Video game companies around the globe have been preparing for 2022 for some time now, and it includes Koei Tecmo.
In an end-of-year 4Gamer feature, the Japanese company teased what's to come in the new year. Apparently, it intends to reveal a number of projects that have been in development for several years and will pave the way for the company's future. One additional promise was that they would display the "full power of the current Koei Tecmo".
Team Ninja chimed in - asking fans to look forward to what's next, including one title directed by Fumihiko Yasada, which is finally taking shape after years of planning. And Yosuke Kikuchi - known for the Fatal Frame series, mentioned how his team would tackle the development of something it's never done before.
What would you like to see from Koei Tecmo in 2022? Did you play any of the games it released this year? Comment below.

Fire Emblem Warriors 2 and a new Fatal Frame would be nice
Here's your new Warriors games.
When Koei Tecmo is at their strongest, I really love their games. People like to joke and say that these guys only make Warriors games but that isn't true.
One sleeper hit franchise from recent memory that I loved is the Nioh series. Genuinely fantastic albeit unforgiving games. I spent countless hours grinding in them long after finishing them because thats just how much fun they are to play. You guys want a challenging action game with a lot of depth and replay value from Koei? Look no further than Nioh 2.
Another series I would like to return is Fatal Frame. It's been a while since we have seen a new release and the recent re-release of Fatal Frame V gives me hope. There was a time when Fatal Frame stood on its own next to Silent Hill and Resident Evil. It was niche in comparison, but surprisingly performed well in the west since it felt unique and was more interested in telling supernatural horror rather than zombie or psychological horror.
Unironically I would also love to see Dynasty Warriors to return as strong as possible. Dynasty Warriors 9 was a very sad flop of a game and I'm actually quite a big fan of the Warriors franchise. They may lack in depth but I find them wildly entertaining games to turn your brain off and dive into. I'm also sure a game or two will happen to be a collaboration with Nintendo. They seem to have been getting quite close recently.
Koei aren't the only ones who are going to be having a big 2022 though, but that doesn't need to be said. We are all aware.
Been enjoying the musou games, so bring on the games K-T.
Another Musou game perhaps? Why break a working money-making formula? xD
Seriously though, I'm hoping for anything other than a Warriors or Atelier game (although I'd still welcome it and I really enjoyed Samurai Warriors 5 a lot). A new Ninja Gaiden or Fatal Frame would be nice too but hopefully something entirely new.
I don't think a new FF game is in the works tbh.
"Yosuke Kikuchi - known for the Fatal Frame series, mentioned how his team would tackle the development of something it's never done before."
I am pretty sure it most likely means something that isn't Fatal Frame but we will see.
I do want to see Dead or Alive on Switch though. And a fighting game one not that spin-off of a beach volleyball game.
Also we also really don't know whether these will all come to Switch or not.
Tetris Warriors
Translation: transitioning into bold new gaming directions including mobile, NFT, and block-chains! Aren't you all excited?!
Feels very much like they are gearing towards PS5 and Xbox Series releases. And since we know NL, et at can't get enough of those sweet clicks, we'll hear about whatever games KT is making that won't come to a Nintendo system on those sites. What a time to be alive! It'll be like the Wii U, all over again!
@IronMan30 well, we still don't know and we will have to wait and see. I am pretty sure some of them are gonna have Switch releases considering KT has pretty much ALMOST ported every recent game they made to Switch (excluding DOA 6 and also Nioh which is a PS console exclusive and PS has the rights iirc).
Then again, I could be wrong and they might not come to the Switch at all
Dead or alive 7
I want a new Dead or Alive game. DOA6 was letdown. Need to improve on that one.
@IronMan30 well, it’s a Japanese company, and since the Switch is the only platform that’s selling well in Japan, I doubt there’s not going to be Switch games among the announcements.
I would love to see a new Ninja gaiden, and dead or Alive.
I need to remember that every game from koei isn't from Team ninja 😅
I'm only hype for their games when it comes to koei
A new DOA fighting game or a remastered of Fatal Frame IV for Switch would be nice.
Probably another Fatal Frame which is why they did a remaster of Maiden of the Black Water.
Also Dead or Alive Xtreme 4
@moodycat That's how I feel about Entergram.. Dozens of romance visual novels with physical releases on the Switch. None have had an English localization. If other companies can do it then so can they, lol
Tecmo Bowl 2000?
@ChakraStomps So yes! In honor of John Madden, they should definitely remake the original Tecmo Bowl and add JM as a commentator or an in-game coach for the game. That would be a great tribute to the man that defined football.
Hyrule warriors the Shiekah war ?
Ah great another load of games that they will say The Switch is "Not Powerful Enough" to run in other words cant be arsed to port
Bet you money on it
Would love a new Fatal Frame (Or a HD remaster of either of the original Wii entries).
