64 / Mega Drive games instead of adding value to the base service, was not welcome even if the games themselves are.
Past that, I'm very excited about Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Castlevania Advance Collection, Deltarune, the Mario Golf update, Metroid Dread, the upcoming final Smash fighter reveal, and happy to see we're finally getting Bayonetta 3 news even if that game's not for me.
It was so exciting to see Actraiser get some love finally! One of the best games. Also been waiting so long for the Castlevania GBA collection. Now I just need the SoTN/Rondo/DS collection.
I thought it was probably the worst Direct we've had in a while as it was mostly just all games that we already knew about and I'm not that excited about Bayonetta so that was a bit of a flat way to end for me. Still enjoyed it overall as I always do though and I'm keen for Kirby and Voice of Cards.
I thought it was alright, best part for me was the inclusion of N64 games(plus Banjo) and the Castlevania GBA collection.
I want to know how much more Nintendo Switch Online is going to be, but otherwise, I thought it was good for a September Direct. I loved the extended look at Splatoon 3 (hoping for a spring release for that one, we'll see), and the Chocobo GP game actually looks like it'll be fun for the FF oldtimers like me (plus it'll fill that need for a new Mario Kart for a minute). The cast for the Mario movie is crazy good. Chris Pratt? Jack Black? Seth Rogen? Wow.
It was ok but imo there weren't much brand new announcements, only can think of the Kirby game. Everything else was DLC (Sunbreak), games we already knew about or ports of already existing games
Mediocre in my opinion. (5/10) 😑
Only Chocobo GP, ACNH Direct announcement, Disney Magical World 2 Enchanted, Kirby and the Forgotten Land caught my attention.
Don't care with Zelda, Metroid Dread, NSO, etc.
Kirby alone made it worth it, despite the title getting leaked, it was still a surprise that it was 3D.
But hopefully the Mario Movie has Adam Sandler as Toad.
The only thing I was bummed about was that we didn't see more info on Advance Wars.
Really looking forward to Triangle Strategy, Castlevania Collection, and maybe I will finally play KOTOR!
It was pretty great! Although we got a Bayonetta 3 teaser, my heart broke that there's no actual Astral Chain 2.
Apart from that the games that stood out for me was Kirby, Sunbreak, and Voice of Cards. Not really into the retro stuff as I already own most of those games.
It was alright, the "big" announcements weren't really something I cared for but there was a lot of smaller stuff I liked.
Actraiser was the big one for me, I would never have ever guessed that one would get remade and also gives me hope for some more obscure stuff from old school Squeenix library like Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, 7th Saga or Live-a-Live for example.
Chocobo GP was another really massive surprise that I wouldn't have expected to see, as far as kart racers go I have my doubts it's gonna break any grounds or even be of particularly high quality but the FF themed courses and characters do appeal to me, Steiner from FF9 in particular sold it.
Castlevania GBA collection was sadly leaked so the surprise factor was not really there but it was obviously just a nice thing to get.
Triangle Strategy still looks great and it's nice to have a solid release date, I will almost certainly enjoy it but there are a few things that could easily make it or break it for me and it's really impossible to know about those pre-release.
Nintendo 64 games being locked behind the subsription service like the other classic Nintendo consoles just makes me very sad, I just don't understand why they cannot give you the option to optionally just purchase what you want.
A tad underwhelming but I'm definitely getting the N64 controller.
I loved it back in '96 and I'll love it when it gets its new release.
Now give me Wave Race 64 to play with it !
Was ok. Looking forward to kirby
Overall I was disappointed. I wish Nintendo would stop wasting time on these directs either showing already released trailers for games we already know are coming out, or telling us that info on games will be revealed in a future direct. That’s what press releases are for!
Almost Everything else was for games I don’t have interest in or already know about. Possibly the highlight was the Actraiser remake.
Possibly the most embarrassing thing to admit is that I was excited about was when the final trailer started I thought we were getting some military themed exclusive title; but soon I started to conclude it was likely Bayo 3. Still excited on its release for those who are fans.
All in all, not one of Ninty’s best IMHO.
It was a solid Direct in my opinion, not as good as this year's E3 one but definitely had enough to satiate my Nintendo news appetite for the next few months. Super happy to get a release date (and name!?) for Triangle Strategy, another look at Splatoon 3, KOTOR on Switch, and especially N64 on NSO and (FINALLY!) a 3D Kirby game.
I can’t wait to play the new Kirby with my kids. My 6-year-old daughter especially will love it!
It was ok, ranked it a C. Some good announcements like Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, MH Rise DLC, Banjo, etc. though way too much time was spent on Metroid Dread, the announcement of announcements was odd and the Mario Movie stuff absolutely should not have been in the Direct.
Highlights were Mario Golf update, Age of Calamity DLC and the NSO stuff because they're releasing very soon (or shadow drop in the case of Mario Golf).
The ActRaiser reveal surprised me, though it's available on several consoles and Steam. I dig the N64 controller if it's bluetooth-y and can interact with other devices. Glad to Bayonetta 3 lives. That's it for me, but there seemed to something for everyone in the Direct
it was very good before bayonetta 3. with cereza, it was fantastic
I would say B+ easily, there were lots of curveballs in there. Felt like they were trying to cram so much into 40 minutes. Definitely something for everyone and it didn't waste time either.
It wasn't anything that melted my face, but I could be getting used to these Directs being so full of content by now.
Wow it is one of the better one so far
Bayonetta, castlevania, Chocobo GP, kirby and seeing that banjo and kazooie on the switch is fantastic
I just hope banjo and kazooie stay with nintendo again.
But yeah I think most of the direct was prity solid
There are all way going to be something missing so as a hole I think it deserves 9/10
I applaud the decision that ACNH & Smash are to have their own Direct. The whole cast for the Mario movie reveal just derailed the whole thing though. I couldn't really think of anything else after that.
@BananaMetallurgica It hit fantastic for me once Bayonetta 3 showed up, but I figured there had to be something to show at this point too. Platinum was having too much fun with their mind games on the fans. Haha.
I feel like it would've been better if they cut out some stuff. Like, I love Dying Light 1 and I'm super hyped for 2 but spending an entire minute on them slowed down the pace a lot. And it's not just them either, I feel like this direct could've and should've been 10-15 minutes shorter.
It wasn't all bad though. A 3D Kirby game, the NSO expansion, a new Yoko Taro game, Bayo's fantastic redesign, etc, etc. It had some seriously fantastic announcements. I'd give it a solid 6/10... is what I would say if we didn't get the best trailer I've ever seen for a Nintendo game near the end of it.
