Rumours about a popular location returning in Animal Crossing: New Horizons have resurfaced this week.
Datamining over on DodoCodes.com has highlighted code and event references that have renewed hopes of Brewster appearing in a future update. Since picked up and summarised by Animal Crossing World, "The Roost" still apparently has a chance of being added to the latest Switch entry in some way or form. News about the cafe's possible return was originally reported last year and the latest game updates (version 1.10 and 1.11) supposedly contain even more evidence about it being added to the Museum section of the game.
First of all, a camera parameter change was made to the code reference ‘IdrMuseumCafe‘ in Version 1.11. This follows additions in the previous Version 1.10 update where new camera settings for ‘IdrMuseumCafe‘ were spotted, as well as a new reference to a third type of Museum entrance known as ‘IdrMuseumEnt03‘.
Another change spotted in Version 1.10 was adjustments to the ‘MuseumLevel‘ EventFlow query that essentially made ‘space’ for a new value to be handled — one that would likely represent a new version of the Museum building, possibly with a Cafe.
Back to Version 1.11 though, more progress has been found on that ‘MuseumLevel‘ finding — a very curious ‘cNpcMemory:TalkProgressMuseumBuiltCafe‘ flag is now associated and seen in the EventFlow for building the Museum. Of course, this isn’t actually used in any way.
While the code does seem to contain a lot of references to a "Museum Cafe" - as usual, there are no guarantees associated with datamines like this one. In saying this, it's led to a lot of excitement about what Nintendo might have planned for the game in the future.
Alongside the latest update earlier this week, Nintendo also said it had more content in development for New Horizons. Could a museum cafe run by Brewster be it? Leave your thoughts down below.

Reading this article while having my morning coffee. It MUST be true!
...Right? ^^;
I really hope so! Maybe K.K. will decide to perform in the Museum Cafe as well, like old times. ^_^
I'm on the side of players that are critical about this game for a variety of well-known reasons... overall I've been incredibly disappointed with the state of the game as a whole compared to its predecessors, and I've also agreed with the other great points that have been mentioned under some of the other articles.
However, this is exactly the direction the game needs to head to nowadays (finally?) to bring back some general hype and interest within the player-base for at least for a few more hours of gameplay, when playing with others.
Frankly, I think the game got stale quick for a lot of players... and I love this series deeply, so it truly hurts to say.
Edit: a common word to describe New Horizons is "shallow". I would agree. Things were stripped from the series, like effort put into the tons of unique, widely-appreciated NPC dialogue and other beloved features, in exchange for more improved item customization, decorating (especially with a focus for the outside), etc.
@PigDan20,
Big fan of the series too, and while Brewster would be a nice addition, not sure it would make or break the game for me, New Horizons as the same core elements as before, but with new content like the island designer etc, personally love it and have played over 1300 hours, and still play a little each day.
Not sure how many people do not like this latest entry, guess that will always be more subjective opinion than anything else.
@PigDan20 Agreed. Haven't felt any desire to touch New Horizons since like... June 2020. It's really sad, because I was beyond hyped for this game. The game is shallow, that is true, but it also feels like it's missing a lot of charm older entries had. Perhaps I'm just nostalgic for New Leaf, as that game defined my childhood.
Don’t do that, don’t give me hope.
Cool, it’s about 498 days too late though
Honestly, I’d be hyped, but I just.. feel like this is too little too late.
Sheen, this is the 8th time this week you have shown off a Brewster NH leak!
@Dizzymario,
Better late than never.
@Tristan_Misten well they did remove a ton of dialogue and characters that were in new leaf and replaced them with lifeless alternatives, like changing the post office into a post card stand that had 0 benefits over the post office
Honestly what sort of big new gameplay mechanic would this bring?
Surely it would be a cool supply gathering/cost event with a 2-3 day wait for construction.
Then what? Just a stale cafe with nothing new to do after a couple visits?
This game needs to be revolutionized to be viable again.
Thanks to Covid lots of people are done with all main tasks.
We're getting new items tomorrow night 🙂
Everytime that I play an AC game, I play until I pretty much complete all my town building goals. From that point on, I either return every now and then to scratch the itch or start a new town and do it all over again. I never play consistently over a year or two.
