The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition is obviously a massive open-world RPG, so just how much of your precious microSD memory will it take up if you decide to go with a digital copy? According to the Switch eShop listing, the game requires a whopping 28.1GB of free space.
It's not all that surprising when you consider the fact this game includes not only the insanely large main game (featuring over 100 hours of content) but also both of the expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. It also comes with every piece of DLC. If you are interested in picking up a digital copy of this game, you can now pre-purchase it from the eShop in North America for $59.99.
And for those wondering, earlier this year, in June, Saber Interactive and CD Projekt confirmed the entire game would be included on the physical version. The game card will be 32GB in size. This boxed edition will also come with some additional goodies, which you can check out in our previous post.
Will you be pre-purchasing a digital copy of The Witcher 3 ahead of release? Leave a comment down below.

$60 for a game that I can get for $40 on PS4 or Xbox One. Sorry Nintendo you're not getting my money for being so greedy.
@Tasuki
Grow up man...
If I grab it, im going physical. Love that 32gb cart
@Tasuki Nintendo doesn’t set the price for third party games (except for the ones they publish and Witcher 3 is seemingly being published by CD Projekt Red worldwide, not Nintendo).
That size is smaller than expected. Surprised they didn't get close to max out.
@Galarian_Lassie I've seen so many other games doing this too, nothing new to see a game ported from (for example) PC to consoles and the porst are full price.
But even then the pre-order is €49.99 in my country for the physical one, and this is the complete edition with all the dlc.
Dlc that wasn't included with the original €49.99 (PC) and €59.99 (consoles) release, sure the game is dirt cheap on other systems now, but that's always the case with games that are longer available for older systems, I mean looking at Burnout Paradise on PC/PS3/X360 you can get it for around €3 nowdays, while the "remastered" PS4 and Xbox One variants were a €40 at launch ("remaster" because essentially they are the tweaked max settings PC version)
People forget that this is not a Switch only issue, the only reason we see this so much on the Switch is because before it nobody cared to bring the big games (like the Witcher 3 or Doom) on a Nintendo system for various reasons (and I don't count the pre Wii era)
@Captain_Toad Steam version is around 54gb (the GOTY one) so this is essentially half of that, like expected because they removed a lot of graphical fidelity plus the Switch version is 720p in dock and 540p in portable while the PC one goes up to native 4K.
28gb of pure content, because this game is gigantic content and world wise.
Definitely getting it. Physical though, a day one must buy. I'm pre-ordering.
Getting this physical to support the use of 32 GB card. I applaud them for fitting this game and its DLC onto one card with no extra downloads. I don't care if it's $60. Very excited to experience this game for the first time.
Physical it is then. I'm pretty conservative with SD card space.
Can’t wait for this. Had it on PS4 never got around to playing it. I’m definitely supporting the achievement of getting this to run on the Switch.
Is that really the box art? Seriously? No... It can't just be the title on a white background. There is no way they were THAT lazy.
Not a bad file size considering it's over 50GB on PC. I'll be getting the physical copy, just going to wait a bit of time to get it to get it cheper and give myself more time to clear my backlog.
Bravo.
The full fat game with both expansions, all 16 DLC on a 32gb cartridge with no download. And the game looks like an amazing port. Unfathomable to see such high quality and value all around.
Not only am I going to buy this game day one and sell my PS4 version to help fund it, I’m going to preload this and buy it digitally as well. Already downloaded in fact.
CD Project Red, showin’ em how it’s done.
@Rayquaza2510 That what surprises me the most, after hearing how much stuff is stuffed in the game, not including the expansion packs. I was thinking. "How the heck they gonna fit all of this in a 32 gb cart?" If graphical fidelity is all they have to reduce to slice up memory, then.. wonder what graphical wizardry can be achieved with a bigger card size...
Whichever the case, glad it's being shipped the way it is. Cases of 32 gig game cards being sold for the switch at the moment b/c of size tax(? correct me if I'm wrong) are rare. Games that go over the 32 gig limit even being a thought process for the Switch is even rarer.
Project Red, I didn't think you would actually do something like this but lo and behold you done it. Now to see how the game actually runs when we get our hands on it soon.
@Heavyarms55 Nope

Damn, I'll be buying this again I guess. ...I'm a sucker for supporting card releases.
Technically though: Does anyone know which actually loads fastest while playing: A card version, or a Download only version? ...I assume the Download only would run faster, but maybe I'm missing something.
@Galarian_Lassie Thank goodness! If that really was how lazy they were being with the box art. I'd not have bought the game. I couldn't trust they would do a good job porting it, if they couldn't bother making a proper box...
I've been all digital up to now. Need to stay strong!
@Quincy I remember a while back Digital Foundry tested load speeds. They found that game cards were the slowest, SD cards were faster, and internal memory was the fastest.
