After its Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch proved to be a bit of a must-have festive gift, Nintendo is hoping to hit the mark again when it releases Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda to celebrate the IP's anniversary. Now Nintendo has released a snazzy new trailer to showcase its charms ahead of the 12th November release.
Announced during E3 in the Summer, the Zelda Game & Watch features The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and a special version of the Game & Watch title Vermin, which features Link as the playable character. There's also a special clock mode, and as you can see in the trailer it's playable.
The fact pre-orders can still be found online probably explains why Nintendo has made this trailer - it's clearly not flown off the virtual shelves to become a scalper's dream, as yet.

Already pre-ordered mine months ago Can't wait!
Are these waterproof? Imagine playing this in the shower
@SamirMalik test it and let us know.
@SamirMalik Game & Wash
The scalpers aren't going to bother with this one. The Mario Bros Game & Watch is still readily available - I wish I hadn't pre-ordered that one, there were some hefty price drops later on.
I am half-expecting these to be delayed here in Europe like the Metroid Dread Amiibos were.
@MS7000 Please don't say that
I still wish they'd fix the aspect ratio of Link's Awakening though.
@ThomasBW84 Sorry for bringing down the mood. I just half-expect it at the moment given current trends with games in Europe at the moment. Hopefully I am wrong. =)
I own each game at least twice. It might have been worth it if we had the Zelda game and watch on here. Going to wait for heavy discount.
@ThomasBW84
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Eh, why not? I wasn't interested in the Mario one, but... Three whole Zelda games? Sure. I don't see why not Link's Awakening DX, but whatever.
I only played with the Mario G&W games for a bit, but the clock has made it a perfect addition to my work desk. Looking forward to adding the Zelda too. If they really pushed the clock feature and sold these with a little stand they would probably move much faster.
Give it 2 months and it’ll be £25 like the Mario one.
I enjoy the novelty and clock features of the Super Mario Bros. version, but I especially like it as a desk toy. Thing is, the original NES Zelda is my favorite, so it just felt wrong not to have it. Plus, the features are better in this one.
It's not for long play sessions, and I would have liked to try out the original Zelda game & watch, but it is just at the highest price I'd consider paying for what I'll get out of it.
Preordered early on and I'm just waiting. I'm sure Nintendo would rather have them sell out fast, but I'm glad those who want one will get a chance.
Why, oh why, oh why did they not include the bloody DX version of Link's Awakening?!
I'm all for including BOTH versions, but either/or?! It's a 1MB ROM for crying out loud (if that).
I was similarly disappointed with the Super Mario Bros. edition excluding the GB games. What a waste of otherwise good tech with a nice screen and battery life. The lack of the 1988 Super Mario Bros. G&W game was also a huge disappointment.
@Silly_G less than half that size, lol
Although being the grand old age of 37 ive never actually played the origional 2 Zelda titles despite being a series fan. I think i will grab this one.
(EDIT) im actually 38. Forgot my own age 😬😬
@Bret : All the more reason why its exclusion is so, so ridiculous. Considering that the device is AU$80 and is loaded with bells and whistles under the hood, I would prefer to be able to use the device for something beyond mere NES ROMs. Link's Awakening is a step in the right direction of course, but not include the DX version as well? Hell, throw in the Oracle games while they're at it. Now that would fly off shelves.
I nevertheless intend to play through the original Link's Awakening, but I wish Nintendo had included more reasons for us to actually use these things.
Not including the DX version was probably because the original Link’s Awakening makes for a “cleaner” package. No worrying about error handling and such for the missing Gameboy printer connectivity.
Yes, I will be getting this. Does it need more yep. Link’s Awakening ❤️
@ChromaticDracula : But they already disabled that functionality in the 3DS emulation, and it stands to reason that the same could have been implemented here.
@King-K-Rool
Yep, i am getting one maybe when the price is right.
Mario is a Game you can pick up and play really nicely.
But Zelda? Mhh not so much.
@Silly_G I think I'll try to finally complete Zelda II.
I had a Game & Watch Vermin back in the day … it’s terrible
@westman98 Nooooooooooooooooooo
Day 1. Looks lovely
The fact that Nintendo stretched (!) the aspect ratio of Link's Awakening is heartbreaking. I hope that there is an option to turn the 4:3 off (but there's probably not). Bummer.
Looking forward to getting this. Link's Awakening is definitely in my top 3 or 4 favourite Zelda games.
If it actually becomes available in Argentina — a pretty big if --, then I might nab it.
I played the first Zelda and Link's Awakening Switch last year and absolutely loved them. Wouldn't mind buying this for the vibes and to (legally) play the original Link's Awakening. (Liked the new graphics in the Switch version, but the GB aesthetic has its own charm.)