While I'd argue that ACNH is pretty darn different from the other games, I played it the same as all of the others in this respect.
Adding a cafe won't "bring the game back to life" for me in any major way, but I would very much enjoy checking it out! After all, my favorite game in the series is WW
On a related note, do people expect this game to get an overhaul of mechanics? Since it launched I figured it would pretty much stay that way with a couple of updated events/items/whatever. When they added things back like Redd and diving, I was surprised. To me, those added mechanics are the outlier, not the expectation.
Is there a specific reason that (it sounds like) people are expecting Nintendo to amend things so drastically that it rekindles interest in a major way? Genuinely curious.
This would be welcome or........ paid DLC including an island for everyone to meet online to chat, make new online friends, sort out global problems, trade items, play games such as bowling, fishing tournaments (no shadows, just pure random fishing) on one big lake, bug hunts, pool, darts (in an over 18s bar and games to cater for a younger audience in an under 18s room), chess, jet ski races around the island, a casino like four kings.... the list could go on. Nintendo, you have my money in advance if you can come up with this!!! IMO this game is crying out for a huge update on this scale, so think about it and yes if it means paying a sensible amount for it, then I'm in!!
Please please please please please 🙏🙏🙏
I miss their coffee
Woohoo, we almost have all of the New Leaf stuff after only a year
Mmm-Hmm. Didn't some say that last year?
@Aerona its pretty sad that this has happened.
@ERIC_MACK because they removed so much stuff from new leaf to new horizons people figured that’s what the free updates were for
@ERIC_MACK from my understanding, I think it’s the lack of new meaningful content (new characters, more robust events and villager interaction, activities to do with people, more stuff to collect, etc.) and features from older titles that didn’t make it into NH, is what people are hoping for. I like NH for what it is and these additions would be great to have and experience.
I feel like there’s a lot of little things from the older games that are missing from New Horizons. I need something like Brewster to get me back into it. Really hoping the updates are still coming.
@shining_nexus.
I posted this on the other comment section, it basically the core actions in pretty much every Animal crossing game, and if it was not for the new design/terra forming mechanics, I doubt I would have been as interested in this new game, I mean I don't mind these things, but I would have probably had stopped playing after 500 hours or so, like I did with New Leaf.
On New Horizons you still collect things to sell or donate, you do this by fishing,bug catching or swimming, you collect pieces of Art for the museum, you dig up fossils, again to sell or donate, weed pick up tree branches and collect wood, you plant flowers and water them, create hybrids and colors by cross breeding them, plant trees, normal and fruit ones and money trees, you tend to them just like the flowers by watering them, hit rocks to get raw materials and money, shake trees for money, wood, furniture and of course bees, which will give you the honeycomb to make medicine, collect shells on the beach again either for money or to craft with, dig up clams to help your fishing exploits, shoot balloons for either clothes, furniture items or money, wish on shooting stars to get star fragments to make special zodiac items, sell or decorate with. And of course speak to your villagers, which as I said has the most varied dialogue of any game in the series, as long as you get past the initial repeat exchange, I tend to speak to them three or four times, as I said the more you put into this the more you will get out of it, your villagers will get sick and need medicine, ask you to perform certain tasks for them, usually catching a fish or bug, but will sometimes ask for an item in your inventory to swap, they will ask you to participate on a treasure hunt, ask you to resolve a falling out they have had with another villager, or ask you to deliver a parcel for them, be upset from time to time and ask to leave, which this time thankfully is under your control, sometimes teo villagers will be talking and you can listen in, or get the end of it where one of them storms off, bu on the whole could not be more impressed by all this, oh and they send you letters with gifts pretty much every day and give you DIY items, along with random gifts, usually after shouting to you and getting your attention, you also have to return lost items to them, collect wallpaper and flooring just as before, to decorate your house, buy these from the store or Sahara for those exotic ones, send letters to your villagers, buy and sell turnips on the dreaded stalk market, the Abel sisters shop lets you design custom clothing just as before, and the design portal and inventory slots have been increased, that have now added the feature as an app on your Nook phone, so you are now not limited to the shop opening times.
