Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain is just weeks away from launching on Switch, and Nintendo's busy convincing us to pick it up with a brand new commercial starring Neil Patrick Harris.
The How I Met Your Mother actor, who's also starring in a Nintendo-themed holiday film this year called 8-Bit Christmas, is seen enjoying a game or two with his family. As we imagine plenty of parents will relate to, he's forced to sneak in some practice to take on his kids – how are kids so good at these games, anyway?
The new ad follows a lengthier overview trailer shared by Nintendo earlier this week, and the game was also featured in a recent commercial starring Christina Aguilera.
Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain releases on Switch on 3rd December. Are you thinking of picking it up?

I have a massive soft spot for NPH
Does anyone know if this has proper online or is it just ghost data?
Sorry, but am I the only person who knows him from the BRILLIANT film Starship Troopers?
Legen- wait for it...
I played the original Big Brain Academy on the DS. I recall it was a fun multiplayer game. I most likely won’t pick this Switch version up. still, it’s nice to see Neil and Cristina advertising for Nintendo
It's amusing when it's obvious a stylist arranges the color palette of everyone's clothes. It looks good, though, for sure. Nintendo definitely makes good commercials.
Well. Glad this was finally posted. Love both ads, as they are very relatable to people.
That’s not Neil Patrick Harris, it’s Count Olaf in disguise
@Bunkerneath Nope, you are not the only one! Starship troopers is like StarCraft with Neil Patrick Harris to me!
Too bad it is the only good Starship Troopers movie
@Bunkerneath Nope, but I knew him from Doogie Howser M.D. first 😁
Cute commercial. Love NPH. From Doogie, to Barney to Olaf and many in between.
@Bunkerneath Yes to Starship Troopers great movie!
@Iggy-Koopa Came here to post this. He will always be a grown up Doogie Houser to me.
I remember a scene in that show when I was very young when he was explaining to some kid that his procedure was like the old man in Zelda offering you a red potion or a heart container. I hadn't played Zelda yet, and I just remember thinking "That game sounds so cool" and being curious about what kind of game it was.
Spoilers: I found out what kind of game it was.
Love NPH! Can't wait for 8Bit Christmas!!
Is that his real family? I'd have to assume the kids were adopted, if not his they are casted perfectly.
lol this is a cute commercial and totally what I would do. Can't let those kids beat you.
I rather just have a pokemon or other character be in the commercial. Celebrity puppets are vapid frauds.
@Clyde_Radcliffe From the official listing it seems to just be ghost data challenges. Regardless, it should add a lot of replay value along with the local multiplayer high score mode. For a budget title I’m actually really looking forward to this!
@tseliot I think those are his kids.
It'll probably be delayed!
@Picola-Wicola
... -dary!
(I mean, I came down to the comments to make sure someone else would have the same obligatory thought.)
..shows to 62y/o Mum..
...
...... "It's Doogie Howser!"
Where are the Smurfs, smh Nintendo
I recognised him from that Harold & Kumar movie. "Dude, I thought Neil Patrick Harris was a stand up guy! Did Doogie Howser just steal my car?".
Anyone else now craving burgers?
Made me want to watch HIMYM, not play the game.
Doogie Howser is a perfect celeb spokesman for Big Brain Academy. 😁
This game will be under the tree this Xmas - hopefully the brain teasers will be fun for the kiddos and me.
If you’re an NPH fan, I highly recommend watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
That family is so friggin adorable. Neil made it even better, honestly.
@Bondi_Surfer It is a weird happenstance that I just gave that a rewatch 2 days. "Signed Bad Horse"
Yeah this is a nice advert for a game that could come across as pretty simple or boring if not presented in the right way. Sweet family too.
I’m not sure this game is for me but the ad is really cute. He seemed to really get into it.
Lot of mini game collections this year 2021 on Switch. From this, to Kiwashima's Brain Age, to WarioWare, and even Mario Party SuperStars.