Splatoon 3 looks like it's shaping up to be the most abstract game we've gotten from Nintendo in years and I can barely contain my excitement. I must've watched the trailer 100 times by now, it's so good. I'm thoroughly satisfied with this direct. Now they just have to stick the landing on October 5th and 2021 will have been fantastic year for Nintendo and Nintendo fans alike.
MAMA MIA... Bayonetta 3 that's all I can take home.
It was alright. Nothing set my heart on fire, but it mixed a number of big reveals with release dates and interesting news. Probably not altering my purchasing plans over the next few months, but it's nice to know 2022 will be a strong year for the system.
7/10
I didn't watch it but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the news. Kirby looks cool, Castlevania Collection looks kinda cool, Actraiser, though graphically very much not my cup, is a welcome release nonetheless. Cool beans.
It was good but I don't think it was "jump and down" worthy like the E3 2021 presentation was for me. Except from Kirby, which DOES look extremely promising and got me hyped, most of the announcements I either watched with a stone cold face (with a quick glance at my phone to check the time) or simply smiled and went "oh that's cool!".
Mario Party Superstars went from a 'guaranteed day 1 purchase' to a 'I'll pick this up with I'm in a gaming drought and want something amusing to fill in the time purchase' because the trailer makes it seem like the whole game is going to be 5 boards (and not the best ones either, where the hell is Mario's Rainbow Castle & Western Land???) and a minigame mode which is giving me severe Super Mario Party 2.0 vibes (begging to be wrong on that one). Also the only time ever I was praying for the announcer to say "and free content will be added in later months!" because I'm worried this game will meet a similar fate to SPM where it releases clearly unfinished and it's just left to die. Gold mine opportunity to add in extra characters, boards and a plethora of other features, PLEASE dont mess it up Nintendo/Nd Cube.
Splatoon 3 simultaneously excited me and disappointed me. Excited me because the gameplay looks as addiciting as ever so I know it's going to be great on a surface level, but the story mode mostly consisting of that "platforms in the sky" style and not more open areas like the first trailer suggested, plus the enemy faction (as of right now anyway) once again being Octarians is a MASSIVE missed opportunity to break the mold and capitilise on the new setting by introducing a brand new enemy faction. Still excited regardless.
Animal Crossing I really don't care for at this point. The fact that we're getting a direct in October and not just a small 1:30 minute trailer gives me SLIGHT hope that the update is not going to just consist of Brewster (relaxing atmosphere and drinking coffee can only go so far before it's get boring) and be a fairly substantial update (finally version 2.0???) but I'm not holding my breath since the last noteworthy update released back in July 2020.
NSO Expansion Pack I'm mixed on. Really cool to finally get N64 games (plus Sega Mega Drive) on the Switch and online play is really appreciated but the fact they purposely omitted the price tag raises MAJOR red flags for me (extra £5-10 I can handle, £15 you're pushing it, £20+ you can frankly go f*ck yourselfs Nintendo).
Bayo 3 I'm sure is great news for hardcore fans of the series who have been waiting for ages for an update but as someone who's never played Bayo before the announcement personally didn't do anything for me. I'm still really happy for the fans though and the game DOES look really fun so I definitely wouldn't call it a bad annoucnement!
Purposefully looked away during the Metroid Dread part because I really feel like they're entering spoiler overload with this game and I want there to be some room of surprises for the final release but I think that game already looks amazing so I didn't miss much.
Chocobo GP looked really cute! It's obviously not going to be a Mario Kart killer or a MK9 substitute (don't know why some people are implying it will) but I'm still excited to try it out!
Illuminiation Mario starring Chris Pratt.....can't decide if I'm morbidly curious or absolutely horrified by that discovery!
Overall, a pretty good Direct that sadly had the best announcement leaked a head of time and one I think I went in with too many lofty expectations (I was dead set on Xenoblade 3 being present because of the leaks surrounding it). 2022 is definitely shaping up to be a banger of a year though!
Grade: B- (6.5/10)
It was a very good Direct only tainted by that odd and terrible Mario movie casting lol
Hyped for Kirby
As with most directs it was average for me.
I always hope for an immediate release or stealth drop of a game I have been hoping for together with lots of new games.
This one spent a lot of time going over games we already know about although I was happy to see the N64 stuff and the Kirby game.
Voted C. It was ok, but not great. Looking forward to 3d Kirby and n64 on nso.
I wish the Genesis was included with the standard tier and not tied to the "Expansion Pack".
In my opinion, the value of N64 games are not worth the extra cost. Whatever that cost might be.
I am surprised they did not call it the "Expansion Pak". Like the 4 MB extra ram
Still no GBA games. Why does Nintendo want me to pirate stuff?
And I couldn't care any less about Genesis stuff if I tried. All of those games are already available to buy
People moaning, saying it was disappointing, I mean, c’mon, what the hell do you want?! We finally saw Bayonetta 3, the new Kirby game looks amazing, Castlevania collection, N64 Starfox and Sin And Punishment ( amongst others ) plus loads of other stuff.
Best Direct in recent memory, IMO. 3D Kirby has been so long-rumored, it may have well been an urban legend. I can remember articles in old Nintendo Power magazines talking about the next big Kirby game will be a 3D adventure as far back as the Gamecube days. It's been a long time coming. I may be 30 now, but I'm excited for a Kirby game, damn it!
The other star of the show had to be the NSO Expansion Pak. I miss the N64 era so much, and the idea of being able to play Star Fox 64 and others online with the same friends I was playing them with 20 years ago is bonkers. I will say I'm curious about the NSO price hike, but that's on everyone's minds. Hopefully, it's a reasonably priced service and not an excuse to hike up yearly subs to $60.
Last but not least ... Bayonetta 3 exists. It's about time. Her new design is fantastic. Bayonetta, in my view, is Platinum at their very best. Like City Escape in Sonic Adventure 2, the opening level in Bayonetta 2 is so over-the-top and leaves such a strong impression on the player. I can't wait to see what they do for Bayonetta 3.
EDIT: Can't believe I forgot to mention weirder cult classic titles like Chocobo Racing and ActRaiser getting attention. Never did I think we'd see either of those 2 games/series again. That's just ... awesome. I'm going to somehow use this to justify expecting a Xenogears remake somewhere down the line. Also Brave Fencer Musashi and Einhander.
