Guitar Hero Live is coming to Wii U later this year, and will use live action video segments to put you in the action. GameSpot has published a video which not only shows how this will work, but also gives a little glimpse of the new controller peripheral that will be launching alongside the game.
While the use of video gained a few skeptical comments when the game was first announced, this clip shows how well these segments integrate into the gameplay. It remains to be seen exactly how much variety these clips offer - if you end up seeing the same video over and over, it's more likely to destroy immersion than create it.
Have a watch of the clip and let us know what you think of this forthcoming resurrection of a gaming legend.

@Spectra_Twilight you do. Just takes lots and lots and lots of practice. Is a diminishing skill too which is annoying.
While the controller looks interesting to play, and will take a nice amount of practise, the stuff on the screen just annoys me. The whole thing looks tacky, cheap and boring, from the fretboard, to the notes, to the backgrounds. It looks horrible!
It's a shame because I used to be a Guitar Hero master, and played them about 99% of each day for years. Oh well, I still have Rock Band 4, which looks incredible!
I like the new guitar but I don't like the fact you need to buy all the songs all over again. That said...I switched from xbox to PS so I can't take my RockBand songs with me...so I won't buy either GH or RB.
@Crimson_Ridley I played almost nothing except GH and RB for 3 years straight haha, it was the perfect game to play after coming home from uni.
@Crimson_Ridley
Lol, funny thing is I remember all your helpful achievement guides over at Xbox Achievements on various rhythm games so I know you were good at the game.
I particularly remember your guides for DJ Hero's Beats and Pieces 5* Expert and DJ Hero 2's Speedrail/I Will be There 400NS.
Anyway on topic, there's not really anything exciting about this game and I worry that if I try and get too good at this newer Guitar Hero, it will affect my co-ordination for when I return to play the older iterations given the difference in the fret buttons between them.
I do want to get Rock Band 4 but I don't own a Xbox One or PS4 and I have no reason to other than that.
Seriously don't ask! The only thing I'd probably play in the Xbox One catalogue is the new Gears of War games (not sure if it's a remake of the previous ones).
I like that they're trying something new, but there's no way I'm buying new controllers for basically the same experience. If they're going to bring it back, why are they shooting themselves in the foot like this? People who already have the instruments are their install base, and they're throwing that away.
Sega CD is that you? :/
It's interesting to me that we're imagining this live footage Guitar Hero being more repetitive than its animated past iterations. When all's said and done, you're not paying attention to what's going on in the background, and it's not gonna hinder the gameplay.
Looks okay I guess. It's nice to a third party game coming to the Wii U.
The 90's called. They want their FMV back.
@bezerker99 HA! Before you know it, we'll be playing Night Trap with this controller!
...Oh, wait a second, wasn't there Rock of the Dead or something like that?
Not interested, only because I like one song they announced so far
@kensredemption Ha, Night Trap Remix HD? I'd buy that for a dollar!
Since we have to get the new guitar for this game, I'm hoping it's not going to all be too terribly pricey. I wouldn't mind having this at all but I'm not made of money here.....
I'm sorry, but Rock Band all the way. Shame it's not on Wii U
I couldn't really care less about the background. I play GH for the songs and the high scores. I still play GH3 for the Wii occasionally and it looks like crap compared to the PS4 games I play, but I don't care, it's still an awesome game. I am excited for the new controller, though. GH3 is easily my favorite (not only for the sweet set list) but also because it was the first GH game that I owned, so I started on medium, worked my way to hard, and then finally to expert. I played the crap out of that game. For all of the subsequent GH games, I would go straight to expert, play the hardest songs, and then I was kinda out of new things to do. This new GH will be a completely new experience and I'm excited to have to start back at medium!
I won't be buying into this. I bought Guitar Hero 3 for Wii on release and eventually threw my plastic guitar out.
Funny that out of all the third party titles not coming to Wii U, this one is. After being milked to death, this is a series pretty much every platform could do without.
