@TheFrenchiestFry I'll continue to complain so long as they continue to conduct surveys every year that don't amount to anything. Mind you, this isn't even a Switch issue as Atlus' stupidity bleeds over to other consoles too. This is the same company that ported persona 4 golden to steam... but not ps4. Yeah, because that makes sense.
I'm not buying this story. In the off chance it is true, it's at least refreshing to think that a dev took note of player demand and did something about it... looking at you, Atlus.
@BloodNinja Guessing a lot of the Elden Ring footage was in-game. Yes it looks good, but there's also some elements that look kind of rough like the fur textures.
I LOVE all things Evil Dead. Watched these movies with my dad back when I was seven years old and have been a huge fan ever since. Will definitely be checking this out.
I'm glad motion controls are still included as an option. I probably won't use them but I may try it out when playing with friends. It's also cool for casual players who may enjoy an experience more similar to wii sports.
@Henmii How is this greedy? If a store forgot to lock an item up and no one was currently manning the registers that doesn't mean you're allowed to walk out of the store with the item. You still know, on a moral level, that what you are doing is stealing.
This isn't like nintendo intentionally set this up as a trap to trick consumers, this was an error on their part and greedy consumers swooped in to see if they could get away with it. They shouldn't honor anything. If this was a physical item in the real world not only would you not be allowed to keep it, you would also be fined for taking the item.
I realize I'm Coming off pretty harsh here, and believe me, I have no real sympathy for rich corporations. But, I'm also am not a fan of internet morality where "x" is bad, therefore I should get things for free!
$50 is fine. Now that ps5 and Xbox games cost $70 all switch games are technically budget titles even at $60, so $50 sounds like a good price for something like a new wario ware.
@Brumblescope sadly, monhun stuff was added to mii fighters so probably not. Also, if they did throw in a monhun rep it should be a palico. More wacky fighters for smash, no more serious characters!
@Ulysses Not at all. While both games have a slight tinge of the supernatural, neither story is horror. In fact I find it odd that the girl who stands behind draws so much attention to its ghostly premise because if you go in expecting horror, you may be disappointed. Heck, there is just as much paranormal window dressing in the missing heir and that hardly ever gets brought up when discussing these two games.
Miitopia continues to surprise me with its sales. It currently the best selling game on amazon US and also at the top of the eshop. I'm guessing the demo helped once social media began sharing all the ridiculous things you can make with the new mii editor.
The most fun aspect of a pending DQ announcement is trying to peg what platform it will release on. This is a series that went from ps2, to ds, to wii mmorpg, then to a multi Plat where the best selling version in japan was on... 3ds? I kind of assume the next one will be multiplat as well but they could surprise with switch exclusivity or even a smartphone release of DQ12 that's also a life sim because reasons.
I respectfully disagree. But first let me tell you why I like amiibo.
Amiibo are a form of dlc... the best form of dlc. Amiibo are dlc that are also little figures you can put up on a shelf. You can use them infinitely and even across multiple games for a one time payment. Best of all you can share them with friends and even sell them if you no longer want/need them.
With that said, this amiibo is pretty disappointing and I have a hard time brushing this off. This is not dlc, this is a QoL feature locked behind a pay wall. It's greedy and wrong.
@3RedTriangles I don't even think Iwata sorcery could make the game run at a smooth clip. This is basically the BotW engine, an engine that even after numerous updates couldn't run certain areas at 30fps, with the number of enemies on screen multiplied by 100. I love the game, but hoping for a smooth 30fps is a pipe dream in this case.
Ouch. Big drop for RE even though it's still #1. Technically did worse its second week than NPS. Probably will vanish from top ten by week 4. At least it's doing well overseas. Maybe that rumored switch RE will do decent numbers in japan.
I love amiibo and will probably get this one for my shelf, but good god... locking QoL behind an amiibo? Really? Why not just lock the new 60fps behind an amiibo too while we're at it.
Another point, why do people get so hung up on terms like metroidvania or roguelike? You don't need to know the etymology of a word to use it, that's not how language works. If you sit a person down and have them play a handful of metroidvanias and explain to them that they are called "metroidvanias" they'll immediately understand the genre. When people describe boring individuals as "milquetoast" or talk about movie studio "tentpole releases" do people actually know the origin of these terms? Probably not, it probably doesn't even register in their brain, but they do understand its meaning and that's all that matters.