So why some still state this is not the case, or you have nothing to do, is simply not true.
@Waluigi451,
I remember Brewster being a pretty mundane experience to be honest, I know KK performed a gig on Saturdays, however he now performs in the town hall square, however it would be nice to get him and the observatory back in the museum.
My island is much better without the stench of coffee. I have no need of the fetid, sulfurous farts of Satan.
I'm pretty sure there have been hints for him returning since the very first datamines. Given that and the greatly diminished content of the patches from this year, I don't really have much hope at this point.
I would be happy to see Brewster return, but I want the café to be its own separate building, rather than part of the museum.
I just want a big enough update to give me reason to play more of this game. There's plenty of things that they could do.
And I absolutely would buy a big dlc for this game.
Nintendo what are you waiting to add higly requested character such as Brewster/Kapp'n, feature such as Cooking mechanics with the depth of the Crafting system and QOL improvements such as Bulk Crafting or a shopping cart option to Able/Nook Cranny?
Good points here. I'm glad some players have enjoyed their experience with NH for many hours, but still, I'm always far more on the same wavelength as the ones that, after not much gameplay put in comparatively to the regulars, have only been able to focus on recognizing what we've actually lost as the apparent sacrifice for what is legit better about the series. There ideally should've been no sacrifices with the best elements of the series in the first place — the multiple aspects of the games that already worked so well in New Leaf and before then!
I theorize that there was a troubled development & it's probably likely that the devs decided to cut corners just to get a major first-party release out there ASAP (without dealing with any more delays), instead of adding important extra features and polish (ex. the bafflingly boring & repetitive NPC dialogue that you start to realize exists in the really bad state it's in after a while of gameplay) & quality of life improvements where it desperately needed it. And that's just without mentioning the extra social aspects of the series that were cut out.
We still need those important QOL improvements (some of which I would think to be so simple to implement shortly after launch), and with some of them, I'm honestly extremely surprised some never came out via game patches by now.
I don't know what the devs are thinking at all, and I don't think anyone does, albeit they're probably very curious! They excelled strongly in some areas, but even after less than a few months, it was clear to many that they really let some fans down in many ways. I think the NH version of AC game design is flawed, because this game series is very special in the way where it's naturally supposed to draw more people to check in and play it regularly, yet it's just not compelling enough for many long-term. When players that historically love AC end up skipping playing for months at a time, you should know as a dev working on an AC game that it has some legit big flaws compared to something like New Leaf (which I would guess probably had a longer attach rate, and that major DLC update to come out a good while out of nowhere after launch probably helped things too).
I just wish I could have more fun with it, as I want the best for the series.
@johnvboy ok but 99% of this is in new leaf and the 1% that’s missing is replaced with way more stuff like the time capsules. The requests are also more consistently asked in new leaf whereas in new horizons you need to be at a high friendship level to even get requests. People complain that stuffs missing compared to new leaf and in combination with the friendship levels locking you out of doing things with certain villagers makes the game feel lacking in content compared to its predecessor
@PigDan20,
Just wish you and others could get the same out of this new game, as you are clearly fans of the series.
Also let me clarify this and state that New Horizons obviously DOES make great improvements to the AC formula that should always be part of the series' standard from now on.
I agree that removing buildings/areas that were very charming, well-loved and had specific gameplay purposes was a really unfortunate choice on the devs' part, and I think it was the wrong move in some instances to replace them with a phone widget or minor and much less stimulating and interesting interactive elements in a building.
I think the main reason why the "shallow" adjective applies to NH so accurately to many players is because the social immersion aspect that's been so praised with AC is arguably substantially weaker here, like it's already been said. Y'all know how freakin' important the written language is in Animal Crossing (and how important the initial localization was for the widely-released main standard English version and how that contributed to the game's special experiences. Let us remember how truly varied the personalities of the NPCs were again, with the earlier games, by the way!). I feel like the game needs to have a LOT of unique, entertaining dialogue to be a successful AC game. It's text-heavy at times, and when you have too much repetition (similar conversations every single time, bland responses, limited activities to do with villagers, all villagers in their personality type group are the same, etc.) it really affects the final product I feel.