I preordered mine months ago, mostly so I can have it to go with the Mario one, but also because I’d like to play Link’s Awakening on it for the first time. I think that’d be fun.
@Silly_G you do make a good point but I think just eliminating that whole error: “hey this used to be here but now it’s not” thing is just a cleaner presentation. Less questions for any new generations playing this or picking it up for the first time ever. Maybe some young kids will be getting this a stocking stuffer from their die-hard Nintendo fan parents or relative and just eliminates those questions. “Hey ma! My game won’t work when I talk to this mouse photographer!”
I’m just trying to think of any reason why it wouldn’t have been included, even as an option to play either version. It would’ve been nice for sure but I am also liking that original’s nostalgia too.
@Silly_G yes, I agree with you. Love my G&W SMB, but should have been a lot better with SML, SML 2, SMB 2, SMB 3 and a few Mario G&W titles (Cement Factory and SMB come to mind, and they didn't even use the SMB Ball game). It could have been a real collector's item.
G&W Zelda is improved but still not perfect (no Link's Awakening DX and no Zelda G&W, which has already been emulated for G&W Gallery 4. I honestly didn't expect the Oracle games to be here).
Honestly surprised the Link's Awakening DX isn't being used here instead or at the very least included. Though I'm sure they could have easily added a mode switch for that.
Preordered months ago
Haven't pre-ordered it yet, but for some reason, here in Mexico the launch price of the Zelda G&W seems to be slightly cheaper than the launch price of the Mario one. I'm just hoping this is as available as the Mario one, but this being Zelda it might not be, at least not in my area.
Why would I want to carry that around when I have a phone that's with me already..
Love that Nintendo continues these Game & Watch homages as anniversary product content. I don’t think anyone would appreciate this item though if they did not grow up in that era....so maybe that’s why the expected love for the first one was lower than forecasted.
@Karaya92 It’s Nintendo so yes, it would have literally killed them.
Now we need one for Metroid, Castlevania, Kid Icarus, and Kirby!
Metroid could have Metroid, Metroid II: Return of Samus, and for the G&W game it could be a reskinned Octopus!
Castlevania could have Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, for the G&W game it could be a reskinned Judge!
For Kid Icarus it could be Kid Icarus, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, and for the G&W game it could be a reskinned Balloon Fight!
For Kirby it could be Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure, and Kirby's Dream Land 2, for the G&W game they could do a reskinned helmet!
Nintendo could also make a Final Fantasy G&W but I think that has less of a chance then the Kid Icarus one.
I think kirby has the highest chance of becoming real, then Metroid, then Castlevania, then Kid Icarus, and then Final Fantasy, which I think has so low of a chance that I didn't even bother coming up with an idea for the games it would have.
I have a gift card to Wal-Mart. Wondering if I should get a Mario G&W (they have a few left) or preorder this one.
Originally wanted Teris Effect for Switch while it's on sale, but I can't use a gift card to buy an eShop card.
I so don't need this... but I pre-ordered as soon as it came up.
Have you seen how much the original G&W Zelda game goes for nowadays in good condition? Easily into 3 figures. You could always go to http://pica-pic.com/ and enable Flash and play it (it's not great!)
Got Mario G&W. Going to get this as a collection. Might be worth it one day.
Nostalgia is a gold mine.
This really should have also included Link's Awakening DX, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. I'm getting it anyway, preordered since months back, but those additons would have made this into a MUST HAVE 8-bit Zelda tribute machine for the ages.
Shame Link's Awakening DX isn't the version on board. Only reason I can guess they didn't go that route is because it wouldn't be able to make use of the Game Boy Printer for the photo hut pictures, and they weren't about to edit the code and remove all mentions of that feature.
Can’t wait for my new clock.
@Silly_G this is the very first time the original black and white version gets a re-release, so that makes it a bit “special” I suppose.
I certainly have never played that particular version of the game.
I do hope they include a few optional color palettes, though 😅. That said, the subtle green hue they went with looks ok (unlike green mode in the 3DS VC, which absolutely overdid it)
i hope they keep going, i love collecting these.
Looks better than the Mario one but I am not really sold on it.
Somehow I'd missed the fact that Link's Awakening is on there. Now it's definitely a must. While I find the NES entries good, they are also somewhat flawed. The Gameboy Zelda is pure perfection 🙂
Already pre-ordered. Might have to add a second as my son (13) is now sniffing around asking for one.
I really love what they are doing with these G&W re-releases and hope they keep them coming. How about a punch 🥊 out version? 👍🏼
Pre-ordering and waiting 😊
