Awesome. 3d world is my favorite 3d mario game (controversial, I know) but I will admit it did feel slow. Thankfully they sped this up but it looks like the increased speed doesn't mess with his jump distance, which I feared would screw up the balance and timing of the platforming.
Where is the Age of Calamity acrylic panel art that has been "coming soon" since early November? I have quite a few coins saved up but all the things I want are either sold out or never being released, apparently.
@FX102A Seriously. Where is the CE? I have both of the previous bravely CE and the Octopath CE. I know covid probably has something to do with this, but I'm still disappointed to hear that I'll have to settle for a regular physical box.
@ramu-chan No, MH doesn't need to change its combat. If people don't like it, thats fine, don't play it. Most people who play monster hunter games enjoy the slow deliberate movement of the game. It shouldn't disappoint the core audience to chase after others.
@nessisonett @ramu-chan I have a gaming PC and gaming laptop and yes, I can tell the difference between 60 and 30 fps as well, but unless I'm playing a shooter or fighting game it genuinely doesn't effect gameplay for me personally. My comment was mostly at the people who claim a 60fps game that sometimes dips to 55 frames or a 30fps game that occasionally goes to 28 is somehow unplayable when I know the vast majority would only see these numbers when directly told. As for resolution. Thats more of an asthetic thing, I struggle to think of a time when bad resolution has actually negatively impacted my ability to enjoy a game; poor resolution may initially deflate some of my enthusiasm but its quickly swept under the rug. Artistic vision trumps graphical might for me, but thats probably just because I studied art in college. I'm not saying people aren't capable of distinguishing these things but I highly doubt most can.
@danemord This is the craziest thing about the modern gamer. If groups like digital foundry didn't exist most gamers wouldn't notice most resolution numbers or fps dips unless their egregious. But as soon as you tell people the numbers suddenly its an unplayable mess.
Its not surprising to see so many third party exclusives hit the switch this year. Let's not forget, unlike a traditional console launch, nintendo kept the switch under lock and key and kind of surprised both the public and their partners.
Even if a third party wanted to make an exclusive for the switch the earliest they could have started was probably six months before launch and with the failure of the wii u most wanted to see a success before committing.
As we near the fourth anniversary, we are now seeing the projects most of these companies have been working on for the past 3-4 years, which is exciting because I get the impression the second half of the switch's life will be packed with great games.
Holy crap, 2020 was actually pretty darn good for switch indies. Strangely I bought like 10 of these but didn't appreciate how great the release schedule was last year... for indies at least.
Speaking of, they ever gonna release that second age of calamity reward? To my knowledge it never released, either that or it sold out so quickly I missed it.
Good start to 2021. February is stacked and when you start including digital only releases it just blows my mind that the first three months of this year is better than the bulk of 2020.
Oh, oh-oh! You see, the gamers these days, they listen to the industry analysts, which gives them the brain damage. With the hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin', they don't know what the gaming is all about. Y'see, gaming is like Jello pudding... no, that's not it. Gaming is like Kodak film... no, that's not right neither. I've got it, Gaming is like the New Nintendo Switch - it'll be around forever!
Rent moratorium has lifted in some places, including reddit. Where will all these people go if they get kicked out of reddit? This will only fuel the internet homeless problem.
Side note: I honestly can't tell if this is a joke or someone on a power trip.
@Vsaxo27 i will echo this sentiment. I also own a fairly pricey gaming laptop but for anyone that thinks these things are on par with the switch for portable gaming are out of their minds. It is very bulky and extremely heavy/uncomfortable to use while chilling on the couch. I mostly use it when I go to a friend's house for LAN play or D&D, however, thanks to covid I haven't touched the thing in months. The switch's small form factor is unlike any other device i own and is great when someone else has the TV and I just want to game comfortably on my couch.
Bought ring fit at launch and managed to get back down to my ideal weight. Great product but once animal crossing hit I stopped playing. Put back almost all the weight i lost thanks to the holidays so I decided to fire it back up and the game is killing me! Seriously, my legs and abs do not want to work today.
@Kimyonaakuma No idea but its been part of the American zeitgeist for well over a decade now. I remember back in 2008 when I worked at target they put out an end cap for the latest CoD and put bags of doritos and cases of mountain dew right next to new copies of the game.
@MysticX This. Honestly, all these events need to have alternatives to balloons. Toy day was nearly ruined for me because of the amount of balloon farming I needed to do just to decorate my town for the season.
@PALversusNTSC I hope it is. BD deserves much more praise than octopath. Also, to clarify, I don't hate octo but there are so many gameplay design decisions in octo that seem so backwards and antithetical to the genuinely creative ideas brought to the table by BD.
Doom eternal one of the biggest visual downgrades on switch? I've seen far FAR worse. Hell, Eternal looks better than 2016.
Shocking to see origami king missing considering how many ports are listed. Also surprised to see NMH1 lower than NMH2. But whatever, XC was number 1! Finally getting the recognition it rightfully deserves!
I get the hate people have over the visuals but I am genuinely shocked by how much people prefer pretty games to games with interesting systems. Octopath, from a gameplay perspective, was a HUGE step down from the bravely series. Limited number of jobs, jobs in general were generic, no way to control random encounters, multiclassing was shallow, player had little control over the flow of battles. In fact, the only noteworthy addition octo made to the bravely formula was the weakness break system, which was awesome. Yet Octopath sold a lot more and I fear bravely default 2 will fail to break the 2 million sales mark despite its much better gameplay hooks because "chibi bad, nostalgia SNES good"
Played a demo of this years ago at PAX and felt very concerned about the endless runner angle. When the developer asked me what I thought I awkwardly told him it was fun... I could have saved the game! I could have told him it sucked! Direct all of your criticisms and hatred of the new meat boy game towards me, I deserve it. I have failed humanity!

Fur texture is... something. Felt would have been better or just a smooth plastic surface honestly.
