Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity 'Free' Expansion Pass Exploit Fully Closed

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

@Henmii How is this greedy? If a store forgot to lock an item up and no one was currently manning the registers that doesn't mean you're allowed to walk out of the store with the item. You still know, on a moral level, that what you are doing is stealing.

This isn't like nintendo intentionally set this up as a trap to trick consumers, this was an error on their part and greedy consumers swooped in to see if they could get away with it. They shouldn't honor anything. If this was a physical item in the real world not only would you not be allowed to keep it, you would also be fined for taking the item.

I realize I'm Coming off pretty harsh here, and believe me, I have no real sympathy for rich corporations. But, I'm also am not a fan of internet morality where "x" is bad, therefore I should get things for free!

Re: Gallery: Check Out These Famicom Detective Club Original Vs. Remake Shots

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

@Ulysses Not at all. While both games have a slight tinge of the supernatural, neither story is horror. In fact I find it odd that the girl who stands behind draws so much attention to its ghostly premise because if you go in expecting horror, you may be disappointed. Heck, there is just as much paranormal window dressing in the missing heir and that hardly ever gets brought up when discussing these two games.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Teases Exciting Announcements For 35th Anniversary

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

The most fun aspect of a pending DQ announcement is trying to peg what platform it will release on. This is a series that went from ps2, to ds, to wii mmorpg, then to a multi Plat where the best selling version in japan was on... 3ds? I kind of assume the next one will be multiplat as well but they could surprise with switch exclusivity or even a smartphone release of DQ12 that's also a life sim because reasons.

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

I respectfully disagree. But first let me tell you why I like amiibo.

Amiibo are a form of dlc... the best form of dlc. Amiibo are dlc that are also little figures you can put up on a shelf. You can use them infinitely and even across multiple games for a one time payment. Best of all you can share them with friends and even sell them if you no longer want/need them.

With that said, this amiibo is pretty disappointing and I have a hard time brushing this off. This is not dlc, this is a QoL feature locked behind a pay wall. It's greedy and wrong.

Re: Soapbox: Game Genres Are Broken

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

Another point, why do people get so hung up on terms like metroidvania or roguelike? You don't need to know the etymology of a word to use it, that's not how language works. If you sit a person down and have them play a handful of metroidvanias and explain to them that they are called "metroidvanias" they'll immediately understand the genre. When people describe boring individuals as "milquetoast" or talk about movie studio "tentpole releases" do people actually know the origin of these terms? Probably not, it probably doesn't even register in their brain, but they do understand its meaning and that's all that matters.

Re: Soapbox: Game Genres Are Broken

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

I feel like this is mostly an issue with AAA. Sure, smaller budget and indies may blend a few genres together but I feel like every single western developed AAA game is designed off market trends and tend to just approach game development with a kitchen sink philosophy. This is why I care more for japanese games and western indies.

Let's be honest, it's the market that is doing this to western AAA games. If I have to hear one more bad take about why Capcom games like monhun or RE should go open world and add more rpg character progression systems because "reasons " I'll scream.

Re: Surprise! Nintendo Confirms That "Many" New Games Are Coming This Year

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

@Ayilios Yup. 2019 was one of the best. It's odd that a lot of people online seem to ignore this year and claim 2017 was the only good year of the switch. Honestly 2020 was the only truly bad year but 2019 was an all-time high for nintendo.

I feel like nintendo fans need to learn to get out of their comfort zones. 2021 so far has been pretty amazing... so long as you dig third party stuff. We had a triple whammy with bravely default, monhun, and pokemon snap. Looking on the horizon there's plenty of good stuff coming from companies not called nintendo. Sure I would like nintendo to do more but I'm not gonna cry if they don't; I'm sure Capcom, square Enix, falcom, marvelous, atlus and a host of other companies will keep me entertained on the switch.

Re: Japanese Charts: New Pokémon Snap's Off To A Good Start, But Resident Evil Village Is A Major Threat

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

@carlos82 I enjoyed village more than snap, but to be fair, playstation games have terrible legs in japan compared to nintendo stuff these days. It's impressive that village sold that much in two days but snap and monhun will remain in the top ten for a while whereas village will probably be out by week three or four. This isn't the us or uk charts here.

Re: Hitman 3 - Cloud Version Now Includes 60FPS Performance Mode On Switch

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

To answer the "play anywhere internet" dilemma, you can just Hotspot your phone. I'm a field employee for an electric utility and I do this all the time if I want to play something online; been doing this a lot lately with MH:R.

Sure, streaming a game eats a lot more data than an online match of splatoon or mario kart, but you run into the same data problem if you were to do this with any other mobile device.

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For May And June 2021

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

@Deepdoop No doubt. This is weird to say but for once in the switch's lifespan nintendo seems to be taking a nap while third parties are finally stepping up to bat. Third party we've already gotten bravely default, ghost n goblins, and monster hunter. But pretty soon we're getting smt 3 and 5, disgaea 6, monhun stories 2, world ends with you, ys, ace attorney, no more heroes 3, rune factory and I'm sure a few others I forgot. Thats a lot of third party with a healthy dose of exclusives, console exclusives, and multiplat.

Re: Feature: Every Mega Man Game Ranked

Cromulent_JohnyCakes

Glad to see mega man 11 rank high amongst the original series. Only 2, 3, and 9 beat it. I was listening to retronauts and they ranked it dead last... I respect those people and everything but it definitely seemed like "old man yells at cloud" justification for its low rank.
