E3 changed some years ago even before Nintendo direct showcases. If I remember correctly at one point anyone could be at the main big three conferences but then it was stopped and only press and gaming journalists were allowed, the reactions were not as great after that and it never was quite exciting not hearing the fans scream and cry.

@Dezzy70 the console sold out very quickly, I pre-ordered the Zelda pro controller and that’s also sold out too

@Anachronism I believe work on the next Zelda is already happening, could be why this game has taken so long, with the exception of Covid, the Zelda teams could be working on other projects at the same time, it wouldn’t surprise me if work has already been started on the next mainline Zelda for the next system

As far as I know, I don’t believe it’s possible to have something as powerful as a PS5 or XBox X in handheld form as of yet, unless you want to be holding bricks in your hands and big fans to cool the system down, some people seem to be expecting and wanting this and that’s not possible

If these are the chips Nintendo will be using for their next system then it will be more than suffice to run game’s beautifully, especially Nintendo first party games.

@Rooty Nintendo EPD group 8 are quite masterful at making Mario games magical and different, I remember thinking after completing Mario Galaxy 2 that I couldn’t see where they could go with Mario from then on

@Frailbay30 You can also say much of it is media too, but that goes hand in hand with film, it’s all churning out the same garbage and people are unfortunately growing custom or desensitised to that kind of rot

@Fangleman32 Let’s be honest here, todays youth and younger audiences aren’t reading the old books of the past so yes I’d say Hollywood have created the modern idea of what they believe strong characters are, they have pushed that narrative and kept it alive. We will have to disagree on that, horses for courses

I like my characters to be messed up, a little naive, be adaptable to change, even to be weak and show weakness at times and even be a damsel now and then, because the best characters are a array of emotions, I’m also all those things, and if Hollywood want to keep pushing that agenda that all women must be strong like the men are, then that’s going to be just as generic and boring as most of the forgettable films are of today and yesterday.

@Bratwurst35 But who’s pushed that narrative that all men are strong? Hollywood has done that and it’s now being done with female leads and it’s just as boring.

@quinnyboy58 Heaven forbid that films are made without having to push any social justice narrative, I mean we have had strong female leads for decades, but it’s not new ground, but it’s being pushed today that every female in the movies has to now to be strong, that’s what I find amusing and ridiculous. I don’t want to go in full essay of what I find wrong with this narrative but to me it’s like having a camp gay character or a chubby character in movies to have for the comic relief, having the clumsy and camp but for nothing more, nothing deeper, nothing meaningful

I am referring to Peach’s character of course and having her as strong female lead while it would appear form the trailers that Mario is the bumbling idiotic moron

Well just as long as every female character is a strong woman, because we have a lack of female empowering strong women in movies who are capable of violence, I mean even South Park has a vice principle who’s a strong woman now!

@Giancarlothomaz I wouldn’t take Nintendo's word on that, not as gospel. they can still support the switch and still have a successor console, they have after all supported the 3DS up until this year. The meaning of support Nintendo is talking of is very subjective.

Agree on Ganondorfs voice not being menacing enough, I’m assuming it is Bill Rogers voicing him as he sounds very similar to King Rhoam, it’s not the kind of voice I’d imagine he would have for something so evil, sometimes I don’t think evil characters need voices anyway

@EriXz My folks spent £50 on Star Wars for me when I was a kid, that was for the NES, and that was £50 back in the early 90’s

I don’t mind paying a little more if I know workers are being looked after, it’s worth it

It’s fantastic news, I really do hope the Switch surpasses the DS sales, I don’t believe it will but regardless, the Switch has been a monumental success.
If we are to have the Switch for another year or two then I’d love a new 3D Mario title and definitely Donkey Kong, or both in the same game, that would be interesting

That’s pretty nice, I’m not into collecting figurines myself but my nephews birthday is coming up and he is obsessed with Mario Kart and I know he would love this

@UmbreonsPapa This, I’ve never understood it either, it’s all most like some people have a hatred for a new system or show a lack of complete decorum for anyone that enjoys talking about the possibility of a new system, get back to your caves with your NES system!

But I go by the pattern of Nintendo game releases for a new system, Nintendo usually has either a Zelda or a Mario release for a new system, it helps sell, if Nintendo plan on releasing Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and another 3D Mario on the current system and release a new system by the 2024, they will have no big games ready for a new console release, they would have already been out in 2023, and typically the wait for the next big Zelda and Mario is five to six years.

I do not believe we will be seeing Smash Bros for a long time yet, same with Animal Crossing and we just had Splatoon 3, all three being massive system sellers.