@Dizzymario,
My point was that some claim there is nothing to do in the new game but decorate, which is not true the core mechanics, and things you do on a day to day basis are still there.
Agree there is content missing from previous games, this is an objective fact, the article is pointing out one such feature, where I have an issue is to the value of the missing items, as it's subjective value at best.
As for villager interaction I can only quote from my own personal experience with the game, in New leaf the dialogue became stale after around 200 hours or so, pretty sure New Horizons has had some sort of patch, because after 1300 hours my villagers say new things, you jut have to get beyond the initial repeated phrase, I also like the fact I am in control of weather or not they leave.
But I do get your points and only wish you could get the same enjoyment as I have.
@PigDan20,
You really have to talk to your villagers a lot, I will speak to them three to four times on every exchange, trust me you do get some awesome phrases from them, one of my favorite villagers is Bones, he says some pretty random stuff at times, one thing that is tough with this is the way the game tries to put you off, if you have just spoken to a villager and walk away, then return and start a conversation again, they will say "How many times are we going to bump into each other today", you just have to ignore this and keep on talking to them.
I have played every game in the series and do not recall any games villagers having this much varied dialogue.
@johnvboy
I truly believe that with serious extra development time with NH right now, the devs could improve some things considerably and make the experience much more enjoyable long-term for those that have issues with it.
Like some have said, I would also even pay money for DLC to get access to new substantial content too, because I do recognize that they did work hard for a long time, I just think the full potential of what this game can be hasn't been reached yet. I mean, at launch it didn't even have some of the extra additions ready that came a few months after launch (when it would've been there at launch if it was released in the past, without all that modern reliance on creating a full experience only via downloadable game patches months or years after the initial release).
Let us not forget the major sales records that New Horizons has broken already! It would definitely be extremely wise and in their best interest for Nintendo to focus a big enough part of their development teams on creating new, big updates for NH. If they are truly doing what they said they would do with the whole "supporting the game after launch for a certain amount of time" type of statement, then I guess we might still be able to expect at least something interesting in the future.
@PigDan20,
Agree with you some new DLC even paid for would be welcome, perhaps a shopping island you could visit.
Now I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I really like the terra forming and island design elements, and there is no way I would have got to around 1300 hours without them, I am not as talented as some of those awesome Youtube players, but overall I am pretty happy.
Dream Address DA-0957-2799-1843
@PigDan20,
I think they would be crazy not to add some paid for DLC, considering the 30 million or so players out there.
Oh btw, one big point I saw mentioned online that reminds me, that's actually a very major part of the NH experience, is how barren the stores are with their selection of new and interesting purchasable items. There's not enough items (items of any kind) for sale even after just a little while of ganeplay! This must be a problem for everyone, really. It wasn't long before every single thing sold in every store were things I've already seen countless times or purchased once long ago, and the selection was always limited.
That issue alone would probably require hundreds of new items added to the game to remedy, and I doubt by now that's even possible... and would be a lot of work.
@johnvboy
Yo, yeeees, the shopping island idea alone was something I actually do really want, that's one of the first ideas I got around to thinking of too (probably is a common request). I actually want a bigger version of the City from AC: City Folk sooo badly, I would assume many would think that would be SICK (that was cool but pretty limited & small if I remember correctly.. but the idea just by itself is fantastic), and being able to visit it with friends to get new items, do more mini games expanding upon the ones in New Leaf, etc... those kinds of additions would all be a huge bonus for NH.
Can we have an island (could be that shopping island idea, or just any island) in NH that's like at least twice the size of any player island by now? I want to visit that.
So many of us just want to be surprised by something new and have that special, charming experience AC is so beloved for be revitalized within, possibly with some cool exploration elements with bigger, more complex, visually interesting & additionally interactive islands added onto what we already have. I am a fan of the mini-game modes and there's so much freakin' potential there for fun solo and multiplayer experiences. People talk about how you have to make your own game with the AC series... we need more interactive games WITHIN New Horizons itself.
So there's much they can do, and I can say, like many others, for a fact: I would always be there for it to support it and show it my love, if they manage to achieve something else cool with this game. Again, there's content players like, but I can imagine so much more that EVERYONE would try and at least have fun with.