I’ve voted for disappointment, mainly because there was nothing there that interests me that hadn’t been spoiled in the preceding 24 hours.
Yes, I know it’s on me to avoid Nintendo news sites in the lead up to a Direct, but I can’t help it, it’s habitual now.
But also: boo Nintendo for filling the 40 minutes with massive teases for future reveals. MonHun, Smash and ACNH - all could’ve been massive for me, and each one made my heart jump into my mouth, just to drop way back down seconds later when told “we’ll tell you all about it later”.
Similarly, Miyamoto walking on in a Mario t-shirt, just to reveal movie stuff. Pr**k tease.
I literally can't stand Chris Pratt, so that could not have been worse news.
Yeah for me not a great one. Not much that excited me personally.
I thought the Kirby game looked great though - a nice evolution, maybe it does for Kirby what BotW and Odyssey did for Zelda and Mario?
The NSO expansion got me really annoyed. I am in two minds because the existing sub prices are actually very good, but they are just not giving enough value Vs other services. They need to more regularly add games for what we pay now before adding new tiers in my opinion
Honestly would give it a B tier.
Liked the 3d kirby game, I'm not the biggest Kirby fan out there but I appreciate good platformers and i think it looks nice.
It's nice that they're adding N64 and Genesis games to the mix, but i think charging extra for it just doesn't sound right. Given how basic the regular subscription already was, I won't be supporting Nintendo charging more for what should've already been there.
And Bayo 3 saved the whole thing, i was waiting so long for it and it honestly looks awesome, looking forward to it.
Also the Mario movie, yeah it's happening I guess...
Eh, it was okay. A lot of it seemed to just be updates for games already out, and the new stuff wasn't particularly incredible to me. 3D Kirby looks alright, nice to hear Bayo 3 isn't dead, and the N64/Sega stuff on Switch online is pretty good.
Updates to mario golf and monster hunter were alright. Lots of third party things that I don't care much for, Splatoon 3 looks cool but the trailer wasn't much new. And the movie stuff... was weird, for sure.
There just wasn't really anything that jumped out to me, it would have been smash but like I thought they announced a final presentation for it instead, which is cool.
It just wasn't for me, which is fine. I am just waiting for a new Xenoblade more than anything, so I was gonna be sorta underwhelemed regardless of what else was shown. Oh well, maybe next time.
They almost had me until they announced the N64 and Sega games would be locked behind a price increase. Their online strategy is so convoluted and backwards. Wake up Nintendo!
A, for me. Had some awesome announcements and we finally saw Bayonetta 3.
F - no Pikmin 4
Still no love for Wreckfest eh, Nintendo Life?
I would have enjoyed the Mario Movie cast reveal a lot more if either a) they gave just sneak-peak of their voices or (b) gave us a little teaser trailer.
None of the big three new reveals (Kirby, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta) are my personal cup of tea. The silver lining in it, I guess, is that with those IPs out of the way MAYBE Nintendo will finally get to bringing us concrete news on the true heavy hitters like BotW 2, Metroid Prime 4, and Mario Kart 9 in the not-ridiculously-distant future. But by now I've grown accustomed to the games I really want being relegated to some nebulous, far-off release date...if they're ever announced to begin with (and that's not just with Nintendo Directs, but across all industry shows).
The Brewster reveal for ACNH was nice, albeit way too late, and I honestly don't expect Nintendo to do more for the game after that.
What I wouldn't give to have that Shining Force mobile announcement trade places with the Shin Megami Tensei one for the Switch. Sega really has ZERO clue how badly some of their older, truly classic JRPG and SRPG properties are wanted by fans.
Beyond Triangle Strategy the third-party pickings were slim.
Chocobo Racing looked like a PS3 game. Seriously, I made better-looking tracks on ModNation Racers. I honestly can't even remember most of the rest, which should tell you my interest level in any of them.
As I said on another thread, when I first saw Shigeru Miyamoto walk up I was immediately excited by the possibility of a new Mario or Zelda (35th Anniversary?) reveal. But no, he was there to plug a movie. And it's the first time I ever recall wanting him to finish up his spiel and get off the screen.
So we are being asked to pay more to play a trickle of games for two extra systems on Switch Online (a service that Nintendo has supported sporadically and phoned-in at every turn. Remember those fan campaigns to even get BotW and ACNH's saves to be able to be placed on the cloud, which was one of the service's primary selling points to begin with???), one of them already WELL-represented on pretty much every modern platform in existence. And we can buy $50 controllers whose functionality is tied solely to said service, which will no doubt have its plug pulled once Nintendo moves on from the Switch to their next console, realistically 2-4 years away. Hey, those N64 controllers will make superb paperweights.
So yeah, overall I'd have to call the Direct a big swing-and-a-miss, at least for myself personally, I realize there are others who got more things they wanted out of it and are happy, and I don't begrudge them that, but it stinks to watch the show's minutes finish ticking away and realize that, yet again, nothing on my Wish List managed to have its name called.
Exciting stuff all around. ActRaiser was the surprise highlight for me. Mario movie cast is the kind of random I like. Kirby / Fragile Dreams mashup looks awesome. And I was knee deep in Diablo II on the Switch during the Direct so it was gaming goodness the whole time.
Average showing, in my opinion. Not much out of this that I'm looking forward to.
Also would have had N64 games as part of my vote but it requiring a higher subscription tier or whatever totally ruins that. I'm not decided yet whether or not I'll be willing to go for that. They have trouble making the current standard appealing as it is. Everyone just has it because it's cheap, not because of its great value. So the last thing they should do is raise the price to be able to access certain aspects.
I wonder how many people are really going to bother with that...
I liked it. Already have to 2 to look forward too in 2022, Bayonetta 3 and the Kirby game. I appreciate the update for Mario Golf and I hope the upcoming updates for Animal Crossing and MH Rise turn out well. Plus the Castlevania Advance collection.
Not as good as their E3 presentation, but still a good show.
Bayonetta, Kirby, KotoR, Actraiser and Metroid being the highlights for me.
With this, the Smash fighter reveal, Animal Crossing direct and likely more showings at the VGA, it’s enough to satisfy me till next year, which I assume how long the wait will be till the next Nintendo direct.
Oh, the Mario movie voice cast sounds hilariously amazing.
One of the better directs for me. Actraiser and original KOTOR were both nice surprises!