So a new console in 2024 would look very grim, no Zelda or Mario, they would have just been released the year before on the Switch, no Smash Bros for at least a year or two, same with Animal Crossing. The only game I could think of would be a new Mario Kart.

Peach’s castle looking all regal sitting there, the world looks vibrant and lively, toads all running about merrily, now if only we had a game that looked this magnificent!

It looks rather glorious, I can’t help thinking what future Mario games might look like!

I bought the Wii U on the day of its release but the reveal of the system was lacklustre and I knew from that moment it would struggle, I remember telling my brother that it would probably sell less than the GameCube, and would of been Nintendo’s last system, I’m so glad I was wrong on the latter part.

The Switch’s reveal trailer was perfect and how it should be done, with that first glimpse of Mario Odyssey thrown in made it a wee bit magical.

@gcunit Don’t bring the politics of Brexit into this, that’s a nasty swipe, I know plenty of people who own switches who voted to leave, including myself, who are not in any way Johnson fans, you’re generalising over 17 million people, that’s bigoted itself.

The 3D Mario team have been very quiet, I suppose this is the longest we have gone without not knowing what the next game in development is since Mario 64, I know we had the port of 3D World and Bowsers’s Fury but there has been no news on the next big one for five years.

@aaronsullivan Spot on with what you said. I remember watching the first trailer for Mario 3D World and being so underwhelmed with the character designs, that plasticky shine look, almost toy-like. Mario Odyssey’s design was much better and Mario had better expressions but there is so much more they could do with evolving these characters.

If it’s real then I’d say Mario looks very good, I love it when these characters are evolved more and are able to show more personality, I remember Mario from Odyssey being a stark change from 3D World, the hair details, even nipples lol, but it was good seeing Mario express himself more in Odyssey, where in 3D World he looked more of a plastic toy, now I know this change is for the movie but I’m sure he will evolve more for the games in the future, the same goes with other characters

I have to disagree with the comments that New Super Mario Bros U being an excellent game, it wasn’t, more of a rehash of the games before it, it was extremely bland for Mario’s first HD game. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze put that game to shame. That’s my opinion though

The sun never shines, that to me seems like we maybe going underground? I’m excited for this game quite a bit but I hope we might be discovering new places to explore on land, maybe the Twilight? Because Nintendo have hardly shown much from the trailers we have seen, tiny little snippets, they are keeping something big very secretive

I never knew much about Rare until Banjo, I had for some strange reason gone of gaming after the SNES, so I must have been around 14 years old when my brother came home with a N64 one day, I knew nothing about it and never saw any advertising for it on TV, Nintendo related adverts were actually rare in the 64 days in the UK, I knew about the PS but nothing about Nintendo latest console. My brother had Mario 64 and Golden Eye and I was shocked and took me about an hour to get used to Mario in 3D, then we took a trip to Blockbuster and I saw the box art for Banjo and knew instantly that I would love it and from that moment on I have never gone off gaming. Ideally I’d love a modern remake of Banjo and Tooie

@Shmorpmeistercorn I was waiting for someone to mention them. Yeah I also enjoy the blogs, though I had a hunch Nintendo might be making a new 2D Mario anyway given it’s about time and it needs a good shake up.

@FishyS There’s a rumour out there that Nintendo are apparently working on a 2D Mario with a whole new art style which is no longer going to be the “New” type of Mario games. It’s a rumour but then again Nintendo are always working on the next Mario, goes hand in hand really

@k8sMum It’s the same here in the UK, though Nintendo have stated that the current switch is in the middle of its life cycle so I’m assuming Nintendo will support the switch with the eShop for another four to five years even if it does reveal a new system before then. I believe they will as we have plenty of first party games for the switch now, and Zelda is still to come as well as Metroid. I suppose they would discount the switch by the time a new system is out making it more affordable for more people and at the least have backward compatibility for switch games on the new system. Nintendo could actually go one further though and have their new games run on both systems, but obviously run smoother and prettier on a new system.

@k8sMum Unfortunately that doesn’t stop companies from selling goods, the wheels of commerce will keep turning no matter what happens in the world. People will still buy new phones, computers, lap tops, consoles, mortgages. Nintendo is no different

I’d be happy if Ninty’s next console releases alongside Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. I’m ready and already saved for a new system

I just assumed it was called tears as Link is shown turning into some kind of water droplet or tear and passing through objects in one of the older trailers

Nintendo seem to be holding back a lot of Zelda, just showing us very small clips from the game. Hopefully we will see more in January or February. The direct was okay but I really wanted more Zelda shown. Though the direct was all over the place.

I suppose we have had most of the big guns released now for the Switch, I’m certain that development is moving forward now for games for a new system, whenever that may be released