@shining_nexus @Dizzymario I know that people are expecting stuff from the old games, but I'm surprised that they are expecting things at all.
If I remember correctly, Nintendo said early on that there would be some on going updates, but knowing Nintendo, I didn't expect any of these to really be substantial. The updates that we've gotten have surpassed my expectations of what we would get!
Did Nintendo announce somewhere/heavily imply that they would be bringing MAJOR updates or did people just kinda start assuming that? Granted, if someone did assume that, their assumptions would've been justified after the Redd and diving updates.
@PigDan20,
Which is why we have the shopping app on the Nook phone, so basically any item that has been in your possession, so you could visit my island and I give you new items, then you give them right back or keep them, you can now order them at anytime, as long as you do not order more than 5 a day.
@PigDan20,
It would be awesome if you could still decorate these Islands as well, perhaps a vacation island too.
@ERIC_MACK
It might be difficult to know for sure. I know that the current fan-base of AC has developed into something so massive that fans have a LOT of expectations of what they wanted to see in the next mainline AC game. The investment that so many players have in this series is incredible, and it's unlike even some of the best Nintendo games overall, so no wonder people try to keep themselves hyped over time and trying to have some fun by expecting all the best updates that their mind can think of.
However, I don't know if the expected complexity and size of the game update contents were ever explicitly stated by Nintendo.
I think some people take the precedence of a company's prior actions with a certain game and look over what they they added in previous games, and then up mainly assuming that "naturally, this new game will be the best one ever, with all the content of the last games and more!" (ex. Something like Smash Bros. Ultimate).
I think the additions of some unexpected gameplay features (although I would argue they're basic and minor at the end of the day) that released after launch has reinforced this type of thinking and type of expectations from the fans.
People sometimes only look at the patterns of the past, and that just reinforces their existing expectations. Sometimes that's helpful with realistic and accurate predictions, sometimes it doesn't actually mean anything at all.
@johnvboy
Yep, decorating them would be really cool too.
Yeah, like I said, at the end of the day I think what a lot of people really want to see added to NH is one or more bigger, captivating, and varied island(s) to visit and explore, especially with others (remember that you can't even do that with Mystery Tours, correct? I was disappointed with that personally).
@PigDan20,
I do think they could of done more with those random islands you visit with Nook miles tickets, although I am pretty sure they are there when you have multiple players on one island, as how else would you have enough materials, still they could have jazzed them up a bit.
@PigDan20,
I do like visiting the more complex islands using the dream suite, some really awesome places to see, what some have done is mind boggling.
@johnvboy
Yes, your shopping comment is correct, but I still think the actual "shopping within the building" experience needs to be improved, not just with the additional shop upgrade options that people talk about wanting a lot online, but with a more varied selection of new purchasable items being added to the game overall (including more to be bought via the Nook Phone).
@PigDan20,
Totally agree, the four shop upgrades in New Leaf while pleasing on the eye, did not really offer all that much in terms of items etc, you got Gracie and her exotic furniture, but to be honest much prefer the more normal looking stuff, which is pretty much available in the DIY crafted items, in New Horizons.
Would love the shopping island to contain a super or even hypermarket.
@johnvboy
Yep, they added the Dream Suite a few months after launch and I'm glad they did. It has its limitations of course, but it's a good feature that I'm sure many have enjoyed!
The big lest thing missing for me is the social aspect. If anything I was wanting that to be way more expansive in the new title not worse. 🤦🏻♂️
@johnvboy
LMAO, we need that hypermarket island to come onto our Switch consoles ASAP! I can only imagine the sheer possiblities of it.
With the shared excitement and love that we will always hold onto with this beloved series, even despite fan's different perspectives on the current state of this latest game, we'll still have those mutual feelings of admiration as a fan to hold onto and keep us thinking of what could be fun to play in AC in the future.
@FatWormBlowsASparky,
I quite like the social aspect on New Horizons, once you become best friends with someone it's pretty easy, and the online app woks well with this too, I just like to catch up with people either on their or my island.