Thought It was very good though there wasn’t that much that appealed to me directly
Good direct for me. I think it is the best one in a long time, not that it was THAT great, but most of the directs of the last couple of years have been quite weak.
Got to give it an A.
Most of it wasn't of interest to me but it was all solid infomation, reveals, and annoucments.
Am loving some of the comments that it was poor but then listening quite a few games from it that they are looking forward to... I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more if a couple of the announcements were not spoiled in advance! I didn't do my usual media embargo before hand. Fool me...
It was very good. The Switch online expansion looks good, though I don't know how many games they'll be able to put on there. My favorite games, from WCW NWO Revenge, Ken Griffey Baseball, and a ton of licensed games will likely never show up. Though i wonder why they don't blank out player names for sports games, and just release them, because back then, the faces definitely didn't match the real person.
Bayonetta looked great. Time for me to boot up the Wii U again.
I know a lot of people were ecstatic after the Direct last night and YouTuber’s are shouting from the rooftops, but I thought it was average at best. Other than Metroid Dread that I was already hyped for, the only thing that caught my attention was Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which looked kinda cool. Even Bayonetta 3 looked distinctly drab to me. I know I’m probably in the minority though, and I’m happy for those who enjoyed it. My score? 5/10.
@Tarolusa I haven't watched any metroid dread content since e3! I'm glad someone else out there is holding out!
Thought it was ok, but they said there was a focus on Winter titles and nearly everything was just a generic 2022. Didn't seem like anything was actually winter
I agree, there was something for almost everyone. The best things for me were Metroid Dread (Still a Day 1!), Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Disco Elysium's release date (waiting on physical release though), Deltarune Chapter 2, and the intriguing Voice of Cards.
I'm not into Splatoon or Bayonetta, but I'm very happy for fans of those series.
Overall, the Direct was decent.
Very good direct! Great reveals, especially some that I don't think anyone ever would think would happen (Actraiser remake lol), nice teases, and some genuinely great footage of a lot of games I'm looking forward to. Kirby and Splatoon got me especially excited!
@mudmask Ha! Same here! I even walked away from the computer (with sound off) when the Dread part came on.
Was ok, looking forward to Kirby.
But having to pay even more for the N64 games, when the NSO is still dire, is irksome.
Bayonetta 3 was nice.
Otherwise, yeah, average
A bunch of dlc, announcements of announcements, a few decades old roms locked behind a sub but now you pay more, time wasted on a movie instead of a game, and a Bayonetta that doesn't seem to lose her clothes when using wicked weaves. It was pretty boring
Kirby was the main thing for me. A 3D Kirby always seemed like a great idea, and I'd spend so much time running around the city in Air Ride thinking how fun a game like that would be. Hoping it turns out great, and that bayo looking like her kid self explains the funny makeup and costume as well as her wicked weaves
Good not "very" good Direct. Satisfied on a personal level. Fair number of equally significant highlights. Choosing three it's 3D Kirby Forgotten Land, Bayo 3 & Star Wars The Old Republic/Triangle Strategy
Surprised to see so many bad comments, makes me wonder what it would take to make you all happy? New Mario, New Zelda, New F-Zero, all free and all released after the Direct? 🤷 We just had a Direct at E3, after waiting 2 years. Sure the movie slowed things up a bit but Nintendo wants to pretend it's their first foray into movies and the 1st Mario movie never happened - like the CDi Zelda games - so gotta play it up.
Worst part for me personally was Metroid, went on way too long, messed up the pace long before getting to the movie, but I assumed most of you were ok w/ that b/c 2D METROID!!!.
Durect was full, fast paced, demos, dates, downloads, dlc, a new 3D Kirby game (leaks don't count) and the reemergence of Bayonetta. I don't care about 80% of it but it was there, it was good, and we'll presented. Just 3 months after the last one.
So I ask you, would you rather have 1 great Direct every 2 years, or a good Direct every 3 months? I'll take more of these on a consistent basis even if only 20% appeals to me personally.
@Hikingguy I think they kind of did call it that, you're talking about a difference of 1 letter, which they needed for the Genesis games, b/c it isn't all N64 games. 😉
But what they really should have called it is NSO+ b/c that's what it is, it's NSO plus extra money for extra games, as I don't think you'll be able to sign up for 1 or the other. I guess "Expansion Pack" kind of covers that as well, but I'm like 99% certain no one is asking their friends if they've signed up for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. NSO Pack maybe. Pack, plus same thing. I'm only ever typing NSO+. 😁
Overall I was liking the direct and thought it was decent for the most part until they announced NSO Expansion.
The sheer audacity to demand more money for an already substandard service blew my mind.
Online starfox 64. S, S+, double platinum. Oh, speaking of platinum, bayo 3?! Also, 3d kirby, yoko taro game, AC finally getting that update, castlevania and actraiser are back, HWAoC final DLC being story DLC. For me personally it was amazing.
Honestly I'm just glad deltarune chapter 2 came out pretty close to the pc release
@TurtleTurtle Splatoon keeps steering into what it does best. It’s really been — pardon the pun - the freshest style out of House of N since WarioWare/Rhythm Tengoku and I love how they’re getting stranger, weirder, and more abstract. Even with it’s relatively fast pace for sequels, it’s own style is evolving closer to fashion than slower IP-driven medium like games, comics, and movies. Really excited for 3!
Kirby is very exciting. Splatoon 3 looks great! Bayonetta 3 also looks great. I'm excited to find out the final Smash character soon and more about the Animal Crossing update. On all those levels it was fantastic for me.
The card game looked pretty but not for me. There was a lot of remakes/remasters/collections, which is nice to see but again not for me. They do feel like padding after a while but I know for many they're super exciting so each to their own. Monster Hunter seems to be a given for any Nintendo direct now, it's not for me though.
NSO I was disappointed by the lack of Gameboy games announced and that N64 and Megadrive ones are behind an increased subscription. Having online for them is a nice touch though.
Personally, I thought this was a strong direct. Nintendo Directs are almost always 2 big announcements then updates on existing stuff. The updates on Bayonetta 3 and Splatoon 3 are making me more excited and actively thinking about those games, where I wasn't so much before. Splatoon 2 was bleh for me, and 3 seems to fix my issues with it. Banjo on Switch was also really unexpected after they didn't do it on previous VCs. Some good shadowdrops with Deltarune and Castlevania Advance Collection. They gave us a good number of things to look forward in the near future with Smash and AC Directs, and the distant future with Kirby 3D and the other 2022 titles not shown here. They also had the funniest gaming-related announcement since Final Fantasy Origins: Stranger's Paradise with the Mario movie cast reveal.
