It seems highly unlikely at this point. Come March of next year the switch will be five years old. If I were to guess the switch will be replaced with a new system in 2024. Do we really expect them to release a console refresh with less than two years on the clock? Didn't the ps4 pro launch 2016, only three years into the ps4 life cycle? That gave the pro a repectable four years on the market.
Nope, don't believe a switch pro is in the cards at this point.
People magically expect miyamoto to sneak into their homes at night and suddenly make a four year old handheld have better performance? There are 80+million switch owners out there, so not even a mid gen upgrade would truly fix the performance issues we have with the switch.
I feel it's unfair of the public to expect flawless 60fps just because the ps5 and series x have emerged. Even the ps4 pro, a system that came out less than a year before the switch and was a dedicated home console had plenty of games with frame rate issues. Monster hunter world on a ps4 pro had worse frame drops than anything I've seen in Rise. The switch is a product of its time and it's a handheld to boot. Either get used to performance issues or move along. This ain't getting resolved until 2024 at the earliest. In the meantime, appreciate the games that are optimized and run well and just accept that not every dev team is going to get the time or resources needed to make a smooth running game.
I'm waiting for the inevitable article about nintendo stock dropping due to this announcement not meeting expectations.
I'm then waiting for it to drop again when it launches because investors thought it would sell more in its first month than the OG model... only to then be informed it had the best first month sales of any console refresh in Nintendo history. Investors and fans alike are a joke, holding rumors as gospel and then punishing these companies for not delivering exactly what the rumor-mill promised.
As the article states, the new 7" screen may not align with the viewing lens. I'm guessing they will release a small patch because why wouldn't nintendo patch in a QoL update to an old game that didn't set the world on fire?
@JaxonH Good point. I have no idea what this print is about then.
Going back to dragons dogma, I have no clue why any publisher doesn't print on at least 16gb cards. Publishers claim it's a price thing, and yet as I stated dragons dogma was $30. In fact, there have been a few $30 games on 16gb cards like the Darksiders games from THQ. So what's going on? How cheap are these people?... actually, I already know the answer to that question.
I'm thinking this has to do with the road map dlc. As others have pointed out, the digital listing is 13.5gb. While Capcom has been cheap here and there I doubt they're shoving the game on a 1gb card and forcing a download for the rest. Heck, they put a niche game like dragons dogma onto a 16gb card and sold it for $30, if they can afford that they better not cheap out now.
The decision to make samus a women, like many decisions in Metroid, came from the movie Alien. And just like Alien, the sexual identity of Samus works well because of how organic it works. Yes, she's a woman, but neither story makes it a big deal. She's the person who can get the job done, she just happens to be a woman.
I'm reminded of characters like furiosa from Mad Max or the bride from Kill Bill. They're similar to Ripley and Samus but their female identity plays a bigger role in the plot. However, all four are handled the same way from a narrative stand point, none feel compelled to scream about being a woman or constantly beat the message into our heads.
We need more female representation like these characters in entertainment or at the very least we need to encourage writers to develope some stroke of nuance and subtlety to their craft.
Looking at some people's fears with the open world, I imagine the spacious environment is only going to replace the traditional map system. Presumably you will still be entering specific districts of Tokyo and going into labyrinths like old smt.
@Kochambra I disagree. They intentionally surround the new boss enemies with elemental minions. Lure the boss over to some grass or water and nuke it down. Even on very hard with a decent leveled weapon you can burn them down fairly quickly.
Good game. Even better on higher difficulties. Musou games have a bad habit of making the extreme difficulties nothing more than damage sponge battles of attrition, but age of calamity might be the first game where a deeper understanding of the core systems actually makes these challenges more fun.
Good decade. Great characters. The only character in that photo I have no attachment to is Steve, but I'm mature enough to acknowledge that minecraft is probably a good game and my lack of interest can be attributed to "Old man yells at cloud"
Buying all six of the new monster hunter amiibo was bad enough, but to have them announce the skyward sword amiibo, the metroid dread amiibo and now wave two amiibo?! It doesn't help that I love Arms, especially Min Min, and as a huge xenoblade fanatic you can bet that I'll be picking up mythra/pyra. Good times. Good times.
@Kochambra Agreed. A good game is a good game despite how long it is. Nothing wrong with long games, mind you. Compare diablo 2 to hellblade, I've put thousands of hours into the former and only six or seven into the latter and yet both are remarkable experiences and well worth your time and money.
Perfect. Trials felt like a win for a series that has desperately needed one.
Playing through Trials a year ago I remembered how much I like those old school jrpgs like chrono trigger that focus on a quick light-hearted adventure that has fun incentives to replay multiple times.
I don't get bent out of shape about frames... except for competitive fps and fighting games. I will never play an online shooter on switch even though it's my preferred platform. These things do matter for certain games, I will not deny it, but I do question the people who scream that turn based roleplaying games are unplayable at 30fps. If I decide to get back into overwatch with the sequel it will be PC.
I have the attention span of a ferret at the moment. Trying unsuccessfully to juggle age of calamity dlc, smt 3, monster hunter, and for reasons beyond my ability to understand I'm playing another season of diablo 3. Got mario golf, although that's a game I'll only play with friends. But next week is disgagea which officially kicks off the month long gauntlet of switch game releases.
Wow. Finally got my hands on the demo... I was initially unimpressed with the visual design from the trailers but I have to say it really pops on the switch's small screen. I tried TV mode but yeah, it feels like they went into this game with handheld in mind and it looks and plays fantastic.
@PuppyToucher Not as bad as it looks, especially when you factor digital in. It's important to note that even super popular switch games dip below 10k after a month or two, but they continue to sell in the 5-10k range week after week. Too early to tell whether it's running out of gas.
@Devlind Still not sure what that has to do with people leaking stuff. Did they leak an internal memo that I didn't hear about that pointed out why the cut happened?
I see a reoccurring theme in these posts that gamefreak lied and the leaker helped expose it, but what did gamefreak lie about exactly? Weren't they rather forthcoming with the pokedex? I could have sworn during the e3 treehouse they confirmed the dex cut was happening. As for the visuals, its not like they pulled a ubisoft/insomniac move and showed gameplay not running on native hardware. Those crappy looking trees were shown front and center in the early promotional material.
2021 has been good to my switch so far and looks to finish strong. 2021 is another amazing odd numbered year like 2017 and 2019. Luckily, based on what we've seen so far 2022 might finally break the even numbered curse that seems to have plagued the switch.
Not saying we will get anything else for the anniversary but the lack of info at e3 doesn't dismiss the possibility. Nintendo is also known to straight lie about stuff. Didn't they announce mario 3d all-stars a month before launch? Also, with skyward sword just around the corner they may want to wait until after the release before talking about other zelda stuff this year.
@TheFrenchiestFry Yeah, I was surprised how much better this looks than persona 5. Admittedly, it looks a little blurry, probably at a low resolution due to switch hardware, but the art direction shines through.
@UmbreonsPapa Yeah, these things are always marked down. Every other year I buy a copy for my sister to play and even a month after launch you can snag a copy for either $40 or $30.