@FatWormBlowsASparky
Yep, I agree. I commented on the same thing above. We just have our own expectations for what needs to be there for the best engaging experience, and that's okay. Unfortunately, I still feel like for a $60 first-party game straight from Nintendo, I personally expected a substantially better gameplay experience as a whole than what we got or have right now still after several updates. I'm also largely talking about the many QOL changes that have been needed to be implemented in the game, some of them make doing certain activities an unnecessarily boring chore (could be easily fixed, again).
@PigDan20,
Without a doubt, and everybody on here loves the series, which is why we are all so passionate about it, and we are all pretty much core gamers with a love for Nintendo.
But of course we have to realize that the Switch has reached a much wider demographic, and now is in the lofty Mario Kart 8 sales arena, so it's not just a case of catering for just one set of people anymore.
@PigDan20 very well put, thanks for the response! That's along the lines of what I thought has been going on as well.
@johnvboy It is odd that the game series I always had to explain to others as a kid is now so widely played by so many people.
I think that adds to ACNH feeling so different from the rest of the games in the series for me.
@PigDan20,
But would it be Animal crossing without the grinding, take crafting as an example, it would be easy for Nintendo to let you craft twenty chairs at a time, but does that fit with the real world time elements for example, I mean when I made a Pizza store on my island I felt a real sense of achievement, crafting everything and customizing it individually.
It's also odd to think about why Nintendo even thought they had to sacrifice some aspects of previous games when introducing great new major things to the AC series like island terraforming, outdoor decorating, and crafting.
@ERIC_MACK,
Yes the game has come a long way since wild world, and even though New Leaf sold 12 million copies, it's New Horizons that has put this game in the spot light.
@PigDan20,
I think they feel people on the whole would be far more happy creating their own personal spaces, that can be endlessly changed as the mood takes them, but yes some new mechanics would have been nice.
I love the crafting elements, and for some reason really love those little yellow custom kits, also love getting new D.I.Y recipes, which is getting far more rare as I fill my inventory, been looking for a log bed for ages and got the D.I.Y card from a balloon this morning, was so hyped.
@johnvboy
Yeah, that's a difficult yet interesting game design situation to tackle. When does a player action stop being satisfying and rewarding because it's too quick and easy to do an activity, but on the other hand, when it does it also start to become too (increasingly) frustrating and needlessly monotonous to do a simple activity? I think the balance needs to be adjusted considerably, personally, and that was a TOP complaint since the game's release.
Really, the devs should start with finally implementing quicker auto inventory management with sorting by the type of item, for example, in our character's pockets. Give us more slots please, even if it's just a few more rows.
@PigDan20,
Yes carrying more items in your pockets would always be welcome, as you say just a few more rows.
@johnvboy
I love the addition of the new crafting element to the series too, it's a natural progression that works really well.
@johnvboy
Yep, it's long overdue to be added here. Also, like I said, it would be a HUGE help to have organizing options in your inventory, including a vital auto "organize by item type" option.
@PigDan20,
My friend code is SW-8223-9981-3607
We could swat some items etc.
@PigDan20,
Agree on both counts, another Idea is to be able to use the Island rescue service to bring you some items from your home inventory, as sometimes being on the other side of the island then forgetting something is a chore.
Also, I don't feel like that addition would detract from any satisfaction one would get from organizing their own inventory, and it would be a toggleable on-off option for auto-sort by item type.
That would be a HUGE help when trying to decorate outdoors for me personally and for many others.
@PigDan20,
Not sure how they could implement this, but having the same design tools outside as in your home would be nice, it would make arranging furniture outside much easier.
@johnvboy
I'll be starting to stream on Twitch myself soon, after a lot of hard work and time spent getting it set up behind-the-scenes, so I'll see what I can do to go online soon if that's okay... that would be cool!
Despite the previously listed issues that I have with the game, I do have a lot of things still on my list of things to collect (that's really one of the main things to even aim for in NH, for the most part).
Perhaps we can also grab together a group of other AC players online soon. Been a long time since I played regularly.
@PigDan20,
Or simply not having every item represented by a leaf, at least if you personally customize things it's a yellow leaf
@PigDan20,
No problems, let me know if you need anything.