I have a 400 gb SD card in my Switch, but I’m still gonna go with the physical edition cuz that game is sooo big. Love hearing all the good stuff about the game on Switch. I’ve played it on PS4 and wanna give it another go with a different armor set
It's still a lot smaller than PS4 version. This will be the first game in the West with a 32 GB cart.
@Tasuki It's often on for 70% off on the PlayStation Store.
It's a good thing I invested my tax return check in that 1TB micro sd card then.
That's right. Loathe me peasants. LOATHE ME!
@Tasuki It's pricey due to age, but atleast it's portable for the first time ever.
And pricing again.. When a Indie charges 40$ for a game with NES gfx, they sure can charge 60$ for Witcher 3 with all DLC.
Most Indies is overpriced nowadays, and i never see anyone complain about that.
@SeantheDon29 I would too if I could find them in stock anywhere 😁
If I do buy it’s going to be a physical copy like I try to get for all my games.
@Tasuki
Idiot. It's had t be built from the ground up for the switch, a lot of work has been out in too even get it working on the switch so devs deserve the money. Also Nintendo have nothing to do.with the pricing.
Also we see this all the time when a game that's been out for some time comes to another console
If you love The UbiSoft model of filling a map with Question marks leading to nothing interesting you’ll love this game
@Captain_Toad It may actually be maxed out (at least to what they can utilize). See, while we look at the game size in GB, it's actually GiB. This is because GB is base 10. Easy for us to work with, but computers work with base 2, which is what GiB refers to. 32GB is really about 29.8GiB. With Witcher 3 being 28.1GiB, that leaves 1.7GiB of space left. Why not utilize the rest? It's probably in use in the form of Switch FW updates. If the game required 8.1.0, then the game card would need to include an update that can update to 8.1.0 all the way from 1.0.0, because there's always a chance someone may have the system on the original FW but does not have an internet connection (or a reliable one) to be able to update that way.
Im perfectly fine with 60$ for the EFFORT they put in to make this possible. That said I don't like nor play the Witcher games!
I near feel compelled to buy the game just because CD Projekt Red and Saber Interactive have put so much effort into this and aren't cheaping out.
Fair play to them.
@Tasuki People who work on ports to Switch need to eat too. Ports don't fall out of sky. What's wrong with you?
@puddinggirl
You can bet they are the type that moan the switch gets no third party support and when it does the will have something to moan about. With people like that I can understand why devs dont want to make games
How much do you bet there is going to be a day 1 update, therefore all expansions on the one cart will be pointless.
@Tasuki I got the PS4 version for £13.49 in January. You can't compare a game that was released 4 years ago on other consoles to a port that is not even released yet. I am the first one to get pissed off when a game is released on all platform at the same time and is more expensive on the Switch, but that's different.
@Tasuki it will be fun to play those versions on the train though!!
P.s: it is not Nintendo that specifies the price of third party games...
Great to see a game on a 32GB cart. They should be supported for this...
Worth every cent, a beautiful game i can play at home and on the go, hell yeah sold!
I already sold my PS4 because it was collecting dust. Now its just Nintendo switch and my Xbox One.
@Tasuki
It's not Nintendo being greedy, it's the development team charging for a port that probably required thousands of hours of work by people with more skills at development than any one of us can claim. If you don't like it fine, don't buy it or wait for a sale, but stating Nintendo are being greedy for a 3rd party dev pricing this as a full price game is just wrong
Does this mean Cyberpunk is coming to Switch as well?
Can't wait for this. Seriously thinking about getting it physical, otherwise it's going to use too much card space .... Will see.
Backlog still awaits though, this might have to wait...
Would love to support this physical release!!
However I have the game on PlayStation and no time to play it anyway, so I can not justify the purchase.
@Bunkerneath it might have a day 1 patch or update (which is a huge problem these days)
But actually most physical games can still be played without updating even if one exist.
I almost exclusively play my switch where I don’t have access to wifi, and my physical carts are fine.
I'll get it eventually. Zelda and Luigi's Mansion take priority soz
@Tasuki I found the troll everyone!
@konbinilife I know, I was just in a moaning mood earlier this morning
@Tasuki bruh
Day one. Seeing this get a 32 GB card is awesome. I will support them.
@Tasuki What? Do you even realise that it isn't Nintendo that sets this price?
____
I buy all my big games physical anyway, only buy Indie and old ports like FF7 digitally.
This is a first day purchase and its one of the big games that'll be on the Switch... as important if not more so than Skyrim.
Hoping this might convince Rockstar to give us GTA5.
For first timers you’re really in for a treat. This is one of my favorite experiences of all time. I very well may double dip on this one, tho I may wait for a sale.
@Tasuki
3d party puts the price tag, not Nintendo.
And the game is rebuild from the ground up.
I'm just glad to see a company actually using the right size game card instead of releasing a "physical" game you still have to download. Speaking of which, my Switch SD Card is already bursting at the seams so physical for me.