I guess I'm lucky in the sense that my tastes are pretty diverse, so this Direct did a lot for me. I found the February direct meh and the E3 one to be pretty good, though the back half of it was weak. This Direct was the best one since February 2019.
Somehow, it was similar to the Playstation showcase, weak start but it got better halfway through. Honestly, not too many games got me excited here but the confirmation of N64 plus Sega Genesis was great, I hope we get Pokémon Stadium added soon. The supposed Castlevania collection were finally revealed and even better, it launched sooner. Looking forward to that new Kirby game as well. Wasn't really into Bayonetta 3 since the first two games never really interested me but I'm happy for those who have been waiting since 2017.
@rjejr Metroid Dread got the biggest reaction I've seen from a Nintendo-related thing since Metroid Prime 4. Metroid is bigger amongst people who've been playing Nintendo before the Wii era, and I think there's a large sect of the Nintendo community with a bias towards IPs that were prevalent in that time. Hence, newer stuff like Bayo and Splatoon isn't as big of a deal to this group.
I'm hyped for Metroid more for the fact that it's a AAA Metroidvania, than its importance to the series it's attached to. I was big into the Wii U in my teenage years and grew up being excited by the likes of Splatoon and Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U.
Thought it was really solid. Had something for everyone.
My favorite reveals were:
More Splatoon 3 info
The Animal Crossing update (Let's hope this quells the mob until the next thing comes along to complain about)
The Mario movie cast reveal was my favorite. It was just so unexpected, wacky and so Nintendo in spirit.
I'm really happy with the Direct!
I don't know, maybe I'm easy to please! I love what's coming down the pipeline, and that's not including Advance Wars, all the Pokemon's, BOTW2, Xenoblade and Monolithsoft's new IP! Very excited for the Switch lineup.
You all let me down by not voting for Actraiser
@KimBread haha I covered my ears and had my wife tell me when it was over!
I went with pretty low expectations considering we already knew basically the entire fall lineup and a decent amount of games for next year beforehand. Nintendo greatly exceeded my expectations, thankfully! I was glad to get the remaining boards unveiled for Mario Party Superstars, the 3D Kirby game looked great and it’s the first game in the series I’m excited for in a long time, N64 games on NSO are a huge deal for me as that’s the first home console I had growing up, the announcement of an Animal Crossing direct has me excited to get back into playing the game again, Splatoon 3 looked pretty cool even if I wish we got more information, and Bayonetta 3 looked great. Oh, and the Monster Hunter expansion looks really cool.
It wasn’t the most earth-shattering Direct, but it was very solid.
@blockfight They didn’t say 2021, they said winter. Winter is December, January and February, so 2/3 of it is in 2022.
It was another solid Direct from Nintendo, as the rest of the Nintendo Directs this year have been.
I'm not happy with the new tier NSO, but I am really excited for the 3D Kirby. Early next year is going to be amazing with it and Pokemon Legends Arceus.
Some surprises, some disappointments, some apathy. It all balances out to be underwhelming but satisfactory
@blockfight they said they would mainly focus on upcoming winter.
Winter runs up to the 3d week of march.
And the word mainly is also very important.
I’m excited for the Mario movie, ACNH direct, Rune Factory 5, Mario Party Superstars, Shin Megami Tensei V, Disney Magical World 2, Splatoon 3 and the Kirby game.
@MrMetroid the price compared to the competitors is also substandard though.
I would never think Nintendo would add N64 for a subscription fee of only 20 euros a year. It’s just devaluing the Nintendo franchises.
Seemed rush IMHO
I thought this was a pretty good direct. I'm not sure I'm feeling the emphasis on this mario movie tho tbh. it's cool and all that miyamoto is so involved, but at the end of the day i just don't know how interested i am.
@Expa0 I totally agree, I don’t like these games locked behind a subscription, I wanna buy N64 games!
@rjejr Yeah, but it is Nintendo and they are using the term "Expansion Pack" in association with a product they are selling with the N64, they might as well keep with their historical naming tradition.
My whole train of thought was the Genesis' history is more tied with the NES/SNES era and should be tied with the current tier. As much as I would like to have access to the Genesis library, at the moment, I already have access to most of the games on the Switch. I might be wrong, but Ecco and MUSHA are the only 2 games not currently playable on the Switch. Although Ecco is on Steam for a minimal cost. So that leaves MUSHA and I cannot justify paying extra for access to that one game. The value is just not there. In my personal opinion.
On a side note, having lived the 32/64 bit era of gaming, I have very little interest. That era was the reason I took a long hiatus from gaming. I always wished they would have done one more generation of the 2D/2.5D. 3D was just not quite ready with the 32/64 bit era hardware. The Dreamcast was fun and capable of good 3D, but the short life span curbed my enthusiasm to return to gaming. It was not until the Wii that I found it fun again. And it is starting to wain again. Things have gotten stale. Way too much of the same.
It was an enjoyable show throughout.
@Bunkerneath yeah the NSO is not an interesting service, and we want to buy N64 games- Nintendo would make far more money if they sold the games and didn’t lock them behind a subscription. This way I am not interested in extending NSO-so no money for Nintendo, compared to if we could buy multiple games for 15-20bucks. I would definitely spend more for buying a lot of these classics but not spend anything for a lame online service.
A, it was fantastic!
I've been considering getting a xbox solely for Banjo Kazooie, I'm happy I dont need to anymore!
My top 3 announcement,
1. N64 online, specifically Banjo Kazooie
2. Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, it looks amazing and I'm happy my favourite switch game gets more content.
3. Castlevania GBA collection, it was leaked beforehand but I'm still so happy we're getting it, now we just need SotN and the DS games.
Also, this direct made my step over the fence and order a NS OLED, I've had my switch since launch so this will be a welcoming upgrade.
Not much shown for 2021 but 2022 looks exciting. Glad more people can enjoy N64 and Genesis games. I have a hacked Switch running Retroarch so I've enjoyed it for some time. I have the Retrobit 6 button Genesis controller, I highly recommend that model!
I have to admit, for all of the “outrage” in the comments for the main article on it, I wasn’t expecting the NSO expansion to come second in the poll. Personally, I’m neutral but leaning towards positive. It depends on the upgrade price.