I feel like this is mostly an issue with AAA. Sure, smaller budget and indies may blend a few genres together but I feel like every single western developed AAA game is designed off market trends and tend to just approach game development with a kitchen sink philosophy. This is why I care more for japanese games and western indies.
Let's be honest, it's the market that is doing this to western AAA games. If I have to hear one more bad take about why Capcom games like monhun or RE should go open world and add more rpg character progression systems because "reasons " I'll scream.
@Ayilios Yup. 2019 was one of the best. It's odd that a lot of people online seem to ignore this year and claim 2017 was the only good year of the switch. Honestly 2020 was the only truly bad year but 2019 was an all-time high for nintendo.
I feel like nintendo fans need to learn to get out of their comfort zones. 2021 so far has been pretty amazing... so long as you dig third party stuff. We had a triple whammy with bravely default, monhun, and pokemon snap. Looking on the horizon there's plenty of good stuff coming from companies not called nintendo. Sure I would like nintendo to do more but I'm not gonna cry if they don't; I'm sure Capcom, square Enix, falcom, marvelous, atlus and a host of other companies will keep me entertained on the switch.
@carlos82 I enjoyed village more than snap, but to be fair, playstation games have terrible legs in japan compared to nintendo stuff these days. It's impressive that village sold that much in two days but snap and monhun will remain in the top ten for a while whereas village will probably be out by week three or four. This isn't the us or uk charts here.
To answer the "play anywhere internet" dilemma, you can just Hotspot your phone. I'm a field employee for an electric utility and I do this all the time if I want to play something online; been doing this a lot lately with MH:R.
Sure, streaming a game eats a lot more data than an online match of splatoon or mario kart, but you run into the same data problem if you were to do this with any other mobile device.
@stinky_t Thank you. Everyone just relax. And to think, earlier this morning in response to that metroid article, someone got upset because I said online communities - including nintendolife - are filled with insufferable jerks... stay classy, everyone!
@nessisonett "the metroid community is better than this" no its not. As you mentioned, even this very site has bad apples. And let's not kid ourselves, the attitudes displayed on any online community are a microcosm of the bigger problems present in all walks of internet culture.
How is it that HAL Labs still isn't owned by Nintendo? I'm not the biggest fan of corporate consolidation but that one does leave me scratching my head from time to time.
Weird how ray tracing is the new hotness for next gen only to discover next gen still struggles with Ray tracing. RE village on ps5 can't get over 30fps with Ray tracing on. Looks like yet another marketing tool to get people to buy stuff when all we really need is better performance.
RE Village with breaks to play pokemon snap and Monster hunter Rise. Sad that I don't have a ps5 because there hasn't been a reason for me to actually play my ps4 in a long time.
I listen to a lot of video game podcasts and there are people working in the industry that were unaware that Mii existed on the switch years after launch. Sadly, this isn't a feature that is revealed to the player upfront like in the wii days and maybe it should be.
@HawkeyeWii I sometimes wonder how much time we have left on our old NES carts. Two of my NES games - Maniac Mansion and Bucky O'Hare - no longer work, sadly.
@-Juice- Agreed. This seems less like they had inside knowledge and more like a company trying to calculate the release schedule of a competitor and plan accordingly.
@Crockin the re-snap is indeed the coolest feature. It's especially cool that the game actually captures more visual information than you think which allows you to zoom out or reposition the camera beyond the edges of the frame.
@Deepdoop No doubt. This is weird to say but for once in the switch's lifespan nintendo seems to be taking a nap while third parties are finally stepping up to bat. Third party we've already gotten bravely default, ghost n goblins, and monster hunter. But pretty soon we're getting smt 3 and 5, disgaea 6, monhun stories 2, world ends with you, ys, ace attorney, no more heroes 3, rune factory and I'm sure a few others I forgot. Thats a lot of third party with a healthy dose of exclusives, console exclusives, and multiplat.
Glad to see mega man 11 rank high amongst the original series. Only 2, 3, and 9 beat it. I was listening to retronauts and they ranked it dead last... I respect those people and everything but it definitely seemed like "old man yells at cloud" justification for its low rank.
