Gaming Killed The Video Star

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

Berto_Gamut

It's really easy to agree with Nintendo here. 4K TVs are a mess right now. There are multiple versions of HDR for each manufacturer and most adds input lag for gaming unless it's HDR10 (which only the newer models have). Besides that, the bump in resolution really is marginal for gaming. I will say 4K movies with HDR look fantastic, but that's about it.

VR is also a mess right now. The strongest seller is PSVR and that honestly looks too blurry, it could look like watching a 3d movie without 3d glasses. And there are wires everywhere...all for the purpose of closing yourself off to everyone in the room and ruining your vision. Nintendo is not about that.

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

Berto_Gamut

I bought a Dreamcast with a few of my favorite games last October. Had a blast playing some of my faves (soul reaver, crazy taxi with original music, and Tony hawk pro skater 2). Even then I would 100% jump on a Sega-inspired retro console, especially if the more hard-to-find games show up there.

Shenmu, power stone, shining force, skies of arcadia....these would have to be in the library.

Re: Nintendo's Damon Baker Hints At An Even Bigger Year For Switch in 2018

Berto_Gamut

Gaming news concerning the Switch is kind of all over the place lately.

People are bringing up an NDirect that was never even announced by Nintendo. Some are jumping the gun and bringing up random 3rd party ports that haven't had anything official. And some are jumping on that Bayo3 and MPrime4 typo from one arm of Nintendo over on twitter.

It's ridiculous. A simple mistake can get all these news sites posting complete nonsense. Hopefully no one ever misspells Mario with Wario, or we'll get 7 separate articles claiming Wario Odyssey is releasing in 2 weeks.

Re: Breath of the Wild Developers Discuss the Zelda Timeline

Berto_Gamut

Great answer. I care about the timeline, but like they said, it's all legends put together by one author which is what makes it so fun. The split in the timeline keeps it open to interpretation from gamer to gamer.

BotW goes nowhere in the timeline for me just yet, but it does give me the feeling that it's after Skyward Sword

Re: Review: Crawl (Switch eShop)

@gloom They aren't doing it to be edgy though. This is likely the easiest way for an independent company to enter the game development space. Powerhoof is just two dudes from Australia I think.

Re: Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Is Interested In Working On Switch

Berto_Gamut

Yes please! I love so many games where Mr. Sakaguchi was involved and always hold out hope that he'll pop up talking about something new. Would love to see Mistwalker and Monolith Soft team up for a brand new franchise or at least get The Last Story on Switch.

Haven't had a try at Terra Battle 2 yet, here's hoping the stop-motion TB3 is coming to all consoles.

Re: Review: Batman - The Telltale Series (Switch)

Berto_Gamut

Hmmm, the technical issues and pricing are what hold me back from picking this up on Switch. Got the first episode free on XBO and it stuttered quite a bit there, can't imagine enjoying a less stable version.

Besides that, it's super cheap on most other platforms.

Re: Resident Evil Revelations Collection Isn't Getting A Physical Release On Switch In Europe

Berto_Gamut

Capcom is very much a publisher cutting corners for the next couple of years, so this isn't too surprising.

RE7 hit sales targets about 7 months late, so far under their projected 10million that it's already getting a re-release in December to try and catch up before the fiscal year. Except by then, the used copies of the original game will get heavily discounted during the holidays, and folks would sooner get that while waiting for DLC sales (which will likely happen in December too).

Re: Hideki Kamiya Would Love To Remake Viewtiful Joe

Berto_Gamut

This is why I love Kamiya/P* and similar developers. They really know what the gaming community would love to see make a resurgence. Sadly, these big publishers are too busy trying to line-up "games as a service" so we'll sooner see a Viewtiful Joe...character add-on for SFV. Or we'll encounter Amaterasu...as something to hunt in Monster Hunter World.

If we want any of this to come true, one of the Big3 would have to throw around their weight and champion the idea.

Re: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of DOOM on Nintendo Switch

Berto_Gamut

I've been playing since release, have this game on both PS4 and Switch. Yes, you can see the obvious downgrade that's going to obviously happen for a console that can go portable at the drop of a hate.

The thing is, it really friggin' works. I love how the low-fi textures look, gives everything this retro-80's kind of look. Anyway, I'm having tons of fun and can't be more happy with how this turned out. Thank you Bethesda for making this real, I'm picking up Skyrim and Wolfenstein2 Day1

Re: There's Plenty Of Retail Opportunity For Third Parties On Switch, Says Sold Out Boss

Berto_Gamut

"it just asks you to up your game"

Ain't that the truth. I want to see developers keep their file sizes low and keep the same performance. I want to see publishers think out their releases, whether that be through smaller shipments or choosing to stay away from the big holiday seasons so they aren't in direct competition.

The industry has to get leaner and smarter. Quite a few games/developers got scrapped or straight-out failed this year, yet big publishers still bank on the notion that everyone is going to buy a 4K tv and a OneX/4Pro with 20 games. It just isnt happening.

All the while, they abuse the lootbox structure to try and catch constant sales revenue. Eventually, that well will dry up.

Re: EA Says It's Still Too Early To Judge Demand For More Games On Switch

Berto_Gamut

BraveFencerZan says EA would first have to test demand with a mass-appeal title.

Fifa18 is a decent start but they aren't taking advantage of the EA library or cultivating their developers with challenges like porting to Switch....something that would in turn help the quality of their games.

Instead, all we hear about are studio closures, Star Wars 1313 resulting in failure, changing their lootbox scheme for BF2 thanks to fan outcry, and insinuating that the singleplayer game is dead because said lootbox schemes make them more money.

As far as big publishers go, EA is a joke.

Re: Nintendo Wants Everyone In Your House To Have Their Own Switch

Berto_Gamut

That's a bit confusing though, especially with the recent infograph of how Switch owners use their console.

Folks who primarily play docked will want splitscreen games, not buying an entire console per gamer in the family then 3 of them have to play in handheld mode. Then comes the question of if the online service can be shared with the family.

There's a reason the people in the header image are playing in what looks like an abandoned factory. They've spent all their money on Switch consoles and accessories