8.5/10 Direct for me (11/10 with the meme-worthy Mario movie cast announcement lol). Probably the 2nd best September/Fall Direct Nintendo has ever done, behind the 2018 September Direct when Luigi's Mansion 3, Animal Crossing, and all the old Final Fantasy games were announced for Switch.
Kirby and the Forgotten Lands, Bayonetta 3, and Splatoon 3 were the big highlights. The only thing missing that I really thought would be present is a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 reveal.
It's a shame that Kirby, Bayo 3 in 2022, and N64 on NSO were leaked ahead of time as that stifled the surprise factor from the official reveals.
I enjoyed it, no expectations and the Bayonetta 3 reveal along with Actraiser was the icing on the cake. I’m going to sit back and chill now with my bingo card because this was the thread I was waiting for. Let the Spanish soap opera commence.
I just wanted to apologize for my comment on another thread last night, about this Nintendo Direct. My anger was lukewarm and misdirected. It should actually be ablaze, and focused on the true injustice we all turned a blind eye to. Virtual Boy and Sega 32X titles were omitted. If I am to pay extra for NSO, I want Virtual Boy Wario Land, and Knuckles Chaotix. We deserve a Virtual Boy controller. We have been spoiled with twin stick gaming for years now. But nobody understands twin d-pads. The wild and crazy things I would do with an extra d-pad. Please understand.
Loved it. N64 games, an ambitious Kirby, Bayo 3's existence confirmed, Splatoon with an interesting-looking story mode, more Castlevania, etc. I'm in.
A-. Loved the Kirby 3-D announcement, Bayonetta 3, the Actraiser surprise. KOTOR, Disco Elysium, Switch Online. All great stuff. Only wish that the GTA trilogy would have been confirmed.
I give this direct a "D", but it was more "okay" than "disappointing" to me.
The N64 NSO part was nice to see, Bayonetta 3 looks sick-er than ever, and New Horizons' small showing of the Roost was cool.
The lack of Game Boy NSO and Smash Ultimate fighter reveal let me down, and (as a huge Kirby fan myself) the upcoming Forgotten Land looks enticing to see for being the first 3D mainline game, but so far it's not making me jump for joy.
Meh was nothing that excited me was hoping for mario kart but knew it wasn't going to happen much preferred PlayStation's showcase a few weeks ago
@Zyph im pretty sure astral chain 2 will happen sooner or later
direct was awesome i give it a solid 9 but seeing some negative comments about it i would say you cant please everyone these days.
Not a hack-and-slash guy but I am happy Bayonetta fans finally got the reveal they are waiting for. All directs this year have been good including this. I still have a lot of games to play/buy but now I will be adding Disco Elysium, Dying Light at Kirby 3D to that. I wish the time slot for Splatoon was shown more in actual 3PP gameplay but nothing to complain about. Oh and KOTR was also a welcome surprise. Gonna get to play it finally as I've been hesitant to get it on mobile hoping it will come to the Switch eventually.
@Friendly @SirKif Ya, good point. I guess in my head I just associated it with up until the end of December. My bad. Still doesn't change my opinion that it was fairly mediocre in terms of news though.
I don’t know who puts these directs together but they can’t pace them for toffee.
@blockfight that might be indeed. A lot of dlc was shown / announced. Nog very big new surprises.
I liked it though. I didn’t really ‘need’ a new direct, but I have received the updates on games that needed it for me
The comments about how it was only things we knew about are capping. Do you count stuff that was "rumoured", more like "educated guessed", in that? Because if you do, no Direct will be satisfying, since we can assume games like Mario will be shown in some Direct. September Directs also usually serve as a means to add information on games announced prior, especially those announced at E3. I hope people weren't whining for Bayo3 to be shown to then say "We knew about it", because that seems kind of hypocritical to me.
I liked the Direct. It actually had way too many things I'd be interested in. lol
Where is Zelda Anniversary Collection?!!!! Mario got Superstar bundle and Zelda Nothing????? BOTW made the series more deserving of a collection than Odyssey. So crazy Mario got 3 games bundled together and Zelda NOTHING?
@CharlieGirl IMO it was terrible. 0 exciting anouncments. most of the time was wasted on games they already presented bahh
I was so hoping when Miyamoto came out the a Pikmin would pop out of his pocket. ☹
A fantastic Direct for 2022, a below average one for 21.
Sony’s last event was guilty of the same crime, so I have to be fair.
Direct one thing what I want to know is how many will be Physical/Digital options not just Digital. And NO cloud that is just piss on Switch gamers pure and simple. You need to have ISP plus NIN account NOS to use and that is pure BS. People forget Cloud isn't free you first get a ISP and pay for that before you get NOS assuming it's even affordable at their rate.
@RiasGremory Oh I have no doubt in my mind. Especially them going to the trouble of doing a Lappy cameo for the teaser.
Was average i thought, not in a bad way but was a decent average direct with about as much content as you might expect.
i don't get how a ***** remake of actraiser get 3%... as much as triangle strategy
Yay for the new Kirby and for Charlie Day as Luigi. Happy about Banjo.
Big no on Chris Pratt as Mario. I’d also have preferred GB games to Genesis.
Somewhere between very good and average (good, in other words). Happy about the NSO expansion and the N64/SMD controllers, and Kirby was a pleasant surprise. But too many «here's something you must know - we'll tell you more at this date».
I'd prefer it if Nintendo just gave us shorter Nintendo Direct's more often.
First time I've wanted to select more than 3 answers
@Meteoroid
I kind of agree. I feel like the Direct could be: Ocarina of Time remade from the ground-up for the Switch Pro Deluxe that you'll get for free just for watching this Direct; and Mario Odyssey 2 shadow-dropped this afternoon by Charles Martinet himself showing up at your door. And people would still be like: Meh, where's Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and new DLC levels for Pokemon Snap!?
@rjejr The Direct specifically said that you can continue to use and subscribe to the basic subscription. That’s why it’s an expansion pack and not a forced price increase.
Pretty good overall.
Kirby looks really good, so does Bayonetta 3. N64 on NSO very welcome and I’ll get one of them Controllers. New content for Mario Golf is a plus. There’s a lot coming out over the next year or so.
@Hikingguy I feel like I own all of the worthwhile Sega games on PS2 or PS3 discs somewhere that I bought on clearance at Target for like $4.98 each. N64 games don't appeal to me that much, and I think I own, again somewhere, the ones I want to play.