@ERIC_MACK it’s assumed. I wasn’t really expecting any major updates either. Truth is, I feel current NH is a complete game already. It seems like the devs wanted to focus on one idea with this iteration and give it the usual AC fundamentals and mechanics to make it feel like AC. That one idea of course is terraforming, decorating and customizations. NH is kinda like a combination of both Happy Home Designer and regular AC, which I’m personally onboard with.
@PigDan20
Accepted your request, next step to become best friends on the game then it's a lot easier.
One of the main things I like about the creation aspect of NH is the custom pattern features (even with its limitations and the limit of slots you can use). I've used that awesome QR code pattern maker website briefly so far to make a little bit of custom designs with my pets as a design pasted on canvas, hanging right up on the walls of my house! That's one thing that's really cool to show others once you put a lot of effort into creating it from the ground up.
I'm glad to meet you and others here, and I'm always open to it! Definitely super eager to find more people to play some of these games with online, and chat about Nintendo stuff with. I'm being more active in the comment sections of these video game forums now, but usually I just frequent as a lurking reader of the gaming news.
@johnvboy I agree. I’m overwhelmed sometimes and lose track of what I’m doing everytime. There’s distractions everywhere and my villagers do the cutest things and have some very funny conversations with each other. Having Brewster along will hopefully bring some more fun interactions.
@PigDan20,
Love the custom patterns, even more after the update where they added more design slots, and made the design online portal accessible from the Nook phone, so no more being limited by the Abel sisters opening times.
@shining_nexus
Yeah, and I think the main criticism lies in that people think that the devs should of done a better job focusing on all aspects, despite the fact they did a very good job implementing the new major features.
@PigDan20,
I rarely go online, but made an exception with this game, glad I did though, met some great people, and even caught up with a guy from the old Amazon gaming forum.
@johnvboy
True! So they do actually think of QOL improvements sometimes. Now we just need to see some more, please, Nintendo!
@shining_nexus,
Once I had pretty much finished my island, if you ever really finish it that is, I have had much more time to wander around at my own pace, speaking to the villagers etc, without the pressure of a part of the island not being decorated etc.
@johnvboy
Me either, but I'm personally trying to go online more often, and I will do that a lot more frequently finally & actually try to meet other gamers once I stream and go live.
@PigDan20,
Fingers and toes crossed for you.
@johnvboy
Regarding the same design tools outdoors comment, YES. I want the full 360°-ish camera too, but I don't think the game's outdoor engine is designed for it at all. It got modded and it was weird.
@PigDan20,
Do it at your own pace, but one tip if you have not already got it, download the Nintendo online app to your phone, as messaging is a nightmare in this game without it, even more if you play the game in docked mode.
@PigDan20,
I do not think it is, but at least the angles can be changed, that was on issue I had with New Leaf.
@johnvboy
Yep, I do have it installed. But Discord text chat will always be the superior option out there for that purpose as we all know, unless you want the text to appear in-game.
The USB keyboard support for NH really needs a set button on the keyboard that opens up the text chatting option, if it doesn't already. You have to touch a button on the controller if I recall correctly, then move your hands back to the keyboard.
Anyways, to summarize what I think many are thinking right now: we really want this update's release to become a reality and to come out ASAP. I need some coffee.
@PigDan20,
Without a doubt, and am pretty sure they will be planning something.
The list of things that datamines have "suggested" for this game alone are as long as my arm. And how many of them actually become reality?
Yeah, and that's why until I hear an official announcement I consider them to be a complete waste of time.
@ERIC_MACK It's nice to see someone else appreciating the game for what it is and not getting upset over unfulfilled expectations. I'm not saying it's wrong to expect things and ultimately get disappointed when it doesn't come to pass, but all this moaning and hating on is toxic.
I played the original Gamecube and now this, so my experience of AC is very different to most others and I'm well pleased with this entry. It may even be another 15 years before I pick up the next entry in the series, assuming it's still around for that.
@LavaTwilight I don’t think it’s toxic to expect the game to have the same amount of content as past games, especially for the price point.
@PigDan20
Something about ACNH island size.