So basically there's still a chance for Symphogear Warriors. 😉
Oh, and how about a western release announcement for the Nosurge dilogy? And maybe a historical first Atelier Salburg arc in official English? And maybe the respective first Blue Reflection and Nights of Azure? Yes, I'm greedy.
@Bunkerneath @giancarlothomaz you guys make it sound like Switch doesn't get a truckload of games under Koei Tecmo banner every year, including a few exclusives here and there.
oh nice Koei Tecmo is gonna release more game then Switch wont handle, all power to PS5 e Xbox Series X/S.
Just give me a little warning so I can buckle up
@RubyDevilNine Are you talking about the Master Collection? I think I read somewhere that the reason for the censorship (of 2) was that they lost the original code for the uncensored version. Makes sense since 1 and 3 were intact.
Goemon's return would be nice.
Samurai warriors 5 Xtreme legends! Probably
I'm in the mood for something new. Anyone else bored of musou yet?
That said...Xenoblade Warriors please hahaha!
Hoping Stranger of Paradise is a game that can put Team Ninja back to its glory days of the Ninja Gaiden titles.
Also, I don’t know if this would be “Koei Tecmo at full power,” but I’d love to see them bring back the Nobunaga’s Ambition crossover with Pokemon, or the Romance of the Three Kingdoms crossover with Yokai Watch
No offense, but the opening sentence of this article is one of the weakest I've ever seen anywhere.
Great. More Winning Post, more Dynasty Warriors, more Atelier, more One Piece, and more Nobunaga's Ambition. Can't wait! /sarcasm Come on KT, how about a Switch port for Dead or Alive 6?
Yeah, I'm reading way too much stuff here to make me think they're sticking with the Switch. Xtreme Beach Volleyball on UE5 is my guess.
Hopefully top draw Switch games please
@Friendly fair point, it is entirely possible they do put some games on Switch since they have collaborated with Nintendo more than once.
@IronMan30 true. I liked Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, which was a nice collaboration.
is that a threat
@Pikachupwnage FEW is highly underrated. its not without it's flaws but is still an entertaining game 7.5/10 imo
I would absolutely love to see another collaboration with Nintendo, especially if we're talking Dynasty Warriors. Koei Tecmo has proven to be capable of creating spin-offs that fit in so well with their respective franchises, most recently being Age of Calamity.
Just imagine they decided to make another Zelda spin-off, but in the style of Ninja Gaiden.
Ninja Gaiden, but good on nintendo switch because the previous port sucked
I read the headline too fast and thought it said Kemco. 🤣 That would be a sight to see!
@Bunkerneath News flash, the Switch isn't that powerful.
@IronMan30 Would be nice if another collaboration didn't mean another Warriors-esque game. Lord knows they haven't been pumping out enough of those games already.
What I would give to see a Ninja Gaiden style Zelda game.
But if Koei Tecmo were to port the DOA fighting games over to Switch, that would be nice too.
Don't forget that they also developed Fire Emblem Three Houses, to a big part.
That is also a franchise that could potentially get a new entry.
@Varkster I'm too scared to play fatal frame lol.
@russell-marlow ngl, DOA would be pretty nice.
I'm probably in a big minority here, but I would LOVE to see a translated Winning Post, or a Champion Jockey/Gallop Racer. It's one of my favorite genres, and I'm really sad not to have one in the west on modern consoles.
Full power*
*not including English voice acting
I'm hoping for more Nintendo cooperative titles akin to FE Warriors and Hyrule warriors. As long as their new titles let me change their controls unlike AoC. That was the worst part of the game-
Please, don't make another Ninja Gaiden 3.
Persona 3 and 4 Strikers please!
@russell-marlow I know, but I was also being ironic
@Bunkerneath The way you worded it made it sound like you were being sincere. People do like to point to the sales numbers and popularity of the Switch as a big reason why more companies should invest into porting and optimizing Switch games.
But because of the Switch tax and current events that are happening with electronic component shortages and such, it's no wonder why some companies are taking the easy route and giving us download-only or Cloud gaming versions of certain games that would take time to thoroughly port.
I mean, how much does Nintendo pay other companies for ports of AAA games?
@Friendly there is a pretty big chance that it could all come to Switch. But who knows to be exact. They could all be coming to Switch or they are all not coming to Switch or some of them are Switch games. Koei Tecmo has ported almost all of their new games onto Switch. They are big on Switch and their games sell well on Switch and KT knows that. Not only that, we could have an exclusive Nintendo musou spin-off in the works too. Who knows. Also to mention, Koei Tecmo puts a ton of games on Switch. Like a truckload. Switch almost has all the new Koei Tecmo games
Maybe some of these projects could be revealed at that rumored Nintendo Direct that is either happening in January or February
@Specter_of-the_OLED I think some of their projects could be revealed at that rumored Nintendo Direct but then again I might be wrong
@Pikachupwnage hmm that’s good stuff. I want to see a port of Fatal Frame Deep Crimson Butterfly on Switch mostly