I have a similar video game playing history. I owned Pong, then an Atari 7800, possibly an Atari before that. Spent a lot of my HS & college years in the 80's in video arcades, Phoenix, Gyrus, Space Invaders etc. Then I went to grad school and didn't own a TV for awhile and I don't think there was an arcade nearby. Left school and got a PS1 in 1998 for Parasite Eve, then FF7, then all non-Xboxen home consoles since except PS5 b/c stock issues. Not a handheld gamer. And I really don't have any nostalgia for old games pre PS2 gen. Not much into side-scrollers, I like the more open stuff. Klonoa was a nice mid-point. Which means I really should like N64, but I don't. 🤷♂️
As for this service, I am really curious how they price it. Family is a good deal but it's yearly only, not monthly. Will they add $1 per month or more like $5 per month? Will they add other stuff like deeper sales discounts? Could be other stuff as well, NSO members got a free rug for ACNH. 😂 I almost certainly won't get it regardless, but I am really curious about the pricing. It's Nintendo, it could be anything. Probably not cheap though. 😉
It sucks I had to eat up 2 votes between controllers AND N64/Genesis.
Otherwise I would’ve chosen KOTOR, N64/Genesis, Castlevania Advance Collextion.
Nintendo won me over once again yesterday: I bought Castlevania Advance Collection, renewed my NSO sub (for the first time ever), and bought an expensive physical copy of Metal Gear Solid for gameboy color to play on the proper hardware.
I’m stoked!
@Jprhino84 Yeah, it's not a "forced price increase", but I don't think you can just sign up to play N64 and Genesis games w/o signing up for NSO. So for people who only want these games, but not online play, they will have to pay for both NSO and these games. So they will have to pay for both, they can't just pay for N64 & Genesis games. Which is what I meant.
Take PS+ and PS Now as examples. Even though they sometimes have the same games, they are 2 separate things. PS+ for online, PS Now for games. I don't think Nintendo is offering that option. Which is why I think they should call it, and I will be calling it, NSO and NSO+.
Sorry for any confusion with my original post. 😁
Wreckfest isn’t on the list
Can’t wait, reminds me of my days playing destruction derby on PC!
Mind you, I rewatched the clip and it looks like DD did on our Pentium 75…
Very good direct for me. Some new surprises and release date windows, demos and deeper looks at upcoming games. I’m happy. Not to mention the game schedule has been packed for most of the year. As I look at my BF cart that already has 25 games in it...all of which will be out by BF and only 3 of them aren't switch games....yeah I'm really happy actually.
conflicted.. missing the forest for the tree and vice versa is a real existential crisis for my considerations. like i'm likely picking up a bunch of these new titles, but forreal, my ikaruga chops haven't gotten any better since taking that mission on a decade ago..
Very good, I'd give a B+. Kirby and Bayonetta gameplay reveals were awesome. Getting N64 games is nice too. This month has already been good with the likes of WarioWare, Crusin, NNK2 etc and the onslaught of games on Switch will continue for the rest of the year and next year.
Super amped for Triangle Strategy. Playing through Octopath right now, and having an absolute blast. My finger is ready to hit “pre-order” once those physicals go live!
I'm gonna be so broke by 11/11...and need some serious vacation time.
Metroid Dread 10/8 (finally)
Tetris Effect 10/8. (Hope the music holds up)
Switch Oled 10/8 (HAHA Like I'll find one)
Disco Elysium 10/12 (been dying to play)
Dying Light Platinum 10/19 (cool fave)
Mario Party Superstars (the good ones) 10/29
WWZ 11/2 (best modern L4D without monetization)
KotoR 11/11 (omg why is it 15.6gigs?)
That should tide me over a few months till Triangle Strategy comes out.
Very average in my opinion. The two best reveals, Kirby and Bayonetta, had their inclusion in the stream spoiled beforehand so were expected. Nothing else really that major in terms of surprises, aside from the N64/Mega Drive games but that came with a tinge of disappointment that we'll have to pay a bit more for it. Had hoped at least we'd get a little more Zelda or the title reveal, or something about Metroid Prime 4 or Trilogy.
8/10. Kirby, Splatoon and Bayo were all great announcements. Wish I could have gotten more new stuff, Dread and SMTV is basically carrying Switch in 2021 for me.
I'd say I was pleased, but not ecstatic. There was lots of delayed gratification going on this time - tune in later for ACNH update, the final Smash reveal, and surprise releases of games I want like Castlevania and Actraiser, BUT maybe not if they are digital-only.
I cringed at all the celebrity casting for the SMB movie, but that's Hollywood for you...
Also averted my eyes for the entire Metroid Dread segment, as I'm trying to preserve some surprises for when I play next month.
After viewing, I think my takeaways were I'm convinced to buy a Mario Party game for the first time, to try with the kiddos. I'll be returning to Splatoon, probably investing in NSO+, importing Megaton Musashi, and watching to see more of Kirby, Voice of Cards, and KOTOR.
Having Bandai join Hamster's Arcade Archives is also way welcome news! Let's keep expanding that series Hamster!!
SMT5, KOTOR and Voice of Cards was it more me, everything else I didn't care care for.
@rjejr PS+ also includes games though. And it’s been known to increase its price without offering anything extra. It’ll also only let you play those games that you collect over time by staying subscribed. You can’t just take the games and forego the online capabilities.
In fairness to the expansion pack, online multiplayer is actually implemented into a fair few of the N64 games as a perk. So you really couldn’t have one without the other.
Incidentally, it turns out you do need PS+ if you want to play PS Now’s PS4 games online. It’s a little convoluted, apparently.
Apologies if I came across as terse. I’m trying to be clear and not needlessly wordy but that can often come across as rude or angry.
There was some meat on the bone. Kirby and Triangle Strategy sound really cool. I like updates to golf, AC….
Metroid Dread, Project Triangle & Bayonetta 3 .. where amazing.
It's a shame only japan gets the 6 button mega drive control pads.
@Jprhino84 Hey don't worry about it. It's the internet, we're all Bruce Banner here. 😂
Bayonetta and Kirby kept it from being a complete failure in my eyes. But Bayonetta alone made it a passable direct. Kirby didnt really have much an effect on my opinion even though Im a big Kirby fan. I'll need to see more to be totally sure on how I feel about that game.
If this Direct scored a "F" to you, then Nintendo probably isn't for you anymore lol.
Every new-ish announcement I theoretically cared about had a sting in the tail.
We're finally expanding the NSO offerings! ...for an increased premium price. Also, we're padding the numbers to justify the price by including SEGA games that can already easily be purchased separately. Also, the release schedule for most of the included games is going to be drip-fed in unspecified intervals. Please be excited.