This is the kind of game I'd rather play with max visuals on other platforms, but it's still cool to see such an immense game on a handheld of all things!
@Tasuki Just wait and buy it used, it is how a lot of people get games they want, I was able to get a few games for cheap this way.
Day one physical for me
@Tasuki I think you can play in on Xbox game pass actually and I’ve seen it for around $17 used even at GameStop. This is definitely a game you can get cheaper on another system.
I for one will be getting this on Switch. I have plans of getting an Xbox at some point ( Black Friday)but it’s just so much easier to get gaming time on my Switch since I don’t have to share the TV with my littles. This is going to be a game that takes a lot of hours it would probably take me years to finish if I were constrained to only playing on my TV.
I’ll hold out until Black Friday and hope there is some kind of major deal. To many new games coming out to pay full price for an old one.
@Tasuki You can’t bring a PS4 to the park. That alone is worth $20 easily.
@Heavyarms55 I guess you've never seen UK Final Fantasy box arts before? They're done very well.
Those placeholder box arts are very normal, most games have a white or black art before the final design is decided on.
Meanwhile...
Capcom: We can only fit one PS2 game on a cartridge. Here's a download code for everything else you bought.
@otterskateboard get off Nintendo’s nuts
It´s not that big because the Switch version will get smaller textures. Have it on pc. But never had time to finish it. Maybe the switch will solve my problem.
@Tasuki It's that price cause of the 32GB cartridge. Nothing to do with greed.
@Tasuki actually a little less than 15 now on PS4
@Tasuki it's the game more their DLCs, they deserve the money
@Tasuki
Then buy it there. Why do people assume that porting a game across completely incompatible platforms is as easy as copy and paste? Thousands of hours probably went into porting the game, and the perk is being able to carry the game anywhere you go.
$60 is very reasonable, considering it includes all DLC. What, were you expecting them to invest all of the time and resources only to release it for $20?
@Tasuki I bought it for a mere £8 on the last Xbox digital sale. Guess what? I haven’t played it. My life doesn’t allow me a lot of time to play games via a box connected to my TV.
I will be shelling out for this on Switch and I know I’ll sink a lot of my time into it. I will then look at the ratio of time spent playing the game against the money I spent on the game and the Switch version will prove itself of better value in that sense than the version I spent £8 on.
It’s a great game and if you only want to play handheld, this is the only way to go. If you want to play on your tv, then it’s silly to get this version. If you can pay $60 for this, you are well on your way to investing in another system.
I think $60 is high. Yes porting this to a much less powerful machine wasn’t easy. But it didn’t cost them anywhere near the money or time that it takes to create a new game.
And Nintendo doesn’t control the price. But if they did, it would still be $60.
@Tasuki People do work and work costs money. In other news, water is wet.
@WOLF13 Yeah I agree, the console version has not compressed textures and audio like the Switch version and the Game of the Year edition is much cheaper on Xbox and PS and often included in sales for around £18. The developer made a great effort, around a year porting the game, they said; and they chose the most expensive cartridge when they could have done what everyone else does and release a "patch" with the other half of the game. I don't know if they're going to make money with this port, I wish them the best.
That's not really that big in general, FFXV on PC is something like 150GB and I'd say most games are 40 or so. TW3 is about 52GB on PC so I guess that shows the extent of the texture downgrade we'll be getting here.
I don't get why everyone acts like no one will but things because they won't.
Though to be honest, I haven't enjoyed this game at all on any platform I've played it.
@BlueOcean I would certainly buy it if this was the only system. I just don’t play hand held mode with switch.
@Tasuki Normally i agree that Nintendo is greedy. However, its likely they didn't set the price as they are are not the Publisher. Also, the amount of work needed to make this work on a Switch is immense. On this ocasion, the price seems more than fair.
Even though I've completed it many times on PC, I'm still excited about playing it on Switch.
@Rayquaza2510 Output resolution has nothing to do with the file size. It's smaller because of a drop in texture quality and compressed audio.
@Hughesy if the game will run at 720p max but they provide 4k textures the Switch cannot use it is wasted space then.
Resolution itself indeed had nothing to do with file size, I meant the resolution of textures provided with the game.
@Rayquaza2510 That's not what you said though, you said "plus the switch docked goes to 720p and unlocked 540p whilst PC goes up to 4K," none of that determines the file size or texture resolution.😉
@Hughesy "Steam version is around 54gb (the GOTY one) so this is essentially half of that, like expected because they removed a lot of graphical fidelity plus the Switch version is 720p in dock and 540p in portable while the PC one goes up to native 4K." + so because the switch runs at lower resolution and the assets and textures are lower resolution and quality due to that, the game size is also smaller because of that.
In essence I should have add the stuff after the "+" in that comment, under normal circumstances I read my comment first before posting it (because I often have issues with putting what I think in words, without making a mess out of it no matter the language I use)
Seems I've missed that.
