Rooting for Hades. ACNH feels like the game that defined this year but it doesn't push the envelope in a way a GoTY should. I could say the same for Sony's offerings; GoT kind of feels like another generic AAA action/adventure game and while TLoU was a technical marvel with a great story... it just felt like a compelling television script inserted into a video game. I get the impression Naughty dog doesnt understands how to utilize the medium of video games to tell a story that is unique to video games and instead just borrows what it knows from film/television.
I remember discovering things like this when I decided to pokemon snap botw to 100%... it lasted 5 hours or so before I realized the task was too daunting. Maybe if I do another play through in the coming years I'll try to complete my sheikah-dex.
@eaglebob345 Same boat. Only lvl 30 and haven't played in a year and have zero desire to play anytime soon. Just let me dump the pokemon into home already!
@rallydefault I've been saying this for a while now. Nintendo gamers are more interested in a diverse collection of games, most ps and Xbox players just want cutting edge graphics and a good narrative. Take a look at the top 10 best selling ps4 games 9/10 of the top sellers are action games either action adventure or action role-playing. Switch's top 10 has eight separate genres covered in the top ten.
The reason indies and smaller budgeted games thrive on switch (especially in the west) is because people who spend $500 on a console that delivers bleeding edge graphics, mostly want to see those dollars on display meaning indies and non AAA games get overlooked.
@nessisonett Nah, they'll just do a montage of all the games in the series before showing more info on Arise and maybe MAYBE talk about a limited time statue or a Tales themed Cafe.
Holy crap! Xenoblade 2 is at 1.92 million? I remember when this franchise struggled to cross just one mill and now we are on the verge of seeing the franchise cross over to two?!
Maybe next gen is clouding everyone's minds, but these frame dips aren't too far off from BotW around launch, and that game didn't have hundreds of enemies on the screen at once. People are acting like this is somehow unprecedented when in reality it was always bound to be a 30fps game with dips into the low 20s.
I hope blast corps and mystical ninja end up pretty high on the list. When I think of my memories playing n64 those two games shoot straight to the top.
@Crono1973 most GotY editions come out a year after the final DLC is released. As was pointed out this bundle launches around the same time as the final DLC drops. Also this is nintendo, BotW and its DLC are both still regularly priced at their original full retail price. Yes, you can find both on flash sales periodically but anyone who thought this was gonna be less than $90 was just fooling themselves.
Definitely buying this for the novelty of having it. While I don't see myself playing this beyond 5 hours or so I am genuinely impressed with how this thing works. The fact that there are still cups is a surprise and seeing how they managed to incorporate different play styles for each cup is astonishing.
I fear cloud gaming will make indie projects more obscure. The low price tag is the reason many people discover indies in the first place, if you're paying a flat rate to enjoy literally every single AAA game on the market (most of which are extreme time-sinks) will the average person make time for games that aren't cutting edge?
@rjejr Halloween is a bigger deal in Japan than America these days. Seriously, look up the pictures and articles that have been written about it over the past few years.
Gamestop? Why choose a business that's on the brink of collapse for a product that's 6 months out? Not saying their doors will be shuttered by then but I could see fulfilment issues if they face financial crisis between now and then.
Personally, I like 3d world most but after replaying 3d all stars I understand why odyssey beat Galaxy despite Galaxy's universal praise. There's something so perfect to the way mario controls in a 3d environment that was established in 64 and I think the gimmicks introduced in sunshine and galaxy diminished that feeling. I still love both of those games but mario feels best when just running and jumping in a vast open world and I think odyssey truly managed to recapture what made Mario's first 3d effort so magical.
Haven't gotten to sunshine yet, but is this effecting everyone or is this another issue that is only effecting custom firmware switches? Thought the news about crashes the other day was rather funny when we all learned what was causing it.
Good to know that this hasn't been delayed to 2021. Also, this tease along with the age of calamity update on 9-26 has me hopeful for some sort of news dump at the end of the month whether it be a direct, mini, YouTube drop or whatever other nonsense Nintendo is currently experimenting with.
If there is a new monster hunter for switch I hope it comes out early next year. Capcom has a history in recent years of dropping their big games in the jan-april months.
Keeping my fingers crossed on bravely default and no more heroes releasing this year. If I'm being honest with myself I see BD making it out in time for the holidays but I see NMH slipping into 2021.
@carlos82 True, but year after year we see many games get buried beneath the avalanche of new releases in the fall. Peoples' money is finite and when everyone releases their games at once people are going to only pick up the games they want most. Even nintendo has had a few games land with a thud as a result. Look at Daemon X Machina, im not saying that game was going to set the world on fire, but having it sandwiched between 4 other nintendo published titles and a bunch of third party games on other consoles probably was not the best move for that game. Utilize the rest of that calender for godsake!
@Ambassador_Kong While I agree Nintendo can be lazy and anti-consumer, they should be recognized as being extremely employee friendly. They don't overwork their staff, they pay them well, the upper management are not paid nearly as much as other company big-wigs, they take their time with releases etc. Honestly, gamers are too selfish, if given the choice between being consumer friendly or employee friendly I say be kind to your employees. Consumers have the choice to simply not buy or engage with a product, employees are subject to the demands of their employer. People love to rant and rave about how great and pro consumer CDPR is, which is awesome, but most ignore the fact that consumers are benefiting off the blood and sweat of their employees and seem to not care so long as they get pretty games for dirt cheap. Don't even get me started on Activision, the company responsible for those remasters you listed.
Love hyrule warriors. Really happy about this announcement, but it does beg the question, why does nintendo always load so many games into the back half of every year?
@HotGoomba Nah, CDPR is guilty too. Jason Schrier did a whole article about their abusive practices. I also find it highly suspect that the game will be ready for launch when next gen drops. Sure it was in development for a while and they delayed it multiple times but I'm willing to put money on them whipping their staff just to hit that November date.
@Ambassador_Kong Not surprising when you hear all the reports about Naughty Dog, CDPR, Ubisoft etc treating their employees like crap. A global pandemic isn't going to stop any of those companies from releasing games, whether it kills their staff or not.
