This is not a design patent, so the layout shown in the diagram is not indicative of how any future controller will look. The patent is based around structure, and how to arrange the internal components to make a controller more compact
My C64 was running Hardball by Accolade almost four years ago, so you’d think the Switch could cope with a baseball game. Not that I expect The Show to be anywhere near as good as Hardball…
He committed a crime and got punished for it. The fact that he didn’t make as much money as others involved is more his own foolishness. The debt he owes he will never have to pay, and the custodial sentence was pushed for by the Attorney General, not by Nintendo.
Where I draw the line is having his sentence set more harshly as an example to others - the sentence should match the crime committed, and the additional deterrent part of the sentence is complete BS
I was underwhelmed. The new additions: giant ball soccer (?) and badminton didn’t look particularly fun; and the other sports I’ve played enough of in the Wii days
My favourite event, Golf, is not coming until later - and if that has more than two nine-hole courses, then I may be tempted, depending on how good the joy-con movement is
Great article, thanks guys. I’ve never played a Pokémon game, but have considered getting this for my six year old daughter - is it ok for little kids (i.e. not too complicated)? And can you play co-op?
I’d like an easy option: more durable weapons, more hearts to start with, and some indication of where to go and what to do within the game
I play about an hour a month, and would love to see all the cool stuff, but I’m basically lost with breaking weapons and frequent deaths. So I’m down to playing every six months where I give it another go and leave after an hour, frustrated
I haven’t played the video game, but Pandemic the board game is excellent!
For those that don’t know, it’s a co-op game that slowly escalates as viruses spread globally, and you work together to cure them. I played it with a group of friends on a rainy holiday, and it took us three days to finally win a game! Highly recommend!
@KateGray Zynga has over 168M monthly users, and revenue last quarter of $706M. The mobile game sector is said to be worth $100B in 2022. So Take-Two are now set-up to make mobile versions of their numerous IPs to take advantage of this massive gaming sector
Basically, mobile versions of games generate bank, and this’ll probably look like a bargain in two years’ time
Great to see Mario Kart doing well, but it’s just not a very good game. I’ve played most of the courses before, there’s no single player progression, and the rubber-banding/item drop is just ridiculous. Someone please remake Diddy Kong Racing…
I love my C64. It has so many great games. Favourites include: Bruce Lee Winter and Summer Games Anything by Andrew Braybrook Anything with music by Rob Hubbard Boulder Dash IK+ Leaderboard Commando Hardball
The game was finished ages ago, but its release has been delayed until Nintendo secures as many ridiculous patents as possible…
The original idea of patents was good and noble, but now it’s a litigious, business-stifling beast. I’m in the middle of a product design and have specific patents to work around - these existing patents are for a product that doesn’t exist and which the patent-holders will never make - but they block anyone else. So when I see patents for game mechanics, it really annoys me
Thank goodness I’m not the only one that doesn’t like BotW. It’s an impressive looking game, but the controls are too fiddly for me (seriously, every time I try to run away from danger, I crouch down; and I can’t count the number of times I’ve accidentally thrown a weapon). And if I’m finally doing great in a battle, then my weapon breaks.
I’ve tried to play BotW so many times, and each time give up in frustration
My six year old daughter hasn’t seen anything new yet. But then when you only get to play once a month for a couple of hours, I guess you miss out on a lot of things.
And I wished it wasn’t timed events, as she always misses those - the trick or treating sounded cool, but by the time you could access it, she was out actually trick or treating.
Still waiting to buy art, for KK to appear, and about a thousand other things…
@LowtekGames I assumed you’d have had a good reason for using CAPS. But at the end of the day, I think your games look really cool, I thoroughly enjoyed your interview, and I’m going to check out NESmaker!
So on the Switch, there’s one game called Super Mario Party and another called Mario Party Superstars. Um, I’ve never played a Mario Party game, but these essentially sound like the same thing. Wii and Wii U anyone?
I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of negativity in the comments. I had a quick play of a few games last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. For the extra A$30 I paid it seems like a bargain - it's the cost of two G&Ts
And I'm super-excited to soon get an N64 controller
I also played a couple of the SEGA games, and they were pretty sweet. Enjoy y'all
I’m sure NL did a write up on this game a couple of month’s ago, and the dev’s previous game was something cool … but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was?!?
I’m not even sure if I still have an NSO subscription, as I last played a couple of SNES games about six months ago. But the addition of some N64 titles is enough to pique my interest. Hopefully they add titles at a better pace, and I’m desperate to play Wave Race, 1080, plus a bunch of Rare games again - should they ever get added. Super-curious about what price they’ll charge…
I’m with ya @BloodNinja. My other pet peeve is games referred to as Rogue-like or -lite (that people love misspelling as Rouge). But if y’all want to call them Castleroids or Zelda-isms, then that’s up to you. Happy gaming
I’m getting the Playdate, but then I’m a hipster gamer. International preorders (like mine) mostly missed out on being in the first 20K as they had international shipping website issues - but I’m happy to wait until 2022. Based on news coverage, I reckon Panic have racked up way, way more than 20K orders
And I’m looking forward to coding for the thing, as free dev tools are on their way
As for a new Nintendo handheld - I’d be all over it - would love something more durable and more portable
I’ve been gaming for many years (Sportstronic in 1975!), and almost exclusively local multiplayer. Even now, I barely game unless I’ve got someone else wanting to play. So I adore games like Wii Sports and its siblings. I would love Resort (which I have not played) on Switch to play with my five-year-old daughter - at the moment our favourite game is Overcooked (All You Can Eat, with the assist mode).
I didn’t even know joystick drift was a thing until I got my Switch … and it’s as annoying as hell
But then I’m an old fogey who would prefer to game with an Atari 2600 joystick, something you grip instead of wriggle your thumbs on.
And they used to break, lots. Me and a mate used to hunt through the second-hand shops looking for Atari joysticks so we could play Sensible Soccer on the Amiga. But at least they only cost five quid
Strange the number of people who can’t see this taking off, when the poll and comments clearly show a large number of Nintendo fans are interested in getting one…
For me, I think it’s great. The OLED Switch is pure disappointment. This lets me play (via emulation) many of the games I was hoping Nintendo’s online service would already have available, but doesn’t?!? And I have a Steam library which I’ve never touched, as I don’t enjoy games on a laptop nearly as much as a handheld. This is the solution.
In terms of docking, can’t we just use the Switch dock?
I’ve never ‘played’ a visual novel, but as my button-pushing, joy-con nudging skills slowly desert me, I figure I should check ‘em out.
I already read excessively, and write novels in my spare time, so where should a self-proclaimed book nerd start in this VN genre? Any recommendations greatly appreciated…
All I want is an option to just play the battles - I found wandering around and the puzzles rather pointless; happy for them to be in the game for those that enjoyed those bits, but a one button ‘skip to next battle’ would be magic

Re: Talking Point: How Long Does Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Take To Beat, Really?
BotW beat me in about ten hours. After the hundredth weapon broke, and I had no idea where I should be going, I gave up…
I still found some parts of the game very clever, and loved the look of the world, but for me it was too frustrating

Re: Random: Logan Paul Got Scammed To The Tune Of $3.5 Million On Fake Pokémon Trading Cards

Re: Review: Astroneer - Plenty Of Genial Jank In This Addictive, Scrappy Sandbox

I’ve never played an Animal Crossing game before, but got it for my five-year-old daughter so we could play it together.
My daughter skips through all the dialogue as it’s so repetitive, and probably plays once a month, so we’ve missed every timed event.
And in this day and age, I can’t believe we can’t both have an island and visit each other’s.
I guess it’s just not the game I hoped it was