Animal Crossing in full 360' camera angle needs more bigger island size.
I have measured the ACNH island was about 110 x 110 squares (only island not included the beach area).
I have tested the experience to see 110 x 110 squares island from other game Portal Knights with small island size 128 x 128 squares since it has Full 360' camera angle and 1st person + 3rd person view. To see a 110 x 110 squares island was surprisingly looked very small. I could even see the edge of the island.
The 256 x 256 squares island in Portal Knights (Large size island) looked better (island are = 4 times bigger). If compared with Dragon Quest Builders 2 island size, it was way too big for Animal Crossing.
Oh, yeah. You can add me Switch FC if you want to play ACNH Online.
Currently i rarely to play ACNH after spent 620+ hours to beautify my island but if you want to visit my island, please let me know if you are ready to play ACNH Online.
@shining_nexus well said!
@LavaTwilight Wow, that must be interesting to make such a jump in the series! I'm glad to hear that you enjoy this new take on it!
The way I see it, we always have the old games to go back to and by changing it each time, we get something new. I suppose the frustration can come in when people feel like it betrays core mechanics/themes of older games.
Despite any of that though, I really did have a great time with NH. It didn't represent what I love about the AC series, but it was a new experience, one that I relate to being much more social and focused on expressing myself through the town I build.
@VoidofLight
Yep, I mentioned that as well! Price is a big motivator to expect certain things as it can help determine the game's true value to the player.
@Anti-Matter
Wow! That's very interesting, and ok, I'll definitely be around online more often nowadays. If you know any other people around the NintendoLife site or playing on Switch who play any games that we all have in common, feel free to let me know! I'll add my Switch library collection details onto my profile page soon just for that purpose so I can share it with others.
@OrangeSoda what…? I can’t tell if you’re joking, this is about animal crossing right?
I miss Brewster loads. Hope they add him back in to the series!
Should have been in the game on day one.
Too little too late for me, but I hope it gets enjoyed by others.
I haven't booted up my island for almost a year !
Nintendo has let ACNH and the AC fans down
I'm a patient person and there's plenty of games to play, AC is ideal as a casual thing to visit once in a while, it being a full time obsession was kinda its downfall this time around. I've been content with the decelerating update cycle, I was never upset with the amount of content they launched with, but the ONE thing that kept disappointing me was every new event added followed the exact same formula, a special NPC shows up, you do a pointless activity in the town square, gather special collectables that show up to craft limited items. So my one fear would be that The Roost would get reduced to a similar template, a limited time booth propped up in the civic center and that's it, but am very very relieved to see this data, basically confirming it will eventually be a a permanent establishment within the museum.
Animal Crossing should have taken the approach that Fortnite took as far as seasons and content. Maybe do timed Nintendo content. A lot of the comments are complaining about the lack of stuff to do which happens in every Animal Crossing. Adding Brewster only revives the game for a little while.
The next Animal Crossing might want to add more mini games to play with friends, and bigger island to create exploration. Maybe they can have landform that are interactive like a cave you could explore.
Another thing they might want to work on is the npc AI.
Maybe I'll return to New Horizons if thats the case.
@MasterGraveheart
Lol! I saw a Brewster plush at target today (but I don’t have money to get it) and I instantly remembered the article. But they also had New Horizons Tom Nook and Isabel so It must be true
@Fantasia
Same
they did such an awful job at this games post-release content. the first year was understandable enough with the game feeling fresh enough, but this year has been nothing but item reskins. i dunno what they expected but they apparently rode the wave of AC hype and everyone quarantining to keep us busy, and any big updates they still have for this game are too-little-too-late for lots of people
I would come running back to the game if this were the case. I loved my time with it but got completely burnt out early on this year, it feels really sparse in comparison to previous titles and that soured me on it.
Like many here, I would return if I could hear that awesome brewster theme again
I’ve never played an Animal Crossing game before, but got it for my five-year-old daughter so we could play it together.
My daughter skips through all the dialogue as it’s so repetitive, and probably plays once a month, so we’ve missed every timed event.
And in this day and age, I can’t believe we can’t both have an island and visit each other’s.
I guess it’s just not the game I hoped it was