Some classic Zelda titles are finally coming to Switch, and even Banjo Kazooie! ...you can't buy these in a collection or anything, though, only rent them. Also, no time specified for when they'll be available for renting.
We have Smash news! ...Later
We have ACNL news! ...Later
It felt as good as an E3 Direct. So much good stuff to look forward to. And TBH I have been wanting to play WINBACK lately so I am to the moon. Now just get me TETRISPHERE.
I'm Giving it a B, it was a pretty good direct. could have shown more on Advance Wars. the new game announcements were good, N64 coming to Nintendo Switch Online prove me wrong, super excited to try online with those games. i was really happy on more about Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Brewster, hopefully this Direct that they're showing next month, will get me back into New Horzions soon. can't wait to see who the final challenger is for Smash Bros Ultimate.
I was disappointed, but there were a couple little things for me. Seems like the story of the last 2 years, other than when Metroid was announced. People always say this fall is really stacked, but other than Dread there are a few games coming I might pick up on sale. No day one stuff.
This direct was more quality than quantity, but only in the exclusive games frontier.
The rest? I can't believe I just realized how lacklustre or niche the multi-platform games here were. I still enjoyed it as I was personally expecting more first-party announcements. But the lack of bigger partner support shows how harder it is for Switch to get better third-party support these days, right now it can only get either games that can run on it or miracles (where was World War Z?) I also wish Metal Gear Solid V and the Arkham Trilogy could come to Switch at least.
Nintendo needs a hardware bump, but let's not hurry it.
Anyway, time to reflect on the best announcements, the exclusives
B, a lot of great moments my favorites were the Bayonetta 3 gameplay reveal, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and a new 3D Kirby game that I didn't know I wanted.
I guess I’ll give it a C. The Castlevania advance collection is a must own. Actraiser is on my wish list and will get. Bayenetta 3 was ok. The new online system is so garbage but I won’t even get into that. I guess I was crushed to find out that there was no Xenoblade. I was hyped for that. So my hypeness for Xenoblade gave me a bit of a let down.
I think Nintendo is asleep at the wheel. The vast majority of “new” games we get are remakes or ports. And skipping over the GameBoy, GameCube, and GameBoy Advance games on virtual console in favor of these old Sega Genesis games we already have is a huge slap in the face. Insulting. And very disappointing.
@sinetic someone sounds butthurt.
Adding additional costs for NSO is absurd, and really poor form from Nintendo. I'd pay for a gamepass style service from Nintendo but it needs to have the scope gamepass has!
I'm a huge Nintendo fan but this isn't ok. I 100% won't buy it without wrestling or GoldenEye, and license agreements will prevent either of those been available.
When the most exciting announcement is 25 year old games you can't even own, that ain't good. I give it a very borderline C-
@rjejr On second thought, if the price is very reasonable, the 2 player online games for the Genesis are really good. Contra, Gunstar, Golden Axe, SoR2. For multi-player games, this beats what is on the SNES already. (in my opinion of course)
@SwitchForce how is it a "piss on Switch players"? It's giving them an option to play a game they otherwise wouldn't have got to play at all. If you don't like it that's fine but I'm sure there are plenty that do like it as an option.
Also if you're going to make the argument that you need to pay ISP for Internet for this to work, why not say you have to pay for electricity for the console to work? And I have to buy food to have the energy to play it. Are all these gaming costs too?
After the Direct, I wanted to give Nintendo a big hug.
Again, Directs are news, ads just in a condensed format. You won't get new announcement after new announcement in a normal Direct. The closest to being full of new announcements are usually E3 Directs. But I can imagine some people looking at "leaks" and complaining that "There was nothing new" or "We knew about that".
@Hikingguy This all feels very Nintendo deja vu going back a decade now.
Things are rumoured
Nintendo is quiet
Things are loudly rumoured
Nintendo denies it
Until they announce it days/weeks/months later
People are ecstatic for the rumors to be true
People realize Nintendo told us really nothing b/c no details
People wring their hands in angst
Nintendo finally gives us details
People either thank the heavens or wallow in despair
I can't think of a good example at the moment, it's early and I'm pre-caffeinated, but I'm sure this is the 3rd or 4th time. Oh, how amiibo worked in Smash may be one. Or amiibo in general really.
@rjejr After the "Third pillar" (Wii DS GBA), I learned that Nintendo will say or deny just about anything, despite the truth being obvious.
Reggie said some of the craziest things over the years. I remember thinking does he really think we will believe this? Obviously it was some boardroom meeting where they thought "if we just say this enough the masses will believe us".
Then days or weeks later, the obvious came out. SMH
I think the Nintend Life feed needs a no spoiler option, hiding leaks and rumours. It took away a lot of potential excitement, just seeing Dying Light Platinum, and a new Kirby game, being mentioned even. I get it, you need clicks... But I want to be surprised by Nintendo Directs, not have 3 out of ten potentially exciting possible announcements confirmed and people complaining about how 'meh' it was and how disappointed they are that their favourite rumours weren't confirmed.
I loved the recent Nintendo Direct personally. Looking forward to the following games/DLC...
2021:
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Wave 2 DLC - October 29
2022:
Project Triangle Strategy - March 04
Rune Factory 5 - March 22
TBA 2022:
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Spring 2022
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC - Summer 2022
Bayonetta 3
Chocobo GP
I am a Korean Nintendo Switch gamer.
Nintendo Direct was the best game show of the year in 2021.
Like 'SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY', 'Kirby and the Forgotten Land' will be developed as a new Mario 3D open world action game, as well as the Monster Hunter Rise expansion pack, PC Steam version, and Jin Goddess Reincarnation 5. The best gaming news of 2021 has been revealed at Nintendo Direct.
I agree with Alex and Jon, a 5 or at a push a 6. For me a 5.
There was no wow factor that would push the score up. I'd like to play some of the N64 games again but they need a fresh coat of paint.
Maybe the highlight is a new Kirby early next year, but let's hope it's the full game and some content is not held back as dlc.
My highlight is Triangle Strategy. 🙃
I was disapointed, I'm interested in the N64 app, but I don't like subscriptions, so I'm a bit worried about the price. The n64 controller is really expensive. I expected "free" Gameboy games though so even there it's a deception.
I don't care at all about Kirby and Bayonetta; the artstyle is as awful as ever, the gameplay showed looked terrible too.
